RENO, Nev. —  U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks, who was appointed by former President George W. Bush in 2001, died Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in Nevada. He was 80.
The Reno Police Department was called to a vehicle-pedestrian crash near the federal courthouse in downtown Reno at about 2:15 p.m. Hicks was transported to the hospital but died just after, authorities said.
The driver involved in the crash remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, authorities added. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
Officials paid tribute to Hick, who was remembered for his love of his family and Reno community.
"Today’s news regarding the Honorable Judge Larry R. Hicks who served Nevada for over 53 years is tragic," Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said on X. "Despite his notable accomplishments, Judge Hicks once stated, 'My greatest thrill in life is my family.' His life philosophy was based on a balance of family, work, and self."
“Larry Hicks was a one-of-a-kind man, revered in our community and, most importantly, beloved by his family. On behalf of my family and the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office, we extend our deepest condolences to Larry’s son Chris, the current District Attorney, and all of Larry’s family. Judge Hicks’ legacy will forever be noted in Washoe County.”
On Wednesday night, the District Attorney's Office released a statement on behalf of the Hicks family:
"Today, our community lost an extraordinary man. Judge Larry Hicks was a deeply admired lawyer and judge, a devoted friend, mentor, and a committed servant to the administration of justice. To us, he was first and foremost a man who put nothing before family. He was a hero in all manners, a loving husband of nearly 59 years, a doting dad, an adoring Papa, and brother. His loss is beyond comprehension."
District attorney, judge, family man
Hicks was a former Washoe County district attorney and the father of Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks.
In a video interview with his son in 2022, the judge talked about the quality he was most proud of that he got from his parents: "Devotion to family above and beyond all other qualities. My mother and father were totally dedicated to their children."
In the interview, Hicks said he and his wife, with whom he also had two daughters, would be celebrating their 57th anniversary.
Hicks was born in Evanston, Ohio, and his family moved to Reno from Los Angeles when he was 13. He graduated from Reno High School and became the first person in his family to attend college when he entered the University of Nevada, where he joined Sigma Nu fraternity, according to the interview.
In 2020, Chris Hicks posted a tribute to his father after he won an award.
"Recently, the State Bar of Nevada honored my dad, Judge Larry Hicks, with the Presidential Award recognizing his illustrious career," Chris Hicks wrote. "The prestigious award is presented to those whose conduct, honesty, and integrity represent the highest standards of the legal profession.
"Congratulations Dad. There is no one more deserving! Thank you for being the father, mentor, and lawyer you are."
Earlier this month, Hicks presided over a private investigator's lawsuit that claimed Sparks police detectives violated his rights by naming him as the person who put a tracking device on Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve's vehicle.
Hicks called David McNeely's argument "unpersuasive and unsupported" and dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning a similar lawsuit cannot be refiled.
The U.S. District Court said flags over the federal courthouses in Nevada will be flown at half-staff in honor of Hicks.

This version of Jen is a heavy blend of both her 616 and MCU counterparts, leaning more heavily into 616 Jen.
Jennifer was born in Los Angeles to Sheriff Morris Walters and Elaine Walters.
As a child, she was very meek and lacked confidence in herself. Unable to connect with her fellow peers, companionship came in the form of her older cousin Bruce when he came to visit. He would take her to the local library, where he would read to her. Since she was an only child he was like a sibling to her and even as they grew older she continued to care for him as such.
She went to UCLA for college, graduated with two degrees and in the top ten percent summa cum laude, and was awarded the order of the coif. Afterward, she would begin practicing law as a Deputy District Attorney at the LA County District Attorney's Office.
She was a driving force in building a case against a man by the name of Nicholas Trask, a crime boss operating out of LA for years. Her father, now retired by this time, had crossed paths with him on multiple occasions but was never able to get any charges to stick. People warned Jennifer of the dangers of trying to go after Trask, but she kept pushing, hoping to put him behind bars and see justice served.
Jennifer was able to secure a key witness, but despite her better efforts, the man was murdered before he could testify. Angry, Jennifer confronted Trask directly and promised him that she wouldn't stop until he was behind bars. Trask replied with a subtle threat of his own and people around Jen worried for her safety.
Coincidentally, Bruce came to LA to visit. (Jen's mother had called and asked him to keep an eye on her for a bit). He suggested she take some time off and go on a road trip with him. Though she saw through the reason for this, Jen hadn't seen much of Bruce in years and so agreed to go.
During the drive, however, they were run off the road by another car (later realized to be hitmen hired by Trask) and ended up tumbling down a hill in a bad accident. Both she and Bruce were injured, but Jennifer woke up first. She pulled her cousin out of the car, some of his blood spilling into an open wound before he began to come to and warn her to keep away.
Due to the trauma of the car crash, Bruce seemed to be having a hard time keeping control of his alter ego and told her to run. Having not seen his unstable transformation up close and also still being disoriented from the crash, a scared Jennifer did as she was told.
She wound up lost in the forest for hours, dirty and with no shoes. Eventually, she came across a bar and wandered towards it. A few women helped clean her up and allowed her to borrow their phone. She called her Bruce, who thankfully had gained control and returned to himself and let him know her location.
While waiting for him, Jennifer realized that she was being watched and a group of men came up to her. At first, she simply thought that they were just hitting on her because she was an easy target, until one of them pointed a gun at her. They revealed that they were sent by Trask, and were surprised to see that she had survived the car crash.
Jennifer tried to reason with them, but the gun went off and she felt the bullet pierce her chest. To the surprise of both the men and herself, she stayed standing, instead beginning to transform. Her features began to take on a green color and she felt as if she were growing taller. All that she remembered after that was letting out a monstrous scream and the look of horror on the men's faces before everything went black.
When she came to the next day, Jennifer found herself in Bruce's Beach House in Mexico. It was there that Bruce explained her new condition and tried to help her get a grasp of her new abilities. Unlike when Bruce first became the Hulk, they realized that (despite her blacking out during her first transformation) Jennifer was able to retain a lot more self-control in her Hulk form.
Bruce trained her, monitoring their differences and her stability. Jennifer at first wanted Bruce to fix her, fearing her new form, but quickly came to like it. The more she trained in her Hulk form, the more confident she felt. It was a feeling she had never felt before in her own skin.
As their training sessions progressed, Jennifer found herself spending less and less time out of her Hulk form. Bruce noticed and expressed concern, but Jennifer brushed him off. Jen's newfound confidence was beginning to become overconfidence. She began to ask Bruce when she would be able to go back to her life in LA and got upset when he explained that it wouldn't be a good idea to ever go back.
Jennifer did not like that answer. She felt that the fact that she could freely transform between her human and Hulk form meant that she would be safe to return to society. Bruce disagreed. This led to an argument where the two would end up fighting in their Hulk forms, Jen insisting she was leaving and Bruce trying to get her to stay.
Jennifer said a few hurtful things as only a family member could and their fight ended with them accidentally destroying the bar that Bruce and Tony had built together. Feeling terrible, Jennifer helped him rebuild it and they had a calmer conversation.
Bruce still did not think that it was a good idea for her to go back to LA, but respected that she was an adult that could make her own decisions. Jennifer apologized for what she had said to them in their fight and he saw her off, letting her that he was the only one that understood what she would be going through and to not be afraid to call him if she needed him.
Back in LA, Jennifer tried to continue on as if the recent events hadn't happened. The only people she told were her mother and father and her good friend (and coworker) Nikki Ramos. Months passed with no incident and Jennifer tried to focus on her job. Talks started forming around Jennifer potentially being looked at to be promoted to a District Attorney.
Unfortunately for Jen, an incident in the courtroom during one of her closing testimonies would reveal her Hulk form to the world and throw her into the spotlight.
She was fired from her job at the DA's office for liability reasons.
Eventually, she was offered a job at GLK&H under their Superhuman Law Division. At first, she didn't want to take it, feeling that they simply wanted to exploit the image of She-Hulk... but she quickly realized that she could do a lot of good representing the Superhuman population.
When not fighting crime in the courtroom, Jen is outright crime on the streets.

WRITTEN BY: Rebecca (she/her), est.
BACKGROUND / BIO
triggering / sensitive content warning: car accident, death, sibling death.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Natasha Marie Adams, made her debut on January 11, 1991. She was born to affluent parents, Christie and Patrick, both of which were successful in their respective careers. They already had two children, Jeremy and Chase. Tasha and her brothers, separated by only a few years between each of their ages, grew up as three peas in a pod. They were practically inseparable. As Tasha grew up, she was the biggest free spirit her parents had ever seen while also one of the most serious children they had ever seen. She was a real girly girl; one who loved to play dress up, go to dance class, and have tea parties. Life with her and her brothers was grand. When she was 7, her mom got pregnant again, this time with twin boys, Sean and Brandon. Natasha was now the only daughter in a household of boys. This only strengthened her femineity, while also simultaneously giving her a tomboyish side.
Even up through middle school and high school, life was pretty good for Natasha. She loved school and while not being super popular, she had plenty of friends. By senior year, she played tennis, and even joined the debate team. Both these activities strengthened her need to be perfect. However, at the same time, she longed for adventure and for change. The middle of senior year, her world came crashing down. Her eldest brother (Jeremy) had been at a party while in college and wound up getting into a car accident and passing away. Because of this, she felt the need to study law and help others who could potentially suffer the same grief she did, while determined to help people get the justice they deserved.
She applied to UCLA with an intent on becoming a pre-law major. After excelling there and graduating, she attended Stanford Law. While in college she met Emeline Newman at a club and they became fast friends. They were each other’s rocks and attached at the hip. So after Emeline moved back to Merrock, Tasha joined her a year later, after getting some work experience. After moving to Merrock, Tasha got a job at Spencer Lawrence’s law firm as a lawyer. From there she met Bryan.
Since moving to Merrock and meeting Bryan, she had fallen hard for him. However, their relationship was complicated. Tasha was a perfectionist so she had always envisioned herself settling down and getting married and having kids. However, Bryan was not ready for that and Tasha had fallen for him. Harder than she had anticipated. So every so often they’d get together, and then every so often, they’d break up. Being that free spirit,  helped Tasha understand where Bryan was coming from, but at the same time, the perfectionist in her made it hard for her. Needless to say the few years they have been together (on and off) have been a whirlwind and rollercoaster of emotions. But it’s almost 2024 and she’s determined to keep on pushing through life, whatever that may look like.

Understanding Fault in Car Accidents with a Los Angeles Car Accident Lawyer
Car accidents are an unfortunate commonality in the everyday life of Los Angeles ́ citizens. In order to establish liability and pursue compensation for injuries and damages, it is critical to determine who was at fault in these accidents. With this in mind, Jance M. Weberman Law, a respected Los Angeles car accident lawyer firm, is committed to clarifying this intricate but critical part of the legal process by taking a closer look in today’s article.
Types of Fault Accidents in the city traffic can take place in a variety of ways, each with its own complexity of fault. One common cause of accidents is drivers not keeping a reasonable distance from the car in front of them. This is particularly true in rear-end crashes. Similarly, intersection accidents may occur when a driver fails to yield or runs a red light. The rules assigning responsibility in these situations are complex, and it is crucial to understand them.
Since California uses a comparative fault system, liability for an accident in California can be shared among several parties according to their level of negligence. All parties involved in an accident must have their scenarios thoroughly examined in order to establish fault according to this legal framework.
Because accidents are sometimes chaotic and witnesses may have differing viewpoints, obtaining witness testimonies may give critical insights into the circumstances before the accident.  In this context, experts in accident reconstruction are also crucial in establishing what happened and what causes led to the incident. With their training and experience, they may examine physical evidence such as skid marks, vehicle damage, and more to determine who was at blame.
Investigating Fault A thorough investigation is necessary when deciding who was at fault in a vehicle collision, and gathering evidence from a variety of sources is a critical part of this process. This process includes actions like accident reconstruction analysis, witness accounts, and police records. These pieces of evidence fill in the gaps in our understanding of the events that preceded the accident.
At Jance M. Weberman Law Corp., our expert investigators systematically evaluate every detail of the accident to determine fault. We leave no stone unturned in our quest of justice for our clients, using our knowledge and resources to find the truth.
Dealing with Insurance Companies Navigating the intricate details of an insurance claim can prove difficult, particularly when dealing with hostile insurance adjusters. However, with the help of an experienced Los Angeles car accident lawyer, you can successfully navigate this procedure.
When communicating with insurance adjusters, it’s important to be careful and avoid offering statements that might be misunderstood or used against you. Additionally, knowing how to handle disputes and negotiation tactics can significantly impact the outcome of your claim.
The Power of Strong Legal Counsel A strong legal counsel can truly strengthen your case when dealing with insurance company disagreements or opposition. A professional Los Angeles car accident lawyer can advocate for you, challenging any unjust rejections or lowball settlement offers. Attorneys, with their extensive understanding of insurance regulations and negotiating methods, can help you maximize your compensation and avoid being taken advantage of by insurance adjusters attempting to minimize settlements.
At Jance M. Weberman Law Corp., we vigorously represent our clients guaranteeing the protection of their rights and the payment of the just compensation to which they are entitled.

Blog #10
A. In a prospectus why should you, the filmmaker focus on highlighting about what investors need, rather than making it about your production team via crew/cast bios?
Yes. Investors are really busy. You should keep it straight to the point of what you need, what you are asking for, and what the ROI is, and how you will secure return on their investment, such as already having a bond company.
B. What is a one sheet, and what should it include?
A one sheet is a brief, all-encompassing outline of what your film is. It should include a poster, contact info, logline and genre, a brief synopsis, and a marketing plan.
C. What is the difference between a risk and a hazard?
A hazard is the potential for harm, whether physical or mental.
A risk is the chance of that harm actually occurring.
D. Research 10 potential risks and hazards for your film
Improper firearm storage.
Improper gun safety (pointing at people, trigger discipline, etc.)
Physical stunt work (The film has football, so like tackling and all that.)
Choreographed action sequences gone wrong (someone getting hurt in fighting sequences)
Stunt glass-related injuries (From my understanding in films they use tempered sugar as a glass substitute, but the impact and shards can hurt someone)
Vehicle related hazards (Running someone over, crashes, etc.)
Tripping over wires
People not saying 'Striking' when turning on lights
Company moves can lead to unexpected car-wrecks
People dropping equipment and breaking it.
E. Why is it vital to hire professionally trained personnel on set in regards to risk assessment?
The more complex a production the more likely accidents will happen. Also not hiring for those positions will make it harder to secure funding from investors or a bond from a bond company.
F. When is it necessary for the 1st AD to call a required safety meeting on set?
Whenever a new significant element outside the normal scope of operation is added to production. Like if you're doing a new stunt that isn't normally done, or working with weapons for the first time, or anything like that.
G. Five Questions to ask lawyers before partnering up with them
What their field is. (Litigation, copyright, contracts, etc.)
What sort of clients have they had before
How often have they had clients similar to me
If they charge per contact (phone calls, email, etc.)
If they bill hourly or take a percentage per project
H. What does negative film insurance cover?
The loss, damage, or destruction of film. Generally does not include faulty cameras or audio equipment.
I. Why is Errors and Omissions insurance important?
It protects you from frivolous lawsuits from people who think they're being represented in your fictional work when they're not, or if they are a real person and you're misrepresenting their actions. An example of this is when Florida Joker tried to sue Grand Theft Auto for including a character similar looking to him in their newest game. This lawsuit was thrown out of court due to Errors and Omissions.
It's important for a producer to have because if you don't have Errors and Omissions insurance you will not get investors and distributors to take on your project because they'd be opening themselves up to expensive frivolous lawsuits.

K. Five questions about production for review
I was kind of confused about the ROI formula when we covered it in class.
How to find guild rates. When I was looking them up some of them were hidden behind a login screen. Is there a central location to get this information?
Budgeting. How to find budgets of films without paying for IMBDPro.
I'm really struggling in general with all of the assignments related to the sub-$2 million budget for the project. Like we're supposed to spend half the budget on marketing, and also get an A-List actor. I assume any A-List actor is going to have a salary higher than $2 million. But even if they didn't, between marketing as half the budget and the A list actor's salary, and ~1/5 of the budget for contingency, I don't understand how to a have a budget for anything else.
In general, I think all of the stuff I've been struggling with is the material from week 2.

Understanding the Role of a Car Accident Lawyer in Los Angeles
When it comes to Los Angeles, its reputation for congested freeways and frequent car accidents precedes it. The state of California witnesses a significant number of vehicle wrecks annually, with Los Angeles taking the lead in fatal and severe automobile collisions. These unfortunate incidents result in various personal injuries, ranging from amputations to brain trauma, sometimes even leading to comas or wrongful deaths. In the most dire cases, a severe car crash can result in permanent disabilities. Injuries to the head, spine, and bones due to the impact and force of a major accident can cause temporary or lifelong disabilities. It’s in these distressing situations that a car accident attorney in Los Angeles emerges as a crucial figure, guiding you toward obtaining compensation from those responsible for the accident.
According to research conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a staggering 80 percent of car accidents, along with up to 65 percent of near-miss incidents, occur due to driver distractions lasting less than five seconds before the collision. Dialing and conversing on mobile phones increase the risk of accidents by 2.8% and 1.3% respectively. However, texting elevates this risk by a startling 23.2%. These statistics have placed California among the top three states in the U.S. in terms of road accident fatalities. Additionally, negligence in wearing seat belts contributes to accidents and fatalities by 60%, while alcohol and drug consumption accounts for 25% of fatal accidents in California.
These figures vividly illustrate the prevalence of road accidents in California and emphasize the demand for personal injury legal representation. Finding a skilled personal injury attorney in Los Angeles who is adept at handling such cases is not a challenge.
A dedicated car accident attorney in Los Angeles provides both tenacious and experienced advocacy to address your diverse needs. These legal experts collaborate with experienced medical professionals to facilitate the rehabilitation process. They are willing to meet you during weekends, evenings, or even in hospitals to discuss legal proceedings and compensation. Remarkably, these consultations come free of charge. Leveraging accident reconstruction specialists, investigators, medical practitioners, forensic experts, accountants, and biomechanics professionals, these lawyers fortify your case and pursue reasonable compensation from liable parties. They possess the acumen to discern when and how these experts can significantly impact the case.
Seek a personal injury attorney in Los Angeles who demonstrates meticulous attention to preparing your case. They should relentlessly track progress to secure your justice and compensation in the shortest time possible. Mastery of California laws and their strategic implementation in court is a hallmark of a proficient attorney. Combative engagement with opposing parties is crucial for obtaining compensatory damages.
Many attorneys offer complimentary consultations and only bill you if the case is won. Discuss the payment structure with your lawyer, as some may propose a flat fee while others might claim a percentage of the awarded damages. This clarity is essential as you’ll require these resources for your rehabilitation.
For those in search of a reliable personal injury attorney firm in Los Angeles, JM Law Firm stands out as an exceptional choice, particularly for those interested in securing a car accident attorney in Los Angeles.

Nico asked me more questions that night. They were good questions. I noticed however that while he was eager to ask questions, once he had the answers, he seemed indifferent to them. The night was approaching and the air was getting cold. We moved to the living room where he brought me a blanket for the couch. As he turned around to hand me the blanket, I noticed a tattoo in the shape of a t-shirt on his arm. I asked him what the tattoo meant. He told me he’d tell me after he made us tea. I woke up to a bright living room, the sun shining through the foyer, and over the side table where Nico had left me a now cold cup of tea. He was sleeping at the opposite end of the room, laid out across a lounge chair.
Although Nico was a gracious host, I didn’t want to overstay my welcome. I gathered my bag and walked towards the kitchen.
“Oh good, you’re up” Nico called from the living room. I walked back inside.
“While you’re here, I have a favor to ask, if you’re up for it” Nico said
“I’ve made it this far”
“I have a thing tonight. Could I possibly ask you to be my designated driver?”
“You’re not worried I’ll crash your car too?”
“Oh shit, sorry. Only if you’re comfortable with driving again”
“Fuck it. What time do you need to be dropped off?”
“Dropped off? The place is an hour out, the West Mountain ski resort. You should hangout it’ll be fun.”
“I don’t have anything to wear”
“I think you look” he paused, “great.”
I smiled.
In the afternoon, Nico went to the towing company. I spent the time walking through a local hiker’s trail. By the time he came back, I had cleaned my clothes and showered. On the drive there, I was determined to learn more about him.
Nico was born and raised in California. His uncle owned the towing company, which gave him an excuse to travel to New York every now and then. He was a part owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles. Nico never imaged himself working in the art world when he was in college. During his sophomore year however, his father passed away and upon hearing the news, he dropped out and moved home with his mom. After several months of lawyers delegating legal documents, it was established that his father left his share of ownership in Nico’s name. With little apprehension, Nico moved south from Sacramento to Los Angeles where he began his career in the art world. It turned he was really good at it.
“How do you determine what art you want displayed in the gallery”
“I guess you just have to have a feeling about it”
“That’s it?”
“It’s like dating. You either connect with what’s in front of you or you don’t.”
“Do you ever get a bad feeling about the pieces you see?”
“Sometimes.”
“What do you do then?”
“I look harder.”
Just as I was about to ask about the t-shirt tattoo, we arrived at the resort.
