Loopy Godinez takes SD over Tabatha Ricci

Seems like the theme for tonight is fighters fighting off the back foot and getting themselves in trouble.

Also some confusion from Buffer with the commission over the score?

I don't agree with 30-27 for Ricci but I did think some people were bugging about this not being a competitive fight on the cards. Ricci had a lot of empty volume and noncommittal shots but commentary was definitely underselling how much damage she was doing when she landed clean. And she landed clean a lot. Godinez had the forward and "looked" more comfortable in the pocket. She also hit harder and I think that won her over but this was a competitive fight imo. I do not like Godinez not wrestling at all. It's her best skill. By far. And for all this about keeping her in the pocket behind her high guard looking to time 1-2s up the middle or the odd hook on the break, she should be looking to tie up too. She is way too hittable in close and honestly I don't think she keeps a high enough work rate to be a consistent threat there. There's a reason Ricci dropped her. Godinez's defense consist of high guard and retreat in straight lines. What did Ricci in is her reluctance to try and push Godinez back with kicks.

Back in like 2016, we were all super excited for Irene Aldana and Alexa Grasso to make it to the UFC. Both were obviously talented, having competed in Invicta and had a lot of hype behind them. They’ve hit some snags but have found themselves, today, ranked and with reach of title shots.

Now we have a new wave of Mexican women coming in to the UFC. And honestly, they might be better. One is of course my fav, Loopy Godinez. Expert wrestler and tosser of people.

The other is Yazmin Jauregui (8-0). She’s a kickboxer who has been lighting women up in Combate. She’s finished 7 of her 8 opponents thus far in her career. She’s a firecracker.

And both will be fighting the UFC Vera vs Cruz card this Saturday (Aug 13).

Angela Hill takes UD over Lupita Godinez in fun fight.

A fun fight that started off really rough for Hill as Godinez got off to a hot start by hurting her on the feet. Hill took control of the middle part of the fight by applying pressure and pushing Godinez back. Loopy did a surprisingly great job of boxing with Hill. She was returning fire when Hill would throw but you can only be reactive for so long. You have to either initiate those exchanges or bait your opponent into the exchanges you want. Or else they get a beat on distance and you start falling for their feints hard, like Godinez did. She didn’t really fade here, no more than Hill anyway. The third was a toss up that I thought Loopy won but she was still moving backwards a lot and Hill was still connecting at a similar rate. Can definitely see why she won.

No idea why her and hear team didn’t push the wrestling attack. She shot twice in the entire fight. Hill did great to threaten the guillotine, get under the hips and elevate to get back to the feet on the first one. On the second one, Godinez got to head control and then gave it up.
