btw all the distortion nonsense is happening to an entire goddamned orchestra! yesterday a friend shared kristen's boss theme from arknights, and the sweeping melodic shit was so good that i wanted to take a crack at the whole "ebic orchestra!!1!" thing
my orchestral libraries aren't the best but they're clearly enough lmao. and i dunno, once i had the brass and the strings in there they were screaming. i had to accentuate that. and so i lumped a bunch of (tasteful) distortion on the master bus! perhaps a divisive mixing decision but i super love how it turned out :3 shoutout to the synth backing the melody, in which i rode the modwheel to get some vibrato in there, except monark actually wanted to do... whatever the fuck this was instead
and it sounds SICK
u ever just sic the triple combo of multiband distortion and overdriven tape saturation and a fucking clipper all in series and directly on your master bus
look sometimes u just need that grit okay
#btw it's a noise LFO assigned to pitch!#vibrato is typically done with a sine wave#but raw noise makes for some rad chaotic warbling#arknights#kristen wright#lone trail#gub music

Best midi keyboards 2022

A MIDI controller keyboard is an essential piece of equipment in any studio. The best MIDI controllers can take your recordings to a whole new level. If you're not sure where to start, we've got all the information you need right here. USB-based MIDI controllers offer an easy and convenient way to play and record software instruments with your computer. They can be plugged directly into your PC or laptop via USB, or in some cases they can operate wirelessly over Bluetooth. This makes them a central performance hub for your studio, allowing you to play and record software instruments with ease. Some MIDI controllers also double up as a control interface for hardware synths, making them an essential piece of kit for any producer or musician. There are a variety of different MIDI keyboards to choose from, depending on your needs. You can go for a smaller, more portable model that fits comfortably in a laptop bag, or you can go all out with a full-sized 88-note keyboard with weighted keys. The most important factors to consider include the number of keys (some models have 88 keys, while others have fewer), the type of action (weighted keys or not), and whether or not you need additional features such as knobs, pads, buttons and faders. When shopping for a MIDI keyboard, it's important to consider what you need in order to make the best purchase. You can get a cheap model for less than $100 if you look around, but if you're looking for a higher quality option with more features, you'll likely have to spend a bit more. In general, MIDI keyboards that cost more tend to be more rugged and able to stand up to travel. So, if you're looking for something to take on the road with you, it might be worth spending a bit more. Finding the right one for you can be a daunting task. With so many options available, it can be hard to know where to start. Our price comparison widgets have found the best deals online right now, so you can be sure you're getting the best possible price. If you need more guidance, head to the buying advice section at the bottom of the page. There, you'll find tips and advice on how to find the perfect product for your needs.

MDI keyboard selection criteria
The best piano replacements don't have to strictly follow the 88 weighted key rule. There are many great pianos that don't follow this rule, and can still produce beautiful music. So, don't be afraid to choose a different type of piano if it speaks to you. Ultimately, the best piano for you is the one that you feel most comfortable playing and that makes you happy. What are we looking for: - High build quality; - Soft touch keys; - Pitch-bend and modwheel; - Velocity/pressure sensitivity. Choosing a MIDI keyboard can be a difficult process, especially if you don’t know what to look for. There are a few important factors you need to consider, such as the build quality and playability of the keyboard. This list is short due to those factors, but it will ensure that any recommendation we make will feel well-built and playable. You won’t regret your purchase if you take these factors into consideration. When it comes to MIDI controllers, there are a few different things you'll need to decide on before making a purchase. The first decision is the keybed size- some controllers come in miniature 25-key sizes, while others are full sized with 88 keys. Aside from the number of keys, the controllers are essentially the same. The following parameters will need to be guided subjectively at your own discretion: - Number of Keys. The number of keys on a keyboard can affect its price and bulkiness. More keys mean a higher price and more bulk, which might be unnecessary if you’re not playing classical pieces. 49 keys are good enough for synthesizer-focused players, whereas 61 keys are a good amount for keyboardists who need; - Key Type. Synth-action keys are the most common type of keys found on digital pianos. They are generally more lightweight and responsive than weighted keys, but still provide a sense of resistance that is often desired in piano playing. Weighted keys, on the other hand, offer a heavier touch that can be more advantageous for certain types of music. Semi-weighted keys are a rarer option that falls somewhere in between the two, offering players the best of both worlds in terms of responsiveness and resistance; - Number of Controls. It's good to have knobs and buttons for assigning software functions with MIDI Learn, but most of us don't need a full digital mixing board. If we did, we'd be buying something else. Knowing what you need is key. If you don't need the controls, you can get the same keybed on the Nektar SE49, which is a stripped-down version of the Nektar GX49. Knowing what you need is key to getting the right product; - Number of Controls. Knowing what you need is key to getting the right product; - Aftertouch is one of the most unique and expressive features on a keyboard. Unlike typical pressure sensitivity, aftertouch continues to detect how hard you’re pushing down until you let go. This can be used to add extra layers of expressivity to your performances on instruments like organs, where aftertouch can be assigned to control the rotary speaker speed; - 5-Pin MIDI Support. If you're using a MIDI controller that doesn't have a MIDI port, you can use a USB MIDI interface to send MIDI signals through a traditional 5-pin MIDI cable. However, this can be inconvenient because USB ports are limited on laptops. Here's an example of how to connect a USB MIDI controller to legacy hardware: USB MIDI Keyboard -> Computer -> USB MIDI Interface -> 5-Pin MIDI Cable -> Legacy Hardware. Although it's possible to use USB MIDI controllers without a MIDI port, it's not as straightforward; - Pads. Pads are an important part of a keyboard, but they are not a necessary component. They are essentially larger buttons, which can be helpful for playing on a main keyboard. Finger drumming is a popular activity, but I find that keyboard-drumming is more precise. Your own experience may vary; - Pedal Support. When looking for a keyboard, it's important to consider whether or not the model has a pedal jack. Not all keyboards have this feature, particularly the smaller, portable 25-key models. However, it's always better to be safe than sorry, so it's best to make sure that the model you're interested in includes pedal support. This can be either through a proprietary jack or otherwise; - Software Support. MIDI controllers that are designed to integrate well with specific software can be a great option for musicians who want the best possible experience with their music-making tools. By choosing a controller that is specifically tailored to work well with your software, you can eliminate many of the compatibility issues that can arise when using different programs. This can lead to a smoother, more efficient workflow and help you get the most out of your music-making.

If you're looking for a small MIDI keyboard and don't want to break the bank, Nektar's new SE25 is well worth considering. It delivers almost the same functionality as the Komplete Kontrol S-Series (see below), making it an excellent mobile option for producers on the go. The Komplete Kontrol M32 replaced the pitch and modulation controls with a pair of short touch strips. Also, the controller is equipped with 8 capacitive knobs, a 4d encoder, as well as numerous buttons that are incomparable in their tactile sensations. All this provides a high comfort of control, working with the operating Maschine, as well as using the interface of your DAW. The OLED display and Smart Play features from the A-Series are also in place on the B-Series, allowing you to scale snap, chord trigger and arpeggiate with ease. As a regular MIDI controller keyboard, it also works with any other software. The mini keys were the only downside to this keyboard for us. We found that we could live with them after some getting used to them, so if you can live with them too, this is the best portable and affordable MIDI keyboard you can buy. 6. Korg microKEY2 Air-25

It has a 3-segment LED display, instead of the OLED display on the Pro, and it has 8 back-lit red pads instead of 16 multi-coloured ones. However, it still provides access to 16 sound sources from the front panel when programming. The Oxygen 49 lacks a dedicated MIDI out port, but it does have other features that make it stand out from the crowd. These functions are mostly triggered via soft keys and via 'secondary modes' from the keybed itself. Read the full article

BEHIND YOU.
oh yeah. It’s spooky month y’all.
haven’t posted art in here in a while so! here’s one of my newer ocs, WINDOWS! (Their name is stylized to be in all caps. He also goes by the name GLASS, and xey uses It /They/Xey/He pronouns) gonna infodunp on y’all lol
WINDOWS /GLASS (aka XE-066 “Assassin”) Is a large, canine-like genetically engineered animal that stands at thirty-five and a half feet tall when standing on its hind legs. It’s generally passive-agressive towards strangers (like a cat. but terrifying.), but will eventually become strongly emotionally attached to someone once they’ve gained their trust. It is quite intelligent, and has shown signs of being significantly smarter than the average human. He is capable of speech, however, it is very quiet and has been described as being “whisper-like”. Their senses are much stronger than the average humans, and it possesses a secondary organ in the ears that allows it to sense electrical currents in their surroundings. It’s face appears to have once been a screen monitor of sorts, since there are small ports along its neck where various cords can be inserted. I once stuck a usb in there and they immediately freaked out (it was Minecraft. I swear herobrine was in that world afterwards ), however anything that should be displayed is distorted beyond recognition. No they are not smiling that’s their face uh yeah as they developed the skin around the mouth didn’t giving them a chronic smiles m’gee face. One of its more concerning attributes is that he possesses an ability where it can quickly take over another organism’s body through some way of their cells entering the body (usually through stab and slash attacks), said cells duplicating and merging with the hosts cells, and puppeteering it remotely (this can be triggered on and off, if not in use the host just lives a normal life). Their lower arms (Only where red markings are) can quickly change shape, with primary forms other than the usual claw/paw shape being large spikes, axe heads, or whips. The insides of their paws are lined with small spines. Xey can quickly change the utilization of these specialized cells, usually switching between a muscle-like cell and a cell that serves a similar function to the stomach (uses this to dissolve stuff they need to get through like doors, walls, or any kind of barrier). They can heal from injury at a frightening rate, making them virtually unkillable through the average person’s means (gun, knife), however he cannot survive in extreme cold, and xey lack any form of protection against fire. Xey are generally not prone to feeling pain, but anything having to do with electric shock can immediately incapacitate them.
Personality wise, it is far from being kind or nice, but it isn’t actively malicious or hurtful either. He’s mischievous and kind of a trouble maker, but they can be prone to becoming aggressive and very sensitive when they are confronted with anything that reminds them of their past (too long don’t wanna write but basically got made in a lab, went through horrible experimentation, killed the head warden there, and fucken ran away). Lacks any kind of remorse for beating the shit outta people and they are willing to beat people up if it feels that’s needed (ie this guy shows up to get ur lunch money back), Chaotic neutral alignment. Associates with Juniper and Modwheel (they are ginna be here soon >:)

Today’s mix:
A Jedi’s Night Out by Tom Middleton 1999 Deep House / Future Jazz
This really is one of my favorite mixes ever made. The UK’s Tom Middleton of the great duo Global Communication, aka the Jedi Knights, gives us a blend of deep house and future jazz tunes, delivering a 73-minute package of what a night spent out at a classy, cosmo-planetary spaceship lounge could sound like. It’s super chill and heady and mixed to absolute perfection. Every track is nothing short of fantastic and they all operate under the same unifying theme of exuding supremely dope <|[{s p a c e v i b e s}]|>.
Listen to the full mix here.

LA Synthesis vs. Johnny Astro - “Doidy Dawg” Sensurreal - “Offering A Peach To Celebrate Longevity” Shur-I-Ken - “Niomi’s Dream” max 404 - “Honey” Black Science Orchestra - “New Jersey Deep” Global Communication - “The Way (Secret Ingredients Mix)” Korben Dallas - “All This Music” Wamdue Kids - “Echoes & Instruments” Ian Pooley - “What’s You Number (Jazzanova Renumber)” Stereo People - “Beautiful People (A Song For V)” Espiritu - “Man Don’t Cry (Modwheel Mix)” D*Note - “The Garden Of Earthly Delights (Ballistic Barrio Boom)” A Man Called Adam / AMBA - “All My Favourite People (Stay With Me) (Original Album Mix) / Aural Sedative”

Are All Synths Cross-Platform Compatible?
#Discodsp ob xd free#
Other than that, there aren’t many downsides to free synth VSTs.
#Discodsp ob xd download#
For better or for worse, that’s a risk you take with anything you download off the internet. And that means they may not work in every DAW environment either.Īlso, in a rare instance, if you download from a shady website or the wrong provider, your plugin might come with adware, spyware, viruses, and so on. We’ve included some of the “old guard” VST synths above, but it’s fair to say that many of those don’t come with long-term support or updates. They may not come with onboard effects (though some do), and they may not come with regular updates (but open-source plugins are often maintained long-term by their community). Are There Any Downsides To Free Synth VSTs?įree VSTs don’t always come with preset libraries (though some do). But you can do plenty of damage with the above. If you feel like you’re missing something, or if you’d like to try an upgraded version of some of the above plugins, you might want to spring for it. It just depends on what you’re looking to achieve with your music. We’re impressed with most of the synths on this list, but especially – Surge, Helm, FB-3300, Zebralette, VK-1, and Odin 2.Įven so, you can’t go wrong with any of the above.
#Discodsp ob xd software#
Honestly, we’re astounded by the amount of free, quality software synths available for music producers, sound engineers, and composers.ĭo you need premiums synths for the best sounds? Perhaps so.ĭo you need premium plugins for the most versatile, flexible synths with cutting-edge tech? Yes.īut do you need to pay for plugins to make awesome tracks? Not at all.
#Discodsp ob xd upgrade#
Zebralette is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux.ĭownload: PLUGINS 4 FREE Do I Need To Upgrade To Premium Synth VSTs For The Best Sounds? This is a solid find, and we don’t find it on every “best-of” list, so you should give it a try and see for yourself! We think the sounds could be perfect for synthwave style tracks. We find Zebralette to be a capable synth, and as always, some sounds we wouldn’t use, and most others we would. In addition, you get stereo VCA with pan and volume modulation, VCA oscillator stacking with adjustable stereo width (single, dual, quad, and eleven), ADSR envelope with fall/rise (sustain slope) and velocity controls, modulation (modwheel, velocity, pressure, breath, key follow, gate, and others), two LFOs, 32-stage MSEG, three built-in effects (chorus/phaser, EQ, delay), MIDI learn, polyphonic aftertouch support, 300 factory presets, and more. Regardless, the free Mini Zebra comes with one Zebra2 oscillator with a 16-slot waveset, oscillator waveform editing with geomorph, spectromorph, geoblend, and spectroblend modes, 24 spectral effects (filter, sync, scatter, phase distortion, and others), up to 16 polymorphic voices, as well as monophonic and legato modes. We’ll let you be the one to decide whether you want to upgrade. Zebralette has one, while Zebra2 has four. U-he’s Zebralette: Mini Zebra, by their own admission, is their “Trojan Horse” to get you hooked on Zebra2’s oscillators. You can get Surge as a 64-bit AU and VST3 for Mac, a 32-bit or 64-bit VST3 for Windows, and a 64-bit VST3 for Linux. That said, you should probably give it a go yourself and see what you come up with! Honestly, it’s the kind of synth I would love messing around with, because of the old-school video game vibes. Surge is beyond versatile, because you can create all kinds of sounds with it – from ethereal and atmospheric, to simple and old school. Sounding good isn’t the issue here, though. If you’re still asking those questions, you probably aren’t impressed by specs, which is okay. So, what’s everyone raving about? Does this thing even sound any good? We could go on, but we think you’re starting to get the idea, and besides, you can read all about this on their website. In addition, you get three oscillators per scene, two filter units in eight configurations, 12 LFO units, and eight effect units.
#Discodsp ob xd Patch#
It has a quick-category patch browser too. This open-source hybrid subtractive digital synthesizer comes with 2,116 patches (with two scenes) and 614 wavetables, which is quite stunning already. The award-winning Surge is incredibly popular, and some even call it the best free VST synth available.
