alrighty. doing a sisters series, both main series and f&b (in two chunks, i’m only one woman). so far the list is

sansa and arya, wynafryd and wylla, ashara and allyria, bethany and barbrey, catelyn and lysa, irri and jhiqui, val and dalla, the sand snakes, the mormont sisters, and the hightower sisters for main asoiaf. pls tell me if i’m missing anyone

I was just reading about the Byzantine empress Zoe and I wondered if she and her sisters could be the basis for the three maids in the maiden vault? Can u think of any other inspirations GRM may have used?

Only way to find out would be to ask GRRM, but it’s possible that the Maidenvault owes something to Basil II and confining his nieces to the gynaeceum, though the motivations were much different. I can see him putting in a little Empress Zoe and her sisters as part of his historical remix style. You might want to ask @goodqueenaly though, she’s my go-to pick for knoweldge on royal gals throughout history.
