What do you think that the advertisements in Mario kart indicate for the Mario universe?
I've already talked a little bit about this in my previous post on the lore of the Mario Kart games, but I'd be happy to discuss this specific topic a little more in-depth by going over some highlights of the brands, businesses and sponsors seen throughout the Mario Kart games!
It's likely that given Super Mario Kart was the first tournament, Mario and his friends hadn't amassed enough of a viewership to have sponsors backing the Grand Prix. Mario Kart got its first sponsors in Mario Kart 64 in the form of trackside banners on certain courses.
Most of these sponsors are quite non-specific in what they represent and are associated with a specific character or item, such as Mario Star (Marioro in the Japanese version), Luigi's (Luigip in the Japanese version) or Koopa Air. Mario Star may have originally been a tobacco company, but it appears this has been retconned. Luigi's may have been an oil company, but as of Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart Tour the sponsor merely represents N64 Luigi Raceway. Koopa Air is likely an airline owned or endorsed by Bowser.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nintendo is also a sponsor, which is interesting given they also sponsored Mario and Formula 1 in Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race, as well as the Mario Bros. in Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally before this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems they were advertising the Famicom through sponsoring Mario. Perhaps it was even a "Famicom Racing Team" of sorts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mario can also wear his Mechanic Outfit from Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally in Super Mario Odyssey, where we can see the patches on it feature several brands from the Mario Kart series. This outfit also ends up being depicted in the logo of Mario Motors from Mario Kart 8 onwards. This first appeared in Mario Kart Arcade GP, and it's certainly one of my favourites.
Tumblr media
Mario Motors appears to be a chain of garages that likely builds or repairs vehicles, as we can see two locations in Mario Kart 8's renditions of Wii U Mario Circuit and GCN Yoshi Circuit. In the GCN Yoshi Circuit location several Standard 8 karts and a Yoshi Bike can be seen in the shop. They appear to use Mushroom Piston engines and Fuzzy Battery batteries, also having a pair of fuel pumps outside. Fuzzy Batteries also produce primary (disposable) batteries, as we see in Yoshi's Crafted World.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, Mario can't have all the fun. Wario had to go and make his own company, Wario Motors, which presumably acts as a rival. Wario Motors seemingly built the trucks with Dash Panel ramps on the back that can be seen in courses like Mario Kart 8's rendition of N64 Toad's Turnpike.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Wario, in Mushroom City from Mario Kart: Double Dash!! we can see a store called Wario Pharmacy. Perhaps this is a chain Wario opened after stealing the Megavitamins from Mario in Dr. Mario 64.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mario Work Gear is another brand from Mario Kart 8 that presumably sells dungarees, gloves, etc. like the ones Mario and Luigi wear. Perhaps this company is even the supplier of the clothing we see Mario and Luigi buy from the various shops throughout the Mario & Luigi series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are so many things to say about all of the sponsors in the Mario Kart games, and I've barely scratched the surface here! I'm sure I'll feature them in many more posts in the future. Thank you for your question!

DB Panhard HBR 5
A symbol of a bygone era when a few talented craftsmen could start in the world's greatest events, the manufacturer D.B. has won nearly 1,000 races and can boast of being the French manufacturer with the highest number of entries in the Le Mans 24 Hours to date! Born in 1932 from the meeting of two car racing enthusiasts: Charles Deutsch, a polytechnic engineer and René Bonnet, an ingenious mechanic and mechanic, Les Automobiles Deutsch and Bonnet (D.B.) built profiled racing cars with Citroën mechanics before presenting their first passenger car at the 1950 Paris Motor Show. But it was in 1954 that the idea of building a small French GT - which would thus benefit from the reputation acquired on the circuits - began to make its way. Built on an extremely rigid beam chassis and equipped with a plastic body (1st French car in polyester glass laminate), the HBR 5 coach will be produced until the end of the Deutsch et Bonnet association in 1961. It benefits from the excellent 850cc flat-twin air-cooled 850cc flat-twin from the Panhard Dyna Z, reworked by René Bonnet. The latter has equipped it with special intake manifolds, a more efficient camshaft, reinforced valve springs and a new exhaust system. With a higher compression ratio and a dual-body Zenith carburetor, it develops 58 horsepower compared to 42 in the standard sedan. The HBR5 will also be supported by a more advanced version, the "Super Rallye", with a twin engine pushed to 954 cm3 giving 72 rides. This coach was a great success because he had exceptional roadholding and enduring braking at the time. The HBR5 coach will win many category victories in most major events such as the Tour de France Automobile, Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, Les 24 Heures du Mans, the Monte-Carlo rally and the Liège-Rome-Liège.

MITSUBISHI STARION
Technology that is inextricably linked to the Lancer EX Turbo
Leading early Group A races with advanced supercharging technology
The Japanese car that fought best against Eggenberger's Volvo at the Inter TEC. Starion may have such an image. In the All Japan Touring Car Championship, he showed a perfect run from an early stage.
Stability and reliability are the keys to good results A-car that makes it to the ground safely
In the lineup of Mitsubishi Motors, the model developed in 1982 was the Starion, positioned as a high-end sports coupe that was the successor to the Galant (Lambda) and Lancer Celeste.
This model was introduced in the All Japan Touring Car Championship that began in 1985, but Mitsubishi's motorsports activities were originally focused on rally fields rather than circuit races.
This is clearly evidenced by the A53/55 Galant, the Southern Cross Rally with the AR73 Lancer, and even participation in the WRC, which began in the 1970s. Participation in the long-distance rally raid from Paris to Dakar was also seen as part of these rally activities.
However, for other manufacturers, for similar reasons, the most convincing PR activity for a market that was hungry for performance while surviving emissions regulations was motorsport. It was a result of making a decision and stepping into the circuit race at hand.
In this sense, the Mirage Cup, which started the one-make race, is probably the best example. As a category that conveys the glamorous atmosphere of racing, it was one of the races that attracted attention at the time.
On the other hand, in the touring car race of Group A vehicles, the Starion Turbo, which had a proven track record in the North American continent, was brought in. One of the reasons for this was that until then, Mitsubishi had had little to do with domestic races, and that they could not find a suitable car to participate in the newly-started Group A race.
This is also the case with Nissan's Group C cars, which used the proven mechanics of the IMSA series in the form of "reverse imports."
Well, that Stallion is equipped with a G63B type 3-valve SOHC + turbocharger engine. Mitsubishi had accumulated turbocharging technology with the Lancer EX2000 for WRC. The engine type of the Lancer EX2000 Turbo is the 4G63 type (different from the 4G63 type of 4-valve DOHC used in the Lancer Evolution series later. It is the SOHC 2-valve engine that became the prototype of this), and the basic part is Stallion's
Common with the G63B type. Looking back on these circumstances, Mitsubishi had a certain amount of experience and confidence in the basic mechanisms and content that make up the vehicle.
The first Stallion that appeared in such a background was InterTEC in 1985. After that, Akihiko Nakatani, who became the main driver of the Stallion, was combined with M. Liu and Fumio Mutoh to finish 4th overall. Considering that the 1st and 2nd place was the Volvo 240 Turbo and the 3rd place was the BMW 635CS, it was a good result, what happened to the other Japanese cars?
Then, from 1986, Kunimitsu Takahashi and Akihiko Nakatani teamed up to participate in the All Japan Touring Car Championship series on a regular basis. He finished 5th in Round 1 and 3rd in Round 2, and in Round 3 at Tsukuba, he finally won his long-awaited first victory.
At this time, the opponent was Takao Wada/Aguri Suzuki's Skyline RS Turbo, and although they conceded the series championship, they were always on even terms and won the 2nd place in the series. He had become a presence respected by other entrants.
The following year, 1987, they maintained their first-class competitiveness and got off to a great start with two consecutive wins at the opening of West Japan and West Sendai. After that, he continued to lose races due to trouble, but he managed to win the series ranking 3rd place thanks to his savings in the early stages. He has proven that he is still a first class contender.
In 1988, the Skyline fleet changed to the HR31 type, the Sierra RS500 increased, and the Supra entered the war. The SOHC system engine was already severe, and the chassis performance had reached the stage of review.
In terms of results, the 2nd place in the match against Nishi-Sendai was conspicuous, and the number of cases where other division 1 cars fell behind was increasing.
On the other hand, the wide-body GSR-VR (1987) was launched on the market during this period, and the basic performance was slightly improved, but compared to the trend of rival cars, the progress of evolution was not good. He took small strides and eventually withdrew from Group A racing in 1988.
After that, Mitsubishi's motorsports activities shifted to Group A rally cars with turbo 4WD starting with the Galant VR-4, and after the release of the Lancer Evolution series, it became a WRC top contender until it captured the world title.
Even so, in 1986, when the race began in earnest, the Stallion, whose basic design was already outdated, was able to achieve such a good track record. It's nothing but Taka.
At the 1986 Inter TEC, which was the debut race, it was exciting to see the Stallion running fast and make the Volvo team say, "What is that car?"

I was at the dentist today so obviously I ended up distracting myself thinking about Speed Racer (2008) and ho-boy are you ready for this:
The first two races are circuit races -- circuit in the sense of not only being literally held on a circuitous track, but also being on the circuit of qualifying events leading up to the Grand Prix -- and the narrative structure of the plot for the duration of both races is likewise looped on itself.
The first race at Speed's home track looks backwards in time, intercutting the beats of the present-day race with the depiction of his childhood. The flashbacks culminate with Speed losing his brother to the sport, information provided just in time to give proper emotional weight to present-day Speed's choice to end the race by keeping his brother's track record intact.
When Speed and Royalton have their confrontation about the true heart of racing, the second race at Fuji is intercut into that scene. The scene functionally starts in Royalton's office and ends in the Fuji locker room after the race, and both the entire conversation and race play out simultaneously. This is, of course, the conversation wherein a spurned Royalton guarantees Speed's inevitable DNF, an outcome we see only moments after he announces it.
Both these races are on closed tracks. Both races, as competitions, are tied to the Grand Prix, amd eligibility to compete in it. Both the Racer family tragic history, and Speed's decision to stick with Racer Motors, despite the consequences, are direct effects of first Rex (deliberately) and then Speed (instinctively) standing in defiance of the race fixing and industry stock price manipulation that the Grand Prix actually represents.
Then there's Casa Cristo.
A rally. A point-to-point race. No oversight from the WRL (unless you count hiring mercenaries to axe drivers). The race that haunts the entire Racer family; the race that represents Speed's last-ditch chance to qualify for the Grand Prix, something the Powers That Be have refused him.
This race, unlike the first two, is depicted linearly.
No flashbacks, no looking ahead. Just the race. This is Speed (and Rex) defying all rules, all expectations, racing to protect the future of the sport from the cyclical, cynical, inevitably of matches whose winners are crowned before the flag is even dropped.
(The last race is also on a circuit and also contains intercut flashbacks, but this time you better believe it's on Speed's terms, baby, get that weak shit off his track. You can't stop him because it's not about this race, it's about racing itself, it's about what it means to him and to everyone he cares about; Royalton can try to stop him, try to impose his racing truth over the top of Speed's, but it's too late, Speed's not playing by those rules, never has been, and him just showing up ro race is proof enough that he's already changed the game for good.)

On 2nd May 1963 The Rootes Car Factory opened at Linwood it went on to produce Scotland’s answer to the Mini.
The Hillman Imp enjoyed a brief moment in the sun. However, a mixture of poor management and industrial disputes resulted in a low quality product that was notorious for breaking down.
In 1987, The Proclaimers released Letter From America, a heart-felt lament to the countless industries and communities lost to Scotland in recent generations, Linwood amongst the places mentioned.
Compact models were very much in vogue after the 1956 Suez Crisis, and the Hillman Imp, while never able to match the Mini, sold relatively well - especially in Scotland, where buyers were imbued by the knowledge that it was the first car to be built here in 35 years.
With an 875cc rear-mounted engine tilted at an accessible 45 degree angle, the wee motor could reach 0 to 50 in just under 15 seconds and boasted top speeds approaching 80 miles per hour. Popular variants included the Sunbeam Stiletto, the Californian, the esate-sized Hillman Husky, and the most exquisite of all, the Singer Chamois. Hillman Imps were even favoured by Dunbartonshire Police, who first adopted the car in 1967.
The car was also celebrated for its cutting-edge design principles and quirky features. There were fold-back seats, indicators, stalk controls for the windscreen wipers and the rear window opened. Above all, though, with a launch price of £500, the Imp represented great value for money - or so it first appeared. Thanks to a host of internal design flaws, which included an inadequate cooling system, poor steering, gearbox and clutch problems, faulty chokes and a tendency to leak water, the Hillman Imp developed a reputation for unreliability. Break-downs became a common occurrence for Imp owners, with the car’s main saving grace being that it was generally easy to fix, provided you knew what you were doing.
The Hillman Imp also tasted some success as a racing and rally car. In 1964, a 998cc version of the Imp won the Tulip Rally, while other variants would go on to dominate the British Saloon Car Championships in the early 1970s. In June 1965, racing driver Alan Fraser drove an Imp on the circuit for the first time, with the car making an instant impact. Fraser Imps, with the Saltire painted on to their roofs, became famous throughout the motorsport world and the iconic vehicles still compete in vintage races to this day.
Despite its shortcomings - and there were several - the Hillman Imp would go on to become the most successful car model to ever come out of Scotland. In total, almost half a million cars left the Linwood assembly line, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Rootes from going to the wall. The firm was taken over by Chrysler, with the Imp ceasing production in 1976. Peugeot-Citreon eventually purchased the factory before it closed too in 1981. And with that, car production in Scotland came to an end for good.
An estimated 11,000 people were once directly or indirectly employed due to Linwood and the Hillman Imp and like every iconic car they have their own web page, you can check it out here https://www.imps4ever.info/linwood/linwood.html

The Art of the Slowpoke, or How I Stopped Caring About HP
Tumblr media
This is the Lamborghini SC20. It's a one off, some 750 HP and uh, well no roof. I don't know the name of this style, but it has been a thing with a lot of one-off, or limited run cars. I don't really get it, but to be frank, I don't really hate it either. I do like this car, it's a nice design, the color scheming is rather different (when was the last time you saw a stock blue & white Lambo?), but to be frank, I would never own it. Yeah, I couldn't afford it ever my life, but even if I could, it wouldn't be my first pick of car. Hell, it wouldn't even be the first Lamborghini I'd go for. That'd be the Diablo. But, well, there's still a dozen dozen cars I'd go for first.
Tumblr media
Frankly, it'd be something like this. An AMC Gremlin. A little shitbox American car from the mid-70s with a V8 that barely shits out as much power as a modern Miata. Top speed of 100 when it goes downwind, bodywork with more rust than solid metal, cheap as shit. It's perfect. It's pure, shithole 70's Detroit, when the oil crisis meant "lets make the worst fucking cars imaginable and kill the muscle car."
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, only 5-6 years ago, Italy pushed out this absolute centerfold of a car, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, a car with as much horsepower as an RX8 but enough oomph to still hit 200 mph. In 1968. It's one of those multi-million dollar cars nowadays, a holy grail of ownership that half the examples are probably rotting away in some dickhead's collection. And I absolutely adore this car, don't get me wrong. I'd kill to drive this for a day, even. But I'd still buy a Gremlin first.
Tumblr media
Cool shitboxes really aren't a thing anymore, frankly. Low horsepower, but high fun factor. Japan puts out a lot of cheap, sporty cars, sure, but a lot pale in comparison to their older generations. Would sooner buy a '93 Civic than a '23. But in a fun, almost poetic twist, you have thisun. The Abarth 124 Spider. Well, it's mostly a Miata, but all the fixin's are done up by Abarth. It's still only 165 HP, less than a fucking Kia Soul Turbo, but come on, would you really buy one of those over this? The Miata might've turned from the hairdresser car to the weird cult icon it's become in recent years, but this one stands out from the rest. The Fiata as they call it, sounding 100 HP more aggressive than it is, only able to hit 140 on a good day. And it goes racing. Brings to mind something else, really...
Tumblr media
Yeah, the Ford Escort. A car that started life as a cheap family car, a replacement for the Anglia (The stupid flying car from Harry Potter), turned into a long running icon of Ford's rallying success. It's a tale not unheard of in the sport, the Fiat 131 in the 80's was a similar story, but its an inspiring story. Something so simple, so low-power, under the radar, turning into a motoring icon on the dirt. That is something I just adore. Seeing these cars some would consider lower echelon becoming full-blown powerhouses almost out of nowhere. Something that a lot of cars have kinda lost. Sure, the Focus is a cheap, fun car, but it's been pretty heavily involved with motorsport that it kinda loses its luster.
Tumblr media
Cases like this fucking drift Corolla. Who fucking cares about the Toyota Corolla? It's arguably played second fiddle to the Celica for a long time, but here you have this one that's a part of the Formula Drift circuit, sporting over a thousand horsepower, it's barely even close to the original. But god you have to just love this thing. The engineering behind it, the sheer insanity of it. The gall to take something so basic, so common, and make it a contender in the drift scene. That is some real love for the little guy. A love that has really been left wanting in the modern times.
Tumblr media
In a world where you have active-aero so ridiculously advanced it tilts in 20 different directions at different speeds on a road car, there's not much fun for the little guy. There's a reason that so many slower, yet interesting cars are all 15+ years old. Automakers, owners, hell, most people don't have cars to care about these days. The age of the SUV is upon us. And yeah, some of those are pretty interesting, fast and powerful. But even the 70's and 80's put out more interesting garbage than most modern stuff. Just look at the new Integra. What about that screams "Integra?"
Tumblr media
This was a bunch of rambling that really didn't pay much attention to the topic I wanted to talk about, but maybe the point gets across. Power and luxury don't make a dream car, always. Just spirit, a love for the machine, and maybe just a pinch of personal experience.

F1 Re-Watch 2013: Round 2 - Malaysia
Happy Multi-21 Day to all who celebrate!!
Fun fact about me, I’ve never watched Malaysia 2013 in full. Until today.
For all the newbies who started following me over the winter break, my abridged F1 story is that I grew up watching F1 with my Dad, then stopped when he passed away in 2007, then started watch it again mid-way through 2013 thanks to one of my high school friends. The first race I watched after my hiatus was Spain, then due to the BBC rights deal where they only had half the races live, the next race I saw after that was Canada. Which Seb won, and I felt bad that people were booing him, so I decided to start supporting him as a result.
I was filled in on the whole Multi-21 drama later, and have since seen the highlight reel in my 2013 season review DVD. But in honour of the race’s tenth anniversary, I’m watching the race in full. So, this may or may not be agonising (live blog under a read more to avoid clogging up your dashes!)
Worth adding, I’m not going to discuss in detail who was right or wrong or whatever, this is simply a record of me watching the Great Red Bull Civil War of March 2013. (with snacks to stress eat obvs)
This liveblog is once again brought to you by F1 TV Access, truly one of the best purchases I’ve made all year.
Anyway I’ve put my big girl trousers on and pressed play and THE OLD F1 INTRO I MISS YOU SO. Proper core memory right there.
Also also Sepang is a banging circuit and I miss her :(
It rained half an hour before the race???? oh jeez
Seb on pole, about to go and commit crimes
AHHHH JENSON!!!!
also remember when Checo drove for McLaren??? wild times.
I do really want to re-watch the 2013 season in full since there’s races from the first half of the season I missed, but that’s for a later day today is dedicated to the drama
Helmet watch: Seb’s blue chrome helmet is super pretty
[Formation Lap]: Everyone on inters bc of the aforementioned rain. Malaysia 2013 really was going for the That Bitch title of 2013.
ayyyy Toto sighting
“This should be a cracking motor race” Oh Brundle, if only you knew what was about to unfold
[Start/Lap 1]: Seb keeps P1, Mark into P2 bc Fernando got a little too frisky
oh rip Fernando’s front wing
Jenson into P5. Yeah that feels good.
Fernando re-took P2, I don’t think he knows half his front wing his hanging off.
[Lap 2]: Oop there she breaks.
Ah, not telling your driver they have a broken front wing. Just Ferrari things.
[Lap 3]: Did not notice Lewis getting up into P3 as a result of Fernando’s DNF.
Meanwhile Rosberg and Jenson are having a little fistfight. Nico won P4.
The supposedly fun part of watching this race for the first time is that I know exactly what happens between Seb and Mark, I just have no idea when. It’s like jaws and a jack in the box combined.
oh man I do not miss the old graphics of having the grid on the bottom of the screen, and waiting for your driver to come back up and hoping they were in the same place
[Lap 5]: ROCKY!!!!!!
Rocky team radio, feels good feels organic. (Don’t make me pick a favourite Seb engineer I love them all equally)
oh Kimi’s gone rallying on the apex of one of the corners.
[Lap 6]: Seb pits for mediums! First onto the dry tyres
oh jeez he just lost three places between corners bc of how slippery the track still is
[Lap 7]: RBR: Mark stay out it’s too wet in sector 1!! Meanwhile 5 or 6 cars come into the pits for slicks
Seb up into P7, which becomes P6 as Lewis pits.
dfaeguighush Lewis drove into the McLaren pit box 🤣
I lowkey love it when drivers do that
“Felipe Massa is now the fastest man on track” 2010s F1 intensifies
Live Nicole Scherzinger reaction to Lewis’ pitstop
[Lap 8]: Hiiiiii Bono!!!
Gotta take all the nice crumbs before the race turns round and stabs me
[Lap 10]: oh wow James Vowels was already head of Merc strategy at this point.
[Lap 11]: ANYWAY, after the pitstop shuffle Mark is in P1 on hards, Seb in P2 on Mediums. I’m anxious.
The race has calmed down now it’s dry but I am not calm as I’m now waiting for the jump scare to happen.
[Lap 12]: Meanwhile Lewis is a second faster a lap than Webber. Drama.
Rosberg sets the fastest lap, while munching on popcorn probably.
“They’re telling Webber he will not be challenged from behind by Sebastian” Oh. Oh no. It’s coming.
It’s only Lap 14
*chuckles* I’m in danger
[Lap 15]: Rosberg continuing to set fastest laps. Mostly unbothered.
Mark is 2.2 secs ahead of Seb who’s 2.1 ahead of Lewis.
I’ve also finished my snacks.
[Lap 16]: And Kimi gets past Perez for P9.
Aaaand a Romain Grosjean fastest lap.
[Lap 17]: Still all quiet on the Red Bull front. I’m still anxious.
I’m pretty sure there’s one maybe two more rounds of pit stops to go
Seb’s now 2.5 seconds behind Mark and 2.7 ahead of Lewis.
[Lap 18]: Livery watch: as much as I’m a black Merc apologist, I miss the silver livery with Petronas green sidepods, it’s soooo pretty
Back in the good old days when team could actually have full liveries and there wasn’t all the exposed carbon nonsense we have now :)
[Lap 19]: “Paul needs to establish himself” Don’t worry Brundle he’ll be your colleague at Sky in a few years
[Lap 20]: And Mark pits for mediums.
Imagine telling an F1 fan in 2023 that Mark only did 11 laps on a set of hards at a race in 2013, there certainly is something to be said for Pirelli I’m just not sure what.
[Lap 22]: And Lewis makes his second stop for more mediums. He drove into the proper pit box.
[Lap 23]: Seb pits for hards! He stays in P2.
Still no signs of violence yet.
Meanwhile Jenson is still in P5!!!
“They [McLaren] can see bright skies on the horizon, and challenge Ferrari in China” yeah lol that didn’t happen.
[Lap 24]: “3 second gap, save your tyres” Seb is two seconds behind Mark dfvdsvsgig
[Lap 25]: “If he’s saving his tyres he’s producing a muck quicker lap time with it” Seb’s barely a second behind Mark at this point I’M VERY ANXIOUS
[Lap 26]: The gap between the RBRs is 6 tenths of a second. Mum please pick me up I’m scared.
Meanwhile Lewis is just over a second behind Seb.
Rocky telling Seb to save his tyres, I don’t think he’s listening.
1.8 seconds covering the top 3 cars. oh boy.
[Lap 27]: Seb still 6 tenths behind Mark. *distressed yelling*
If there’s a big gap between laps it’s because I have my hands over my face in distress.
[Lap 28]: Jenson still in P5!!!
“Mark is too slow, get him out of the way” oop there’s Bastard Seb.
Gap now up to 1.4 seconds.
*half race distance klaxon*
Jenson in P5 while all of this is unfolding, an unbothered King.
[Lap 31]: Lewis makes his third and I’m guessing final stop for Mediums
“Look at Nico Rosberg” Must I?
[Lap 32]: Mark now in for his final stop for hards
JENSON IN P2 STOP THE RACE!!!
“The biscuit barrel is not just full of custard creams” Crofty???? That was meant to be an analogy about teams doing different strategies but I really don’t know man.
[Lap 33]: Seb pits for hards. And he’s in P4 behind Lewis now and barely in front of Rosberg.
JENSON’S LEADING!!! STOP! THE! RACE!
[Lap 34]: Lewis already being told to lift and coast to save fuel. oop.
“Button leads” INJECT IT!!!!!
Malaysia 2013 giveth and Malaysian 2013 about to taketh away.
[Lap 35]: And Mark gets past Jenson into turn 2
Hulkenberg and Kimi racing each other coming out of the pitlane svheghaeugh
And Jenson pits. It was very fun while it lasted.
NOOOOOO unsafe release his tyres aren’t properly on 😭
[Lap 36]: Oh yeah Ross Brawn was Merc TP in 2013, I always forget that. Toto joined Merc as his deputy I think before taking over in 2014.
[Lap 38]: “Sebastian Vettel the meat in the Mercedes sandwich” fic writers start taking notes
Meanwhile Hulkenberg and Kimi are still fist fighting over 8th and 9th
[Lap 39]: Seb up into P2.
[Lap 40]: “Sebastian Vettel has just reduced the advantage Mark Webber has by 8 tenths” There’s jaws music playing my head now fwiw.
Niki sighting ❤️
[Lap 41]: Now Rosberg is closing up to Lewis for a double serving of teammate on teammate violence
[Lap 42]: Oh Lewis pits again, that’s a fourth stop
Man if a driver has a four stop race in 2023 they’ve had a shit show but it seems perfectly normal aeogvaheoh
Meanwhile Seb is still catching Mark
[Lap 43]: And Seb also pits again for Medums, as does Rosberg. Seb stays P2 and Rosberg stays P4.
Livery watch: the glossy soft metallic blue with the purple accents is the superior RBR livery change my mind.
[Lap 44]: And Mark pits for hards.
And he barely came out the pits in front of Seb.
ahhhhhhhhh I think we’re in violence territory.
HELP
[Lap 45]: The gap between them is about half a second dvbaheuhs
(For anyone wanting to watch the race back for whatever reasons, the Civil War starts at around 1hr 26mins)
Presidential alert THE MERCS ARE FIGHTIIIIIIIING
and cut to mildly distressed Merc mechanics
Love that the internal Merc drama was completely overshadowed by Seb and Mark, truly no one was doing it like them
[Lap 46]: AH SHIT SEB AND MARK ARE WHEEL TO WHEEL
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Seb into P1. idk if there’s actually been the Multi 21 call yet. bc comms aren’t calling for Seb’s head as of yet.
Man that replay is yeah... violence
[Lap 47]: oop yellow flag, fits the mood perfectly.
Oh it was for Maldonado.
Live Adrian Newey Reaction.
and Live Ross Brawn reaction to the Merc on Merc violence.
[Lap 48]: Wait this race was on Ted’s birthday??? HBD TED!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉
[Lap 49]: Still no Multi-21 name drop... was this something that came out after the race??? bc I’m sure there’s an actual Multi-21 radio message.
“Pastor Maldonado with an attack of the gravel rash” Thanks Crofty.
[Lap 50]: Massa passes Kimi for 6th
Yeah Seb’s 4 secs ahead of Mark now so surely that’s it????
so where’s the drama???
I can’t have zoned out bc comms would have yelled if Seb got past
[Lap 51]: Oh Rosberg asked to get past Lewis and Ross Brawn straight up said no. oof.
[Lap 52]: Yeah comms are dissecting the Merc drama but not Seb and Mark so I think they didn’t hear the Multi-21 radio call aeughaeuhg
Oh I wish that were me
[Lap 54]: Man Nico and Lewis are still nose to tail it’s like the precursor to 2014-16
Was there something in the water at Malaysia or did the racing gods just wake up and choose violence
Ted sounds so sad about Jenson’s mechanical DNF, a whole mood
[Lap 55]: Seb a whole six and a bit seconds ahead of Webber.
Perez pits????
Oh he had a 30 second gap to P10 nvm
Rosberg is still around half a second behind Lewis. Britney be bitching.
[Lap 56]: Will Lewis have the fuel to finish the race though???
[Finish]: SEB WINS. IT’S OVER.
Lewis P3, Rosberg P4. Cut to some eerily silent RBR and Merc pitwalls.
I don’t think Crofty knows about the Multi-21 message he hasn’t said anything about it.
😳
Did I zone out and miss it?????
Yeah Crofty thinks RBR are mad because Mark and Seb nearly took each other out not bc of the Multi-21 call OH BOY
Oop here’s the cool down room.
Bastard Seb is hot. sorry not sorry.
dbshbuhgru Seb and Adrian just chatting tyres. Still no Mark yet.
I’m watching this with very nervous laughter.
“Multi-21 Seb, Multi-21″ OOP THERE IT IS.
There’s so much tension in the cool down room it has its own gravitational pull.
ah the German anthem my beloved.
The Austrian anthem my belothed.
There is not a single smiling driver on that podium this is so awkward aevheugh
Okay there’s one (1) thrilled Merc mechanic, good for him!
“But was he [Seb] told to hold station?” Yeah they didn’t play the Multi-21 radio during the race.
God this is the most awkward champagne spray I’ve ever seen.
The drivers left the podium aeiihgaeghs
Oh they’re back.
Mark flung away his podium cap into the crowd jeeeeez
Tag yourself I’m Brundle trying to fill the conversation with fluff bc he can pick up the awkward tension a mile off
“It was very close wheel to wheel racing” YOU DON’T SAY SEB
Mark meanwhile looks seething.
“So you were surprised when he came passed you” YOU’RE TELLING ME BRUNDLE DIDN’T KNOW UNTIL THE PODIUM INTERVIEW ABOUT THE MULTI-21 CALL????????
Welcome to F1 the drama never stops.
Live Nicole Scherzinger reaction 2
Lewis saying nice things about Nico. That feels weird post-2016.
Well. That happened. ngl it felt less stressful knowing that they seemingly didn’t play the Multi-21 radio call on the global feed. Honestly the actual race itself was pretty dull until the RBR/Merc infighting.
Still I’m going to got for a lie down now.

The tragic incident took place in Dubai on Tuesday. The president - who is one of the Arab world's leading motorsport figures - and his family have requested privacy at this time. Saif Ben Sulayem had followed his father's footsteps into the sport after beginning his career as a racing driver. Week 5 blog log of living on a boat.
Sitting around the table of knowledge.
Saturday the 27th of April:
After our little mishap with the out board motor we had a day of R and R but we did go ashore to get a few supplies. At Russell, there is a large supermarket called '4 Square'. I thought the name was clever as it insinuates 4 square meals a day, where as most people only have 3. They stock most things, a small selection of fresh fruit and veg, some meats, plenty of dairy and a bottle shop with a good selection.
So our routine is to tie up the dinghy at the wharf, and take rubbish ashore and dispose in bins on the main drag. Then off to shop. Now this day we bought a few extra things and we had 3 full bags of groceries. We opt to push the trolley to the wharf and then unload into the boat and I push it back.....as I like to get as much walking in as possible when ashore. Zoom back to the boat, and I have mastered getting off with rope in hand to tie her up and then David hands me the shopping. Only this time as I lent over to get the bags, my reading glasses fell off my T shirt neck....where I wear them so I can read things on labels.
Our second donation to the water gods, the first being David's watch when tying up in Opua Marina, his watch band broke and fell into the abis. So now king Neptune can read small print and tell the time.
Tumblr media
28th April 2024:
Back to Opua Marina today to meet with some friends, do some washing and buy a fishing rod. We have finally mastered getting into the Marina and into a berth safely and without too much stress. We go in on a slack tide, which is one hour either side of a high or low tide. Then there is nothing to push you around except wind and this day was calm and still. Steering with engines' only and not using the wheel is something the harbour master suggested last time and it works well. We got close and my nerves kicked in so I called out to our friend Jerry, in the berth next to ours and he came out to catch a line. So did 2 other friendly neighbours, so I was relieved when we safely tied up and no boats were hurt. Yay!
Tumblr media
Table of knowledge, Opua Cruising club.
This group of fellows are our neighbours on wharf H at the marina. Bryce next to David has a 52ft Fountaine Pajot, then Duke in the yellow shirt has a 38 ft Lagoon, Tom has a 42 ft mono hull and Jerry has an Antares 45. So a wealth of experience and knowledge over dinner and a beer and a wine was so worthwhile. Tom and Jerry, ha ha and their partners and crew, Bryce and his family and Duke are all leaving soon to join a rally to Fiji. We will go next year but they have already helped us with small questions about battery storage and the electrical circuits on the boat. I think the boys get so excited as they all have the same toy, aka a boat, and they can chat and share and know exactly what you are explaining when you talk about an alarm going off, or the windlass not working. As I said, you meet a better type of bum at a marina.
At Burnsco, (same as BCF in Auz), David bought a you-bute fishing rod on special with all the bits and bobs and I got a $50 childrens rod that I was told I could catch a snapper with. That's all I wanted.
Next day we re fuelled at the Marina on a slack tide. It was our first time fuelling up in Mai Tai. She is so big and floaty, and any wind can blow her around. We had the harbour master Mark come and help and just as well as we were blown off the wharf while fuelling. All was OK and he helped pull us in.
4th May 2024: We were off on an adventure to Mosquito Bay where we were told there is an excellent chance of catching a fish. Gary, the owner of the fish and tackle shop in Russell told us to use this bait and you will catch a snapper. So I thought he would produce a small packet of prawns as bait, but no. He handed us 2 very large frozen mullet. Just chop a bit off and put the leathery skin piece on the hook and away you go.
Tumblr media
So we found a beautiful spot on a calm, blue, forever sky day. We passed fairy penguins and lots of sea birds before we baited our hooks and let loose into the bay.
Tumblr media
I never profess to be great at anything although I'm good at somethings and I would not have included fishing as one of my skills. But within 4 minutes of throwing my line in I caught a fish, then another and another. I caught a total of 6 fish on my $50 childrens rod and David caught ZERO. Ha Ha. Because of his injured finger, I un hooked the first 5 as they were Kahawai, which need to be bled before eating and we were told they are very messy. So I threw them all back and they swam away healthy but with a new piercing in their lip. Then I was out to catch a snapper. I said if we don't catch a snapper we would go and we will have sausages for dinner. Well well well. I caught the biggest snapper I have ever seen. 62cm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I said thankyou for your life Sammy snapper and did the scaling, gutting and filleting all on my own. Then I froze half and we had fresh snapper for dinner, that I cooked. WOW talk about a first time day.
With my excitement overflowing, we motored to Army Bay and dropped the anchor and I went for a swim. The water was icy but refreshing after all that fish guts and scales flying everywhere. It was a great day and we really enjoyed the boat. This is what its all about. Finding out that you can do things you never thought you would. The thrill of a first time catch, clean and cook. I'm sure there will be plenty more.
Until next week.

Interview with Masahiro Hasemi who retired from active racing in the JGTC in 2000.
interview
I always want to run a race where I can see who's at the top. Otherwise, there's no point in doing it.
Masahiro Hasemi
Racing driver ●Masahiro Hasemi
There are many competitors
Competition for positions within Nissan
Was tough.
the year of 2000. In this millennium, Masahiro Hasemi announced his retirement from All Japan Championship racing.
Suzuka, where the final round of the All Japan GT Championship was held
-Kit's audience is a history of Japanese motorsports
Walking with history and remaining a top contender to the present day
A generous round of applause to the driver who has played an active role in
I gave you my hand. Hasemi's history in motorsports
The motor sports carrier is exactly the same as Nissan's motor sports history up to the present day. that genius racing
I asked the driver.
“I never thought I would run until I was old.
There wasn't. At the age of 15, he signed a contract with Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
He has been a racing driver for 35 years. When he had a busy vehicle development schedule, he was sometimes running on circuits over 200 days a year. I was actually aiming to become a two-wheel Grand Prix rider, but Honda stopped using Japanese riders, and that's when I saw a four-wheel Grand Prix race at Suzuka.
It was attractive because it had a large audience, was broadcast on TV, and offered a large amount of prize money. The following year, he auditioned and was contracted as a driver for Nissan's second team. However, unlike the first team in Oppama's development section, we belonged to Omori's advertising department and did machine maintenance ourselves along with the mechanics. The first army was able to ride the machines provided. However, we had to do everything ourselves, from machine tuning to settings. engine tuning
I also did bench tests myself. of course,
Someday I will defeat the guys from Oppama.
I was running with that feeling. I'm in charge of Blue Bird, Cedric, and Fairlady. Eventually, when Nissan merged with Prince and the drivers who had been under contract with Prince joined, there were already many competitors and competition for position within Nissan became very difficult (lol).
Eventually, for about two years starting in 1968, Hasemi participated in Grand Prix races in sports cars such as Lola and Porsche as a private activity. Afterwards, he was welcomed back to Nissan's Oppama Works.
``As a manufacturer, we developed parts for people who wanted to race, and we developed machines that would compete in the World Rally Championship, which Nissan was focusing on at the time.Even when we were two-wheelers, we were good at motocross, so we decided to move on to four-wheeled cars. But I was confident that I was faster than anyone else on dirt, and that I wouldn't damage the machine. The 240Z, which took third place in the Monte Carlo Rally, and the 510 and PA10, which were active in the Safari Rally, were all tested by me before they went overseas. The day after racing at the circuit, I raced a rally car in the mountains.
test. The day before, there was a lot of cheering.
However, the only sound on the test course in the mountains is the sound of birds.
I heard it (lol).”
``I'm happy when I'm given a machine that can win and I can race to the best of my ability.''
Hasemi, a contract driver for Nissan in the 1970s formed a private team and showed great success in each category until Nissan resumed its works race hiatus. He actively participated in the Fuji Grand Champion Series and the FJ1300 Series, which were the most popular at the time, and made steady progress and won the championship. He also attracted attention by driving the domestically produced Kojima KE007 in the first F1GP held in Japan in 1976. ``At that time, spot participation in F1 was allowed, and the engines, tires, and machines were all great.
It seemed like it. At that time, I was definitely playing ball.
I was aiming for Jishon. Fuji Speedway
The course is better for me than the F1 drivers.
I was familiar with him, and my rival was M. Andretti.
I thought it was just J. Hunt and N. Lauda. I was able to get Hunt and Andretti's cars in front on schedule, and I was able to use the slipstreams of those two cars to ensure I was able to improve my time. Until the hairpin corner, he was running faster than anyone else. However, as I approached the final corner, I ran off course due to machine trouble. If you can run to the control line, your chances of winning the ball are
I think it was big. Even so, the challenge that made me feel like I was competing against the world was a valuable experience.''
In 1980, Hasemi won an unprecedented four major domestic titles. All Japan F2 Championship All
Japan Formula Pacific Championship//Fujigu
Run Champion Championship/Suzuka F2 Championship
He won the four crowns. Eventually, as Nissan's works racing activities became more active, Hasemi became the main driver for Nissan along with his former Omori junior, Kazuyoshi Hoshino. The race for the Group 5 Super Silhouette car that I had envisioned started, and I drove the Skyline, marking the beginning of an era. Nissan began actively participating in endurance races for Group C cars, and began racing at Le Mans and Daytona. ``When we entered the 24 Hours of Daytona in the United States, it felt like we were competing against a huge nation called America. And we went out to win from the beginning, and we won.We had a machine that could win. It's a great feeling for a driver to race in a race where they can give their best from the start.''
Hasemi is now facing a new challenge in the world.
Participating in rally raids. In the Mongolia Rally, we recorded consecutive victories and another new crown. ``The temperature is 40 degrees Celsius, and we are given only 5 liters of water a day. It's difficult to race through the desert. However, there's a joy to it that you can't experience in other motorsports. It's difficult because you're always aiming for the top and trying to lead your rivals. But I think there's also a sense of fun to it that I haven't been able to experience in previous races. There are also races like this. I started to think that it was a good thing to do.”
Hasemi's spectacular racing career. There is confidence and pride in his face as he reflects on his many victories. And when Hasemi talks about rally raids again, he shows a gentle expression despite the severity.
