I don’t understand how people can say Kim Young-dae can’t act. It’s true that the heavy lifting in no gain no love was left to Shin min-a but you can see his character growing just from his physique. In the first episodes he has rounded shoulders, he looks reluctant to talk to people, he speaks with a low voice, he looks like he’s going to faint when he is on the same bad with a woman. Flash forward to the last episode, the way he speaks and talks and flirts show us how much he has changed. Even during the funeral, his posture is enough to make us see is struggle between wanting to join the sisters in their sorrow and being afraid of intruding into a private moment.

He also shines in the comedy bits because he’s always believable, even if the situation is crazy his acting is never over the top.

I think it perplexes me so much because I was watching Moon in the Day and I liked him so much that I can watched both Sh**ting Stars and The Forbidden Marriage while waiting for new episodes. At the same time, I'm reading all these people complaining that he has "dead eyes" or that they hated the male lead in MitD. He looked like he was suicidally depressed and the character let an assassin live in his house hoping she would kill him, so I'd say that role was done perfectly. Also the difference between Joon-oh, whom I absolutely hated, and Do-ha was perfect.

The funeral in No Gain No Love was so good! Ji-uk looked so miserable being left out but was trying to respect it. And he was angry at himself for crying, it was great! The way the drama was written Hae-yeong is definitely the main character. We get way more insight into her thinking than Ji-uk. That's not an acting problem (and I don't mind more focus on the female lead).

Also, his characters have different smiles and different ticks, which I think counts as good acting. Anyway, I probably should just accept that it's subjective because I don't like certain actors that other people think are good and I read comments about couples having no chemistry when I think they have so much chemistry so 🤷🏼‍♀️

MiTD Fic: run-of-the-mill

Summary:

"Are you all right?" he asks, his heart bright with worry. Worry? Why would I-- And then this girl smiles at him, and his world turns upside down. Finally, he thinks again. Finally, I found you.   or   a snippet of Kim Do Ha and Han Ri Ta's new life.

Finally, his first thought was, the moment he sees her standing by the temple. Finally. Do Ha can't understand it, himself. All he remembers was seeing this girl wearing a school jacket of some sort, taking pictures left and right. As if his feet had a mind of their own, he finds himself moving towards her, closer and closer, until-- --he saves her from taking an unnecessary tumble down the stairs. "Are you all right?" he asks, his heart bright with worry. Worry? Why would-- And then this girl smiles at him, and his world turns upside down. Finally, he thinks again. Finally, I found you.

Somehow he finds it difficult to let go of her - even if it was time for his class to depart the temples. I should stay, he thinks, staring at her mouth. I should--  "Ya, Kim Do Ha," his friend Jang Yoon Je says, clapping his shoulder from behind them. "What are you doing? The teacher's been looking for you. It's time to bounce." "I should go," she says, giving Yoon Je a curious glance before focusing on Do Ha again. "It was nice meeting you. And... thank you again for saving my life." And she gave him a soft smile that made his heart lurch. Somehow, watching her walk away was the hardest thing he had to do that day. "Who's that?" Yoon Je curiously asks, looking from him to the figure of the departing girl. "Your friend?"  "Someone," Do Ha says, glancing at Yoon Je, "that I'm going to marry." A beat. "Well, that's really sudden," his friend comments, crossing his arms. "You've never really shown any interest in any girl in our school - even Jung Yi-Seul, the most popular girl in campus - and now you're saying you're going to marry a girl you just met?" Do Ha shrugs, shoves his hands in his pockets, and turns to go the opposite way. It was hard to explain what, exactly, he was feeling. Just that he's filled with a certainty he's never felt before. Like his life has been missing a puzzle piece this entire time, and now that he's found her-- "Well, does your girl have a name?" Yoon Je asks, catching up to Do Ha. A beat. And then Do Ha turns to him in horror. ...shit.

Han Ri Ta. He finds out a few days later, just as an online article comes out about the winner of a local school photography contest - with her picture on top of it. Her entry shows a picture of the moon in the sky, clear as day, even if the sun was brighter than it. She called it Moon In the Day, Yearning for Night. Do Ha smiles, feeling as though another of his life pieces has neatly slid into place. Han Ri Ta.

He finds himself standing in front of her school, waiting for-- "Can I help you?" someone asks from behind him.  And Do Ha turns, coming face to face with-- --Han Ri Ta. "Oh!" she says, covering her mouth with both her hands. "It's you!" "You remember me?" Do Ha asks cautiously. She laughs, making his heart feel light. "Of course! I can't ever forget the face of the guy who saved me from a fall, after all. I owe you my life, Sir." "Have you been careful?" he says. "Like I told you to be?" She grins. "You'll be glad to know that I have had zero near-death experience since I saw you last." "That's good," Do Ha replies, breathing a sigh of relief. "I'd hate if anything were to happen to you." Live. Please live, Han Ri Ta. I beg you. And a slightly awkward moment passes between them."So," she says, glancing around them. "Are you waiting around for someone?" Do Ha blinks at her. "I--" "I know almost everyone in our school," Ri Ta adds, beaming up at him. "Maybe I can help you find them." Another beat. And Do Ha finds himself clearing his throat. "I was... hoping I'd run into you." She raises a brow at that. "You were?" --shit. "The, uh, picture you took," Do Ha continues. "About the moon in the day? I thought it was really beautiful. I wanted to talk about it." He pauses and says softly, "You're really talented, Han Ri Ta." And her name slides out of his mouth like a blessing. She cocks her head to one side, just studying him - and Do Ha feels as though he's done Something Wrong. Which is ridiculous, of course. He's been known all his life as Mr. Perfect-at-Everything. Even if he'd tried, he wouldn't be able to take any missteps.  Except now, it feels like. Except in front of her. "That's unfair," she finally speaks, crossing her arms. "It seems you already know my name, but I have yet to know yours." Oh. Right. "Kim Do Ha," he says, breathing easily now. Ri Ta smiles again.  "Kim Do Ha," she repeats. "That's great. At least now I don't have to call you Sir when I think of you." And Do Ha blinks at her. "You think of me?" he asks, point-blank. And her face turns bright red. "O-Oh, well," she sputters, "it's not often that I get saved, so." Another awkward moment passes between them. But, again, she cuts that moment short when she brightly asks him, "Would you like to have some coffee?"

And that moment leads to the next, and the next, and the next. And now--

They're in their third month of dating. Do Ha has his head on her lap, feeling as peaceful as ever. She's humming a soft song as she slides her fingers through his hair, and this, this, to him feels like home.

"Don't you find it strange?" Ri Ta asks. Do Ha opens his eyes to look up at her inquiringly. "I mean-- everything that's happened between us," she continues. "It feels... I don't know. Too easy?" "Would you prefer it if things between us were complicated?" he asks carefully.   She shrugs. "It's just... something we took up in history class," Ri Ta says. "About a Silla General who took a wife from Gaya. She ended up murdering him and her father, you know, before taking her own life."  Do Ha closes his eyes. "She must have a pretty good reason to do it." "I guess," she says, running her finger across his brow. "I just keep thinking about how their lives were back then. Having an enemy by your side as your spouse. And it's just--" She pauses. Do Ha waits. "Do you think they loved each other?" Ri Ta continues. "Even if they were enemies?" Yes. Yes. A thousand times, yes. "What do you think?" he asks her back. She sighs. "Would it be weird," she replies, "if I told you I feel happy when I think of them?" Do Ha looks at her again. "I mean, that we don't live like them now," Ri Ta explains, smiling at him. "That we're no Silla General and Gaya Royalty. That you're you, and I'm me. That we're--" "--ordinary?" he adds. Ri Ta pauses, then quickly bends down to kiss his lips. "Exactly," she says. "I love that we're ordinary now." And Do Ha gently cradles the back of her head and pulls it down, just so he can claim her mouth again. Slowly. Thoroughly. I do, too.

“I want to show you something.” Bandor leaned forward, moving the plush lion from Pidge’s hands. He then took them into his own and focused. “I don’t know if this will work but...” He hoped it would. He didn’t have a way to practice first, but he had a slight feeling things would go well. He closed his eyes for a moment until he felt a sort of energy. A connection. Nodding, he opened his eyes and looked up to the sky.

“I don’t get it, what are-” Pidge trailed off as her eyes widened. She had grown used to seeing through Green and Voltron, she had that time on Olkarion, seeing of its past, and she had moments on the training deck with letting the team connect their minds. But this time, she was truly seeing, even if through Bandor’s eyes. “This is…It’s amazing.” Pidge smiled softly. Her eyes then widened when she saw a flash. It burst and sparkled. It was followed by more. Fireworks. She knew the sound well, often annoyed by it. But this time it was different. She could finally see why people were so amazed with them.

Bandor felt a wave of warmth. Pidge was so happy. He was able to figure out the ability, found he could use it, and he brought joy to her. He didn’t even need to look at her to know that; he could feel it through their connection.

Oooh! An excerpt of an MitD chapter go go with the art? Perfection! Anyway! I thought Bandor finding a way to use some Altean ability to connect with Pidge, letting her see through his eyes. And seeing the night sky and fireworks? Truly a wonderful night for her.

MITD au! SuperM has found out??? How is Kai, his Big best friend bear, feeling? Also is Ontae gonna be more a thing? Recently Jinki was his manager for one day! How did that go?

Jongin hovers more once he finds out, after Taemin tells him. He had always sort of known, had always sort of tried his best to help Taemin remember that dieting wasn’t everything, but he didn’t know how serious it was. How deeply sucked into it Taemin had become. How much it was killing him from the inside out. But now that Taemin has told him, has confirmed Jongin’s worst fears for his friend, it’s like all he can focus on is what Taemin eats and when he eats and how much he eats. Constant nagging and prodding and pushing to eat more, that it wasn’t enough, that it wasn’t good for him.

And it makes Taemin panic. He knows Jongin isn’t trying to freak him out, that he’s just trying to help, but it’s constant and overbearing and Taemin never wants other people to find out, especially other SuperM members, so it puts him on edge and scares him to the brink of a panic attack in the middle of a practice room. For everyone to see. For all the SuperM members to ogle at him and fear him.

So Taemin runs. He bolts from the room and feels his entire body sweating and it’s disgusting he’s disgusting he’s so gross why is he so gross they’re all going to think he’s crazy and disgusting.

Then Jongin finds him still splashing water on his face in the bathroom down the hall, and he’s so concerned, Taemin can just feel it oozing off of him, but it only makes Taemin panic more.

“They can’t know!” he insists in a strangled voice. “Stop fucking asking me what I ate! They’re going to find out and they can’t know no one else can know too many people know as it is!”

Jongin is quiet, and his words are soft as he talks Taemin down from the panic spiral.

“I’m sorry,” Jongin says softly. “I didn’t mean to - I was only - I’m just worried about you.”

“If you tell anyone else I’ll kill you.”

“Okay.”

Taemin wanted to feel threatening and scary and like Jongin better not tell anyone or else Taemin really would do something, but he knows he’s far from intimidating as he sways in front of the bathroom mirror, his hair thinning and dark circles under his eyes and God how long have his arms looked so bony? He’s entranced by it for a minute, wondering if he really does look skinny, almost proud of the way his wrist looks particularly delicate, but then he blinks and his vision blurs and his reflection goes back to just looking fat and gross and sickly. He’s disgusting. He’s not intimidating. He’s a mess, and Jongin knows it.

“Do you want me to call Jinki?”

“No.”

Taemin takes careful steps to walk around Jongin and go back to the practice room. He chugs a water and plays it off like nothing even happened and then goes back to rehearsing the choreography. He’s fine. Everything is fine. He doesn’t need anyone.

Fast forward a few weeks, and Jinki is his pretend manager for the day. It’s fun at first. Taemin is excited. He’s missed SHINee and being SHINee and being with his members. He just wants things to go back to normal, even if just for a little while.

But then Jinki mentions how, “I heard you’ve been having a hard time with caffeine,” and Taemin wants to pour the stupid juice over Jinki’s head. He can’t believe he said that on camera. Jinki’s going to tell everyone, he’s going to make everyone know, everyone is going to know how stupid and gross and fat he is.

Problem with caffeine. Taemin almost scoffs.

You have one panic attack that you thought might be a heart attack after chugging a sugar free Monster and suddenly everyone who knows about it thinks you have a caffeine problem. It’s not like he ended up in the emergency room or anything. He was fine. Everything turned out fine. He doesn’t have a caffeine problem. He’s fine.

But Jinki is still his rock. After months of failed recovery attempts, Jinki has stuck by him and helped him every step of the way. Jinki hasn’t given up on him. Won’t give up on him. And Taemin is more thankful for that than anything. He just wishes he knew how to say it out loud, how to let Jinki know that he really is trying to get better.

It will take a while, but Jinki won’t let Taemin fall again.

I couldn’t resist this. Realities collide yet again!  And this time... a bit different. DotU/VV colliding with VLD, which a blind Pidge and twinverse mixed in.  A Shot in the Dark/MitD started before I even thought to work with twinverse. Sadly. But. As of late, I had some ideas for Realities Collide and a lot of my thoughts are with Pidge being blind. And DotU Pidge gets excited when he finds/figures out that VLD Pidge is blind since she’s so independent.

Okay, let’s go further in the ideas.  The Blind-twinverse VLD group, have Chip, Matt, and Regris (who works with Pidge after meeting her since they hit it off so well)  goes with the Voltron team into another reality. Once in, they’re separated. Matt’s with Keith and Hunk (black and yellow) and maybe Shiro? I don’t know yet. And they get found by the Vehicle force team. Chip is with Lance and Allura; he always worries about Pidge, but he tries to separate himself from her more, realizing they can’t always be together and she’s a lot more capable than most, especially him, thinks. They get captured by DotU Lotor. After VLD Allura literally throws him because she’s disgusted by his toxic behaviour. Idea was that Lance comments “You know, you could have tricked him into releasing us.” To which Allura responds with “Yes, but this was very satisfying.” The boys agree with her. Finally, Pidge. With Regris, Rover, and maybe Kosmo (I keep thinking of her finding Kosmo on another planet instead of Keith being in the quantum abyss for such AU this time, and Kosmo’s like a seeing eye battle wolf for her) end up crashing on Arus where they mean the lion Voltron force. And no one says VLD Pidge is not only a girl but also blind. Such Pidge just lets others assume she’s a boy for the fun of it and she keeps her blindness hidden at first so no one fusses over her and tries to get protective. And she works with the lion force to try and reunite with her team and family. 

That’s all I had for ideas for the time being. Other than the two Pidges hitting it off so well and being good friends; even Regris finds himself enjoying the company of the extra Pidge. And Matt, though worried about his sister, is more calm about Pidge being a blind paladin than Chip, who constantly frets. He does his best to help, but when Pidge is on her own? He worries. “I know Regris is with her, but what if the other paladins aren’t there, too? Then what? And Regris can’t always have her back.” “Dude, this is Pidge we’re talking about. If she gets captured, she’s the enemy’s problem.”

If you have a case of the feels? Good. 

Anyway! I had this idea and it came a little too late to put into MitD. Thanks, brain. It was that when the others were in the Alternate Reality where they met Sven, Chip would be in that reality.  This is where feels come in. Chip had a twin brother. Pidge. Emphasis on had. Pidge was also a rebel in the Guns of Gamara, but his life was cut short when a planet he was working at was attacked by the Altean Empire and then destroyed. So, Chip loses his brother. When he meets the Paladins, though, he thins somehow Pidge came back and is excited.  He then learns that she isn’t his brother, she’s from another reality. However, Pidge cares and feels for him. And it’s suggested that he should go with the paladins to be with Pidge, let him have a sibling again. And he does. He goes with her and they call themselves twins. And when he’s introduced to Pidge’s parents, they hear her out and are happy to accept Chip as their son.  “Welcome to the Holt family, Chip Holt!” 

Some sadness, some happiness.  Anyway, the idea came too late. But I kinda want to write a side fic based on that variant. It wouldn’t be part of that timeline, but like... a could be thing for the AU.
