Synopsis :

Feng Shao Feng (Prince of Lan Ling) and f(x) member Victoria Song star in an epic fantasy about love, war and deception. After a vicious battle between the Empire of Snow and the Fire Tribe leaves most of the royal family dead, Prince Ka Suo (Feng) reluctantly accepts the throne. This leads to turmoil with his half-brother, Yin Kong Shi (Mandopop singer Ma Tian Yu), who now decides to become the Fire Prince, leading the tribe that works against his brother. Meanwhile, Ka Suo also loses the woman he loves, Li Luo (Song), the fearless envoy for the guards he was not allowed to marry because she wasn’t of royal birth. Years ago, the battle destroyed Ka Suo’s family, love and empire; now, another war threatens to end the last relation he has left. Adding to the tension is the Fire Prince’s mother, Lian Ji (Faith lead lady Kim Hee Sun), an invincible supreme being who causes chaos for fun, and the Fire Tribe’s royal daughter Yan Da (critically-acclaimed actress Zhang Meng), a stubborn girl with a dangerous interest in Yin Kong Shi.

My thoughts on this drama :

It's like a chinese Lords of the Ring, but with only elves and humans, and very bad special effects… But still it's a wonderful story. I had to get used to the robotic way of speaking Chinese people often have, and the weird way to convey emotions.. But all in all it's a very good show. And I fell hard for Ma Tian Yu along the way too.... Damn that boy...

Biography:

Born into a poor family with little means, her parents had decided to give her up into the convent. Arzu's parents could barely keep a roof over their heads, let alone feed and raise a child. The convent took her when she was just an infant, raised her as one of their own to grow into a priestess one day. She was formally educated, attending an all-girls private school so that she would not be tempted to leave the convent in the future. She was an exemplary student in her time, blessed both academically and athletically.

As a student, she excelled in her religious studies, well-versed in arts and poetry. Her athleticism, although widely praised, was only within traditional dances and ballet. Since young, Arzu was sickly and often bedridden so the priestesses at her convent had forbidden her from exercising too much energy and effort when it came to physical activities. A good majority of her life was spent in hospitals or in her bedroom locked away from the world. It was during these times, Arzu decided to read up on books and make use of her time knowing more about politics. 

In the tender year of her adolescence, Arzu was prone to waking up with nightmares. She would scream and cry out to the other priestesses that would come to her aid. Visions of horror, murder, and other grotesque images would come to her dreams. The priestesses, worried for her health, decided to consult their elders whether they were premonitions for the future or Arzu needed to see a doctor.

It only took a week before one of her nightmares came true, a fire burning within their city and taking the lives of many.

Before she had reached fifteen, Arzu was already given permission by elders to become a priestess instead of just an apprentice. Many sought her guidance and advice, others seeking their fortunes within her premonitions. Yet, her premonitions were scarce and it was later on known, that only her nightmares are the true premonitions that people should be cautious of.

In her time at the convent, many religious members and elders were quite divided of the predicament about humans and Spirits living together. The ones that Arzu followed were those who believed that Spirits are much higher beings than humans. Humans, unworthy animals who should not mingle with gods. 

Years had passed and Arzu was initiated into Yin by one of her seniors. She was devout to their cause and her popularity within their followers had become essential. Rising into the ranks with ease as she was both intellectual and gifted with managing people, by the time Arzu was in her 30’s she had been promoted into becoming a chapter head within the Earth Kingdom. Making her the youngest member to attain such a high position within their faction.

Connection:

The Protector - The current leader of the group and someone whom Arzu holds high respect for. Even though Chikao and Arzu have different views when it comes to spirits, it’s no secret that they both have the same goal. She puts their difference aside in favor of achieving their goal. Whatever Chikao wants and needs, she procures it when she can from her followers.

The Casanova - An icon and well-loved leader within in their country. Although the Casanova and Arzu hold positions in vastly different areas, it is no secret that they are both members of the same faction. They regularly meet and plan their next move for the cause.

The Devout - A fellow worshiper. Even if they are not from the same religion, the Devout is someone whom Arzu considers as a friend. In her life as a priestess, they often travel to see and worship those from other religions and countries. The Devout is someone who has been kind enough to become her friend in her journeys.

The Cold Heart - Akito is one of the few people who Arzu is actually close with. In times of advise and need, she would often come to the other for help. She finds fascination and a sense of camaraderie with him. Even if at times, it would seem as though she annoys Akito, she can’t help but be curious of the man and wants to know more about him.
