Does anyone want a dog?
(Missouri and nearby states)
Please, I've never asked for anything of mine to be reblogged but please reblog this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: Bed photo is an older photo. She is bigger now.
I have a lab pit mix dog that needs to be rehomed. I've had her for a couple months trying to find a home after her last home had to get rid of her last minute and I've had zero luck. This is a last ditch effort before I start calling shelters in nearby states
I cannot keep her. My apartment is too small and she needs lots of stimulation because she is only a year old or so.
I can help transport her. She is not fixed and comes with a kennel, food bowls, food, a muzzle and metal leash and harness. (Tbh harness does not fit well, but she is trained to come back on command)
She has one issue: She chews the shit out of stuff.
But, she also is not in the beat environment for her right now and is muzzle trained, which helps a lot. Her muzzle allows her to eat and drink and talk so it'll help during training but is not a permanent solution.
She is not a dog for someone who has never had a dog before. She either needs someone who has the time to train her well, or someone with other big dogs she can learn from as she is very smart. She would also do well with somewhere with a good yard or a farm area. She is potty trained.
She is incredibly sweet and smart. She just needs a good home. If you have any interest, please dm me.
Also, please note she is free but I will require a note from your current vet saying you've taken good care of past pets to their knowledge. Don't be scared off by this please, it's to prevent her from becoming a fighting dog and going to someone with little animal experience. The note should have a number to the office and a letterhead preferably.
Thank you.

Going into our trip, we didn’t wanna rush the adoption of a dog and take our time with it. We got to Animal Humane Society's Woodbury location and looked through all the kennels. It was really hard seeing all those dogs with no homes. I came across one dog that caught my attention. Her kennel sheet read Bonnie Blue. Before visiting with her, I went around one last time, but my heart kept going back to her. Something about her was special: so happy and excited to see everybody. I went and took her into a visiting room and instantly knew she was the one. Hearing her backstory was one of the hardest parts and it made my heart sink. She had emergency surgery from a gun shot wound to the mouth, and was transported from Missouri to be spayed and adopted out in Minnesota. I thought, how could somebody be completely heartless to hurt her, let alone any animal. At this point, I was speechless beyond words with information about her health and treatment as well was told she will forever have shrapnel in her mouth that was unremovable and would always be there.
Getting her home was the best feeling in the world, knowing she would never experience uncertainty again. The first week was spent in the living room getting her comfortable with me and getting to know her personality. It was challenging. I thought a dog with abandonment issues and trauma, what have I got myself into? Anytime I walked away she would whine and fuss. After 2 weeks, Luna met Gigi, our current 6-year-old dog. They weren’t fond of each other in the beginning, but they became friends. After a month, when Luna was healthy, I started introducing walks to her. The first walk was confusing for her because she thought I was dumping her somewhere, so she refused to keep walking forward. After a week, she started to really enjoy walks and then started her training. At this point, I found out how high energy she was, amazingly smart, and willing to learn and work for food and love. We started with basic obedience training and moved to service dog training. At the time I got Luna, my mental health hit a complete decline, and I wasn’t doing good and considered a service dog. I started this training with Luna and quickly opened a whole new job she absolutely loved. I enjoyed seeing her blossom from a scared shelter dog to a confident and level headed dog. She has been the most amazing thing this past year even though it has had its highs and lows, and I would not change it for the world.

SMART BOMB
The Completely Unnecessary News Analysis
By Christopher Smart

TRUMP EATS DOG. FOR REAL?
Hey Wilson, did you see the thing on the web that Donald Trump eats dog. People are talking about it. Some heard he has a kennel at Mar-A-Lago and every once in a while he gets a hankerin' for dog and sends his chef out with a meat clever. Insiders say he still loves Big Macs. (They stick to the wall better.) There are any number of good recipes for dog. One, said to be Trump's favorite, is dog Kibbeh made with ground dog (preferably retriever or poodle), cracked wheat and onions. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and allspice to taste. Other favorites include roast leg of dog; grilled dog chops; and dog tacos. (Find more delicious dog recipes at donaldjtrump.com) Of course, dog is a favorite in China, South Korea (no dogs in North Korea, they've already been eaten), the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Interestingly, dog is not on menus in Haiti, despite comments by Trump in his Sept. 10 debate with Kamala Harris. The former president said pets are disappearing in Springfield, Ohio. The Haitian immigrants “are eating the dogs, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of people...” Of course when Trump eats dog he's not eating someone's pet. His people get them from the rescue shelter. Bon appétit!
TOP TEN MISPERCEPTIONS BY THE UTAH LEGISLATURE
1 – Voters are just plain stupid
2 – Judges are just plain insipid
3 – Secret government is the best government
4 – Trump won the debate — except for that little pets-on-a-plate thing
5 – Our air is as pure as we are
6 – More freeways means less traffic congestion
7 – Books teach kids to be perverts
8 – We manage lands better than the feds who insist on regulations
9 – Amendment D is good voters — ignorance is bliss
10 – The Great Salt Lake doesn't need our help — God has it covered
BOMB THREATS: AS AMERICAN AS APPLE PIE
Bowling used to be one of America's favorite pastimes, but new data reveals that has been overtaken by folks who rather than rolling for strikes and spares are now calling in bomb threats. The new hobby is just exploding — no pun intended. You remember back in the crazy days when once in a blue moon some cowardly sonofabitch would call in a bomb threat. Well now right wing-bomb threats are like bugs on stink. Death threats are now as much a part of America as bad drivers, long lines and political polls. Remember Christine Blasey Ford who blew the whistle on Brett Kavanaugh at his supreme court confirmation hearing. She got so many threats that she had to move three times, get plastic surgery and have her fingertips removed. Lucky for her she wasn't caught making shish kabob with her neighbor's chihuahua. Enter J.D. Vance and his felonious daddy Donald Trump. Faster than you can say, pass the ketchup, half of the residents of Springfield, Ohio got bomb threats and they weren't all immigrants. This after the GOP presidential ticket insisted that Haitians were chowing down on everyone's pets. Schools were evacuated, college classes canceled, medical facilities shut down. Bomb threats came in to hospitals, City Hall and various government agencies. Trump and Vance's reply: Not sorry.
Post script — That's going to do it for another frightening week here at Smart Bomb where we keep track of scary stuff so you don't have nightmares. Believe it or not the world keeps spinning despite the presidential race. Here are some headlines to prove it:
Missouri water lily holds 142 pounds of sandbags, wins worldwide contest
27-year-old man sentence after enrolling in high school to prey on teens
Mayflies are sending warnings about urban wildfires
A geomagnetic storm is headed to Earth
Even after having their tubes tied, some women get pregnant
Young people worldwide are drinking more sugary beverages
Brazilian politician upends debate by hitting opponent with chair
Sterilizations among women increased after Roe was overturned
Tito Jackson, Jackson 5 singer and guitarist, dies at 70
Blood Red Is the new Barbie Pink
As you know Wilson, here at Smart Bomb we've eaten our share of crow. And we've seen it rain cats and dogs — but we've never eaten any of them. You'd have to be a real dog to spread a mean-ass lie about people eating their neighbor's pets. Wilson, you and they guys in the band must have a little something for those great patriots, Messrs. Trump and Vance:
You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Cryin' all the time You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Cryin' all the time Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine When they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie When they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie You ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Cryin' all the time You ain't nothin' but a hound dog Cryin' all the time Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine When they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie When they said you was high-classed Well, that was just a lie Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit And you ain't no friend of mine

Arkansas Puppy Store Sourcing, What to know and What to do.
Post: December 09, 2022

Arkansas Puppy Store Sourcing
——————————————————————————————-
“We don’t buy from puppy mills.”
“All of our puppies come from small, local breeders.”
“We visit every breeder we buy from.”
We have all heard these sentences come from the mouths of pet store owners and their employees. They paint this beautiful picture of puppies running by a pond and parents frolicking in the fresh, green grass… Sadly, 99% of the time that is false. The pet store owners know it, the employees might know it- but the customer is completely in the dark.
This is why we are here.
Tumblr media
BailingOutBenji a small nonprofit that started in Iowa and now has volunteer teams all over the country who are dedicated to raising awareness about the puppy mill industry.
Volunteers from Bailing Out Benji devote their free time to researching puppy mills to create puppy mill maps for the worst states, as well as raise awareness about notorious pet stores and breeding operations with huge violations. This includes obtaining CVI data (Certificates of Veterinary Inspections) and making those reports public. To learn more about the puppy mills in your location, you can also go to the interactive website and search engine.
NOTE:
-Before an animal is transported out of state, a veterinarian, accredited by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), must examine the animal for signs of “infectious, contagious or communicable disease” and, if no disease is found, sign the certificate for approval to transport.
This information was obtained by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. We are currently waiting on additional FOIA requests to help make our research more complete.
All of the breeders listed as associated with the pet stores sold puppies or kittens to them in the years 2020 through 2022.
————————————————
These records requests cost money to obtain. If you would like to support our research, you can make a one time donation or to sign up to be a sustaining supporter to allow us to continue our various programs that expose the puppy mill industry, click the donate button below.

Experience Alaska's Living Cultures
From dog sledding to meeting local artisans, there are countless ways to experience Alaska’s diverse cultures year-round.
— By Christina Nuñez
Tumblr media
Experience Alaska's living cultures! Embark on an overland journey like no other, traveling over Alaska's terrain via dog sled. Dog sledding, or mushing, has a long history in Alaska: Originating as transportation for Alaska Native cultures, it went on to become the official state sport in 1972. Throughout the state, visitors can join a range of dog sled tours, from jaunts lasting a couple of hours to multiday backcountry camping excursions. In the summer, rides typically take place on wheeled carts, but if you’re craving the sledding experience, you can helicopter to a glacier and glide over snow and ice behind a team of dogs under the midnight sun.
In addition to tours, kennels offer demonstrations that reveal how sled dogs and their mushers prepare for long-distance trips. Rangers at Denali National Park and Preserve—the only national park with a kennel of sled dogs—hold daily demos from May to September. Depending on the time of year, you might also be able to catch a sled dog race: The legendary Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race from Willow to Nome has a ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage every March, and the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race in February runs between Fairbanks and Whitehorse. Learn about Alaska's aviation history! Thousands of Alaskans live in remote communities without road access. For many of these communities, small aircraft have long been a critical way to get supplies. Back when Alaska Airlines began in the 1930s, flights weren't scheduled—they took off when the plane was full. Today, traveling by bush plane or seaplane is an integral part of Alaskan culture.
The state's pioneering history of flight is on display at the Alaska Aviation Museum, located on the world's largest seaplane base, Anchorage's Lake Hood. Here, you'll be able to see more than 25 vintage aircraft, watch planes being restored, and get a pilot's-eye view in a full-immersion flight simulator. If you're eager to get off the ground, check out one of the state's many flightseeing and helicopter tours. Whether you take a short flight or a full-day trip, flightseeing is a great way to see some of Alaska's less-visited treasures, such as Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Tour Sitka National Historical Park! Located on Baranof Island in southeast Alaska, Sitka National Historical Park's natural beauty is punctuated by its signature feature: a collection of totem poles from the Tlingit and Haida people. They sit on ancestral land of the Tlingit Kiks.ádi clan, which is also the site of an 1804 battle between the clan and Russian invaders who eventually wrested control of Sitka. Americans acquired Alaska from Russia in 1867.
Nearly 40 years later, Tlingit and Haida tribes donated 15 totem poles to be exhibited at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis, Missouri. Most—but not all—made it back to Alaska. Today, visitors to the park can explore the mile-long Totem Trail, with its 18 Tlingit and Haida totems. A self-guided walking tour of the trail offers a window into the rich history of these carvings and the living cultures they represent. Local artisans such as Tlingit carver Tommy Joseph are also on-site throughout the week working on various totem carving projects and available to answer questions about their craft. PATRICK J. ENDRES, GETTY IMAGES

Explore Ketchikan on a local-led tour! Once the site of a Tlingit summer fish camp, Ketchikan lies at the southern end of the Inside Passage and is the first port of call for ships heading north, earning it the nickname “Alaska’s First City.” Distinguished by its colorful waterfront buildings and the fact that it boasts the largest number of standing totem poles in the world, Ketchikan draws fishing buffs, nature lovers, and those wanting to experience Alaska Native culture and art. You'll find collections of totems at the Totem Heritage Center, Totem Bight State Historical Park, Saxman Totem Park, and Cape Fox Lodge, as well as dotted throughout downtown Ketchikan.
Learn about Ketchikan's remarkable history and art on a local-led walking tour, such as Where the Eagle Walks run by Tlingit Elder Joe Williams, Jr. With your guide, you might wander the pedestrian boardwalk on Creek Street, learn about the salmon that migrate through the area's waters, or watch Tlingit totem carvers at work in nearby Saxman Village. BARCOS, ALAMY
Tumblr media
Visit Hoonah and Icy Strait Point! Over a century ago, Icy Strait Point was the site of a salmon cannery. Today, the striking red building is a "port for adventure" owned and operated by a local Alaska Native corporation, Huna Totem. Located about 30 miles west of Juneau on Chichagof Island, Icy Strait Point is a prime attraction in the town of Hoonah, Alaska’s largest Tlingit village. The restored cannery, which opened in 2004, is now home to a museum and 1930s cannery line display.
After soaking in the area's history, you can tour Hoonah’s many shops and restaurants, explore the surrounding wilderness, and embark on local tours. If you're a thrill-seeker, zoom down from the peak at Hoonah Mountain on the the state's longest zip line. For a more relaxed adventure, head to the Yaakw Kahidi Cultural Center to learn about Tlingit customs and traditions such as hand-carving dugout canoes. NAUM CHAYER, ALAMY
Tumblr media
Experience wildlife, history, and culture on Kodiak Island! The second largest island in the United States is full of opportunities to spot wildlife, particularly bears and whales. Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1941, is home to 3,500 Kodiak brown bears, which visitors can view from a safe distance on guided tours available through local lodges and camps. The Kodiak Brown Bear Center & Lodge, owned by the Alutiiq people, is one of several sightseeing operators located in the refuge. Offshore, local charter boats will take you whale watching, though you may also be able to see them from atop cliffs or on beaches.
In downtown Kodiak, check out the Alutiiq Museum. The museum features exhibits on local archaeology as well as the culture and art of the Alutiiq/Sugpiaq people, who have lived in Alaska's southcentral and southwest coastal areas for over 7,500 years. A short walk away you'll find the Kodiak History Museum. Its many stories begin with the building itself: Built in 1808, it was at various points a private home, event space, and boarding house. Tumblr media
Discover Alaska's locally sourced food culture! The idea of "eating local," or sourcing food close to home, takes on a new dimension in Alaska. Home to over 12,000 rivers, three million lakes larger than five acres, and over 46,000 miles of shoreline, Alaska has an unparalleled bounty of fresh seafood. Some of the many species that inhabit Alaska waters include crab, shrimp, Pacific halibut, and salmon.
Don’t miss the chance to try salmon from an Alaska smokehouse, where filets are soaked in brine, hung out to dry, and smoked for hours over a wood fire. Historically, smokehouses indicated clan ownership of a river during the summer fishing season and are a longstanding way that Alaska Native cultures have preserved salmon. Restaurants like Duck Point Smokehouse in the Tlingit village of Hoonah allow visitors to indulge in this culinary tradition.
Other locally sourced products to keep an eye out for include birch syrup and meats such as elk, bison, and reindeer. Take a culinary tour or cooking class to sample and learn more about these foods. Also be sure to visit some of the state's many craft breweries, wineries, and distilleries. JMP TRAVELER, ADOBE
Tumblr media
Visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center! Alaska is home to over 229 federally recognized tribes—and one of the best ways to learn about Alaska’s diverse living cultures is at the Alaska Native Heritage Center (ANHC) on Dena’ina lands in Anchorage. A unanimous vote of the Alaska Federation of Natives in 1987 kicked off the effort to build the center, which opened in 1999 and has welcomed visitors since. In 2021, the Ford Foundation recognized the ANHC as one of America’s Cultural Treasures.
The center includes six life-size villages, which offer a window into traditional ways of life for Alaska’s Iñupiat, St. Lawrence Island Yupik, Athabascan, Eyak, Haida, Tsimshian, Tlingit, Unangax̂, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq, Yup’ik, and Cup’ik peoples. Enjoy a self-guided tour of the villages’ dwellings and artifacts, but be sure to leave time to attend one or more of the many events at the center’s main complex, the Gathering Place. On any given day, you might be able to catch the astounding athletics of Alaska Native games, watch a traditional dance performance, learn words and phrases from one of Alaska’s 300 dialects, share teatime with an Elder, or join a guided tour of the exhibits at the Hall of Cultures. KILIII YUYAN
Tumblr media
Visit Utqiaġvik, the northernmost U.S. town! Utqiaġvik is a town of great beauty and great extremes. In U.S. territory, it's as far north as you can get. From May 12 to August 2, the sun never sets. And from November 18 to January 23, darkness reigns 24 hours a day. Even in summer, a trip to the beach demands fortitude if you plan to go near the water, since the frigid Arctic Ocean waters hover in the low 30s Fahrenheit.
Drawn by the migration of Arctic bowhead whales, humans have inhabited Utqiaġvik for at least a millennium, with evidence of former residents going back as far as 1,500 years. Now one of the largest Iñupiat settlements in Alaska, Utqiaġvik was known as Barrow until 2016, when residents voted to revert back to the town's traditional name.
While you're visiting "the rooftop of the world," don't miss the Iñupiat Heritage Center, which features exhibits, a library, and events and demonstrations led by locals. Other spots to see include the "Gateway to the Arctic," a massive whalebone arch on the beach near the Cape Smythe Whaling and Trading Station that commemorates the town’s relationship to whaling, and the Birnirk National Historic Landmark archaeological site, which marks evidence of habitation by the Birnirk culture from about 500 to 900 A.D. MICHELLE HOLIHAN, ADOBE
Tumblr media
Attend a festival or market! Year-round, Alaska hosts unforgettable events that offer a chance to experience regional customs, shop for locally made goods, and cheer on competitors in races and games. The Festival of Native Arts held each year in February or March is just one of many Alaska Native festivals and events. Since 1973, the festival has brought together artists, musicians, and storytellers at the University of Alaska Fairbanks to share workshops and performances.
Around the June solstice, Utqiaġvik holds the whaling festival of Nalukataq, a celebration that includes launching people into the air with a group-held blanket. "This cultural celebration is one of the best ways to experience the true meaning of sharing and really highlights the value system of the Iñupiat," writes Tara Sweeney, who grew up in Utqiaġvik. Other events include June's biennial Celebration festival in Juneau and the four-day World Eskimo-Indian Olympics, held in Fairbanks in July. VICKI BEAVER, ALAMY

How to Select a Boston Terrier Dog For Your Home?
Named after where the breed was created, Boston terriers are one of the most lively dog breeds with a loyal personality and a sturdy physique. Developed to be a fighting dog in Boston, Massachusetts, this breed has evolved into a great family companion over the years. It is not only smart that makes it easy to train, but Boston Terriers are also good with children. However, this breed is often carelessly bred, so before buying one, you should inspect and ensure you have a dog with a healthy constitution, friendly temperament, and good structure. This article further focuses on a few steps that might help you choose the right Boston terrier puppy.Boston terrier puppies being one of the most bought breeds of dogs, this article further focuses on some interesting facts about Boston terrier puppies you may not have known earlier.
1. You should always start by examining your pet's features carefully. There is a lot you can know about the dog just by understanding how they should, and how they actually look. You should see if the dog looks alert, energetic and friendly. This can tell you a lot about the personality of the dog in general. Apart from that, you should check to see if its body is dense and has a solid structure. Purebred Boston Terriers can easily be identified by checking the shape and size of their heads. A purebred will always have a short, wrinkle-free and flathead, whereas others would not. If all the points check out, lastly you should check his coat. It should be short, brindle, seal or black and white, if all of these criteria check out, it is a dog you should not miss out on. You can find purebred Boston Terrier Dogs for Sale almost anywhere in America, however, you should make sure to do the necessary checks.
2. Now that you know if the dog is a purebred, it's time to check the authenticity of your breeder. You start with checking if your breeder is a member of specialty, breed or the obedience club. This can be easily found from his credentials. Make sure to check his credentials very carefully to avoid any mistakes when it comes to the dog. You should also check with other buyers and references to ensure that your breed is not a puppy mill. A puppy mill is essentially a kennel where pups are solely bred for money without any consideration about their breed or health. On top of this, also ask your breeder about the vaccinations that have been done, or if the dog has any known health problems. Not only the pup but also ask about the parents of the pup, since sometimes the pup can retain their traits when it comes to health issues. Make sure you do your research before you find local Boston Terrier Dogs for Sale.
By checking on these certain points, you can be sure that the pup you are buying is purebred. Apart from that, Boston Terriers are known to be one of the friendliest dogs and are very good with kids. Having a companion for life cannot get better than this.Boston Terrier Puppyfor Sale - Planning to get a registered Boston Terrier Puppy? If a pet is lost, rabies tags also provide an excellent means of identifying your pet. All dogs are required to wear their rabies tags when off of the owner's property. Compliance with this law is monitored through the issuance of rabies tags for all dogs residing in the county. The State of Illinois requires that all dogs are vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian. Kendall County Animal Control is the county agency responsible for enforcement of the state statutes governing rabies control in domestic companion animals.

Jimbo aka Jimbob
Beagle |M| Shawnee Mission, KS
"Meet Jimbo or Jim bob. He is a 2-3 year old male beagle who was rescued from southern Missouri. We don't know much about Jimbo's history. He has spend several months at his foster's home being treated for heart worm. He is fully recovered and ready for his forever home. He was a little stand-offish, but still friendly, when he first came live with his fosters. His fosters parents believe he wasn't feeling well from his heart worm. Since his recovery, Jimbo is very personable and much more of a snuggler. In fact, it could be said that he is a champion snuggler.
Jimbo is a talker with a beagle bark. He loves to take walks. He does well around other dogs. He doesn't like being kenneled. We don't know how he is around small children or cats. He is housebroken. He is full beagle and will run off, following his nose if he gets off leash or escapes a fenced in yard. Ask his fosters how they know this. Jimbo spends his nights on a dog bed on the floor or on the couch."

I cannot say how the first 2 years of my dog's life went. All we know for certain is that when the investigators got there to help law enforcement execute the warrant for the removal of 200+ animals from a property -alive and dead, born and unborn- in rural Missouri, he was outside in a small, open-air crate covered in his own feces with no name provided by his owner.
After a 4 hour ride in a loud, unfamiliar trailer, he was covered in his own feces again and terrified; even snapping at the vet and techs that were there to triage him and the rest of the animals brought in.
Rescues like this take time before the animals can become adoptable. There's legal reasons, like disposition of the warrant, and there are practical reasons. Animals need to be vetted, their behavior looked at. But they get names. In accordance with our shelter tradition, animals are given names with a first letter that matches the first letter of the county they were taken from. My dog came from an S County. It's difficult to find 200+ unique S names. My dog, before he was my dog, was named Smokey-Joe.
He had kennel cough and a bad ear infection, so even after he was neutered, he had to spend more time at the shelter. I came across him while he was being taken out for a walk. He looked so unique and goofy, a brindle colored corgi and Shar pei mix... his head smaller than his neck, legs short and squat. It was love at first sight.
I had my now-husband come to the shelter to meet this dog and I think he fell in love too, at least a little bit. Thus, as soon as he was cleared medically, I signed the adoption papers and Smokey-Joe was now Frodo Waggins... a Hobbitses with short legs and hair feet.
And Hobbit he did, for 9 years. Second breakfast and elevensies... a couch dog with the occasional zoomies and a desire to sniff All The Things in his yard. Neurotic and basically untrainable at this point (or at least beyond my means, but I'm already crying so I will try to steer away from the What-Ifs and I-Could've-Done-Betters) The fiercest he's ever been was barking at the door when he's heard someone coming in he isn't expecting. He'd run away scared once they were in, but for a brief moment he was a tough boy defending his home.
Frodo had a rough start with his cat-sister Sophie. He was afraid of her for quite a long time and she was none-too-thrilled with him, but after years they became comfortable. Then my son was born and he was caught between the anxiety of a crying baby and the joy of dropped table scraps. Comfort and routine came again, a new house where he could run the fence with neighbor dogs and chase the occasional squirrel and stray cat back over his fence.
But he's started to deteriorate. His eyes are failing him, as well as his back legs. He sometimes has trouble finding his food, let alone eating it. He cries more and doesn't do the things he used to love. He forgets he's been outside and immediately asks to be let out again, where sometimes he just sits and sniffs the air.. He's long since stopped letting himself be groomed properly. He freezes in fear over a bath, but attempts to trim his nails have led to him snap and growl. His normal groomers won't see him any more because they don't want to stress him out. After growing pains and his crotchety behavior with our new cat Pugslet, they have become comfortable together while Frodo snaps at his cat-sister Sophie if she moves too close to him. His quality of life has deteriorated and we no longer reasonably have to means to maintain what he does have, let alone the means to improve.
Today is the day I take my beloved Frodo Waggins back to the shelter where I first met him. They will take him back to a vet I've worked with for 10 years and whom I trust and enjoy what fleeting company we share. She will administer a sedative to help him sleep, then another chemical that will stop his heart.
Shelter rules state that I cannot be back there when it happens. A part of me is sad and feels I'm shirking some duty I have to him, but a part of me is okay with this. We all grieve in different ways. And where I feel like it's my responsibility to be with him in those last moments, I know and trust the people he will be surrounded by. He knows them too. I know he'll be anxious either way, but I feel there's very little my presence would do to improve the situation. It would only make things harder for me.
This morning he is eating peanut butter flavored Frosty Paws and a slice of garlicky cheese pizza he begged off me for breakfast. He's been in and out of the backyard 3 times already in 2 hours. And I am crying.
I hate that I have to make this choice. I hate that the choice means he is no longer with us. I hate that I can't fix things for him. A part of me fears it's too soon. I'm doing him a disservice. But part of me knows he's deteriorated this much, and he'll only continue to get worse. I tell myself a little too early is better than too late. He doesn't deserve to suffer, and my family and I don't deserve to watch him suffer just because the decision is hard.
The house will be quieter this evening without his constant whining to be let outside or up on the couch or begging for food while we eat dinner. I could have done better by him. I did the best I could. I loved him for 9 years and I'll still love him until it's my time too.
There will be a funny shaped hole in my heart that will never entirely be filled. But I will try to remind myself that my dear Frodo Waggins will no longer be in pain, will no longer be scared every thunderstorm or loud car driving by.
Goodbye Frodo Waggins. You were best dog you could be, and you'll always be in my heart.

@joshua_orpin: Introducing the newest Krypto: Pepsi! This little guy is only young, but he's already a superstar, with an incredible backstory. He was found as a stray in Missouri and taken to a shelter, where he was at risk of being euthanised. Saved by @lucky13rescue and fostered at a boarding kennel, he was finally adopted into a loving home with trainer Melissa Millett - to play Krypto in our third season of Titans. He was small, timid and lacking socialization, but very fortunately made out of the US and was delivered to Melissa + the Krypto team one week before the pandemic hit. To top it all off, he also tested positive for Heartworm. The delays we experienced due to Covid-19 this year gave him the time he needed to recover and train. Now healthy, happy and brave, Pepsi is killing it in front of the camera this season 💪 We are all so proud and thankful for his resilience and courage, this fella is about as close as you can get to a real life superhero! Can't wait for you to see him on your screens in 2021. This just goes to show that all animals have potential, and deserve a second chance! If you're thinking about adopting, please check your local shelters and rescue organisations for your next family member and best friend. Shout out to @lucky13rescue for saving his life and the lives of many more dogs in need! Swipe right for an exclusive behind the scenes pic of me at work, shooting #titansseason3. Yes, this is a real scene and yes, believe it or not, this is professional acting.

Crozier is hanging out at the Titanic museum in Branson Missouri! I apologize that there won’t be any interior photos with this adventure, the museum respectfully asks there to be no photography inside.
Now, this model that Crozier is sitting in front of is perhaps an eighth the size of the actual ship. A second model would need to be stacked on top of it, and then stretched out for four city blocks. Down near the bottom corner of the iceberg you can see a couple people and that will give you an idea just how tall even the model is.
Now, many of the items inside this museum were recovered during the second dive town to the Titanic wreckage and much of it belongs to a private collector. The museum also has many other artifacts which have come from the White Star Line, they were not used aboard Titanic and simply are items owned by the same company that would have been used on many of their ships, including Titanic. Those include much of the dishware, tea sets, mugs, spoons, etc which are in the museum. Some are from Titanic herself, some from Olympia, and some simply bought when the company eventually collapsed.
There were several dogs aboard Titanic, and each one of them had to have their own papers and boarding pass. Crozier was issued a boarding pass when we got to the museum, and according to the crew members, they give all visiting dogs such a pass and try to match the breed or at least the coloring of the dogs. Crozier was carrying the name and memory of Lady Fru Fru with him while visiting. The museum also has the first memorial to the dogs aboard Titanic, there were 12 known dogs aboard who all belonged to First Class Passengers. They remained in a kennel which was top notch. They were even taken out daily for exercise on deck. Three dogs survived the sinking, they were small breed dogs which likely had remained with their owners in their state rooms as some First Class passengers had been known to do. Lady Fru Fru had lived in her owner’s state room, but had not survived the sinking.
We also learned about the LaRoche family who were not discovered until after the movie had been made. Mr. LaRoche was a very wealthy gentleman from Haiti who was an excellent engineer and very well learned fellow. He traveled for work and eventually made his way to France. Being the early 1900s Mr. LaRoche was not well paid for his work and was not well respected as he should have been. He eventually met and married a white French woman and they had two very adorable little girls. Mr. and Mrs. LaRoche eventually decided to travel back to Haiti to be with his family. The LaRoche family had originally gotten tickets on another ship, but Mrs. LaRoche learned that children were expected to remain in the nursery, so she exchanged her tickets for Titanic. The family traveled Second Class with the intention of off-boarding in New York and transferring ships to go down to Hati. Unlike many other passengers who were immigrants wanting a better life, the extremely wealthy going on a cruise, etc, the LaRoche family was simply traveling on Titanic the way they would have a train, going from one place to another.  Mrs. LaRoche and her daughters did survive the sinking and make it to New York, they eventually decided to return to live with her family in France.
Something else we learned was about the grand staircase! It’s always thought, by myself included, that the Grand Staircase was floored with something like marble or granite. Not so. The brand new product at the time which was more expensive - was linoleum! The beautiful floor around the beautiful staircase was made of linoleum. It blew my mind.
Third class passengers of most major liners of the day were expected to bring their own food and goods for the trip. However, aboard Titanic and her sister ship, third class passengers were provided with their meals. While the rooms were crowded they did have plumbing and there was also a dining hall. It appeared like Third Class aboard Titanic was the same as second on some other lines, and it is recorded by passengers that Second Class aboard Titanic is equivalent to First aboard other ships.
I can keep going but this post is getting too damn long. Sorry guys. Anyway if anyone ever wants to chat Titanic I am always happy to do so!

Miniature Bull Terriers
Temperament:
- Upbeat, Mischievous, Comical, Fearless, “Terrier fire”
Size:
- Height: 10-14 in @ the shoulders
- Weight: 18-28 lbs
Life Expectancy:
- 11-14 yrs
- activity levels tend to slow down around 11-12 yrs
About:
- Almost exactly like the Bull Terrier
- Square, muscular, strong for their size
- Large, egg-shaped head and dark, triangular eyes
Nutrition:
- In order to not change a dog’s diet too fast, find out what your new puppies diet was at the breeder’s.
- For a day or two a puppy may not eat because of the new surrounding, any longer than that; contact a vet.
- Don’t leave food down for a puppy if it doesn’t clear it.
- If the puppy experiences any other symptoms, then contact a vet
- If not, the puppy is most likely ‘training the owner’, bull terriers tend to do this, don’t put the food back down and continue with feeding normally.
- Follow breeder/vet advice on portions; bull terriers are sensitive to becoming    overweight.
- Ask your breeder for a natural method feeding chart
- Bull terriers have very powerful jaws and can chew off and swallow pieces of bones which can cause blockages in the digestive system.
- Don’t give your mini bull terrier bones
- Raw hide chews should NEVER be given to bull terriers (including minis!)
- They can be swallowed and get stuck in the throat
Grooming
- Minis have fast growing nails, regular trimming is needed
- Minis are prone to “eye boogers”, just use a damp clothe to wipe them away and then a dry cloth to dry whenever you spot these
- At home weekly ear checks, look for wax (use a cotton ball to gently remove any wax), or infection (redness, swelling, bad odors). If any signs of infection, contact a vet
- Regular teeth brushing and vet cleanings
- Regular baths (every three months, unless your mini plays in dirt or mud (which is not unlikely!) then use a bristle brush to remove dirt then bathe immediately.)
- Use a hypoallergenic shampoo, minis have very sensitive skin.
- Outside shedding season a weekly once-over with a soft brush or a hound glove is all that’s needed for a well groomed bull terrier!
- During the twice a year shedding season (spring and fall) a daily once-over is recommended.
Basic Brushing
You’ll need: a bristle brush, a fine-tooth comb, and a grooming glove
1. Use bristle brush, start at head and work down he dog’s body, ending with the hind flanks (the space between the hip and thigh) and the tail. Be gentle but thorough!
2. Use the comb, use long strokes to remove loose hair.
3. Use the grooming glove.
4. (Opt.) Spritz a little conditioning spray or rub on a bit of coconut oil
Exercise
- Mini bull terriers require enough exercise to keep good muscle tone.
- Preferably access to a yard but can live in a sizable apartment or condo.
- A moderate walk daily is needed after the 1 year point
-  NOT AN OUTSIDE DOG
- A “sudden lameness” can occur in puppies
- Puppies’ joints can’t handle the energy the puppy wants to exert
- Minimum exercise, no jumping up and down from heights, or sudden stops at high speeds for puppies
Training
- Minis will usually require a trainer with a firm hand and a gentle voice, with patience and a good sense of humor
- Clicker training is recommended
- Positive, light, and fun training that keeps the terrier’s attention is most effective
- Heavy socialization from 8-20 wks is essential, and starting training early is a good idea
- Canine Good Citizen programs are awesome!
- Some cool trainers listed by state below!
Health
Ask your breeder for:
- Health tests performed on sire and dam (father and mother)
- Results on heart and kidney issues, deafness, luxating patellas (a kneecap disorder), and primary lens luxation (dislocation of the eye lens) tests
Recommended Health Tests:
- BEAR Testing
- Kidney-Urine Analysis
- Opthalmologist Exam
- Cardiac Exam
- PLL DNA Test
- May have issues with glaucoma, lens luxation, and deafness
- Susceptible to kidney disease
- Regular hearing and eye exams are highly recommended.
Official Breed Club Health Statement
History
- Bull terriers were created as fighting dogs in 1830s England
- Cross between bulldogs and (now extinct) english terriers
-  Soon a mini version was worked on to use as above-ground ratters (it’s exactly what is sounds like.)
- Recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1991 as their 134th breed.
Other Future Owner Info
Energy Level: Energetic
Children: Better with older children
Barking: Likes to be vocal
- Can’t be home alone for too long
- Will get bored and tear apart everything
- They can suffer from separation anxiety which can cause nonstop barking and chasing of the tail incessantly
- Incredibly affectionate
-  Unneutered male don’t get along with other males

THE UNION SCREAMING HOUSE MISSOURI
The Union Screaming House at night, Steven LaChance haunted house in Missouri. Within a week of settling into the new home, Steve’s young son had ventured into the basement where he encountered “something”. He ran from the basement screaming in terror and upon questioning told his father that a formless creature he couldn't describe had approached him and chased him up the stairs. Whatever he had seen was enough to cause him to urinate himself. Children imagine things such as this all the time and his parents assumed it was just that, until they started seeing it too. At first it was that same formless mass, but soon it began to take more specific forms, and phenomenon within the house increased exponentially. Cold flashes were experienced by all members of the family coming and going through rooms in no more time than a few minutes. Steve had locked a few of the doors using those original hook and eye latch’s to designate the rooms as off limits for the children, but this caused the doors to shake and rattle. A sound he compared to a warzone.
Possibly the biggest mistake was Steve’s acknowledgement that he now lived in a haunted house. Being your average protective father, he challenged the entity, insisting that it leave his family in peace. This ended with the family fleeing the house and locking the door behind them, only to be met by the sound of a man screaming uncontrollably from behind the door. Steve recounts that it was loud enough for dogs across the neighborhood to begin barking and howling. As the family got into their car and began to drive away they could still hear the screaming and a terrible booming noise throughout the house. Through the windows they could see a smoky black mass moving from room to room as though searching for them. That was the last night they would live in the house. Steven returned on a few occasions, but never alone, and the children were never again brought to the house.
Normally we would not cover a story where the causes and history are so obscured as to almost be non-existent, but in this case later evidence becomes entirely overwhelming. Over the years the house remained vacant for months at a time with new tenants staying no more than a few months themselves. These tenants are not willing to discuss what it was that pushed them from the house, but on more than one occasion it was enough to warrant a visit from the police who took statements from a terrified family staring back at their house from the lawn.
Today the property is a dog kennel and although people are often in the home, none stay the night. Many have taken photographs inside the property and it is near impossible to take one that does not include some form of anomaly. There have been investigations from a handful of paranormal societies, some turning out EVP recordings that chill to the bone. Those that have visited the home whether they are investigators or kennel staff have a single shared belief of what it is at 809 North Christina Ave, The Union Screaming House. Some say it is demonic, and others believe firmly that it is Union Captain John T. Crowe, but they all definitely agree on “evil”.
