⭐LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES⭐
Oscar Wilde famously said that experience is just another name for the mistakes we make. This rings true, as long as we learn from those mistakes. In today's increasingly unpredictable world of constant change, information overload, multiculturalism, and technological disruption, mistakes are inevitable.
Most people dislike making errors, but management expert Tom Peters argues in his book Thriving on Chaos that we can't afford perfectionism. The quickest way to find solutions is through rapid testing, making mistakes, learning, and adjusting. He advocates that we embrace and even celebrate mistakes as opportunities for growth. He thinks we should become "mistake maniacs".
⭐Happy accidents⭐
It's worth remembering that many discoveries and inventions have happened by accident. In the early 1970s, Arthur Fry wanted a bookmark for his church hymnal that wouldn't fall out or damage the pages. His colleague at 3M, Spencer Silver, had developed an adhesive that wasn't strong enough to stick two surfaces together (as planned) but left no residue after removal and allowed items to be repositioned. Fry put some of Silver's adhesive along the edge of a piece of paper. His church hymnal problem was solved, and the Post-it note was invented.
Viagra was originally developed to treat cardio-vascular problems. In testing, it must have become (very) clear that it wasn't just the heart that was affected.
And the famous inventor Thomas Edison made thousands of failed prototypes of his electric light bulb before finally succeeding. When asked why he hadn't given up, he explained that each failure had taught him something he needed to know for the next attempt. Edison was clearly a mistake maniac.
⭐Turn mistakes into experience⭐
1. Accept the mistake
When you make a mistake, admit it as soon as you can first to yourself and then to others. The sooner you accept that a mistake has happened, and take responsibility for it, the sooner you can start learning from it.
2. Analyse and get feedback
Study where you went wrong, so you'll know what to do differently next time. It can help you in identifying solutions to future problems, too. It's helpful to get feedback from trusted colleagues. A mentor can give you advice on how they've managed similar situations.
3. Find the lesson to be learned
Keep a diary. Record your mistake along with your analysis and the feedback you received. Then, make a plan with specific steps to prevent the same mistake from happening again.
Some organizations have online mistake diaries that everyone can contribute to, in which mistakes and their solutions are posted.
4. Check your learning progress
Use a simple learning checklist at regular intervals to help you learn from these experiences.
5. Always be a learner
Develop a learning mindset and be prepared to take some risks. Prioritize where you want to develop, concentrating on one thing at a time. Put time aside for your learning. Share your goals with someone you trust, so they can encourage and support you. A mistake maniac is ultimately a lifelong learner.
⭐Essential phrases⭐
1. Accept the mistake
I'm afraid that was my fault.
My approach to the problem was wrong.
I'm sorry but I messed up there.
2. Analyse and get feedback
Let's see what went wrong in the process.
I think I understand where I made an error.
Where do you think the mistake was made?
3. Find the lesson to be learned
I can see where I need to improve.
I've made an action plan to make sure this doesn't happen again.
I don't intend to make the same mistake twice.
4. Check your learning progress
Have I reached my learning goals?
I carry out a self-check on my progress at regular intervals.
I need to check whether my approach is working.
5. Always be a learner
One step at a time.
Have a look and tell me if
you think these goals are practical.
I've allocated time each week for learning.
⭐My learning checklist⭐
Answer YES or NO:
Have I...
reached the learning goals I wanted to reach by this time?
clarified my learning targets for the next six months?
taken steps to improve how I manage my time for learning?
thought about things I haven't enjoyed doing and/or have not done well and considered how?
I might handle such things in the future?
thought about things I have enjoyed doing and/or have done well?
done anything specific to keep up to date?
concentrated on how to improve in the future?
learned something new about myself?

For the anon who asked if Marina meets her fans at her concerts: YES, I never seen her live but everybody on Tumblr posts photos of when they met Marina - she meets the fans afterwards on the outside of the building and she tends to give autographs and photos to everybody. She seems a sweetheart ;)

Hi Alyssa! I was wondering if that Oh Land song that you posted - Almost Touched - is a recent leak, or just a not very famous song (if so, where does it come from?).
Hi! It's from the soundtrack of a Polish film, The Flying Machine released in November. You can hear it in the trailers: here and here.

How do you feel about this wig story? I personally find this amusing and interesting: after all, Marina played with our perception of identity, wich was what she wanted this whole time with Electra Heart! ;)
To be honest, I don't see it as that much of a big deal. It had to with illusion and stuff, but would she have done it without her hair falling out? Probably not. xD Imo, it doesn't seem like a particularly artistic decision, just one she went with because that's what seemed best. No one should be feeling betrayed or upset over it, though.

Thank you! By the way, do you have any opinion on what Marina wrote on her blog?
I do! I went through basically her entire blog compiling those quotes and goodness, it made me really nostalgic. It makes me really sad that Marina doesn't seem to communicate with her fans as much anymore, but mostly, everything she wrote makes me really think about how EH came about. I feel like on some level, EH is probably about some form of escapism, on top of the obvious concepts. There were definitely some quotes in there where she proclaimed her depression and then said she felt like delving into that bubblegum pink feminine fantasy world ("I have decided I want to be the epitome of fluffy wuffy bimbo-brain world at the mo." "Wish could just be barbie, focus on hair dye and sing about barbie world. Or be Juliana Hatfield and rage out on liquor and neon sweets."). There were also a lot of references to songs she wouldn't be coming out with for a while, as well as blogs about a lot of the defining concepts of EH (illusion, pop, femininity), which I found interesting.
Reading back into the past like that also made me wonder how things with Marina managed to change so much. She spent a lot of time lamenting American pop music; she said she'd never fall into a glamorous image, and that she could never be motivated by illusion and stardom. Electra Heart truly is the antithesis of what Marina used to stand for. And though much of it is tongue-in-cheek, I feel that the album is also very much a not-so-secret dream of hers that she's finally getting to play out, and I'm not sure if she quite cares anymore about the artistic integrity it may or may not lack. From what we can gather, based on interviews and what she wrote, she went from feeling like an outsider to the pop world and hating it, from loving the pop world because she's finally a part of it. I wonder if she'd be feeling as fulfilled with EH if she still didn't feel like she was part of that scene, or if she was only achieving about the same amount of success from EH as TFJ.
Note that I'm not trying to speak for her, by the way; these are all just musings, and I don't want anyone to assume I think I know everything that goes on in her head. It's all just really interesting to me, basically, and these few paragraphs are only about half of my thoughts. xD

Hi! Could you please tell me where did you get your texts of Marina's blog? I've tried to reserch it many times on her oficial website, but none of that shows up (except that passage in wich she said she hated the pop industry).
You have to go on her website, click on "Archetypes," and dig way back.
Regular Marina, non-Archetype blogs start about here.

Have you ever heard what a great tumblr you have? :) Because, serioulsy, this a good space for discussion and sharing. I've seen other Marina and the diamonds confessions Tumblr's, but yours is the most interesting as far as I'm told. You always have a educated point of view and other fans who submit other confessions have good opinions too. Like, this is such a wise community! Marina would certainly be prod to see that her music generates this type of debate, right?
Thank you so much! I really wanted this kind of community and discussion when I created the blog, so it's amazing to have achieved that on some level. I definitely hope Marina would be proud! Her fanbase really is super smart.

You don't have to apologize for the short answer ;) This is what I love about this tumblr: we can openly discuss our feelings about Marina's music. Keep up the great job!
Sorry it took me so long to respond to this, thank you! <>
