propaganda: I am very obsessed with traditional and especially biblical themes depicted in a modern way and this panting is so cool. I saw it in Kraków last year and I was immediately drawn to it without even knowing what it represented.

propaganda / about the artist: Małgorzata Mirga-Tas work often uses textiles, drawing back on her cultural background and bringing it to the forfront, the art takes up the space and attention with the bold colors and patterns, both things that are often denied to Roma in our society.

The work is based on photos taken while making preparations for the exhibition Pany Chłopy Chłopy Pany (Lords peasants peasants lords) in 2016 by the same artist, a process in which the artist family helped with the fiber work. Each woman is working on their own work, but they are connected, just like the viewer is connected to the tapestry by engaging with the art.

Małgorzata Mirga-Tas @gosiamirga (born 16.04.1978) is an international artist, sculptor, painter, activist, feminist and educator, of Romani-Polish origin.

ELEMENTS 2024 : un programme culturel eurorégional unique

Après le succès de la première édition d'ELEMENTS en 2021, 11 institutions artistiques et culturelles eurorégionales ont à nouveau uni leurs forces. En collaboration avec le public, ce réseau d'institutions artistiques célèbre la diversité et la qualité de l'art contemporain et place l'Eurorégion Meuse-Rhin sous les feux de la rampe (culturelle). Entre Sittard et Liège et entre Hasselt et Aix-la-Chapelle, ELEMENTS 2024 présentera pendant un mois des expositions et des activités spéciales actuelles, diverses et novatrices. Une fête pour tous les sens.

Au cours d'ELEMENTS, tous les éléments de l'expérience artistique seront abordés : la création, la recherche, l'observation, l'expérience, l'expérimentation et le développement des talents. Outre les expositions, les institutions participantes organiseront des activités supplémentaires telles que des performances, des conférences, des visites guidées, des ouvertures gratuites en soirée, des ateliers et des studios ouverts.

ELEMENTS 2024 se déroulera du jeudi 23 mai au dimanche 23 juin.

- Samedi 25 mai : vernissage de l'exposition et visite guidée Impossible Songs de Mikołaj Sobczak, au Jester à Genk

- Dimanche 26 mai : la productrice de télévision Karine Claassen présente Zondaggasten au Z33 à Hasselt. La première édition est un hommage à l'artiste Daan Gielis, un an après sa mort. Son œuvre est actuellement exposée dans le cadre de l'exposition Een sprong in het onbekende (Un saut dans l’inconnu)

- Vendredi 7 juin : Bonnefanten Free Friday à l'occasion de l'ouverture de l'exposition solo This is not the end of the road de Małgorzata Mirga-Tas à Bonnefanten à Maastricht.

- Dimanche 9 juin : visite guidée gratuite de Between Graveyard and Museum's Sphere à Het Nieuwe Domein à Sittard

- Mercredi 12 juin : dernière semaine In Vitro, les multiples vies du verre au Bureau Europa

propaganda: This kind of art installations are a lot about space, who gets to dominate a space, to transform it, what does it mean to transform it in which way - the artist is Roma, the specific side transformed here is a museum, showing Roma housing and objects. The article in the link is a cool read about it, and really talks about it much better than I ever could, give it a read!

Space of unknown growth by Magdalena Abakanowicz, 1998:

propaganda: At least people I've talked to seem to be more familar with Magdalena Abakanowiczs "Agora" but I wanted to high light this work in contrast. Agora with the headless humanoid figures has something creepy, the artist spoke about crowds tendency to blindly follow even into horrible violence, but it also for me has the depersonalisation/objectification of the figures which is its own form of violence - in contrast these large rocks are softer in a way, more approchable, a nicer story, the title of the work with the shape of the rocks and the surrounding forest makes me thing of seeds, hope - of course just because something is a nicer story to hear doesn't make it a better story to hear, I am glad that hard to shallow work like Agora exist, we need to think and talk about stuff that is hard, but I also like that work like "Space of Unknown Growth" exists.
