Andrew looks at him, "Are you being serious with it having saved your life?" he asks.

"Yeah at least twice now." Alex says.

"How?" he asks. "Were you in a trap where the only way out was to solve some crazy math problem?" he asks still not sure how in the world math would save Alex's life once, let alone at least twice.

"It's not that." Alex laughs bumping his shoulder into Andrew in a way that Andrew has come to relish.

That first night with Alex starts something for Andrew.

He took Alex's hand, trusted him, and not for a single moment did Andrew find himself regretting that trust. That first night was Alex and him walking around the dark neighborhood, avoiding patrolling cop cars, and talking about what they'd do in the event that a tsunami was coming for California.

"You really wouldn't get on a plane with me?" Alex asks.

"You're flying the plane?" Andrew confirms as if his memory would let him forget Alex's bold claim.
