Thinking about the original Miriam robots that existed before the Zero Dawn ones and what they might look like.
GAIA uses mostly vertebrate animals as inspiration for her robots, which makes sense, since they need to traverse rough terrain from ruined human infrastructure and wilderness… having hooves and legs instead of treads would probably help with that.
And we know the Chariot Line has an arthropod/cephalopod kind of theme… scorpions, cuttlefish/squids and… crabs? Are the Khopesh units crabs?
Anyway, I feel like that leaves three kind of unique tacks for Elisabet’s original designs…
1) Plantlike bots
2) Insectiod bots
3) Mythical creature based bots
They’re all kinda cool possibilities… but I kinda like Option 2 myself.
Forester drones that look like giant digger wasps, buzzing up to the tops of trees to check health and then digging holes and depositing new seeds via their “stinger.”
Winnow drones that are like the big toe-biter bugs, mandibles spread wide to catch microplastics and filter them from the water.
Lantern drones that look like dragonflies, collecting radiation in swoops and then pausing to brush their forearms over their faces, igniting internal reactions that neutralize the danger.
Open source schematics for a giant rhinoceros beetle field-prowler whose specialized “horn” leaves the roots of native plants alone while making a row for a farmer riding on its “shell” to plant in.
Just… ROBOT BUGS HELPING THE PLANET.

Horizontober Day 6: Green
Well, Elisabet, I made it here—to the West. California. You lived here for a while, I think.
I wish you could see it now, Elisabet, see how green it is here. How beautiful your world is. I’ve been finding your Vista Points on my way here. The environmental reclamation ones Miriam did. Seeing your impact, even before Zero Dawn, it’s…a lot to live up to.
But I’m out here doing reclamation work, too. Once we find Demeter, GAIA will have enough processing power to take on HEPHAESTUS. We’ll fix the biosphere.
Anyway…enough talk. Time to get to work.

I hope the plotline in DA: Absolution crops up in Veilguard. Devs did say the world keeps moving regardless of Rook/the player so that could be a plotline in Tevinter the same way The Masked Empire was relevant to Inquisition, though not mandatory reading material. Really curious as to what precisely Meredith wants to do. Ressurect all the dead Templars in Tevinter and turn them red and then overthrow??? I am curious 👀
#le whiny text post#I also just like rewatching Absolution#it really has such a gorgeous display of what the world of Thedas looks like#esp the blood magic#idk if I can blame technological limitations for how A Lot and Not Enough blood magic looked like in the games?#maybe it was just the animation where like massive splashes of blood would just manifest but the model would be ok#whereas cuts and corpses and the amount of blood really stays when only animated????#whenever Rezaren uses blood magic it looks very larger than life and dangerous and important#which can also just be the power of storyboarding#and the general control of hand drawn blood vs splash animations stuck in????#also if the plotline crops up in the game how will that affect the Shadow Dragons??? is my best and only friend Mr. Dorian of House Pavus#gonna crop up in that storyline?? will it shift Tevinter??? I need to know#ALSO late edit but it occurred to me that Tassia said that a previous Divine interred the bodies of slaves within that summer palace#so like is that a common thing in Tevinter in which case how bad would it be if Meredith used the cirrculum yo ressurect all the dead under#her control??? will they then slaughter Tevinter citizens to power it bc for just Neb Rezaren also needed a huge chunk of dragon blood#but then also evidently he needed Miriam's blood to bring back Neb so like you ned blood relatives....?????#I am curious. I am most curious. I really hope this storyline crops up in some capacity.#also wouldn't be against meeting Absolution's cast in the game#RIP Fairbanks tho. he was so cool 🥲🥲🥲#actually just finished up helping him in my Inquisition replay 🥲🥲

elisabet sobeck + natal chart
Elisabet Sobeck is another character in the Horizon games with an actual date of birth: March 11th, 2020. I'm going to avoid comparisons to Aloy, but I will say this: they're working towards the same goal, but both women's journeys will ultimately differ from each other. Elisbet's chart is undoubtedly the chart of a very lonely but very determined person.
Even though Elisabet has a 10th house stellium like Aloy does, hers is much more grim and heavy, with Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter, and Mars all conjunct each other. Speaking of this stellium, in real life, her birth date wasn't too long ago. This is when the pandemic started, and many astrologers believe this stellium in Capricorn was what kicked it off, as there have been similar stelliums associated with past pandemics (such as the 1918 flu). So, Elisabet had to deal with a different kind of "pandemic"...the Faro plague.
Even before the Faro plague became her career-defining moment, her career was not without conflict. Working at Faro Automated Solutions under Ted Faro, a man she often butted heads with, was certainly harrowing enough. Their constant disagreements led to Elisbet leaving FAS and starting her own company, Miriam Technologies. Of course, Ted didn't take kindly to this and apparently filed many lawsuits against her.
Many characters have commented on how hard it was to know Elisabet on a personal level. I believe her Sun/Neptune conjunction in Pisces in the 12th house is the main contributer to this. The 12th house is a very elusive house, and with Neptune there, it's no wonder not many people felt they didn't know her too well. Adding to this is her Moon in Libra in the 7th house squaring her 10th house stellium. Elisabet almost always put her work (10th house) first, while relationships (7th house) were always put on the back burner.
Of course, this is not to say she didn't care about people: quite the opposite. With Mercury in Aquarius in the 11th house (the house of communities and groups of people), she was very interested in using techonology to reverse the environmental damage of her time. This is also quite evident with her Uranus/Venus conjunction in Taurus, an earth sign that is often associated with nature and the environment, and Uranus signifying technology and innovation.
And finally, there is another side to her Sun/Neptune conjunction in the 12th house. Pisces traditonally rules the 12th house, and is often associated with selflessness and self-sacrifice. While it doesn't always have to signify sacrificing one's own life for other people, this is what Elisabet ended up having to do.

"The magnitude of self-descriptors as devised by North American trans men or favourably assigned to trans men by other transgender communities implies a drive for meaningful self-expression that emanates from substantive agency, even if this agency is conditioned, interpreted and curtailed by existing cultural semiotics. In many cases, purposeful self-description lends itself heterogeneously yet effectively to self-empowerment and self-realisation. At the same time, the astounding variety of these appellations and their meanings lay bare the instability, fuidity and evolution of becoming a trans man. A signifcant self-designated name for one trans man ‘may be another’s Gender Trash’. It could hold signifcance only for a specifc period of time before other more compelling labels emerge and take its place. Contrastingly, Malaysian trans men may not necessarily possess the cultural capital, legal and political resources, or religious liberty to engage in similarly diverse pursuits of self-description.
Miriam J. Abelson’s recent study unearths the negotiations of trans men with dominant manifestations of American masculinities such as ‘hypermasculine men, regular guys, progressive men, and faggy men’ as conditioned by issues of ethnicity, class and geographical space. Malaysian trans men also encounter such negotiations, although issues of ethnicity, class and space often do not seem to be at theforefront of their consciousness in such deliberations. Instead, issues of identity, social engagement, dysphoria, transitioning and religion appear to take centre stage in their subjectivities. Admittedly, any denotation of what it means to be a man in Malaysia—or any part of the world—is always a precarious project, given that each man is socialised into, and consequently self-polices and self-defines ‘man’ in accordance with the specifcities of his lived realities. Yet it is possible to locate the political, sociocultural and religious rhetoric that determines and shapes notions of ‘manness’, ‘manhood’, ‘manliness’, ‘maleness’ and ‘masculinity’.
Malaysian studies on men indicate that male masculinities are conditioned by class, ethnic and religious factors. For instance, traits such as crudeness, boisterousness, physical strength and disputatiousness among Malaysian Chinese male truck drivers stand in contrast with the dignity, authority and self-restraint among male truck owners. Moreover, machines fgure largely in cultural interpretations of a technology-driven masculinity among Malaysian Chinese working-class men. Financial stability, job security, good physical health, sexual virility and male-designated genitalia are prized as ‘manly’ traits. Patriarchal practices also serve to corroborate both ethnic, sociocultural and Malay-Muslim dictates of masculinity. Same-sex attractions between men—often erroneously ascribed to trans women—is unanimously condemned as illicit in largely conservative Malaysia, mostly due to the convergence of ethnic (read Malay-Muslim), Islamic and nationalistic ideologies. There is also an uncontested and steadfast belief that masculinity is superior to femininity in Malaysia. These contributory elements of masculinity impact heavily on formations of gender identity among trans men."

More than 100 dolphins found dead in Brazilian Amazon as water temperatures soar
Tumblr media
More than 100 dolphins have died in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest in the past week as the region grapples with a severe drought, and many more could die soon if water temperatures remain high, experts say.
The Mamiraua Institute, a research group of Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, said two more dead dolphins were found Monday in the region around Tefe Lake, which is key for mammals and fish in the area. Video provided by the institute showed vultures picking at the dolphin carcasses beached on the lakeside. Thousands of fish have also died, local media reported.
Experts believe high water temperatures are the most likely cause of the deaths in the lakes in the region. Temperatures since last week have exceeded 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Tefe Lake region.
The Brazilian government's Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation, which manages conservation areas, said last week it had sent teams of veterinarians and aquatic mammal experts to investigate the deaths.
There had been some 1,400 river dolphins in Tefe Lake, said Miriam Marmontel, a researcher from the Mamiraua Institute.
"In one week we have already lost around 120 animals between the two of them, which could represent 5% to 10% of the population," said Marmontel.

From above, two pods boomed as they ripped the upper stratosphere of Copper-9. Light from the rockets, making the clouds glow hot blue and electrifying the unstable atmosphere. As the pods split the cloud cover in their descent, lightning flickered and cracked, striking one of the pods. The surge in power fried the automatic navigation systems, and the craft hurtled off course towards Camp 98.7. Crashing down, it left a trail of destruction and fire in its wake, setting the forest ablaze and leaving a gouge in the ground that ran for several hundred yards before the craft eventually came to a halt. The pod was unlike anything they had ever seen, complex ivory plating with intricate gold designs weaving throughout, the exposed areas revealing an almost muscular conglomeration of black wires that pulsed blue light towards the center of the craft. Upon the side were several logos, of which one V would recognize as her own parent company logo of JCJenson. The others involved were Faro Automated Solutions Inc, Far Zenith Corp, and Miriam Technologies.... As the two dissasembly drones would draw close, the pod let off a shrill tone and an automated warning. "WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! PROXIMITY SENSORS ACTIVE, SHIP IS STABILIZING, DO NOT APPROACH THE STASIS POD UNTIL INSTRUCTED OR RISK MALFUNCTION. PLEASE ENJOY OUR MESSAGE TO THE VALUED CUSTOMER ABOUT YOUR NEW GALAXTIC PAL WHILE YOU WAIT- Uh, is this thing on? This is testing log number uhhh... I've lost count... of project Gemini modelSD: B1-7A PIN: #LK-101, "Beta" or just B, I dont care... Okay... The pod is cooling down right now, but once it's stable, it should scan the environment and inhabitants around it so it can best modify itself to the environment and fit in, I know it might be odd but it will try to copy someone it sees but dont worry, there is a customization setting in the pod if you wish to change her appearance, not that ot will matter uh... Look, this is our last shot. What with earth gone and everything. I've installed various subfunction protocols into two sister drones. The other should be nearby. This one posseses: Minerva, Hephestus, Apollo, and Hades. The robot will tell you what those do, but uhm... She's designed to learn and adapt just as her sister unit A7-04 is, but specifically, she's much more attuned to it. Her sister unit is designed for combat and initial defense of this ones operations of study, terraforming and revitalizing. Make no mistake, though. B isn't defenseless. She is equipped with a highly advanced natite repair and re assimilation device and can construct weapons on her arms of which she knows two by default, but can learn more. The Specter Gauntlet High Energy plasma multitool cannon and the Specter Reaver blade arm. If there was any error during transport, I'd expect something to function incorrectly, and I can't help you. If the unit is severely damaged, return it to the pod for nanitic revitalization procedures to initiate a full system reboot and restore... I think that's it... good luck."
V watched the pod with a calculating gaze, one of her hands turned into a long blade and held out in front of J. They took in the words spoken to her, and their eyes narrowed. She didn't care what this was, they just didn't want it near J.
She remained at the ready, protective urge pulling at her every wire.
