Mumbai: Addressing a party workers’ meeting in Mumbai in February, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had said that the Muslim community was coming together with Shiv Sena because their brand of Hindutva was different from BJP’s brand of Hindutva. He had said that our Hindutva works to light the stoves in homes whereas BJP’s Hindutva works to burn houses. The effect of that…

The Confluence of Faith and Politics: An Insight into the Diverse Invitees of the Ram Mandir Inauguration Ceremony
In what is anticipated to be a historic and culturally significant event, the ‘Pran Pratishta’ ceremony of Lord Ram’s idol in Ayodhya has garnered attention not only for its religious importance but also for its diverse and eclectic guest list. Scheduled for January 22, the ceremony marks the inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, and the invitees represent a unique blend of faith, politics, and global representation.
Tumblr media
Over 7,000 individuals have received invitations, ranging from political figures and international guests to ordinary people who have made extraordinary contributions to the Mandir Movement. The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has meticulously curated this list, ensuring inclusivity and diversity.
The international guest list for the event underscores its global significance, with over 100 guests from 53 countries, including the US, the UK, Europe, Australia, and Africa. Among the distinguished invitees are oncologist Bharat Barai and Nokia Bell Labs-CTO fellow Abhay Asthana. Bharat Barai, known for his support of the BJP and efforts to strengthen India-Israel relations, notably lobbied for Narendra Modi’s visa clearance in 2014, overcoming a 10-year visa ban.
The ceremony also exemplifies inclusivity by extending an invitation to Iqbal Ansari, who fought a legal case in support of the Babri Masjid. Despite his past association with the mosque, Ansari has actively supported the construction of the Ram Mandir, symbolizing a collective move towards unity.
Another remarkable inclusion is Mohammed Habib, a Muslim karsevak who participated in the Ram Mandir agitation. His emotional response to the invitation reflects the historic nature of the consecration ceremony and the sense of unity it embodies.
The entertainment industry is well-represented by actors Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia, known for their iconic portrayal of Ram and Sita in the TV serial ‘Ramayan.’ Their presence adds a nostalgic touch, evoking memories of the widely watched show in the late 1980s.
Spiritual leaders, including Dalai Lama, Mata Amritanandamayi, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, and Jaggi Vasudev, will grace the occasion with their presence. Business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Ratan Tata, along with figures from Bollywood and cricket, further diversify the guest list.
However, the event has not been without its share of political complexities. The opposition, particularly the CPM and the Trinamool Congress, faces a dilemma over participation, with concerns about the politicization of religious belief. Even the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has chosen to stay away, labeling it a BJP political rally.
The Congress, a key constituent of the INDIA bloc, grapples with a challenging decision regarding its participation, wary of potential electoral repercussions. Invitations extended to senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh, have added a political dimension to the event.
The meticulously designed invitations, comprising the main invitation card, a ‘Pran Pratishtha’ program card, and a booklet detailing the Ram Janmabhoomi Movement, reflect the elaborate nature of the ceremony. The schedule outlines the commencement of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ puja at 11:30 am on January 22, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the guests at 12:30 pm.
As the nation awaits this historic event with bated breath, the diverse guest list stands as a testament to the inclusivity and cultural richness surrounding the consecration of the Ram Mandir. The ceremony is poised to be a confluence of religious fervor, political significance, and global representation, embodying the essence of a unified India.

Will put burden of around Rs 1,000 cr on govt: Aurangabad MP on name change
Tumblr media
Jul 12, 2022 09:43 IST Aurangabad (Maharashtra) , July 12 (Always First): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MP Imtiaz Jaleel on Monday alleged that the name change plan of Maharashtra's Aurangabad district to Sambhaji Nagar was only intended to change the documents of the government department and will put a burden of Rs 1,000 crore. "Changing the name of Aurangabad will put a burden of around Rs 1,000 crores on the government. This is only to change the documents of the government department. Common people have to go through a burden of several thousand crores," Jaleel, a Lok Sabha MP from Aurangabad said during a press meet. The decision to change the name of Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and another district Osmanabad to Dharashiv was approved by the state cabinet on June 29, a day before the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government fell following the rebellion of Eknath Shinde who later take over as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. However, condemning the former CM Uddhav Thackeray's government's decision to change the name, Samajwadi Party Maharashtra president and MLA Abu Asim Azmi had said that "Be it BJP or MVA - that is walking on crutches - they want to sideline Muslims." Azmi, on the day of big-decision, reminded the big names of the western state (Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi) of his party's support and said that the ruling party sidelined the minorities. "I would like to tell Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi that the government is existing with our support. If Government takes such a step, where will we go?. I would like to tell Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar, Ashok Chavan, and Balasaheb Thorat, what do we do? It's that Muslims are being sidelined. I condemn," he had said. Eknath Shinde's 10-day rebellion against Shiv Sena brought down the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. The political crisis in Maharashtra ended with Shinde taking over as Chief Minister and BJP's Devendra Fadnavis as deputy chief minister. (Always First) Read the full article

Political decision Commission of India has reported the dates for the Assembly Elections of Maharashtra and Haryana.postcard news
The surveying will be held tight October 21st and the checking will be on October 24th.
The reprimand for the two states will be on September 27th, last date of task is October fourth, assessment of decision will be on October fifth and last date for withdrawal of candidature is on October seventh.
In 2014, the Election Commission had declared the dates for Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly Election on September 12 and the outcomes were announced on October 19.
The term of the Maharashtra get together finishes on November 9 and the term of Haryana gathering closes on November 2.
Model irrefutable standards has come into place following disclosure of the dates and no new declarations ought to be possible by the current government.
Sources guarantee that the Bjp will advance fiery association at the grassroot level and the party decisions remains as a chance to do this and the social affair will manage those pioneers who have starting late joined Bjp from different parties.
In both Maharashtra and Haryana states Congress is the standard political enemy of Bjp which stands a supported circumstance for the party refering to the despicable annihilation of Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. In any case, the Maharashtra political decision tries to keep individuals in the edge of their seats as Shiv Sena is an assistant of the Bjp in the state which shares a glow disdain relationship with the get-together.
First time following 25 years BJP and Shiv Sena had tried the decisions self-sufficiently in Maharashtra. Bjp missed the mark regarding the bigger part mark by winning just 122 seats out of 288 seats while Shiv Sena had won 63 seats. A brief timeframe later, both the social affairs limited an affiliation and Devendra Fadnavis was picked as the Chief Minister.
This time the two parties have consented to battle the decisions with equivalent number of seats, following the conversations in February between Home Minister Amit Shah and Shiv Sena Supremo Uddhav Thackeray.
This time Uddhav Thackeray is before long more propitiatory mode not in the smallest degree like in 2014 as he has seen the results of 2019 Lok Sabha Election results.
It is said that Bjp has clarified that after out the seats the parties have won in 2014, the rest of the seats will be dissipated relatively which will leave Shiv Sena with 115 seats. In any case, Thackeray raised an examination conveying that Fadnavis had guaranteed the indistinguishable dissipating of seats in the party races.
Obviously, if the discussions with Shiv Sena fizzle and the last pulls of the interest, Bjp would positively challenge a difficulty in any case the harm to Shiv Sena will be more indisputable and it is a certified help to Bjp.
In any case, while the Bjp-Shiv Sena interest emits an impression of being solid, the Congress is in most perceptibly horrible condition today than it was five years sooner and Sharad Pawar's NCP is somewhat hopeless.
Besides taking a gander at the history, one can't hinder the chance of a second back miracles by the Shiv Sena party.
Unquestionably, we ought to see any motivation behind why the front line Assembly decisions are basic
The unavoidable Assembly races will be a starter of PM Modi;s prominence after 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
The Congress which confronted rout in Lok Sabha Elections will go into reviews of the two states. Rahul Gandhi's acquiescence following the Lok Sabha Elections may affect the Assembly Elections.
Maharashtra is overwhelmed by Marathas at any rate Devendra Fadanavis, a Brahmin was made as the central priest of the state. The reaction of the Marathas on this choice is yet to be known in the inescapable decisions.
First Elections after the invalidation of Article 370 and keeping of Triple Talaq. The excusing of article 370 is a declaration of their course of action and the get-together is imagining positive reaction on this move in the bleeding edge Assembly Elections.
Additionally the races will give a data into what the Muslim ladies feel about the denial on Triple Talaq and BJP's procedures.
Bjp is chipper over its presentation in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections and is piled up with vision as it propels toward the imminent Maharashtra gathering, while Congress is destroyed and the conclusion of float in Congress is amazingly apparent.

‘It will affect Hindus too’: CM Uddhav Thackeray says he won’t allow NRC in Maharashtra - mumbai news
Tumblr media
Taking a strong stand against the National Register of Citizens (NRC), chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said the exercise would affect Hindus and Muslims alike and he would not allow its implementation in Maharashtra.During the interview with Shiv Sena MP and editor of party mouthpiece Saamana, Sanjay Raut, Thackeray, however, backed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), pointing out that it did not take away anyone’s citizenship. “All the citizens will have to prove the citizenship. The law doesn’t differentiate between Hindus and Muslims. Muslim came on the streets and protested. What will you do if the Hindus take the same stand? NRC will question the roots of Hindus like it happened in Assam where of the 19 lakh, 14 lakh Hindus couldn’t prove their citizenship... There are a majority of Hindus in the country and the Hindus will be most hurt by the NRC. Since the NRC hasn’t come, there is no point of protests to oppose or support it,” Thackeray said in the interview published in Saamana on Wednesday. This is the last in the three-part series of CM’s interview to Saamana. The chief minister’s stance to back the CAA is different from allies Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress, but with riders. “The CAA is not a law to remove someone from the country. Union home minister Amit Shah has said that it is to give citizenship. And I agree with it to that extent. It is to give citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring countries and not to remove anyone from the country,” he said. “Why hasn’t the country been told about how many such minorities or Hindus will come from the neighbouring countries? Where will they live after they come here? Will they be given homes under Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY)? What about their livelihood and the education of their children? They will not live in rural areas, but come to urban areas. There are issues of housing, admission of students and employment here. Will the government build homes for them in Kashmir now that section 370 is repealed,” he asked. The state BJP unit welcomed Thackeray’s stand. Maharashtra BJP’s chief spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said, “Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s statements in the interview has made many things clear about the CAA... His party had voted in favour of the CAA in the Lok Sabha. Now the CM must announce his clear support to the CAA. On the NRC, the CM has the same stand as the Central government that there is no plan to introduce NRC in the country.”Breaking his silence for the first time after the Centre unilaterally took over the investigation in the Elgar Parishad case through the National Investigation Agency, Thackeray said the Centre should have taken the state government into confidence before taking over the investigation and the move showed that it did not trust the state police. “I don’t see anything wrong in it, but it is surprising. Nobody denied the Centre the right to investigate. While exercising their right, the Centre should have taken the state into confidence or should have told us what was wrong in the investigation. Does the Centre not have confidence in the state’s investigative agencies? It leads to strained relations between the Centre and state,” Thackeray said. The chief minister said that Pawar had expressed his opinion on a special investigation team (SIT), but even before any decision was taken, the Centre took over the investigation. “Why are they fixing the direction of the investigation? The investigation should be impartial... I look at it impartially. I had spoken to Pawar and he also wanted an impartial probe.”On the criticism that Thackeray and his son Aaditya are both part of the government, the chief minister said that Sena founder Bal Thackeray, who never held any constitutional post, too, was criticised. “I had never thought about this (becoming the chief minister). Aaditya on his own decided to contest; he had been working with passion. If he wishes to work on this, why should I, who took over the CM post unexpectedly, become a roadblock,” he asked. BJP-Shiv Sena script spectacular saffron success
Tumblr media
Mumbai: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena combine marched to a spectacular victory in Maharashtra, leading in or bagging (as of 6 pm) 41 of the state’s 48 Lok Sabha constituencies here on Monday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis termed the success by saying: “Its not just a ‘Modi-wave’, it’s a tsunami.” “There are no differences between us (BJP-Sena).. The people have given us a clear verdict. We shall go among the people and work for development and other issues,” Fadnavis said. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, who warmly welcomed Fadnavis at his home in the evening, attributed the results to the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies. “Our alliance will continue further, even after the upcoming assembly elections in October…” Thackeray assured. To question on his estranged cousin Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray’s famous campaign (“Laav re te video” Play that video), Thackeray declined comment, but said mockingly: “Laav re te fataakde” – ‘burst the crackers’. As per latest trends, the BJP was on way to winning 22 seats and the Shiv Sena 20 seats, of the 25 and 23 seats respectively, they contested, which Fadnavis termed as well within their expectations and which “increased the responsibility thrust by the people on the saffron alliance”. The electoral bloodbath in Maharashtra claimed at least two union ministers – one from the BJP (DESK: Final announcement awaited) and one from Sena – falling to the Congress and NCP respectively candidates respectively. There are two former chief ministers – Ashok Chavan in Nanded and Sushilkumar Shinde in Solapur – both from Congress who were felled by the BJP surge. However, the Congress is still pinning hopes of winning one seat – Chandrapur, while its ally Nationalist Congress Party has bagged four seats so far – Baramati, Raigad, Shirur and Satara, one opposition-supported independent, south Indian film actress Navnit Kaur R. Rana – Amravati. In Aurangabad, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen candidate Imtiyaz Jaleel Syed who was leading with significant margins since morning, suddenly trailed in the evening behind his Shiv Sena rival Chandrakant Ahire, and the ding-dong battle between them continued in each round. NCP President Sharad Pawar said he humbly accepted the peoples’ verdict, while a bewildered MNS chief Raj Thackeray termed the outcome “as beyond rationale”. For the state’s numero uno political clan, the shocking defeat of Parth Ajit Pawar in Maval was first ever tasted by any family member in any elections in the past over five decades. Another former chief minister and President of Maharashtra Swabhimani Party Narayan Rane’s son and former MP Nilesh Rane was trounced by the Sena candidate Vinayak Raut in Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, with the Congress controversial nominee Navinchandra B. Bandivadekar faring a poor third. The country’s commercial capital saw the Congress-NCP dreams crumble once again after 2014 when they lost all the six seats in Mumbai, stunning the recently-appointed city party chief Milind M. Deora. Similary, the much-anticipated Dalit-Muslim unity experiment of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) was totally rejected by the people, with VBA President Prakash Ambedkar – grandson of Architect of Indian Constitution B. R. Ambedkar – losing in both Akola and Solapur seats which he contested, though the AIMIM candidate in Aurangabad held out hopes of a victory. Bouyed by the outcome, a confident BJP Minister Chandrakant Patil even announced that the state assembly elections would be held in mid-October and that month, the BJP-Sena alliance would again rule Maharashtra. Drive out Bangladeshi & Pak Muslim infiltrators: Shiv Sena

Drive out Bangladeshi & Pak Muslim infiltrators: Shiv Sena
MUMBAI: Two days after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray declared his support to the Modi government over eviction of Bangladeshi and Pakistani infiltrators, the Shiv Sena on Saturday said that Muslim infiltrators from these countries should be thrown out of India.
The Sena also took a dig at Raj Thackeray over his ideological shift towards Hindutva saying that dealing with the Hindutva ideology as propagated by V D Savarkar and late party founder Balasaheb Thackeray was not a child’s play.
It also taunted him saying that having two flags showed the confused state of mind.
“The Muslim infiltrators from Pakistan and Bangladesh should be driven out of India. There should be no doubt about that. But it is amusing to see a party changing its flag for it,” the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.
“Secondly, having two flags shows the confused state of mind. Raj Thackeray founded his party 14 years back on the issue of Marathi. But it appears to be turning towards Hindutva now,” it added.
Raj Thackeray on Thursday unveiled his party’s new flag which is saffron in colour and bears the ‘rajmudra’ (royal seal) used during the times of warrior King Shivaji. While addressing a rally later that day, he made it clear to his party workers that the new flag will not be used during elections.
“Dealing with the Hindutva of Savarkar and Balasaheb is not a child’s play. But we are large-hearted enough to welcome those who take a pro-Hindutva stand. Even if the ideology is borrowed, it is pro-Hindutva. Go ahead if you think you can do it,” the Uddhav Thackeray-led party said.
It added that the MNS is unlikely to achieve anything from its new Hindutva stand as Shiv Sena had never shed its saffron colour.
“The Shiv Sena had already done a lot of work on the issue of Marathi. Hence MNS did not get any response from Marathi people. There is a criticism that Raj Thackeray has turned towards Hindutva as BJP wanted it. But MNS is unlikely to achieve anything on this front also as the Shiv Sena has done a lot work on Hindutva across the country,” it added.
“Shiv Sena formed the government in Maharashtra with Congress and NCP. This doesn’t mean that the party has given up on its ideology. More than criticism, there is heartburn.
“BJP can join hands with anybody, including Mehbooba Mufti, but if others take a similar political move, it becomes a sin! Although the ideologies of the three parties (NCP-Sena and Congress) are different, there is a consensus among them that the government will be run for the welfare of the people. What the BJP could not do in five years, the MVA government had achieved in 50 days,” it said.
Hitting out at the MNS chief for stating that the Shiv Sena had changed its colour to become part of the government, the party said such comments show the “political bankruptcy”.
“Those who say this should check the masks and multi- coloured make up on their own faces,” it said.
“BJP changed its colour in 2014 and 2019. Now since Shiv Sena is not going to change despite being in alliance with Congress and NCP,a conspiracy has been hatched to divide the Hindutva votes,” the saffron party alleged.
“Raj Thackeray has now backed the CAA and will take out a march in its support. But a month ago, he had a taken different stand. He had then said that the new law is a move to divert people’s attention from important issues like economic slowdown,” it said.
During his speech on Thursday, Raj Thackeray had defended the CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and also announced that the MNS would take out a protest march on February 9 seeking eviction of illegal migrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], Nov 25 (ANI): Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, while backing Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray's demand for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, said on Sunday that the temple must be constructed only after the Supreme Court pronounces its judgment on the matter. Addressing a press conference here, Athawale said, "I wholeheartedly welcome the demand made by Uddhav Thackeray and his decision to visit Ayodhya. However, the temple should be not constructed in an illegal manner. It is necessary to see what the Supreme Court decides. I am confident that the judgment of the Supreme Court will not go against the construction of Ram temple." Justifying his stance further, Athawale said: "Once the Supreme Court pronounces a positive judgment that will help us to have a discussion with the Muslim clerics to find a way out and build the temple there. The judgment will bring justice to both Hindus and Muslims." The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Shiv Sena on Sunday organized events in Ayodhya, Nagpur, and Bengaluru to muster support for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and mount pressure on the Central government to facilitate the temple's construction, which is currently sub-judice in the Supreme Court. On October 29, the Supreme Court had adjourned the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit till January 2019 to fix the next hearing date in the matter, challenging the Allahabad High Court ruling of 2010. The Allahabad High Court in its 2010 verdict had suggested the division of the disputed land in Ayodhya, one for each of the parties the Nirmohi Akhara, the Sunni Waqf Board and Ram Lalla. It is believed that the Babri Masjid, which was constructed by Mughal emperor Babur in Ayodhya in 1528, was allegedly demolished by Hindu activists on December 6, 1992, who claimed that the mosque was built after demolishing a Ram temple that stood there. The examining will be held tight October 21st and the checking will be on October 24th.
The advice for the two states will be on September 27th, last date of assignment is October fourth, assessment of assurance will be on October fifth and last date for withdrawal of candidature is on October seventh.
In 2014, the Election Commission had uncovered the dates for Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly Election on September 12 and the outcomes were announced on October 19.
The term of the Maharashtra get together finishes on November 9 and the term of Haryana gathering closes on November 2.
Model undeniable rules has come into place following attestation of the dates and no new disclosures ought to be possible by the current government.
Sources guarantee that the Bjp will advance youthful action at the grassroot level and the party decisions remains as a chance to do this and the social event will manage those pioneers who have starting late joined Bjp from different parties.
In both Maharashtra and Haryana states Congress is the standard political enemy of Bjp which stands a supported circumstance for the party refering to the unsavory devastation of Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Nonetheless, the Maharashtra political race tries to keep individuals in the edge of their seats as Shiv Sena is an assistant of the Bjp in the state which shares a fellowship disdain relationship with the party.
First time following 25 years BJP and Shiv Sena had tried the decisions self-rulingly in Maharashtra. Bjp missed the mark as for the greater part mark by winning just 122 seats out of 288 seats while Shiv Sena had won 63 seats. From that point, both the social affairs formed an affiliation and Devendra Fadnavis was picked as the Chief Minister.
This time the two get-togethers have consented to battle the races with equivalent number of seats, following the conversations in February between Home Minister Amit Shah and Shiv Sena Supremo Uddhav Thackeray.
This time Uddhav Thackeray is at present all the additionally alleviating mode dissimilar to in 2014 as he has seen the possible results of 2019 Lok Sabha Election results.
It is said that Bjp has clarified that after out the seats the social events have won in 2014, the rest of the seats will be flowed nearly which will leave Shiv Sena with 115 seats. Regardless, Thackeray referred to an examination conveying that Fadnavis had guaranteed the indistinguishable course of seats in the get-together decisions.
Plainly, if the discussions with Shiv Sena fizzle and the last pulls of the affiliation, Bjp would certainly go up against a misfortune in any case the harm to Shiv Sena will be more perceptible and it is an imperative help to Bjp.
Regardless, while the Bjp-Shiv Sena trick has all the reserves of being solid, the Congress is in most noticeably terrible condition today than it was five years sooner and Sharad Pawar's NCP is genuinely heartbreaking.
Besides taking a gander at the history, one can't hinder the chance of a second back shocks by the Shiv Sena party.
Considering everything, we should perceive any inspiration driving why the bleeding edge Assembly decisions are imperative
The bleeding edge Assembly decisions will be a fundamental of PM Modi;s power after 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
The Congress which confronted rout in Lok Sabha Elections will go into investigations of the two states. Rahul Gandhi's renunciation following the Lok Sabha Elections may affect the Assembly Elections.
Maharashtra is overwhelmed by Marathas yet Devendra Fadanavis, a Brahmin was made as the essential priest of the state. The reaction of the Marathas on this choice is yet to be known in the extraordinary races.
First Elections after the disavowal of Article 370 and prohibiting of Triple Talaq. The excusing of article 370 is a declaration of their game plan and the social gathering is predicting positive reaction on this move in the uncommon Assembly Elections.
Besides the decisions will give a data into what the Muslim ladies feel about the constraint on Triple Talaq and BJP's systems.
Bjp is euphoric over its presentation in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections and is piled up with hopefulness as it pushes toward the inescapable Maharashtra get together, while Congress is destroyed and the estimation of float in Congress is astoundingly undeniable.

Gujarat election: Demonetisation vs Gujrati pride
During the last Assembly election in Gujarat, Narendra Modi was the chief minister; Shankersinh Vaghela was the tallest Congress leader in the State; veteran Patidar leader Keshubhai Patel had rebelled against the Bharatiya Janata Party and floated his own outfit, the Gujarat Parivartan Party; Sonia Gandhi had vigorously campaigned for the Congress; the Congress was in power at the Centre; 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab was hanged; and Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray had passed away.
The BJP led by Modi had registered a resounding victory while the Congress helmed by Vaghela and consisting of a motley of lesser leaders managed just about half the number of seats the winning party got. Keshubhai Patel’s party, contrary to its partvartan promise, could bring no change, ending with a paltry two seats. The so-called KHAM (Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi, Muslim) combine, that had been crafted in the 1980s by Congress leader Madhavsinh Solanki as his party’s vote bank, failed to deliver — as it had on previous occasions in the past decade or so.
The last election prepared the ground for Modi’s elevation to the national stage; the 2017 result could solidify his and his party’s position in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll.
  ×
Now, as the people of Gujarat prepare to vote in a few weeks from now for a new Assembly, much has changed. Modi is the country’s Prime Minister; Vaghela has quit the Congress and is expected to harm his former party’s prospects; Keshubhai Patel has reconciled to being a non-entity in the State’s politics; the Hardik Patel factor has been introduced to lure the Patidar votes away from the BJP; Balasaheb Thackeray’s son and successor Uddhav Thackeray has turned into more of a rival than an ally (which is officially is) of the ruling party; Sonia Gandhi may not campaign extensively owing to her health; Rahul Gandhi, soon to be made Congress president, is at the forefront of his party’s electoral battle; and, the BJP has replaced the Congress at the Centre.
Yet, some things remain the same. Modi in 2017, as in 2012, is the BJP’s mascot and the Congress’s chief enemy and a wall yet to be dented. Like in 2012, Modi is hard selling ‘development’ and Gujarati pride in 2017 as well. Rahul Gandhi is seeking to establish his credentials as a serious and credible politician, something he had attempted in 2012 as well.
The Muslim voters of the State are as wary of the BJP today as they were in 2012, and they have to do with the ruling party’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. Finally, if the Gujarat election in 2012 was important on account of Modi, it is more so in 2017. The last election prepared the ground for Modi’s elevation to the national stage; the 2017 result could solidify his and his party’s position in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll.
The gloves are off on both the sides. Prime Minister Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi have visited Gujarat on several occasions and are expected to keep doing so in the run-up to the election. If Modi has sought to leverage ‘development’, Rahul Gandhi has concentrated on the ‘divisive’ nature of his rival and rubbished the claimed development.
If Modi has sought to leverage ‘development’, Rahul Gandhi has concentrated on the ‘divisive’ nature of his rival and rubbished the claimed development.
  ×
Modi talks of the Congress’s corruption while Rahul Gandhi attacks the BJP for ‘atrocities’ on Scheduled Castes and discrimination against the Muslims. If the BJP brandishes the World Bank’s Doing Business report as a vindication of the Modi regime’s economic policies, the Congress alleges the report was ‘manufactured’ and ‘fixed’. The Congress cautions Gujarat’s voters against social and economic disasters in case they let the BJP return to power, and the BJP warns them of a rude jolt to the development and Gujarati pride if the Congress succeeds.
The Congress believes, and with good reasons of its own, that it has the best chance in two decades to oust the BJP from the State. It may not have been wrong in sensing a level of disaffection among a section of the traditional BJP supporters — the business community and the Patidars, for example. The Congress is seeking to tap into the discontent among traders over disruptions caused by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, while it is hoping to swing the Patel votes its way by holding out the promise of reservations in Government jobs and educational institutions.
With Patidar leader Hardik Patel apparently throwing his weight behind the Congress, the opposition party is upbeat. Add to this, the anger in the Scheduled Caste community following the Una incident last year under the BJP rule. The Congress hopes to exploit this as well, although the Dalit population in the State is too insignificant to make a major overall electoral impact.
The BJP is banking on its strong and decades-long socio-economic connect with the Patidar community to neutralise the Hardik Patel fallout.
  ×
Mindful of the new challenges which have come its way, the BJP has adopted a multi-pronged approach. For one, it has stepped up its focus on development and Gujarati pride — juxtaposing it with the Congress’s ‘indifference’. While dedicating the Sardar Sarovar project to the nation, Modi did not fail to underline what he alleged were obstacles that Congress regimes at the Centre had placed in the early completion of the dam work. In later meetings in the State, he spoke of the delays the Congress-led UPA had effected, in the name of environment protection, in developing coastal Gujarat.
Modi spoke of the Congress’s sidelining of Gujarati pride — freedom fighter, senior Congress leader and independent India’s first Minister for Home Affairs, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — and mentioned the ongoing work on the Statue of Unity that the BJP had undertaken in the Iron Man’s memory. It has been wooing important leaders of the Patidar community to blunt the Hardik Patel impact, and also highlighting Hardik Patel’s proximity to the Congress — a party which it says had consistently betrayed the Patel cause. The BJP is banking on its strong and decades-long socio-economic connect with the Patidar community to neutralise the Hardik Patel fallout.
As campaigning picks up and nominations are filed and confirmed, there will emerge a better understanding at constituency levels on which way the battle is going. Certain issues will gain steam while others may fall by the wayside. The larger picture, going by published opinion polls so far, appears to be in the BJP’s favour. The party is expected to sweep as it did in 2012. These surveys also inform that a majority of the people are unhappy with the GST mess and the effects of demonetisation. And yet, if the BJP still wins, it can only mean one thing — and one that is discouraging to the Congress: People may be unhappy with some of the BJP Government’s decisions, but they will not necessarily vote against the party.

‘Like Jallianwala Bagh’: Uddhav Thackeray on police crackdown on Jamia students - india news
Tumblr media
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has compared the police action against students of Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi to the massacre at 1919 Jallianwala Bagh.“What happened at Jamia Millia Islamia, is like Jallianwala Bagh. Students are like a ‘Yuva bomb’. So we request the central government to not do, what they are doing, with students,” he said, according to news agency ANI.Thackeray is the latest politician to criticise Delhi Police’s action against the Jamia students during Sunday’s protest. The police entered the Jamia university campus after a protest march the students were leading on the streets of Delhi against the new citizenship law turned violent on Sunday. A few policemen were injured in the violence. The cops then entered the university and searched the campus for miscreants - an action which has been widely condemned. The Opposition Congress has led the charge in criticising the police action. The Congress has said that it is a fight to protect the Constitution, which is being “violated and threatened” by the BJP with its “divisive” politics through the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. The Shiv Sena is ruling Maharashtra in partnership with Congress. Many student bodies have come out in support of Jamia students. They shouted slogans against the government, held placards, issued statements of support and organised rallies to oppose the recently enacted Citizenship (Amendment) Act, or CAA, which favours non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on the grounds that they are “persecuted minorities” in those countries. As student anger simmered, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for calm and said no Indian citizen would be affected by the CAA. “This is the time to maintain peace, unity and brotherhood. It is my appeal to everyone to stay away from any sort of rumour mongering and falsehoods,” he added. The alleged police brutality on Sunday evening left many students at Jamia university injured or hospitalised. The campus resembled a war zone with police fighting pitched battles with protesters and firing tear gas shells. Jamia chief proctor Waseem Ahmed Khan has said the police entered the university by force and thrashed staff members and students.Students also said that police barged into the library beat up pupils, dragging them out. Students could be seen coming out of the university campus with their hands raised even as mobs set fire to buses and vandalised public property.Police have denied all reports of assault and claimed that they did not enter the library buildings and assault students. Delhi Police spokesperson Mandeep Singh Randhawa said, “Our personnel entered the campus while chasing the violent protestors who were pelting stones, tube lights, bulbs, bottles on them, to push them back and contain the situation. No police personnel went inside the library or vandalised it. Tear gas shells may have gone inside the library since it was close to the places from where they were being fired.” Read the full article

First rebuttal to PM Modi’s swipe at Oppn is from Sena, says CAB is vote bank politics - india news
Tumblr media
Right ahead of a crucial debate in the Rajya Sabha on the citizenship bill, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday stepped up its attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and accused the government of trying to divide people along religious lines. The Sena also delivered a sharp rebuttal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who told a meeting of BJP lawmakers earlier in the day that some opposition parties were speaking the same language as Pakistan.“This country has a language of its own and the patriotic people of this country don’t need to go to anyone’s school. We have also gone through a lot,” Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut told reporters. The Sena, which has formed the government in Maharashtra along with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, had voted in favour of the citizenship bill in the Lok Sabha. But after leaders from its two coalition partners expressed some discomfort about the Sena’s stand, the party boss and chief minister Uddhav Thackeray indicated a review.Yesterday, Thackeray told reporters that his party will not back the bill in the Rajya Sabha unless the government gives “clarity” on questions the party has raised in the Lok Sabha. The Sena demands that the bill should be extended to cover Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka and insisted that people who become citizens under this law should not get voting rights for 25 years. The two suggestions have not been accepted by the government. The Sena. however, hasn’t indicated if it would vote against the bill that fast-tracks citizenship for non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan or will abstain from voting.Sanjay Raut didn’t end the suspense either.“It will be different (from what it was in the Lok Sabha. I can’t say now what it will translate into,” Raut said.Raut said all that he could say was that the government will have to respond to their queries on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, before they can expect support from his party.Raut also asked the government not to use for vote bank politics. The Sena has three MPs in the Upper house of the Parliament. The Sena leader also slammed the central government over the bill and said that the government is trying to create a divide between Hindus and Muslims. “Lok Sabha numbers are different, the situation in the Rajya Sabha is different. The government has to reply to our queries. Vote bank politics should not be played, its not correct. Don’t attempt to create a Hindu-Muslim divide again. Also there is nothing in this bill for Tamil Hindus of Sri Lanka,” Raut said. Source link Read the full article
