The Transfer Part 2:
Lin’s POV
She was late, the sleeping tea Kya had given her knocked her out real good and now she was rushing to the station. From all the days to be late, it had to be the day the transfer was arriving. This wasn't the first impression she wanted to give. She managed to get to the station just fifteen minutes late. Rushing to the front desk she threw some paperwork before speaking.
“Jia, is the transfer already here?”
The girl looked at the clock. “She's been here for about forty minutes. Got here before her shift even started.”
Lin groaned. “How was she?” At least you were responsible, you started on a good note.
“She's dreamy and also charming.” Jia mused over you with dreamy eyes.
Lin rolled her own in annoyance. “I need important details like her name Jia, and stop flirting with the newbie.”
“Her name is Y/N Y/L/N, her documents say she's from Ba Sing Se’s middle ring police department. Chief’s Lei Ba firebender unit.”
Lin nodded. “I’ll get the rest from her.”
The chief walked towards the elevator and out to the top floor. Where she stood she could see you from behind, your long back hair softly braided. She walked by you towards her office unlocking it and looking back to see you staring at her. Weird kid.
“Y/N my office now.” She said walking in.
When Lin sat down she was already annoyed at your talkative behavior. She could see the paperwork you were holding and she extended her hand to take it. For some ungodly reason you took her hand, firmly. You didn't even shake it, just took it. Lin had so many emotions going through her head. Confusion, uneasiness, annoyance, anger and a bit uncomfortable.
“Soft.”
Lin snapped her hand back. Who the hell is this little shit?!
“WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOIG?!” Lin already disliked you very much.
Your cheeks had gone deep red as your body tensed, The Chief could see the terror written on your face.
“CHIEF YOU EXTENDED YOUR HAND-”
Is this kid brain dead or something?!
“THE DOCUMENTS YOU IDIOT!” Lin wanted to smack you in the face, you were dumber than a rock.
You froze and Lin snatched the paperwork not waiting any longer. The hell is wrong with her. Isn't she supposed to be the best at her job? Rookies. She stared at the document, reading only the important information.
“What was your division back in Ba Sing Se?”
“Undercover and special forces, Chief”
Lin flipped the page to the next one. She could see a few notes her previous boss had left for her.
‘Officer Y/N Y/L/N
Element: Fire
Age: 25
Nationality: United Republic of Nations
Abilities: Fire and lighting bending, good swordsmanship, able to work under pressure, quick learner.
Injuries: None
Disabilities: None-’
Lin kept reading more descriptions on your job and the things you did in Ba Sing Se. Your previous boss had given you a wonderful recommendation letter and was probably the only thing keeping you there at the moment.
“Not bad, not remarkable either.” Lin sighed internally. She would give you at least one chance to redeem yourself and not make a fool again.
“We have a few rules we do- LOOK AT ME WHEN I'M TALKING Y/N.” What the hell is she looking at?!
Lin explained the three capital rules keeping her eyes glued to yours. It was an intimidation tactic that she enjoyed very much, it helped her see who had backbone and who didn't. You? You were confusing to her. You looked petrified but also confident at the same time. An absolute idiot in her words, and after everything was said she sent you off.
“Get the hell out of my office.”
Lin starred as you walked out of her office not daring to look back. The officers were going to chew on their new toy, probably embarrassing her even more but it wasn't Lin’s concern. The Chief just sat and waited for the office to renew their chatter and noise before continuing reading the paperwork you left her.
Idiot. She thought. But she couldn't help massaging her hands together as a blush covered her own cheeks. They were indeed soft.
______________
You groaned letting your head fall on the coffee table. Jia decided she had to take you out of the office at lunch time, keeping you far from the officers that were making fun of you.
“I'm never going to live this down.” You felt like crying.
“Don't worry, new rookies will arrive and soon someone will do something far more stupid.” The woman spoke as she ate her food.
“I GRABBED HER HAND!” You yelled punching the table. “DIDN'T EVEN SHAKE IT! I JUST-” You remake the movement.
Jia laughed. “Relax Y/N, just don't do anything stupid for no on and she'll forget it. It's not like she's going to replay the same thing over and over again. You did something stupid once, i'll pass.” She said nonchalantly.
The waitress arrived with your food settling down on your side.
“Eat Y/N, you don't get breaks.”
Taking her advice you start eating. You find Jia’s company as a big relief. She talked about life in the city and the things going on around it. After forty minutes you already knew all the gossip in the city and celebrity drama.
“Do you know what the Chief would like? I want to give her an apology pastry.”
“Black coffee with a glaze donut.” Jia responded as she finished her drink.
“Noted!” I got up and ordered, making sure they placed it in a nice little box. “Okay, you were saying something about Zhu li and Varrick?”
“Oh yes! Well like I was saying-” She started as you both exited the cafe.
“-And then the Avatar came out and it turns out she is dating Asami Sato! The engineer and CEO of Future Industries.” Jia said as you both stepped into the station.
“That's so cool.” You respond as you watch the clock. It's time to head back, Jia waves and you return it. “See ya later!”
Both of you part ways and you head to the elevator. As you walked holding the box, the Chief steps next to you. You were trying to muster the courage to give her the box but couldn't find it. You decide that the floor is fascinating and keep your attention on the noise the door opening would make. Her boots catch your eyes as you slowly trail up your gaze, you inspect her armor until it reaches her neck. From the corner of your eye you see her face, she's staring at the door so you stare some more. Then she looks directly at you, a terrifying stare that maybe lasted less than a second as you snapped your eyes towards the door.
“It's disrespectful to stare, officer Y/N.” She says sternly.
“M-My apologies chief. I- I” You studder. Fuck!
“If you used your mouth less you wouldn't get yourself into uncomfortable situations.”
“Actually my mouth has gotten me out of uncomfortable situations.” You shoot back.
She looks at you with a frown and rolls her eyes.
“J-Just not at the moment.” You speak nervously.
She looks down at the small box and you decide it's now or never.
“Chief I- Well- You know- I- '' You stutter, making things worse.
“For crying out loud, spit it out!” She barks.
You thrust the box to her hands, she stumbles lightly, a soft confused look on her face. “THIS IS FOR YOU- AN APOLOGY MA'AM! I'M SORRY FOR BEING AWKWARD, YOU ARE JUST VERY INTIMIDATING.” Your face was redder than a flame and hotter than one.
With that the door rang and you ran out without giving her a chance to say anything, good or bad. You ran to the bathroom and stayed for a few minutes until you felt it was safe to come out again. Walking back to your desk you continue working. Maybe I can fix this, you thought.
___________________
Mako was assigned to be your partner. The guy wasn't so bad, just moody like a teenager. He liked to act like a tough guy but he was also kind to people. The chief had ordered for him to take you on patrol so you could see the city and get used to it.
“Down that street is the entrance to a few gang lands, you don't want to go there alone.” He said as you two passed through a neighborhood. The rest of the ride was silent as they kept driving around.
“Hey Mako, can I ask you something?”
“Go ahead.”
“Is the Chief always that rough and intimidating? Like, is that her real self or like a persona?”
Mako chuckled. “You'll have to find out. As long as you follow orders and don't barge into her office things will go smoothly.”
You nood and start talking about gangs and wars. The topic of the avatar came out and you found out Mako had dated both Asami and Korra. The conversation drifted to past relationships and you disclosed your past experiences, Mako relaxed and opened up about liking both men and women but not wanting to be out.
“No judgement here. It looked like you needed to tell someone.” You said softly and finally you saw him smile.
“Thanks. And the Chief isn't always rough, she's actually really kind and has a huge heart. Don't tell her I told you.”
You beamed. “I KNEW IT!” Something in you felt warm and at that moment you promised yourself that you would make her smile or laugh even just once.
He shakes his head. “Time to go back, the next patrol unit will be here in a few minutes.”
The rest of the day went slow, mountains of paperwork and a lot of coffee. Your shift had ended an hour ago but you still had to finish a few documents before heading out, Mako had already left along with everyone else. Glancing at the Chief’s office you could see her light on.
‘Well if Mako isn't here I'll give her the paperwork myself’ You thought as you walked over knocking on the door.
“Come in-” Her irritated voice boomed.
You walked in with your work and placed it on her desk. “Just finished this, didn't want to leave it for tomorrow.”
She narrowed her eyes. “What? You want an award or something?”
You couldn't help but smile, this was just her facade. “Just doing my job. See you tomorrow Chief.” You started to walk out.
“Y/N-” She spoke. “Do your job and nothing more. You don't get extra stars for things I didn't ask.”
“I know Chief! Good night.” You wave goodbye and start to head back to your satomobile. Tomorrow would be better.

So, uh. It's 3 am and I have come after reading the rest of Anomaly in one sitting. So ideas are not ordered at all
I am tearing uppp ;-; idk where to begin,, just everything was so right aaaa
I really liked Mako's character development and the relationships with other characters :)) Kurama was obvious, but it didn't make it worse in any way, I am very soft for the two. Yusuke is another obvious, but by far my favourite platonic dynamic, more so at the last chapters (I will get onto those in another paragraph) they tease the hell of each other, share hardships and are there for each other in happy moments too,, I really really loved their interactions! As for Hiei, not too much of mushy things (obviously, but I really liked how low-key was their friendship(? acquaintance (?? they are in the middle of the two words, enough to have Hiei on character). The one I didn't expect was the Kuwabara-Makoto friendship? Like, I read how they were awkward in Shiori's wedding (queen) but I feel it was really natural, like when you are at the beginning of a friendship and still don't know how to make conversation,, and the next chapters only enforced that :)) it made me very happy somehow!
As for the girls, I have a lot of things to say! They were so funny in the DT arc and you captured their character so well during and after it, I felt it was impossible for Makoto to stay away completely. I feel that if they were real they would be the type of people who just suck others into their orbit without being overbearing, and they made such a nice mix! Of course with their differences and not too close (like Fumi and Mako, for example!) but just enough to feel good while reading their interactions ♡
About Fumi's decision to swore off men, you go girl it's best choice lmao and for Chizuru, damn jealous
The last two chapters were too much for my poor heart, it was beating like crazy while I was laughing. Chapter 25 is such a Mess™ (plot-like I mean, poor Mako can't have a rest) and it was in tune with the anime/manga Mess™ also accidental marriage proposal + accidental confession? Sign me up. The chapter I enjoyed the most by far and that is saying a lot because there isn't a single chapter I haven't enjoyed. But that sweet scene between Mako and Kurama when he appears in chapter 26 and the proposal to go to Makai together? That made me mush and melt in my bed. Repeatedly. I have not simped so hard for a pairing like them.
Honorable mentions: 1. Mako being petty as hell is my new religion and I shall follow through. The fox plushy. I will never forget. Also, reminding your half-boyfriend he stood you up/making puns about stolen things AND nagging him because he cannot end a fight without needing a hospital? True gf material/j
2. The part when mako went to Kyoto again & the encounter with the fox demon and the will-o-wisp is one of my favorite scenes too. I don't know why, it just is.
3. I live for Doraemon crumbs. I love the cat.
I don't think I have anymore to say for now JAJAJA if I remember anything I will come back, but for now I will go cry into my bed because there isn't more Mako&Kurama-- /hj
Once again, best wishes (>︿<。)♡
I woke up in the middle of the night, saw this at 4 AM and proceeded to fall unconscious again.
Writing Kurama’s relationship with Mako was fun because there’s this person in a very similar situation to him but with a ridiculous age gap and a totally different outlook on life, and I like that what sparked the whole thing was that both thought that the other was really fucking weird and they wanted to know more. I seriously didn’t know how the thing was going to pan out. I feel like Anomaly wrote itself and the characters held the wheel the whole time. As I said, same applies to Yusuke. I thought Mako would dismiss him as an idiot and he’d avoid her because of her personality, but Yusuke’s such an open person and Mako’s so unused to not being judged that they just. Clicked. (This is canon btw: after Anomaly, Yusuke’s roping Mako into helping with his Spirit Detective-lite cases in exchange for ramen. He did it at first when he was stumped and Kurama wasn’t available, but now he does it whenever he feels like it because he relishes in knowing he has the power to summon her from the mountains. She complains all the time but goes anyway.) I was a little sad that in the end Hiei didn’t show up much in the fic because he didn’t cross paths with Mako many times. I think they have this sort of distant respect for one another and they’re like, this is not the first nor second person I would go to for help, but if shit hits the fan the other’s going to be there and that’s what matters. Hiei’s opinion of Makoto hinged on Kurama’s (“I respect this guy and he seems to respect her”) and Yukina’s (“they get along”) own impression of her. Yes to the observation about her and Kuwabara! They’re still learning how to talk to each other. But they’re trying! Look at them fumbling their way through a social situation!
Makoto was a fool for even thinking she could escape the grasp of the other girls. She’s one of them now, whether she likes it or not, and I like how clear that was when she was all worried about Yusuke possibly dying again and asked Atsuko for a hug, and Atsuko just jumped at the opportunity. This is her kid too. She didn’t know what to do with the first kid, much less a second, but she’s going to take her anyway.
Fumi/Shizuru is the true power couple of the fic and it happens in the background because otherwise they’d take over the story.
I was so unsure about those extra chapters. I’m always afraid to touch Anomaly because I think I finished it the best way possible and I’m terrified of messing it up by adding more to it. I wish I had the drive right now to work on the sequel(s) and other extra chapters I had in mind, but for now and as long I’m lost in the Grand Line, I’m satisfied that you find it satisfying. <3
1. Hey, Kurama’s a little shit, so if he can dish it, he can take it. This is a balanced relationship.
2. I loved writing that part! Everything is told from Makoto’s perspective, but this was purely her part of the story, not Yusuke’s, and it shows in the general feel of the chapter. I don’t know how to say it, but it’s very Mako? She has a way to look at creepy and make it feel natural instead of scary.
3. Look. Mako picks up on other people’s thoughts and feelings, not hers. This cat loves her so much that little Mako got a vision from him before they met, that's why she knew where to find him. He trips her all the time but that's because he's a tsundere. Can’t let her go soft.
Thank you so much for your messages, you’ve made my day again. (*’∀’人)♥ Take care!!

Jedi AU, part 3
Here’s part 3 of the Korra Jedi AU I’ve been tinkering with. No major character deaths this time. Just Korra recovering from her injuries and getting a new arm and leg out of it. I also establish a little more backstory here. Also, I made Sokka a Jedi. Feedback is always welcome. (Part 1, Part 2)
Korra felt the rock strike her hand again, breaking bones and sending the lightsaber flying from her grip. Zaheer hurled another barrage of rocks and debris into her chest and face faster than her poisoned legs could dodge, throwing her backward to the rocky ground. Unable to focus to get her saber back, she watched helplessly yet again as Zaheer pulled her weapon to himself and sliced it in half with his dual-saber.
The lightsaber had belonged to Tenzin’s uncle, a great Jedi Master named Sokka. Losing the weapon still made Korra ache inside when she thought of it.
The dream continued, as it always did, with Korra feeling Zaheer slam her against yet another boulder while the poison continued to ravage her body. Ribs and a shoulder fractured at the impact, and Korra could feel the ache once again as her body reacted to the memory.
As before, she felt the terror and helplessness as Zaheer used the Force to lift her broken body by the neck, holding her several feet off the ground. Again, she felt the iron grip of those unseen fingers, crushing the life from her throat. She remembered preparing for the end to come.
But a new presence intervened—a presence darker than Zaheer and all of his Red Lotus combined.
Horrifying mechanical breathing filled the darkened canyon, and the sound of another lightsaber ignited from somewhere behind Korra, adding a red glow to the blue from Zaheer’s saber. She saw Zaheer’s face turn pale as he dropped her to the dirt in a heap. Barely conscious, Korra watched again as her attacker backed away in panic. The last thing she recalled before blacking out was a massive, black presence striding past her as Zaheer continued to back away.
Whether in this nightmare from her past or in visions of possible futures, that black presence now haunted her dreams almost nightly. Korra felt her breathing calm as the darkness subsided. Alerted to the presence of the Red Lotus and its anarchist Dark Jedi—Zaheer, Ming Hua, Ghazan, and P’Li—Darth Vader and the 501st Legion arrived to deal with the threat.
According to Suyin, none of the Red Lotus on planet survived Vader’s visit.
How Korra was alive, no one knew. Lin and Jinora found her and got her to safety while the Imperials were busy wiping out the Lotus. Days later, some of Su’s scouts discovered Zaheer’s saberstaff while investigating the battle site. They gave it to Su, who gave it to Tenzin, who gave it to Korra as a replacement for the saber she’d lost.
But three years after her defeat, it was that dark shadow, not Zaheer, that continued to haunt Korra’s nightmares. Though he’d poisoned, broken, tortured, and brutalized her for hours, Zaheer was somehow less terrifying than the dark presence that she’d only seen for a moment before passing out.
Korra’s mouth felt dry as she began to wake up. She found herself baffled at the fact that she was waking up at all. Her last memories were of battling the Empire. She’d been burned by a Flametrooper and took at least one clip from a blaster bolt, but continued to fight on. She’d resigned herself to dying at the Imperials’ hands to defend those she cared about, rather than risk meeting Vader again.
And now she was waking up.
Korra opened her eyes, then gasped and closed them again against the light. Why did people insist on keeping her in bright rooms every time she awoke from unconsciousness?
“Korra?” a familiar and welcome voice asked to her right.
“Hey, Jinora,” she rasped, opening her eyes slowly this time and trying to focus on her young friend.
She felt Jinora take her right hand. Her left hand and arm felt… wrong somehow… heavy…
“I am really, really glad you’re alive,” Jinora murmured, clutching Korra’s hand. “We weren’t sure you’d make it.”
“I was pretty sure I wouldn’t,” Korra admitted, her eyes finally focusing. She could see the tears in Jinora’s eyes as she pressed her cheek against Korra’s hand.
“I don’t think I could have handled losing you and Dad in the same day,” Jinora said, squeezing Korra’s hand again before laying it back on the bed.
“I am so sorry about—” she cut off as she started to reach her left hand across to comfort Jinora. Her left hand that was now made from metal and wires and tiny hydraulics…
In her peripheral vision she noticed Jinora bite her lower lip apprehensively, but Korra’s attention was focused on the metal appendage attached to her left shoulder.
“Huh,” was all she said, flexing the cybernetic digits. “So that’s why my arm felt weird.”
“Yeah, they had to replace your left arm, and Aunt Kya says they’ll replace your left leg once the prosthetics arrive tomorrow,” Jinora explained.
“Neat!” Korra laughed, moving the arm back and forth. “Who’s ‘Aunt Kya’?” she asked, watching the servos move in her elbow.
“That would be me,” a new voice said from the door. Korra looked up to see a handsome, middle-aged woman with greying hair standing in the doorway. She wore blue and white medic’s robes and a rank insignia that Korra couldn’t identify. “Welcome to the Alliance medical frigate, Redemption, Jedi Korra,” she continued, stepping into the room and sitting on the bed next to Korra’s. “How’s the arm working out so far? We’ve got ways to cover it if you’d prefer. Some of them almost look as convincing as the original.”
“It’s great,” Korra smiled as she repeatedly picked up and dropped the edge of her blanket. “Can we cover it in plastoid armor? Maybe even paint some old pieces of Stormtrooper armor dark blue with a light blue stripe down the center and attach them to the prosthetics.”
“I’ll see what we can do,” Kya promised, chuckling. “We’ll get the leg attached as soon as it arrives, then give you a couple weeks to recover and learn how to use and maintain the cybernetics.”
“Sounds perfect,” Korra assured her. “So, Aunt Kya, huh?” she inquired next, resting her chin on her metal palm, just for the novelty of being able to do so.
“Yeah, it turns out Jinora’s dad is my long-lost brother, Tenzin,” Kya laughed, leaning back. “I was about four or five years old when the Jedi Temple took him away for training, like they did my Mom’s brother, Sokka, when he was a kid. Uncle Sokka I actually met a few times, but my little brother I never saw again.”
“Aunt Kya and I got to comparing notes while you were recovering and figured out that we’re related,” Jinora added, finally smiling. “Her older brother, Bumi, actually led the transports that came to evacuate Su’s people after the battle a week ago. Weird coincidence, huh?”
“You know what your dad would say about coincidences,” Korra chided, smirking. “But, yeah, the Force works in weird ways, sometimes. More than one Jedi philosopher has theorized that it even has a sense of irony.”
“That makes a weird kind of sense,” Jinora agreed. “I remember Dad talking about that.”
“Anyway, I figured you were hungry, so I’ve got food coming up from the galley already,” Kya informed her. “Other than that, it’s probably best if you rest up for now.”
“I doubt I can go very far,” Korra laughed it off.
“I’ve got other wounded to check up on, and we had to evacuate a listening post a few hours ago, so I’m expecting even more here really soon,” Kya apologized, standing. “But I’ll try to find time to check back on you later.”
“Sounds good, and thanks,” Korra assured her.
Kya winked and left.
Korra was sipping tea and working her way around these dry Alliance rations when a familiar boisterous voice sounded from the doorway.
“Korra!” Bolin laughed, rushing in to hug her. “You’re okay! Oops, right, mind the arm, sorry…” he trailed off, eyeing her new arm.
“I’m glad to see you’re alright,” Opal added, entering just behind Bolin. “You looked really bad when they brought you in.”
“I’ve had worse,” Korra assured them as Opal leaned over to hug her.
“Yeah, sure you have,” Mako chuckled from the doorway. Behind him followed an attractive young woman with long, wavy dark hair. The woman wore a baggy, crimson flight uniform, but somehow managed to look shapely and elegant in it.
Mako and Bolin both wore drab-grey Alliance infantry uniforms, while Opal wore a charcoal infiltrator jumpsuit with clips at the shoulders and waist to attach light combat armor. Hugging Mako in turn, Korra was fairly impressed with how professional and military her friends looked.
“No, actually, she’s had worse injuries. Like, a lot worse,” Jinora confirmed for Korra.
“Jeeze, when was that?” Bolin asked. “Oh, this is Asami, by the way,” he added, introducing the pilot.
The elegant woman with the wonderful light-green eyes smiled graciously and extended a gloved hand. “Lovely to meet you,” Asami assured her. “I’ve never met a Jedi before; it’s a pleasure to finally meet one.”
“The pleasure is all mine,” Korra smiled, raising Asami’s hand to smooch a gloved knuckle. Asami looked surprised but not unflattered by the gesture.
“But to answer your question, Bolin,” Korra went on, releasing Asami’s hand. “Did you hear anything about that Red Lotus group that infiltrated Imperial City back home three years ago?”
“Um, yeah, some kind of anarchist group, right?” Bolin answered, searching his memory.
“And several of the higher-ranking members were exiled Jedi, according to some reports,” Asami added, sitting by Jinora.
“I remember hearing from Su that you got hurt during that, but she never said how bad,” Mako frowned.
Korra nodded, suppressing a grimace at the memory. “Tenzin, Lin, and I were among the first to respond. I got captured during the Lotus’s evacuation from the city. They poisoned me before I could escape, and I ended up fighting two of their leaders. I took out Ghazan, but that maniac Zaheer broke half the bones in my body and was about to crush my neck when–when—” she cut off with a shudder, gasping and struggling to control her breathing as Vader’s shadow loomed across her memories once again.
“Maybe we should talk about something else,” Jinora suggested carefully.
Korra just nodded, closing her eyes and leaning back. She focused on clearing her mind to slow her breathing. As her breathing calmed, so did her heartbeat.
“Um, okay, so I have a question,” Bolin offered, sitting on a nearby bed next to Opal. “So back when we were playing Shockball, back in Zaofu and Imperial City, were we technically cheating by having a Jedi on our team?”
Korra chuckled and opened one eye. “Yep,” she answered, grinning. She could almost hear Mako roll his eyes as the others laughed. Asami had a particularly pleasant laugh that Korra made a goal of trying to hear more often in the future.
