It was purchased earlier According to sources cited by Bloomberg, the Chinese company Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. used ASML Holding NV equipment to produce modern single-chip systems for Chinese Huawei smartphones. Despite US sanctions, Huawei surprised the world in August by introducing the new Mate 60/60 Pro series with 5G connectivity and the latest SoC. A teardown of the device conducted by TechInsights for Bloomberg confirmed that the chip was manufactured by SMIC. This raised questions about the effectiveness of the sanctions and how SMIC was able to produce the chip. ASML plays a key role in the global chip supply chain. It has a monopoly on advanced extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems needed to produce the most advanced chips and also supplies deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography machines. Huawei Mate 60 Pro 7nm SoC chip was manufactured on ASML equipment [caption id="attachment_73807" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Huawei Mate 60 Pro[/caption] ASML was unable to sell its EUV machines to China due to export restrictions. But less advanced DUV models could be retrofitted with deposition and etch equipment to produce 7nm and perhaps even better chips, according to industry analysts. This process is much more expensive than using EUV, making it difficult to scale production in a competitive market environment. However, in China, the government is willing to bear a significant portion of the cost of producing chips. Chinese companies have been legally stockpiling DUV equipment for years - especially after the US imposed initial export controls last year and then won over Japan and the Netherlands. Pressure from President Joe Biden's administration prompted the Dutch government last summer to announce plans to ban ASML from supplying three of its four most advanced DUV immersion lithography machine models to China. Currently, ASML can still export these products to China, but shipments will be prohibited from January. New controls announced by the Biden administration this month further restrict DUV exports.

Samsung, on the contrary, has a 16% drop in shipments in the first half of 2023. Huawei is set to double its smartphone shipment target next year, two industry sources told Nikkei Asia. That is, the company expects to sell from 60 to 70 million smartphones. This decision is due to the success of the Mate 60 line - the devices are selling like hotcakes in China. [caption id="attachment_64858" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Huawei Mate 60[/caption] Huawei will double its smartphone shipments following the success of the Mate 60 Nikkei Asia, citing numerous industry sources, reports that Huawei has already begun to implement its plans: the company is actively purchasing various components - lenses, camera sensors, circuit boards - to ensure uninterrupted production of smartphones. Of course, to overtake Samsung smartphones in supplies, you need to increase production plans not by two times, but by five, but the Koreans themselves can help here: an unclear policy regarding new models led to the fact that deliveries of Samsung devices in the first half of this year decreased by 16 %. The company expected to deliver 136 million smartphones to the market but delivered 114 million. If Samsung’s delivery schedule continues to fall, and Huawei’s schedule continues to rise, then in the next few years the lines will cross.

99% of reviews are positive The Huawei Mall store today began selling a new version of the flagship smartphone Huawei Mate 60 Pro, which is equipped with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of flash memory. This is the junior version of the flagship, which is priced at $890 in China. Previously, versions with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB / 1 TB of flash memory went on sale. Currently, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro line has received more than 40,000 user reviews on the Huawei Mall, with 99% of them being positive. [caption id="attachment_58514" align="alignnone" width="780"] Huawei Mate 60 Pro[/caption] Huawei Mate 60 Pro users never cease to admire Although the Huawei Mall parameters page does not indicate the model of the single-chip system installed in the Mate 60 Pro, it was previously known that the smartphone is equipped with a Kirin 9000S chip. Analysis of the single-chip system of the Mate 60 Pro smartphone shows that Huawei was really able to create a modern platform for smartphones. Four of the eight cores in the Mate 60 Pro SoC are entirely based on Arm designs, while the remaining four cores are custom and contain Huawei's own designs. It's worth noting that Huawei also introduced satellite calling functionality on the Mate 60 Pro, making it the world's first mainstream smartphone to support satellite calling.
