Disney was so. Prepared, and yet with the perfect storm of Pixar, DreamWorks and Shrek, several adult action films this one just got buried.

If they could have kept the TV series instead of canning it and stitching it up into a made for TV movie, then maybe it could have survived. Maybe instead of the Nemo submarine overlay we could have gotten the original plan to overlay Atlantis for it.

Because. We had it. Diverse cast with cool art style, a mission statement to explore and respect other cultures, an alternate history RIPE for the epistolary format and nerd references! What's not to love?

Look if they are looking to blow another 20 million dollars... Atlantis the lost empire live action? They tried SO hard 20 years ago with the constructed language, the set design, the steampunk equipment, the wild temporary promotions...just. do it again. Fit the lava whales in there, the "realistic vikings" Mulan 2020 cut the songs. The Team Atlantis motto was "less songs, more explosions". If nothing else we will still be able to say Phil LaMarr is a national treasure.

I actually haven’t seen Atlantis the lost empire, but I agree that it’s the one movie in Disneys catalogue that would benefit most from a remake
