Lovers rock of the sweetest order is here again courtesy of the Nature’s Way Entertainment record label which released its Reggae Hits Vol. 1 album on Friday through VPAL, a subsidiary of VP Records. Producer Garfield Cowan and his artistes deliver the goods on this 19-song set which has a number of dance jams like Wayne Wonder’s Let Me Love You Tonight and Wake Up by Jah Cure. Those were hit tracks on the hot Sweet Personality riddim five years ago, and their remixes pack enough punch to keep rocking the dancefloor. There are also tracks from Richie Spice and Lutan Fyah, Busy Signal,Christopher Martin,Alva, as well as King Mas and Jemere Morgan, son of Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage. Free Up the Grades by King Mas out of Boston and Jemere Morgan is a salute to the good herb, that is bound to get those lighters, and spliffs, flashing all night. So, go out get your copy of Reggae Hits Vol. 1. It will be money well spent. http://smarturl.it/ReggaeHitsVol1NWE https://www.instagram.com/p/CioC3owpwFL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Jamaica Top Sights
Best Beaches
Jamaica’s beach experiences are as varied as the island’s topography. The tiny, delicate Lime Cay, only reachable by boat from Port Royal, is perfect for snorkeling and picnics. Hellshire Beach heaves with Kingstonians and reverberates with loud music, its wooden shacks doing a roaring trade in fried fish. The north coast’s Winnifred Beach draws the locals with its azure waters and weekend parties, while Negril’s Seven Mile Beach is crisscrossed by Jet Ski riders, and its long crescent of white sand lined with the bodies of sun worshippers.
Reggae Grooves
If there’s any cultural trend that defines Jamaica to the rest of the world, it’s reggae music – quite literally the soundtrack of the island. The reggae calendar is dominated by two huge events that celebrate the country’s love of ‘riddims,’ both worth planning your trip around –Rebel Salute, held every January in St Ann, and then Reggae Sumfest, held in Montego Bay in the middle of the broiling Jamaican summer. Break out a sweat amid the throbbing mass of bodies and the nonstop dancing.
Rafting the Rio Grande
No less a celebrity than Errol Flynn started the habit of sending discerning tourists on romantic, moonlit rafting trips through the Rio Grande Valley, from Berridale to Rafter’s Rest at St Margaret’s Bay. These days the experience isn’t quite as exclusive as it was when Mr Flynn was running the show – the Rio Grande rafting trips are actually quite affordable as Jamaican tourism activities go – but if the moon is full, you can still pole onto the waters, which turn silver and unspeakably romantic.

So Future Sounds 060: Hyalyte (Guest Mix)
🔊 So Future Sounds is a bi-weekly mix series that invites the most plugged in DJs to give you a taster of the sounds that represent their world.
🔌For this episode we’re heading to Belgium to handover to a DJ and Producer who to me makes some of the most exciting remixes and club edits around. He goes by the name of Hyalyte and after DJing for the last 8 years, turned his attention to producing 12 months ago. Hyalyte focuses on the spectrum of bass music and says he fell in love with music because of the deep basslines in classic UK dubstep. This mix contains some of his current favourite tracks around as well as a bunch of his own edits. Enjoy.

VC - Rise Live & Direct at YouTube VC, born Valton Craigie, exploded onto the Reggae scene in 2000 with his infectious first single, “By His Deeds”. The song became a runaway success and an instantReggae classic, holding the #1 position on Reggae charts Worldwide for as long as 8 weeks. Since that time, the song has been voted a Top 100 Reggae Song of All Time. The success of this song led him to performances at Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues, Reggae Sumfest, Rebel Salute, Bob Marley Memorial and Peter Tosh Memorial concerts, among others, in Jamaica, as well as numerous TV performances. VC was also giventhe opportunity to tour such places as England, USA, UAE, Canada, and the Caribbean, where his energetic, heartfelt performances received rave reviews.VC had taken some time off to be with his new born son, but had continued to write and record his own brand of socially conscious Reggae & World music, working with the likes of Beres Hammond, Rupert Bent (formerly of Third World), and RCMRecords in London, among others. Singles, such as the Harmony House produced “Friday”, the Rennaisance produced “It’s Time”, and Jamstone produced “No New World Order” have been released and are receiving critical acclaim Worldwide. The brand new release “Rise”, on the Dub Inc. produced “Better Run” riddim is already creating waves and expected to be a major hit. As a result, VC is on the verge of releasing his first, and long awaited album in June, 2019.In order to support this album, titled “Jah Sent”, VC will be embarking on a campaign to bring his message of peace, love and justice for all to his fans and music loversWorldwide. Ed. Note: Contributor Baylee Less and back with another handy list of live music in Memphis this month. Cat Evans also contributed to this post.
As summertime crawls to its sweaty end, your August Listen Up! attempts to keep the sunny vibes alive and leave the heat behind. Here are your 11 not-to-miss shows in Memphis this month.
1. Foster the People, Minglewood Hall, Tuesday August 1st, $30 – $35, show at 8 p.m., all ages
Join the LA indie group Foster the People at Minglewood for a night of dancing, bopping, and bubbling indie rock. They’re currently on tour to support their third studio album Sacred Hearts Club, which explores 80’s, funk, electronic, and R&B influences for an entirely new sound.
2. Tall Tall Trees, The Bluff, Friday August 4th, Free, show at 10 p.m., 21 and over
Head to the Highland Strip’s newest live music joint The Bluff for a night with multi-instrumentalist Mike Savino. Savino performs under the pseudonym Tall Tall Trees to create eclectic indie folk rock that jams with plucky banjos, electric guitars, and South American influences.
3. Skinny & Gangsta Boo’s Birthday Bash, The Hi-Tone, Friday August 4th – Saturday August 5th, $12, show at 9 p.m., 18 and over
Advertised as two days of debauchery, help rapper Gangsta Boo and Hi-Tone owner Skinny celebrate their birthdays with the help of other Memphis-born acts including funk and soul instrumentalist Hope Clayborn, aristocrunk rappers Lord T & Eloise and “whiskey-soaked” country rock group Dead Soldiers.
4. Jidenna, New Daisy Theater, Wednesday August 9th, $20, show at 8 p.m., all ages
You may know Jidenna from his viral track “Classic Man,” an electro-hip hop tune that also features rap’s newest sultan Kendrick Lamar. Hailing from a variety of places including Atlanta, Oakland, and Nigeria, Jidenna fuses R&B and rap to produce a signature sound he proclaims as “swank.”
5. Riddim Realm Presents: Juju Bushman, The Hi-Tone, Wednesday August 9th, $5, show at 8 p.m., 18 and over
Juju Bushman concocts a sound that refuses to be defined by traditional genres. He blends blues, soul, and rock elements to create music as organically raw as the kale you buy from Whole Foods.
6. Matchbox Twenty with Matt Nathanson, BankPlus Amphitheater at Snowden Grove, Friday August 11th, $30 – $165, show at 7:30 p.m., all ages
Spend a Friday night out being serenaded by soft-rock acts Matchbox Twenty and Matt Nathanson. Matchbox Twenty continuously “Push”-ed the boundaries during the nineties with their now-ubiquitous grunge-alt rock; their hits still circulate music waves. Come early to see humorous singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson return to Memphis for the first time since his Beale Street Music Fest performance in 2009.
7. Memphis Tributes The Grateful Dead with Freeworld, Highway Hi-Fi, Devil Train, Left Unsung, and DAMFOOL, Minglewood Hall, Saturday August 12th, $7, show at 8 p.m., 18 and over
Groove the night away at Memphis Tributes The Grateful Dead. Over the course of five hours, a rotating collection of Memphis musicians will take the audience on a long, strange trip to salute the leading jam rockers of the 60’s and 70’s.
8. Rock for Love Benefitting Church Health Center, The Hi-Tone and Crosstown Concourse Pavilion, Friday August 18th – Saturday August 19th, $10, varied times, 18 and over at Hi-Tone and all ages at Crosstown Concourse
Support Church Health Center at their annual Rock for Love weekend by listening to some of Memphis’ finest talent. On the bill for this year: HEELS, Jack Oblivian, Susan Marshall, Winchester and the Ammunition, Yesse Yavis, and Cassette Set.
9. Artistik Lounge Presents Bad Boy Tribute, Artistik Lounge, Sunday August 20th, $10, doors at 7 p.m., all ages
This month’s Artistik Lounge tribute honors Bad Boy Records, Sean Combs’ leading record label that produced one of West Coast hip-hop’s biggest names, Notorious B.I.G. Enjoy a few drinks and delicious food while you watch loungers pay their respects to one of the labels that put hip-hop on the map.
10. Alfred Banks and Marco Pave, The Hi-Tone, Friday August 25th, $10 – $12, show at 9 p.m., 18 and over
Lend your ear to two of Southern rap’s up-and-coming artists Alfred Banks and Marco Pave. Alfred Banks journeys from New Orleans to deliver his jazzy rap flow to the Memphis hip-hop scene. Memphian and rap artist Marco Pave will support and perform his debut album Welcome to Grc Lnd, an album that offers a compelling voice to the black Southern identity.
11. Smash Mouth, The New Daisy Theater, Thursday August 31st, $22 – $28, show at 8 p.m., all ages
Feel like an all-star (I had to…) for surviving August with Smash Mouth on the 31st. Touring in honor of their 20th anniversary, these Grammy-nominated modern surf rockers are guaranteed to transport you to Venice Beach circa 1999.
