The main goal of the Surety Bond MORTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) is to ensure the successful completion of highway and road transportation projects. This involves building, repairing, and performing other duties mandated by MORTH guidelines. It assures the obligee, which is typically the government or other relevant authorities, that the principal will adhere scrupulously to the terms and conditions of the agreement. In the event of an obligation default, the surety assumes responsibility for upholding the bond's terms, protecting the obligee's interests, and guaranteeing project completion. The Surety Bond MORTH serves as the foundation for most Indian regulations about highway and road traffic. The approach in which this work is being carried out shows how committed the government is to helping with initiatives for reliable, transparent, and responsible infrastructure development. Ultimately, this will help the sustainable growth and development of the transportation sector.

NHAI targets monetisation of 2,741 km highway stretches in FY'25

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified 33 highway stretches spanning 2,741 kilometer for monetisation during the current financial year. These stretches encompass Lucknow-Aligarh, Kanpur-Ayodhya-Gorakhpur, and Bareilly-Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh; Gurugram-Kotputli-Jaipur bypass and Jaipur-Kishangarh in Rajasthan; Panikoili-Rimuli in Odisha; Chennai bypass in Tamil Nadu; and Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga-Purnia highway in Bihar. In the fiscal year 2023-24, NHAI raised Rs 40,314 crore through various asset monetisation methods, exceeding the target of Rs 28,868 crore. NHAI's total asset monetisation has crossed Rs 1 lakh crore to date. The Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways (MoRTH) raised Rs 32,855 crore in 2022-23 through various modes of asset monetisation. MoRTH monetises its assets under three modes: toll-operate-transfer (TOT) model, Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT), and project-based financing, providing all categories of investors an opportunity to invest in highways and associated infrastructure. InvIT is an instrument similar to mutual funds, pooling money from investors to invest in assets that provide cash flows over time. Read the full article

Radio-Frequency Identification

RFID is comprised of two main components: Tags and Readers. Reader is a device that has one or more antennas that emit radio waves and receive signals back from the RFID tag. On the other end, tags use radio waves to communicate their identity and other information to nearby readers. For example, an object with an embedded RFID tag that is moving through a production line or a warehouse equipped with RFID readers, can be scanned at different production stations and thus its progress can be automatically tracked. RFID systems are most commonly used for livestock tracking, inventory management, supply chain, logistics, and vehicle tracking and are prevalent in industries such as Pharma, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Retail business, and even home use. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is at the core of FASTag, the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India (MoRTH) for implementing electronic toll collection across the National Highways (NH) in India. It is aimed to ensure cashless transactions at toll plazas resulting in a near non-stop movement of traffic and hence, decongesting and streamlining the entire operation of toll collection.
