Hello!

I rewatched Pride and Prejudice and it's surprising how my thoughts on it changed over the years 😃

When I was a teenager, Elizabeth Bennet was the plucky heroine that I wanted to be (lol) , now I'm older with a mortgage and responsibilities/bills, I'm like what was her plan in life?

Because she wasn't really educated per se (im thinking about how she answered lady Catherine about what she has to recommend her re:drawing, playing the piano etc) so I guess a 'career'(no matter how little it would be available at that time) was out of the question, but accepting marraige to the (admittedly obsequious) Mr Collins was also out of the question as well as Mr Darcys first proposal (which I get why sge turned it down!) ...I guess I'm asking what Elizabeth's plan for her future.

I've heard this from a lot of people upon re-read, "Why isn't Elizabeth more worried about her future?" I think there are a few things to note.

Early 1800s or not, Elizabeth is 20 years old when the novel begins (the average age of first marriage for women was 23). 27 year old Charlotte is in more of a future panic, but Elizabeth is still young. She has done practical thing like learn to play piano, but like most young people, she's probably just hoping for the best. And it's not like there is much she can actually do, Elizabeth is putting herself out there, she's dancing, she's playing piano, but otherwise she can just hurry up and wait. Her mother's marriage schemes are seen as vulgar and mostly backfire, and we would hardly want Elizabeth to act like Caroline. We read across Austen's novel's that women are largely stationary and it is the men who move in and out of their lives.

Also, I think a big part of Austen's point is that women are in a position where they feel the need to accept any and every proposal, because as Mr. Collins says, they may never receive another, but that this leads to misery (just look at the older couples and how many of them are unhappy!). While somewhat foolish from a financial perspective, Elizabeth is thinking about her long term happiness. She has watched her father turn bitter in an unequal relationship, she does not want that for herself. Elizabeth is choosing possible spinsterhood over being married to a person she knows she could not respect. Marrying for love, or at least on a basis of respect, is a big theme in Austen's novels. Let me add this quote from Mansfield Park to illustrate this point:

“I should have thought,” said Fanny, after a pause of recollection and exertion, “that every woman must have felt the possibility of a man’s not being approved, not being loved by some one of her sex at least, let him be ever so generally agreeable. Let him have all the perfections in the world, I think it ought not to be set down as certain that a man must be acceptable to every woman he may happen to like himself.... And, and—we think very differently of the nature of women, if they can imagine a woman so very soon capable of returning an affection as this seems to imply.”

So yes, Elizabeth Bennet isn't being financially prudent but she is being sensible in preserving her happiness. And for realism, we know Austen made this decision herself! She turned down an eligible offer.

Next, Mrs. Bennet is somewhat exaggerating: they are very unlikely to starve or be destitute. While it is never explicitly stated, Mr. Gardiner seems to be doing very well, and would probably very happily take at least Jane and Elizabeth if Mr. Bennet died. Mr. Philips is also doing well for a country attorney, he could take in his sister-in-law and nieces. It is going to suck, the Bennets should have planned better, but it's not the end of the world. We also do not know Mr. Bennet's age, but he may well only be in his late forties. He's no Mr. Woodhouse who may die tomorrow in a stiff breeze.

So what is Elizabeth's plan? She doesn't have one, she's 20. She's hoping life will throw her a man with a decent income that she doesn't hate. It works out in the end, but I don't think she would live to regret either turned down proposal if she had never met Darcy again.

so what actually makes sannyo your favorite character? what do you see in her that you don’t see in other characters

Im just kidding. Though she is really cute in it.

Truth be told, when UM came out I thought Sannyo was Super cool. Her "You darn fool" expression was probably the best expression in the whole game. but somehow, when the full game was out, she wasn't my favorite. I liked Tsukasa and Megumu and thought Chimata's outfit was crazy fun.

Though even then i preferred Sannyo's outfit design to everyone else's.

But Sannyo slipped from my mind due to what I'll call "Stage 3 syndrome" meaning, after the demo, Everyone likes the 3 stage demo characters for a while and pick a favorite among them, but when the main game comes out they get pushed aside really quick and people, more or less just move on to the new characters

But when I read her power and stuff in her Omake.txt she quickly became the coolest character in there. Of course she's a newer stage 3 boss so I obviously never expected to ever see her again.

(Though tbh my dislike of the smell of smoke probably wasn't scoring her any points, she was honestly at a disadvantage the whole time. I just like her enough to think it's cool when she's using her power instead. Besides, given what she says it's made of, it probably just smells like strange flowers anyway)

But then despite my assumption I'd never see her again, She appeared in Lotus Eaters chapter 29 and continued to appear occasionally after, Not only that......

She had the COOLEST, most cinematic intro in the entire touhou series. It was like 5 pages of slow walking through her Den politely greeting people, using her power, and even making aside comments with cynical gambling advice. Then meeting Mamizou at the door with a confident bow.

she's also got a crazy gap moe range of interests from obscure flowers to Dragons, proudly wearing the name Madame Komakusa, the after what is called the queen of Japan's alpine flowers.

And a crazy range of emotions. (Plus Lotus Eaters loves having her do something fun or cute in the background during her shift hours, even if the script dialog isn't calling for her)

she's mysterious, yet she's as expressive as an actual main character, she's got a range of principles, interests, and an incredibly cool gap moe thing going on. It's so rare for characters that were more or less side characters in their respective games to be this well rounded, I mean she's from freaking stage 3. But, She's awesome, adorable, and mysterious.

And it's not even a headcanon, or a fandom take on her, she is just genuinely like this in canon.

If this term is used as an insult to her I am also confused- is it wrong to have children? The fact that Jonathan and Mina are even able to have a child after everything they have gone through (physically & emotionally) is kinda the highlight of the novel- love wins, life defeats death.

For Cal, Stella and Luna do they all have different music tastes/genres?! If so what hypes them up!

cal and stella have pretty similar tastes, manly because cal listens to whatever stella likes, cus he doesn't know much about music. Stella's pretty into Coldplay and movie soundtracks so they listen to those quite often but she has helped cal find some of his own music to listen too, he likes slow music ( take let go by ark patrol for example) it helps him calm down and relax. Luna on the other hand, her music taste is all over the place. She does have this specifice band she loves called: I don't know how but they found me, idk what genre of music they fall into because I am terrible at identifying music genre's but she listens to them a lot. I hope this answer is satisfying like I stated before I am not good at identifying genres but I think Coldplay is pop(?) So for the short answer stella and cal are both into pop and movie soundtracks and Luna's taste is all over the place (like mine). also bonus sketch of cal listening to music for the first time

Ranking Jane Austen heroines/women on how good of a mother they’d be?

As with the men, I think they would all be good mothers, though in different ways.

Elizabeth Bennet: Soccer mom, she wasn't given the opportunity to have a structured education herself, it will be different for her kids. She's hiring the best governess she can find (after Darcy does a full background check), she's encouraging her kids to do extracurriculars, they will speak six languages that she doesn't understand or else! Has a minor panic attack if she says anything that sounds even remotely like something either of her parents would say.

Jane Bennet: Gentle mom, she cannot imagine punishing her children, she just has a killer disappointed face (she is unaware of this). Encourages her children to always try to understand both sides of the story. Will eventually fall for a lie one of her children tells and be devastated when she figures out the truth.

Anne Elliot: Perfect mother, there is indeed no one so proper, so capable as Anne. She has also watched her sister do everything wrong and she knows exactly how to do it right.

Emma Woodhouse: Scatterbrained mom, makes a resolution to teach her daughter fancy work but then gets distracted and the sampler is left half finished. Promised to read with her son but they only make it halfway through the novel. Good thing she hired an excellent "Miss Taylor" to pick up the slack! And despite her occasional screw-ups, her kids love her to pieces. They just better be on guard when they hit 18 and she starts trying to marry them off.

Marianne Dashwood: Crunchy mom, or whatever the Regency period equivalent would be. She wants her kids to feel the dead leaves between their toes, she encourages them to write poetry and play moving ballads. Otherwise, a lot like her own mother (they have very similar personalities)

Elinor Dashwood: I-Say-I-Love-You-With-Food Mom, she may not be exactly emotionally available, but she orders her daughter's favourite meal when she's sad and there are tiny hearts in the stiches of her son's clothes. She makes sure her kids are provided for, educated, and healthy. When she asks if they are hungry, they know she's saying, "I love you."

Fanny Price: Nurturing mom, she will be everything for those children that Edmund and William were to her, but nothing like Sir Thomas, Lady Bertram, Mrs. Norris or her own parents. She has a good deal of experience from nursing her own siblings so it's a pretty smooth beginning.

Catherine Morland: Overconfident mom, Catherine has been there and done that, she has six younger brothers and sisters after all, she's READY! This will be easy! All you have to do is make sure the baby is fed, washed, changed, and napped... oh... it's a lot harder to do this when you have only slept for 2.5 hours last night... (I know she would have servants, but still, being a new mother is tough!)

Bonus: Jane Fairfax tries to keep Frank from spoiling the kids, but it is literally impossible. He keeps buying them huge presents and then she would be the bad guy for saying no. Also, she knows that Frank lost their child in Kensington Gardens (twice), that's why she always insists he take a footman now.

Bonus bonus: Harriet Smith has a special box where she keeps all the 'treasures' her kids collect. It is her most precious possession.

what are, in your opinion, the best ships involving Sannyo? I'm easily influenced by canon so I'd say mamizou is pretty good. i saw what you said about seiga and while it's true i hate seiga with a passion

Truth be told, I'm not much of a shipper personally, but I have a lot of fun seeing it from different people and thinking about where it comes from.

But this will be fun. So fun, that im going to take this thought way further than i need to. Hopefully I'll have a good number of ships by the time I'm done over analyzing this.

(I actually mentioned that about Seiga because its the only time I've ever seen that ship before, let alone seen any art for it, and was thinking up how it happened, it was cute art after all)

There's actually a much more common ship with a similar character chemistry pairing Sannyo with Yachie,

but this ship makes a bit more sense because not only is Sannyo a dragon fangirl, Yachie even looks a lot like her pipe. In fact, if you used her tail with its length in Touhou 19 you could probably even stretch Yachie into its exact shape, plus a bonus shell.

Ships that can be thought up from the canonical sources.:

Well, first I'll do the ones from Lotus Eaters.

The easiest one to pick is definitely Mamizou. The entirety of Lotus Eaters Chapter 30 was more or less them having a fun and cheeky back and forth.

There is also Miyoi if you want to think of it that way since they are business partners and it's cute seeing her get both encouraged and picked on by Sannyo.

If you want to really be funny, and really stretch the imagination, you can joke about the Ponytailed Yamawaro with the surprising amount of screen time, since Sannyo helped her cool off when she was yelling, and more or less helped her when she was crying.

I mean look at that sad face

Those are the ones from Lotus Eaters.

Now Unconnected Marketeers gives us a few more things to build off of,

Sannyo has a funny back and forth with Sanae, and they both knew about each other before the incident, so that could be interesting.

(Though people can understandably find interactions with any protagonist to build off of if they see it that way)

The next one is since Sannyo lives at Heavens Shelf right beside rainbow dragon cave, Sannyo therefore lives very close by the dragon eater Momoyo too, which is definitely funny.

A surprisingly popular one is Sannyo with Misumaru, this one makes more sense then you might initially think, it comes from Sannyo's dialog implying she's been asked to keep humans out of rainbow dragon cave by someone. That person could only have been Misumaru. Idk how she'd have met her though. One particular artist really loves this ship

Misumaru doesn't technically live in the dragon cave but she definitely uses it sometimes and they both have some mentor energy going for them. My impression of Misumaru just from in game is she has some really proud but also no nonsense aspects to her personality. So it might be fun to see how she could interact with Sannyo.

For the same reason of being nearby, people could potentially ship her with Takane. She lives nearby the Yamawaro and they are both business ladies after all. I think the reason I haven't seen that one is Takane is a bit more hard professional and might not have as good of a back and forth with Sannyo. Especially when Takane has the far more obvious option of Nitori.

She lives nearby the Tengu too, so if someone decided that was enough to go on then they could ship her with any Tengu.

She even says "it's no wonder That Tengu has a high opinion of you" to Sanae.

[We can assume "That Tengu" is Megumu but people can definitely interpret that as someone else if they want. I think ive seen someone assume she was talking about Aya back during the Demo even]

Making it possible to have an argument for Megumu, Aya, Hatate, maybe even Momiji. But given Sannyo's : "you don't need to know about that......., actually i don't know either" flavor interactions with protagonists, it might be hilarious to see her interact with the Tengu.

Unfortunately there is no Sannyo x All Tengu picture to use so have the Megumu laugh Scene from Lotus Eaters:

Thats it for the ships you could extrapolate from UM interactions.

The last ship based on canon sources is Nemuno, they are different versions of the same Yokai species, Nemuno being a Yamanba, and Sannyo being a Yamajorou, a more outgoing version of the species. They both live in the mountains so it's possible for Sannyo to give her a visit if she wants, but Nemuno probably wouldn't travel too far personally.

Finally I'll actually list my favorites:

My favorite ship though is easily with Mamizou. Mamizou and Sannyo had some really fun interactions.

Despite generally not often thinking about Misumaru, I've seen so much cute art of this ship on Pixiv that it makes me kinda like it. They do have compatible personalities so I can't say it's unreasonable.

I feel like she could have potential with Megumu. A Daitengu might be above Sannyo's metaphorical pay grade, but it could be fun. And they apparently are on speaking terms. Plus, you can read Megumu Iizunamaru as Dragon, and thats fun.

[But that's a tough sell, Megumu already is pretty cute with Chimata, has Tsukasa Mythology, and that great running dragon joke with Momoyo]

I think the mental picture of stretching Yachie out into a pipe shape might have sold me on that ship just now too.

So anyway, that's what I came up with for favorites.

The view from Wada’s office is of tall, glass covered structures and what must be a train track looping around them. The vehicles that zip along the tracks travel at speeds far surpassing similar technologies available in the Land of Snow. In the Land of Snow the chakra-rich atmosphere allowed the trains to run on a mix of chakra and electricity. It was a combination prone to overheating, making it only viable in cold climates according to Konoha’s research facilities. Kakashi hadn’t cared enough to follow up on it after delivering the initial intel.

It was something to look into. How enough electricity was generated to power something like it without chakra might be worth investigating. It was obviously more efficient that Konoha’s system.

“Hatake?”

Kakashi shifts his gaze from the window to Wada.

“Hatake,” Wada crosses his arms, pushing back on his chair so he rolls out from behind his desk, “Are you listening? If you’re tired, we can have this conversation tomorrow.”

“Personal information is needed for a residency application. We are about to run through my diagnosis and tests results,” Kakashi idly summarises. He straightens ever so slightly from his slumped position, staring wistfully out at the city, elbow propped up against the arm of his wheelchair.

“I would like to hear what the quirk specialist has to say,” Kakashi adds, trying to inject a little enthusiasm into his voice so he’s not immediately wheeled back to his room for another weeks rest. “Please call me Kakashi,” he throws in.

“Yes. Yes. Kakashi then.” Wada waves away the correction, “I’m going to need more than a name if you want any further aid from the City. After your discharge you’ll be high and dry on the streets at this rate. Don’t think I don’t see you trying to avoid the topic.”

Wada’s irritation has Kakashi smiling for good measure, turning to away from the window. Wada continues talking with a sigh of mild frustration, “This is complicated. So far, you’re being treated under Hou’s Collateral Damage Scheme which would usually extend to relocation, occupation support, and asset recovery. However… as the investigation into the attack on your person hasn’t been linked it to any credible Villain activity, you’ll need to be a resident of Japan to receive further support.”

 Wada frowns at him, “That’s a problem seeing we see can’t find your records and there’s nothing on the Registry.”

“Hmmm,”

“You have no birth certificate, citizenship information, school records, place of residence, career history or passport,” Wada lists, “You walk out of hospital like this and you’ll be jobless and on the streets in no time. I need to get this sorted now while you still have access to the hospital’s resources.”

There is another pause where a reply would usually go. Kakashi finally lets his full attention sit squarely on Wada, taking in his mildly irritated expression, eyebrows drawn together, slight frown, leaning forward, arms lose. He habitably scans for deception.

“Why.” Kakashi finaly asks, voice dropping flat.  The medical attention he could understand. Doctor Wada was being paid by the hospital to give him medical care because of its poor patient vetting. This help wasn’t medical attention. Kakashi wasn’t Wada’s friend, ally, or family member. He doesn’t have ties to the man outside of being his patient and he knows Wada doesn’t pay this much attention to his other patients.

Wada continues moving from vaguely annoyed to openly exasperated, huffing, “If we don’t do this now, you’ll find it hard to rent, apply for jobs, open bank accounts, and all manner of things.”

“Why all the extra help? I’m sure I would be fine on my own,” Kakashi must clarify because Wada has obviously misunderstood his question.

“Humph.” Wada grunts, “Most of my patients have relatives and friends visiting every few days and aren’t missing all their personal records. Helping people isn’t just for the Heroes you know. Us regular people like to give it a go every now and then as well.”

 Kakashi stares as the man gives a resolute nod like he had given a valid answer Kakashi’s question.  What did being a Hero have to do with anything?

“I see.”  He really didn’t. This world was so strange.

“Unfortunately, I don’t have anything else to share.” Kakashi repeats. It was probably the most truthful he has been since waking. Kakashi has no further information for Wada even if the man’s intentions were benign.

“Yes, very unfortunate,” Wada sounds ever so slightly disappointed, “unfortunate for you. I’m not a miracle worker. You’re going to have issues with this lack of records.” He rolls back behind his desk, yanking out a stack of paper held together with thick metal clips. As he shifts objects on the desk to clear space, Wada continues, “I might be able to get you a job interview with a friend of mine and I might be able to get you into some city subsidized housing. But that’s an iffy might…all I can promise.”

Never mind that Kakashi hasn’t asked for anything let alone help with his records since his arrival.

“…thank you…your efforts are appreciated.” A ‘thank you’ would be all the man would get from Kakashi.

Wada slaps the stack of paper down on the desk flipping it Kakashi’s direction and sliding across towards him. “You can show your appreciation by paying attention. These medical records are the only  thing we do have at the moment.”

Kakashi examines the booklet, raising a questioning eyebrow.

“This is you’re recovery plan. I took the liberty of printing it out for you. Though with your quirk it’ll probably be a waste of paper.” Wada follows the sentence up with a quick, “Once you’re cleared to use it. Which you’re currently not. Don’t even think about it.”

Kakashi raises a hand in a loose calming motion.

“…and on the topic of your quirk….” Wada fusses around, patting himself down muttering, “Where is it. I swear if I lose another pen…Ah.” He pulls out a pen, leaning forward to scribble out a line of numbers and letters.

“You’re Registry ID. Won’t be for active for another week at least. But, once it is, if anyone gives you trouble for using your quirk in public you can tell them to go look up your file. I sent all your information off to be assessed and your quirk is probably going to be registered as ‘passive biological’ which is an automatic Licence Waiver if I’m remembering my law correctly.”

“Don’t quote me on that. I’m a doctor, not a legal professional. And just because you can use it, doesn’t mean you should. High-Stress quirks need to be carefully managed.”

Wada reaches over and flips the booklet open, tapping the page.

“Your quirk puts a huge strain on your brain. Specifically, it strains your memory and vision processing centres. The expert opinion is that your regenerative factor has naturally evolved to offset this physical stress.” Wada hums, pausing in his explanation to check that Kakashi is following. “Unfortunately, even with this mutation your quirk is maladaptive at best and actively destructive at worst.”

Kakashi glances at the page Wada is scribbling on. It has a diagram of a brain with serval areas now circled in blue pen ink.

“See this red area here. This means high activity. And see how it how increases when your quirk is active.” Wada flips the page, “And then activity in these outer sections drops to practically zero? None of this is good in the long term.”

Wada clears his throat, “A lot of your body’s resources are being devoted to vision and memory processing and it has subsequently led to enlargement and increased activity in these areas. This sort of imbalance in brain activity is also linked to a predisposition to depression, paranoia, anxiety, chronic stress and panic disorders. You’ll need to keep an eye on this. I have noted it in your Registry file and recommended yearly quirk assessments. I have also taken the liberty of scheduling some initial appointments with a psychologist at Hosu General,”

All this sounds somewhat familiar. He thinks in he has heard similar warnings about the Sharingan and dōjutsu users being more prone to paranoia and typically having better base reflexes than those without eye-related bloodlines.

Honestly, with the rate Uchiha went insane, is didn't surprise him that the Sharingan messed with the brain in other ways. He always had just chalked it up to the unpleasantness of retaining perfect memories of comrades dying gruesomely.

Of course, he had never hung around the hospital long enough to get a proper diagnosis beyond an understanding that he should keep use to a minimum. The Uchiha had had their own medical centres for Sharingan-related ailments which disappeared with the clan. Not like knowing meant much in the long run. Better to overuse it and suffer hypothetical consequences than underuse it and watch his allies die..

Just keep in mind while I do have a good grasp on them and what they're about I am still working on them so some stuff may change, but still! For this question I think it's easiest to talk about the song I associate and go from there. Also I had more time to think about Orpheus and Charming than I have with the other two and I haven't found a song I think screams them. But I do have some stuff to say about them.

Adding this after typing everything I wanted to, I am so sorry, Anon. I felt like I could have answered your questions in a shorter response but I just kind of threw up all my thoughts and typed them all out.

For Orpheane the song I associate her with the most is Spiral of Ants (https://youtu.be/LmDWU0pVBHE) by Lemon Demon because because she got into her current situation she felt like just another cog in the system, (She is a self-proclaimed free thinker) not feeling like she was thinking for herself, then something happened that changed her life (Spoilers) then she felt like she was given a chance to take control of her life again. For Charming uhh I think I have too many songs that I associate with her. Like Eighth Wonder by Lemon Demon (https://youtu.be/Jl117xZUHX8) especially 'I am a freak" and "You'll never get to see what in the name of God could I be'' she may think she looks beautiful and loves how sparklingly she is she may secretly relate to Creep by Radiohead (https://youtu.be/l5t9IXtTr6g) (I mean she is still barely alive, but also part ghost, and plush. Even before she may have always been raised to think she's a doesn't belong anywhere) but also she would just really love this song I've Had Enough of You (https://youtu.be/fGO1RjnprUc) because it's a song about being fed up with some with a bunch of talk about theaters. She would unironically say "Please excuse my thespian vernacular"

But in the end I think (at least for now) the song that perfectly describes her is All of my Friend by Tally Halls (https://youtu.be/nqC70w6iD84) They even said "It's hard to be Charming" and it is! But yeah a song how the singer's troubles and the lines she relates to the most is:

For Maskky just a song I can kind of see her vibing to Mask of my Own Face by Lemon Demon (https://youtu.be/8ws-49HHK60) because she sees her mask as her face, and it's a song about someone causing trouble with that mask of their own face. I mean I feel like Whatcha Playin' (https://youtu.be/gq2D1yn6J2M) and THE WORLD REVOLVING (https://youtu.be/Z01Tsgwe2dQ) Match her chaotic personality but since there's no words to tell you anything else about her, uh, let me focus on the other stuff you asked.

Maskky absolutely loves her mask and sees it as her real face. With it on she feels like she can do absolutely everything. Without it, it's an entirely different story. She's ashamed of her real face and she starts to get timid and desperate to get it back, and while yes she does have a strange curse that'll turn her into a shadow creature without it, if she wasn't cursed she would feel the same way.

For all of these characters they can relate to Beneath the Mask (https://youtu.be/iqy3E5sAa6Y) but maybe Maskky the most since, you know, she can be talking about her physical mask as well. I don't want to go into too much detail about why I relate all these guys to the songs for spoilers. But also all of them are neurodivergent (Orpheane and Maskky are definitely have ADHD and Vedas and Charming are definitely autistic, but if I'll let other decide if they have both or any other neurodivergent conditions)

But yeah, Orpheus, Vedas, and Maskky are finally letting go of feeling like they need to mask, but unfortunately, for Charming, she is far from that. Also, I forgot to mention Maskky stims by stomping. Sorry, I know you didn't ask for that, Anon, but I wanted to mention it. Also, I'm sorry I kept using Lemon Demon songs.

I shared my WIP on an old Tumblr that and someone who hadn't followed me said that the main character made them feel seen. The MC was a demisexual assassin. It had a slow-burn romance in it, but I was afraid that I was rushing it based upon this character. I'm glad that the character made them feel represented.

That is so wonderful. Especially when there are so many different ways people can react to being represented - including getting upset at how they're written. I'm so happy for you and proud of you!
