Ukraine is one of the world's most digital countriesUkrainians can access 130 services from the Diia portalRounding a corner in Kyiv on 24 Feb 2022, Oleksandr Bornyakov remembers driving into a gun battle. It was day one of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and Russian saboteurs were fighting with Ukrainian security forces in the centre of the Ukrainian capital."There is shooting, cars are burning, armoured vehicles are burning... when we eventually passed... there were a lot of bodies."As a government minister he had been ordered to drive hundreds of kilometres west and continue his work in a safer location. Beginning in 2019, Bornykov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, had been managing the shift of Ukraine's government services to a new app called Diia (the Ukrainian word for action). The idea was that citizens could access everything they needed from their mobile phones; driving licences, marriage certificates, house deeds, and much more. They started with driver's licences in 2019, which was quite popular, but the Diia app got a boost during the pandemic, when Covid certificates were added. "This gave another maybe two or three million people," says Bornykov.Despite the war Diia has continued to develop.Today the app hosts 40 government services, including tax payment, car registration and marriage applications. Perhaps more fun - Ukrainians can make local selections for Eurovision via the app, including selecting national jury members and choosing the national representative. Additionally, 30 documents are available on the app; Bornykov, flicked through some of his for me including his gun licence and car insurance. There is also a Diia portal, which can be accessed via a browser on a computer, which has 130 services for citizens and businesses. In total Diia has 22.7 million users. All this, according to Bornyakov, makes Ukraine one of the leading countries when it comes to digital government services - in his opinion putting Ukraine ahead of Estonia, which is well known for its digital government."I haven't seen anybody else doing better than us, except maybe Saudi Arabia, and this both relates to number of users and and the approach."Marriage admin can all be done via the Diia appHow has Ukraine been able to make such progress, despite the disruption of Covid and amid, for the last three years, fighting off Russian invaders?Part of it is having the right workforce, according to Bornyakov. He says that for the past 20 years Ukraine has been a popular destination for companies looking to outsource IT projects. He estimates that there are 300,000 software developers in Ukraine, many of whom have worked on complex projects for big international companies. "There's a lot of technical and experienced engineers that can do brilliant things," he says. They are also not as expensive as elsewhere in the world. So, he estimates that between five and 10 million dollars was spent on developing Diia. Hiring software developers in the UK would cost five or 10 times as much, he says. The Diia app was used to select Ukraine's Eurovision act, ZiferblatDavid Eaves is associate professor of digital government at University College London, and has studied efforts by governments all over the world to digitise their services. He says the key to Ukraine's success was work done prior to building the app. Using software similar to that used by Estonia, Ukraine created a data exchange, which made it easy for data flow from government departments and organisations. The Diia app was then added on top of the data exchange."If you have this flexibility of moving data around, it becomes much easier to build new services, because rather than asking citizens for the same information all over again, you can simply request their permission to access it," says Prof Eaves. So, when applying for a benefit, users don't have to re-enter their address, place of birth, martial status, and their income could be checked against their tax records. Not only does this reduce the administr

Mobile phones a decade ago were instruments of bare necessity capable of calling sending text messages, maybe play basic games to kill some time. But then with the advent of smart phones like iphone and android, the whole scenario changed. Nowadays, to stay up-to-date with the world around us, smart phones are a necessity and when it comes to smart phones software is equally important along with powerful hardware. Software means mobile apps, from apps that are used to do basic work to apps containing high graphics and heavy on size, there are different kinds of demand for each kind of apps. With the users tending to rely on apps for simple needs like messaging to booking movie tickets to ordering items on online supermarkets, the Mobile Apps are booming. There are a few things to know about how one can develop mobile apps: Type of applications There are various types of mobile applications that one can think of designing. For instance, 1.    Web based apps there are web based mobile apps that one can develop that will both work on pcs and mobiles. These are mostly basic apps used to browse basic information or to read, light games can be included in these kinds of apps but heavy applications are not generally web based. 2.   Mobile apps These applications are made on various platforms developed specifically for developing mobile phone apps. There are more than one platforms for developing these apps. These platforms provide a scope for complex and rich mobile application development. Most of the apps available online are made on platforms. Heavy games to basic applications with beautiful interfaces, platforms are needed. Platforms There are many platforms to develop android and apple apps. There are platforms like C, C sharp, Java, Python etc. each of these platforms provide different environments and are flexible in different manners. The developers choose the platforms based on the kind of application they are developing. Since, each of these platforms provide different kinds of environments, it is essential to choose the right platform for developing the right app. Java is the best kind of platform if you are looking for something light and something that will work well in smart phones as well as a few phones that are not as smart. Python on the other hand can handle heavy graphics and intricate details, where C sharp will provide good graphics and the will serve the purpose in a more efficient manner. Devices With the advent of new wearable tech, a new branch of app development has sprung up. Can creative production outsourcing help with creativity?
Tumblr media
Could in-house production be getting in the way of creativity? In March 2022, EKCS asked delegates at Creative Operations London what their biggest challenges were for their team right now. In the ‘challenges for IHAs in a post-pandemic world’ survey, 27% of in-house agencies (IHAs) said ‘finding time for creative work.’
It was Albert Einstein who said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun." But these days, it’s all too easy to feel that there is little time to have fun, and even less time to be creative! The ability to think creatively is vital for in-house agencies and brands. Yet, so often it’s difficult, or even impossible, to harness our creativity when it is needed the most.
An EKCS poll conducted in April 2021 showed that one-fifth of IHA leaders still felt that they were mainly a production entity, running as a centralized production team over and above being creative-led. Does your artworker really want to resize print adverts or your web developer create multiple banners when they could be working on ideation and other creative elements?
Creating Time To Be Creative
Creative production outsourcing is all about enabling staff and your IHA to do more. IHAs consist of talented individuals who should always be leading creative strategy. There are so many challenges that hinder creative output when working in-house. But the key challenge is time, or lack of it. That’s why more and more IHAs are looking to outsource their creative production to an offshore partner.
What to outsource?
As American management consultant, Peter Drucker, wrote in the Harvard Business Review back in the 1980’s, “Do what you do best – and outsource the rest!”
In-house agencies often outsource these seven areas to free up creative time.
Digital banners
Artwork and retouching
Content localisation (social, digital & video)
Annual reports and PowerPoint
Video editing
Post-production video editing and animation
Web / Mobile App development
Find Out More…
EKCS is delighted to be a sponsor for Henry Stewart's Creative Operations Los Angeles event on October 25th, the West Coast's leading conference dedicated to Creative Operations. Robert Berkeley, CEO of EKCS, will speak about how to create a creative work environment.

Nationwide developing banking app with extra security based on user behaviour
People could be able to access their mobile banking by an app recognising how they hold, swipe, or type into their device, due to an innovation from Britain's biggest building society.
Nationwide Building Society has developed a prototype within a mobile banking app, which could provide an extra layer of "behavioural biometrics" security by recognising unique patterns from people's natural interactions with their smartphone or tablet.
New research from Nationwide has also found the average UK adult now has to remember six different passwords - and one in four people has more than 10 passwords to remember.
While the prototype is still in the early stages, Nationwide said that eventually it could be used as additional security for mobile banking alongside more "traditional" methods such as Pins and passwords, as well as using other technology such as fingerprint scanning and voice recognition.
Currently, it is being used as a way of authenticating payments made within an app as an extra layer of security, but it could be used in future as a way of logging in alongside other security methods.
It could in principle be used in place of other security - but it is thought that it would likely remain as an additional level of security. Are you looking for business translation services? Contact Translation Agency UK
The prototype is being developed by Nationwide's "innovation team" in partnership with technology companies BehavioSec and Unisys. It gives people a certain percentage score. People would have to achieve a certain percentage likeness to the way they personally use their phone or tablet to get the go-ahead within the app.
James Smith, head of innovation at Nationwide Building Society, said: "Behavioural biometrics monitor the patterns and habits that are unique to each mobile banking user - everyone holds and interacts with their mobile device in a different way.
"The prototype provides an exciting insight into what the future may hold, as we investigate new ways to enhance security."
Seven in 10 (70%) people surveyed for Nationwide said they struggle to remember their passwords and end up clicking "forgotten password" links twice a month on average.
People in the South West, London and Yorkshire and the Humber were the most likely to say they struggle to remember passwords, while people in East Anglia were the most likely to say this is not a problem for them.
Nationwide's research among 2,000 people found 70% of those surveyed want more security but do not want to add to the number of passwords or Pins to remember.
When asked what the future could hold for mobile phone security, nearly 60% think retina scanners would be built into devices within 10 years, with nearly 30% suggesting that a whole face scanner will be the way to unlock the mobile phones of the future.
Mr Smith continued: "While we all know it's important to change our passwords regularly, this research highlights just how many different passwords people need to remember in an increasingly digital world."

Gems can be traded for Energy and to unlock quests, making them super-valuable in-game. Here are a few ways you can earn more gems:
- Choosing gems over Energy points when you've completed a quest

mobile app development West London
Mobile app development has become an integral part of the digital landscape, shaping how we interact with technology on a daily basis. In this modern era, where smartphones have become ubiquitous, the demand for innovative and user-friendly mobile applications is at an all-time high. The process of mobile app development encompasses a series of stages, from conceptualization to deployment, each requiring careful planning and execution to ensure a successful end product.
The initial phase of mobile app development uxbridge involves brainstorming and conceptualization. Developers collaborate with clients or stakeholders to define the app's purpose, target audience, features, and overall design aesthetics. This stage lays the foundation for the entire development process, as it sets the direction and goals for the project. Market research and competitor analysis also play a crucial role in this phase, helping developers identify unique selling points and potential challenges.
Once the concept is finalized, developers move on to the design stage, where they create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes. User experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design are paramount during this phase, as they directly impact how users interact with the app. Designers focus on creating intuitive navigation, visually appealing layouts, and consistent branding elements to enhance the overall user experience. Feedback from stakeholders and usability testing help refine the design before proceeding to the next stage.
With the design approved, developers begin the development phase, where they write code to bring the app to life. This stage involves backend and frontend development, database integration, API implementation, and other technical aspects. Depending on the project's complexity, developers may choose native, hybrid, or cross-platform development frameworks. Agile methodologies are often employed to ensure flexibility and adaptability throughout the development process, allowing for iterative improvements based on user feedback.

Goldman Sachs Will Ask Most Workers to Return in June: Live Updates Here’s what you need to know: Goldman Sachs headquarters in New York.Credit…Johannes Eisele/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images Goldman Sachs plans to ask most workers based in the United States and United Kingdom offices to return to the office in June, according to a person familiar with the matter, making it one of the first big banks to request an end to remote working. In a memo expected to be sent to bank employees on Tuesday, Goldman officials will ask that workers “prepare” to return to the office during the second half of June, the person said. The memo will target employees who are based in the firm’s New York headquarters as well as other U.S. cities, including San Francisco and Dallas, and those in London, the person added. Most employees at the big banks have been working from home since the pandemic began last year, but Goldman’s plans signal that some executives are eager to attempt a return to office life. JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s biggest bank, plans to open all its U.S. offices on May 17 for employees who wish to return voluntarily. That will be followed by a compulsory return in July, when workers will rotate in and out of the office in accordance with safety measures that will limit each office’s capacity. Bank of America has not yet announced to employees when a fuller return to the office is expected. Twitter has begun to add paid subscriptions, and announced plans to introduce other subscriber features in the future.Credit…Laura Morton for The New York Times Twitter plans to acquire the subscription service Scroll, the social media company announced on Tuesday, as it expands its plans for subscription offerings. The two companies declined to disclose the deal terms. Scroll charges its users a fee to block advertising on participating news websites, then distributes a cut of its earnings to its partner publishers, which include USA Today, Vox and The Atlantic. Publishers can earn up to 50 percent more from the service than they do from advertising, Scroll contends. Twitter plans to integrate the service into its platform, and use its technology to build other subscription services. “People come to Twitter every day to discover and read about what’s happening,” Mike Park, Twitter’s vice president for product, said in a blog post announcing the deal. “If Twitter is where so much of this conversation lives, it should be easier and simpler to read the content that drives it.” In recent months, Twitter has begun to add paid subscriptions, and announced plans to introduce other subscriber features in the future. In January, Twitter acquired Revue, a newsletter provider, and said it would take a 5 percent cut of subscription revenue. In February, the company revealed plans to introduce “Super Follows,” a feature that would allow Twitter users to place some of their content behind a pay wall. And this week, Twitter said it planned to add a ticketing feature to its audio chat, Spaces, so that hosts can charge listeners for entry into their discussions. Twitter plans to supplement its advertising revenue with revenue from subscriptions, and has raced to add content like newsletters and audio chats that it thinks audiences will pay for. Its acquisition of Scroll will add journalism to that list. “For every other platform, journalism is dispensable. If journalism were to disappear tomorrow their business would carry on much as before,” Tony Haile, Scroll’s chief executive, wrote in a blog post. “Twitter is the only large platform whose success is deeply intertwined with a sustainable journalism ecosystem.” Tim Sweeney, the chief executive of Epic Games, said that the company wanted to build “a phenomenon that transcends gaming.”Credit…Jim Wilson/The New York Times The chief executive of Epic Games offered a granular explanation of the popular game Fortnite to paint an expansive portrait of his company’s world on the first day of what is expected to be a three-week trial, pitting Epic against Apple in a fight over Apple’s App Store fees and other rules that could reshape the $100 billion app economy. Fortnite, Tim Sweeney said, “is a phenomenon that transcends gaming,” Erin Griffith reports for The New York Times. “Our aim of Fortnite is to build something like a metaverse from science fiction,” he said. Metaverse? A court reporter needed clarification. It’s a virtual world for socializing and entertainment, Mr. Sweeney said. In a mostly empty courtroom in Oakland, Katherine Forrest of the law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore opened Epic’s case by previewing a series of emails between Apple’s top executives. The emails were evidence, Ms. Forrest argued, that the tech giant purposely created a “walled garden” that locks consumers and developers inside. That forces them to use Apple’s payment system, she said. Once Apple lured users and developers into its walled garden, “the garden gate was closed, the lock turned,” Ms. Forrest said. She compared Apple’s fees on in-app purchases for subscription services to a car dealership that takes a commission on gas sales. Apple’s lawyers described, in their opening statement, a thriving market for app distribution that includes gaming consoles, desktop computer gaming and the mobile web. Karen Dunn of Paul, Weiss argued that the 30 percent commission was in line with industry standards and that Epic’s requests, if granted, would make iPhones less secure, while unlawfully forcing Apple to do business with a competitor. Ms. Dunn added that Epic’s case was a self-serving way to avoid paying fees it owed Apple and was on shaky legal footing. Pfizer’s vaccine is disproportionately reaching the world’s rich.Credit…Dado Ruvic/Reuters On Tuesday, Pfizer announced that its Covid vaccine brought in $3.5 billion in revenue in the first three months of this year, nearly a quarter of its total revenue. The vaccine was, far and away, Pfizer’s biggest source of revenue, report Rebecca Robbins and Peter S. Goodman of The New York Times. The company did not disclose the profits it derived from the vaccine, but it reiterated its previous prediction that its profit margins on the vaccine would be in the high 20 percent range. That would translate into roughly $900 million in pretax vaccine profits in the first quarter. Pfizer has been widely credited with developing an unproven technology that has saved an untold number of lives. But the company’s vaccine is disproportionately reaching the world’s rich — an outcome, so far at least, at odds with its chief executive’s pledge to ensure that poorer countries “have the same access as the rest of the world” to a vaccine that is highly effective at preventing Covid-19. As of mid-April, wealthy countries had secured more than 87 percent of the more than 700 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines dispensed worldwide, while poor countries had received only 0.2 percent, according to the World Health Organization. In wealthy countries, roughly one in four people has received a vaccine. In poor countries, the figure is one in 500. Throughout the pandemic, Eleven Madison Park has been preparing food boxes for needy families. The new plant-based iteration of the restaurant will help sustain efforts like those, said its chef, Daniel Humm.Credit…Lucas Jackson/Reuters Eleven Madison Park, the Manhattan restaurant that has been called the best in the world, will serve an all-plant-based menu when it reopens after more than a year of being closed because of the pandemic. Eleven Madison Park’s multicourse menu will keep its prepandemic price of $335, including tip, Brett Anderson and Jenny Gross report for The New York Times. Daniel Humm, Eleven Madison Park’s chef, said the decision is the result of a yearslong re-evaluation about where his career was headed, which reached its breaking point during the pandemic. “It became very clear to me that our idea of what luxury is had to change,” Mr. Humm said. “We couldn’t go back to doing what we did before.” While the restaurant’s ingredient costs will go down, labor costs will go up as Mr. Humm and his chefs work to make vegan food live up to Eleven Madison Park’s reputation. “It’s a labor intensive and time consuming process,” he said. It marks a striking departure for one of the most lavishly praised American restaurants of the past 20 years. Though Mr. Humm still offers plenty of red meat at his London restaurant, Davies and Brook at Claridge’s hotel, the move at Eleven Madison Park — which has four stars from The New York Times and three from Michelin — suggests how different fine dining may look as restaurants reopen and reimagine themselves. It has not closed above $70 barrel since late 2018. West Texas Intermediate gained 1.7 percent, to $65.60 a barrel. A chip-maker’s troubles Infineon, a big producer of semiconductors in Germany, reported “booming” demand for chips as it posted strong quarterly results. But the company warned of continuing supply chain problems and its shares fell. “Demand greatly exceeds supply for the majority of applications,” said the chief executive, Reinhard Ploss, in a statement. Even though its plants are running at “full speed,” he continued, the company still faced supply chain bottlenecks. “We are doing everything we can to provide our customers with the best possible support in this situation.” Saudi Aramco earnings The world’s largest oil producer, Saudi Aramco, reported a 30 percent rise in net income in the first quarter compared with the same period a year ago. The company is joining other energy producers that reported strong earnings this quarter as oil prices continued their recovery from last year’s collapse. “The momentum provided by the global economic recovery has strengthened energy markets,” Aramco’s chief executive, Amin H. Nasser, said in a statement. “Given the positive signs for energy demand in 2021, there are more reasons to be optimistic that better days are coming.” Source link Orbem News #Goldman #June #Live #return #Sachs #Updates #Workers
