Austin Brookshire, Mississippi inmate 246060, born 2001, incarceration intake in August 2023 at age 21, sentenced to life
Murder
Brookshire, one of two men charged in the murder of Willie “Chill” Jones, a Picayune man who went missing and was later found dead in 2020, was sentenced to life in prison in July 2023.
On July 6, 2020, Jones was reported missing to the Picayune Police Department by his family.
Austin R. Brookshire and his half-brother Dustin Michael Gray, 24, of Picayune, who Jones considered a friend, had planned to rob Jones of a large amount of money he was keeping in a box, according to press accounts.
Brookshire then shot and killed Jones in the backseat of Dustin Gray’s car in Pearl River County and took Jones’ body to a wooded area on Texas Flat Road in Hancock County, where they buried him in a shallow grave, according to records.
An affidavit from the case said that Gray then attempted to get his car washed but employees at the car wash he went to refused after seeing the blood in the backseat.
Gray’s wife was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and allegedly helped try to clean the vehicle before fleeing with Gray to Pueblo, Colorado, where they were eventually picked up by authorities and extradited back to Mississippi.
Gray’s father, attorney James L. “Jim” Gray, turned over Gray’s vehicle to the police after seeing the blood in the backseat. Jim Gray received threats and his office was burned down as his son was on the run from authorities.
Misinformation spread through rumors on social media led to right-wing militias gathering in Picayune over false notions that instead of a vigil for a missing Black man, a group of Black Lives Matter and Antifa supporters were going to allegedly burn down the town. That did not happen, but right wing militia members amassed in Picayune anyway without violence.
Austin Brookshire was found guilty in a trial on May 24, 2023.

Issue 19 of The Brasilia Review, November 2017
For when you shop: regular red-eye remover drops mildly sting after application. Get the kind with moisture. Regular red-eye remover drops aren’t silica or other base elements. They are liquids and ipso facto have moisture. But this word on the outer box of differentiating red-eye remover drops means the post facto hardly sting isn’t there at all. Set the atoms of a million base elements, that when combined form red-eye remover drops, in a petri dish. Introduce the chemical process that will join all the atoms into red-eye remover drop molecules at the same time. Is there a nanosecond at the instant of combination where the molecules exist, and thus voila c’est! red-eye remover drops, but the petri dish is not yet wet?
Rob Cook lives with someone who almost isn’t there. Matthew James Friday continues his sharp series of Europea quotidiana. Margaryta Golovchenko lives where the sound in the air melds with its hearer. Sandeep Kumar Mishra thinks his way out of a trap. And Joel Schueler has enough heart left to generate disgust — a feat in our drug-evened world.
Kleist is our first of three excerpts this issue. His prose is like walking on old leaves that have never seen the rain. Musset is more philosophical, a frequent claimant as quick witted as a comedian. Johnson in all his non-fiction pens prose as he would lecture. Here his eye turns critical in a manner we bardolators do not often hear.
Check out cover artist Guy Benjamin Brookshire’s stunning podcast, The Republic of Sin.

Dustin Gray, Mississippi inmate 247047, born 1995, incarceration intake in October 2023 at age 28, sentenced to life
Capital Murder
A second brother convicted of capital murder in the robbery and killing of Pearl River County resident Willie “Chill” Jones is headed to prison for life without the possibility of parole, Peal River County District Attorney Hall Kitrell said in a release.
A jury convicted Dustin Michael Gray, of Picayune, of capital murder, following a trial in August 2023. His sentencing was deferred until October 2023, when Judge Prentiss Howell imposed the sentence.
Gray and his half-brother, Austin Brookshire (inmate 246060), have now been sentenced to life without parole in Jones’s July 6, 2020, robbery and killing.
According to court records and other interviews, Jones considered the brothers’ friends and met up with them the morning he disappeared.
The brothers planned before the killing to steal $40,000 in cash that Jones had on him in the metal box he stores his money in.
Pearl River county investigators determined Brookshire shot and killed Jones in the backseat of Gray’s car, and then the two brothers buried his body in a shallow grave near Texas Flat Road in Hancock County.
In the aftermath of the killing, the family of Jones, who is Black, held vigils for him, and the community came together to search for his body.
Gray’s father ultimately turned in information that led authorities to suspect Gray’s involvement in the killing.
His father, attorney James L. “Jim” Gray, called authorities after he found blood in Gray’s car. Gray and his wife, Erica Deleon Gray, went on the run for days before officers caught up with them.
Afterward, Gray’s father received online threats, and someone burned his office to the ground under what authorities called suspicious circumstances.
Once Gray was in custody, Brookshire was later identified as the gunman.
The killing occurred the same year a law enforcement officer was arrested in the killing of another Black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis, which resulted in national cries for justice from various groups, including Black Lives Matter.
Misinformation soon spread about the circumstances leading to the killing in Pearl River County, prompting right-wing militias to gather in Picayune on the false premise that Black Lives Matter and Antifa supporters planned to burn the city to the ground.
No violence occurred.

Online Marketers Charged With Conning Main Street Investors Through Rags-to-Riches Infomercials
The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged a group of internet marketers who allegedly created and disseminated elaborate rags-to-riches videos to trick retirees and other retail investors into opening brokerage accounts and trading high-risk securities known as binary options.
According to the SEC’s complaints, investors were conned out of tens of millions of dollars through these marketing campaigns, which promised that investors would make large amounts of money by opening binary options accounts and using free or secret software systems to trade in them. The SEC alleges that the marketers were paid for each new brokerage account that investors opened and funded. According to the complaints, the marketers’ internet video advertisements, which were disseminated through spam emails, used actors to portray ordinary people who became millionaires by trading binary options. The videos staged fake demonstrations of supposed software users watching their account balances grow in real time. The SEC alleges that the software was simply a ruse to persuade investors to open accounts with the brokers.
To help educate investors about the risks of internet marketing scams, the SEC’s Retail Strategy Task Force and Office of Investor Education and Advocacy created the first in a series of videos warning investors of the risks of providing personal information in response to online investment pitches, and have issued an Investor Alert about the use of affiliate marketing to generate interest in securities offerings.
“As alleged in our complaints, thousands of retail investors were swindled out of tens of millions of dollars by watching elaborately produced rags-to-riches stories that falsely promised wealth at the push of a button,” said Melissa Hodgman, Associate Director of the SEC’s Enforcement Division. “Those who use phony tactics to dupe investors out of their savings will be held accountable for false and misleading statements on the internet.”
“Before you provide any of your valuable personal information to anyone, make sure you do your research and know exactly who it’s going to,” said Lori Schock, Director of the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy.  “Be aware before you share, and protect yourself from professional fraudsters who may target you and your money for life.”
The SEC’s complaints charged 10 individuals and two companies involved in the fraudulent marketing campaigns. The SEC’s investigation is continuing.
The SEC’s complaints seek penalties, disgorgement of ill-gotten gains, and permanent injunctions against Timothy J. Atkinson, Ronald “Ronnie” Montano, Jay Passerino, Michael Wright, and All In Publishing LLC.  Justin Blake Barrett, William E. Berry and his company Berry Mediaworks, Grayson Brookshire, Antonio Giacca, Shmuel Pollen, and Travis Stephenson have agreed to settle the SEC’s charges.  Without admitting or denying the charges, they agreed to pay a combined total of $4.1 million in disgorgement and prejudgment interest.  Pollen has agreed to pay a $42,500 penalty.  The Commission did not assess a penalty on the other settling parties as a result of their cooperation.
The SEC’s investigation is being conducted by Jason Anthony, Michael Fuchs, and Deborah Maisel, and supervised by Jennifer Leete.  The SEC’s litigation against Atkinson, Passerino, Montano, Wright, and All In Publishing will be led by Kenneth Donnelly.  The SEC appreciates the assistance of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which filed parallel actions today.

Genesis Mining Trolls Warren Buffet with Billboard
New Post has been published on https://bbnn.io/2018/05/genesis-mining-trolls-warren-buffet-billboard/
Genesis Mining Trolls Warren Buffet with Billboard
Genesis Mining is trolling famed stock market investor and Brookshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett with a billboard directly outside his office in Omaha, Nebraska. Marco Krohn, co-founder of the crypto mining company posted a picture of the advertisement on his Twitter account. It reads:
“Warren: you said you were wrong about Google and Amazon. Maybe you’re wrong about Bitcoin? #BitcoinAwareness”
Buffet has gone on record many times in stating that Bitcoin is not a real investment and that his company will never own any.
Krohn and his team at Genesis Mining clearly don’t mind trying to go the extra mile to convince Buffet that he may want to change his tune. A large billboard located in Omaha costs up to $3,250 for a four-week run.
Not too shabby considering the brand exposure the mining company will get online and the possibility that the hashtag #BitcoinAwareness is d making the online rounds with the global crypto community.
Big Money Coming Around
JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon famously once said that he would fire any employee that was found to be trading bitcoin and went on to say that he considers it to be fraudulent. The bank has recently pivoted 180 degrees naming 29-year-old Oliver Harris as the head of the team that’s being created to organize a formal crypto-focused strategy.
Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban still considers bitcoin to be useless. At the same time, he’s hedging his bets, holding an investment in e-sports betting coin Unikrn.
Of course, anybody following the crypto space for a long time knows that the industry has seen its share of converts. Venture capitalists Tim Draper famously purchased 30,000 Bitcoins at a price of $600 US back in 2014.
Wall Street investor Michael Novogartz also has a large stake in bitcoin and recently stated that every investor should have at least one to 2% of their portfolio invested in cryptocurrency. He’s also the founder of the first ever digital currency Index fund.
Will The Oracle Ever Drink The Crypto Tea?
Buffett will forever be known as the Oracle from Omaha, but will he ever be known as the richest investor in the world turning bullish on digital currency? It’s likely that only mass adoption on a much larger scale will ever make him reconsider his position.
Nobody should be surprised given Buffet’s investment track record and his estimated net worth at $84.7 billion as of the time of this writing.
With his level of wealth and influence in the investment community, Genesis Mining may have to spend a few more thousand dollars on advertising to really get Buffett’s attention.

My calligraphy obsession began when the hand-lettered wedding signs made their way on Pinterest.  I started following a few handlettering accounts on instagram and bought some of the products they recommended.
So I decided for today’s blog post I would share some of the items I created for my wedding and that were photographed by the AMAZING Steve Hronek (Columbus based wedding photographer). If..WHEN.. you head over to his website check out my ALL TIME FAVORITE photo taken at our wedding on the homepage.
When planning our wedding, the rustic theme was huge.  I personally didn’t love the idea of a rustic theme.. My older sister had a beautiful wedding with a rustic theme and there was no way I could even attempt to recreate it.  I decided I wanted something different and unique to me and Kenny.  While I wouldn’t say I had a general theme to the wedding there was a lot of classic and vintage elements throughout our venue.  I think you’ll see what I mean when you see some pictures.
We were married at Brookshire in Delaware, Ohio.  We visited the venue when we were home for Christmas and I loved it.  The most appealing aspect of Brookshire was the fact that they had so much to offer so we weren’t going all over Ohio for wedding services.  They had a ‘stress-free wedding day’ guarantee which was exactly what we needed.  Since we were living in Anchorage at the time we didn’t have the luxury of searching for what we would need for the wedding.  Brookshire allowed us to personalize every single detail via email or phone call which was a lifesaver being so far away.  I was lucky enough to be home for the entire month of July to nail down final details which is unheard of considering most services require you to plan 4-6 months out.  Brookshire truly saved the day.  Thinking back on our wedding I never think ‘I wish we had done that’ or ‘I wish we had this’.  Brookshire did not disappoint and really delivered a flawless wedding day.
Moving on to the calligraphy pieces I created for our wedding.  Looking back.. whew.. there was a lot of room for improvement with these signs.  However, considering I had only been practicing for a couple of months I think they turned out pretty good.  🙂 I think if I were given a redo they could obviously be better but I don’t think i’d take it.  Our day was perfect and I love that I did the signs myself.  It made my wedding seem so personal to be able to create a lot of the signs I did.
The first sign was our ‘Welcome to our Wedding’ sign.  I found the inspiration for my sign here.  I wouldn’t say gold was a huge color for our wedding but it did go beautifully with the aesthetic of Brookshire. I found both of the mirrors below at a local thrift store and I updated the gold by taping the mirror and adding a fresh coat of gold spray paint.  I chose a matte finish because I thought if it was shiny it would look gaudy.

A few clients have asked for wedding signs and have actually used the welcome mirror a couple times.  I love that it can be used in different seasons and with different themes.
Seating Chart
Our seating chart was probably my all time favorite item that I made for our wedding.  I’m a big fan of watercolor and wanted to incorporate it somehow!  I will admit that i’m not the best at large scale signs/designs.  I feel like my lettering is at it’s best on the smaller projects. I decided to list everyone alphabetically instead of listing them by table so that it was easier to find your name.  This also made it so I could manipulate the number of cards I had to make.  I waited to make this until the week before our wedding to make sure we had all of our RSVP’s.  My mom is a lover of antiques and had this beautiful window that was perfect for the tables.
Our Tablescape/Favors
Tablescape – I purchased these gorgeous table number wood cutouts from Oriental Trading.  I think they looked really elegant with our flowers.  I decided on white flowers and a lot of greenery all around.   To share our wedding hashtag I found these square cards at Barnes and Noble and used tombow markers and micron pens for the lettering.  Then I used wine corks from Michaels (purchased here) and glued them together so the sign stood up.
Favors – My family is full of Pennsylvania natives.  The tradition at every wedding is to have a cookie table.  I decided that the cookies at the cookie table would be our favors (because who doesn’t love cookies).  I purchased adorable butcher paper bags here and purchased custom stickers to seal the bag.  Then I designed a cute little card to include with them for each favor bag.
I wanted pictures and a sign to honor those that couldn’t be with us, my mom had this window picture frame that was perfect.  I use a white paint marker which came off easily with a credit card after our wedding.
Finally, I was inspired by these aisle signs found on Pinterest and wanted to make my own.  My dad is a saint and cut all of the wood pieces then I used a dark stain and a paint marker for the lettering.
Looking back at my signs now.. yes I have a few questions like ‘Micah.. have you ever heard of a ruler?’ or ‘did you plan it out before you started?’.  Even though they aren’t perfect i’m still a pretty big fan of the final look and i’ve actually kept the aisle signs and the ‘program’ because I can’t part with it.
Thanks for reading!
