MOTÖRMUSIC MEETS THE BLITZ-PUNK SOUNDS OF THE SUPER-SEVENTIES.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the numbered edition (out of 666 copies) of the "Over the Top" 7 inch single by MOTÖRDAMN, released under the UK's Devils Jukebox Records in 2007.
EXTRA INFO: THE DAMNED performing with Lemmy Kilmister of MOTÖRHEAD under the name "THE DOOMED," c. 1978-'79. They later released a single in '79 under the name "MOTÖRDAMN."
"I thought of us more as a punk band than a metal band, we had more in common with THE DAMNED than with JUDAS PRIEST or something like that."
-- LEMMY when asked about MOTÖRHEAD being the only metal band accepted by punks

IRON FIST & THE HORDES FROM HELL -- GIGGING IN THE HOME BASE OF AMEBIX.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on the mighty MOTÖRHEAD, classic line-up, performing live at the Old Granary, Bristol, UK, c. 1979.
^Not a location in the UK that you hear mentioned very often when it comes to past Motörmusic gigs, so, I thought that was worth a mention. Notably, CHAOS UK and DISORDER were also from Bristol. Solid.

MOTÖRMUSIC, MOTÖRMANIA, THE MOTÖRMASTERS -- ALL CROSSING OVER INTO COMIC BOOKS.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on front and back cover art to a comic book turned tour programme, featuring MOTÖRHEAD in a storyline titled "Rock Commando." The comic was reportedly produced specifically for the "Over the Top Heavy Metal Brain Damage Party” at Bingley Hall, Staffordshire, UK, on July 26, 1980. Story & artwork by Klaus Bloom.
OVERVIEW: "By 1980 MOTÖRHEAD had become a massive live attraction, selling out everywhere they played. During the summer the band headlined “The Over the Top Heavy Metal Brain Damage Party” (great title for a rock concert) at Bingley Hall, Staffordshire.
A comic programme, which featured “The Overwhelming MOTÖRHEAD” in “Rock Commando” was produced especially for (reportedly exclusive) distribution at their Bingley Hall concert.
I didn’t attend the gig (at least I don’t think I did, unless perhaps the Heavy Metal Brain Damage really has got to me 🙂 ) but I have a copy of the comic which I must have bought at a later gig, probably at the Mayfair later that year.
The comic was written by Klaus Blum with a section from Alan Burridge of Motorheadbangers, and features a great comic strip adventure with our heroes in a futuristic England and France."

"FUCK PUNK, FUCK METAL, FUCK GENRES, AND FUCK YOU! THIS WAS THE COOLEST BAND EVER."
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on an assorted collection of shots from MOTÖRHEAD's "Ace of Spades" LP photosession (includes press cuttings, tour/promo adverts, programmes, & more!), c. 1980. 📸: Allan Ballard. R.I.P. Motörmasters!
""Ace of Spades" was the album that finally sealed MOTÖRHEAD's reputation as the loudest and heaviest band in the world. Fuck punk, fuck metal, fuck genres, and fuck you! This was the coolest band ever. Vic Maile at the production helm used an expert ear to translate the monstrous live sound and feel of the band to vinyl. Continuing the Western fascination explored sporadically on "BOMBER," Kilmister, Clarke, and Taylor stood on sand dunes (in a Barnet, London sandstone quarry!) dressed as cowboys brandishing bullet belts and wearing snarls that stretched from Texas to Tamworth on the "ACE OF SPADES" sleeve."
-- "Ace of Spades" MOTÖRHEAD CD liner notes, Sanctuary Records reissue, c. 1996, written by Mick Stevenson

MOTÖRIZE YOUR MONDAY WITH THE METAL-PUNK-HEAVY ROCK MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on live shots of classic MOTÖRHEAD during either their "Overkill" and/or "Bomber" tours, c. 1979. 📸: unknown. All photos from the collection of Negative Insight staff.
""Bomber" was the first song I wrote about war," Lemmy said in the “My Life in 15 Snarls” interview. “I was reading Len Deighton’s book, "Bomber," at the time I wrote it. It’s about a bombing raid on Germany when the British hit the wrong town, and it’s what goes on, on the floor and in the air from both sides. It’s a really good book. You should read it.” As for “Over the Top,” which he acknowledged as one of his best songs, he said, “It’s about going nuts. … What do I know about going nuts? I took acid for eight years. I know about going nuts.""

PORTRAITS IN MOTÖRMUSIC -- THE MOTÖRMASTERS' SECOND SLAB OF MOTÖRVINYL IN '79.
Lemmy: Bass guitar, 8-string bass, vocals
"Fast" Eddie Clarke: All guitars, vocals on "Step Down"
"Philthy Animal" Taylor: Drums, percussion, human leg, etc...
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the individual portraits of MOTÖRHEAD featured on the back cover/sleeve art to the band's 1979 "Bomber" LP, released under the UK's Bronze Records.
LP OVERVIEW: "By 1979, MOTÖRHEAD had been together for four years and had amassed a loyal following in both punk and heavy metal circles. After recording an album for United Artists that the label shelved, the band released its eponymous debut LP in 1977, but it was with 1979's "Overkill" that the band hit their stride. The title track landed in the UK Top 40 and, after appearing again on "Top of the Pops," the band returned to the studio that summer with legendary producer Jimmy Miller to record what would become "Bomber." However, the band did not have the opportunity to work up the songs on the road, as they had with their previous album. Joel McIver quotes singer and bassist Lemmy in his book "Overkill: The Untold Story of Motörhead":
"..I wish we'd played the songs onstage first, like we did with the "Overkill" album, if we could've played them for three weeks on the road it would have been less slick.....Listen to the way we play them live and compare that to the album.."
"Bomber" would peak at No. 12 on the UK albums chart, their strongest showing up to that point."

THE MOTÖRMASTERY OF MÖTORMURALS -- "DON'T SWEAT IT, GET IT BACK TO YOU!"
NOTE: Quite definitely my all-time favorite Motörmasters photo-session of all time, and all of them snappily-dressed only makes these shots all the more masterclass. Philthy's trousers are a 100% '70s punk style!
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on a snap of the "Snaggletooth mural" from afar, Harrow Road, Paddington, London, UK, followed by various shots of "Overkill" era MOTÖRHEAD, photographed by Paul Slattery on February 8, 1979 in front of said mural.
Rock in Peace/Rest in Noise, Lemmy, "Philthy," and "Fast" Eddie of "Three Amigos" era MOTÖRHEAD, and may God rest all of their souls forever.
