[Text: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, BMI is an "inexpensive and easy screening method" that is "strongly correlated" with weight-related medical conditions. But in recent years, BMI has come increasingly under fire with critics denouncing the method as not just unreliable but sexist and racist.]
I am so goddamn tired of people ignoring fatphobia. Fat people have been talking about the problems with BMI for decades and decades. BMI is fatphobic as fuck and does an incredible amount of harm to fat people, and the BMI scale is fatphobic in ways beyond just being "unreliable."
Yet the world only cares when the BMI is sexist and racist. The problems with the BMI scale don't matter until it's about the oppression of other groups that "actually matter."
I'm glad that people are talking about the ways that BMI perpetuates racism and sexism. Simultaneously, people should have cared decades before that was pointed out. People should have cared when it was fat voices being silenced.
This world is so goddamn desperate to sweep fat people's oppression under the rug while allowing mainstream activism movements for everybody else. If you do not give a shit when your fat siblings are being killed by medical fatphobia, then you do not truly give a shit when the topic switches to the groups you actually care about.
It's time to give a fuck about fat people.

I tested the setup more this morning, and around the point that I had a seven-year-old who was naked apart from a gas mask sneaking past giant spiders to loot ammo off of dead people it was like: yeah, this seems like it's got potential. So, let's get this going.
Here's the mod list. A few things of note:
I have Combat Extended on there. This means that guns are going to need ammo, armor is a lot more meaningful, high-skill combatants are much more dangerous, and about a billion other changes. In general this makes the early game way easier, because suddenly an armed human doesn't stand a 40% chance of losing a fight to a rabid squirrel.
While this isn't a nomadic setup, vehicles are around. I've also got Deconstructable Vehicles on a friend's recommendation, which lets you loot ruined ancient cars for parts. If I started off with the right research, I could probably build a car within the first week or two.
Probably the most immediately noticeable one: I have basically every xenotype mod I've used before enabled. This is, to be straightforward about it, a bad idea. I probably have four different genes for fire-breathing in here. The xenotype list looks like this nonsense:
The scenario on the other hand is pretty damn straightforward:
In addition to the stuff that shows here: the starting character will be a Succubus, ages 15-19. The starting map won't have an exostrider, which means no easy mechanitor.
The planet is using pretty standard generation settings, but I cranked the population up to offer more raiding targets. With all these mods, the list of factions is wild.
As is the map:
