Talking Horses: Mustajeer stands out in £1m Ebor full of quality
The field is packed with fine horses at York but for win purposes, Ger Lyons’s Mustajeer makes most appeal
The SkyBet Ebor, the first £1m handicap to be run on the Flat in Britain, is everything its sponsor could have hoped for in terms of depth and quality, with a rating of 105 required just to get into the 22-strong field and every runner going to post with some hope of claiming the £600,000 first prize.
Many punters will keep an eye on Withhold in the betting as Tony Bloom, his owner, has landed several big gambles in recent seasons but he is nearly two stone higher in the weights since winning the 2017 Cesarewitch and possibly better over further.

Mustajeer landed the first £ 1 million Sky Bet Ebor Handicap in York and now has set his sights on the £ 4.5 million Melbourne Cup on November
The 16-1 shot, hidden by Colin Keane and trained by Ger Lyons, became the fifth Irish-trained winner of the richest flat handicap run in the northern hemisphere in the past 11 years with a three-quarter length gain of 25-1 chance Red Galileo.
Another 25-1 heap of Desert Skyline was half a length back in third place.
Mustajeer won the Ebor on 16-1, and defeated Red Galileo (25-1) with three-quarters of a length
For the Ebor, Australian Bloodstock, which had the Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist in 2014, bought from Mustajeer.
They will now transfer him Down Under to be trained by Kris Read for the Melbourne Cup on November via crack at the Caulfield Cup.
The winning purses and sales now make the 50,000gn paid for the former Hamdan Al Maktoum, a gelding trained by Owen Burrows by co-owner David Spratt.
The Ebor has been a target for Mustajeer since he finished fourth in the 2018 edition.

Spratt said: & # 39; He was a little under the radar, perhaps because he was six years old and not sexy like some other runners.
& # 39; But we have always known that he is a good horse. We told the Australians and I hope that gave them a little confidence to buy it.
& # 39; He had not switched to trips until last year's Ebor. Gary Carroll rode him that day to get the trip, but stepped away from him and said that this is a suitable horse to keep traveling. & # 39;
A horror fall in Chelmsford on Friday left champion jockey souse sylvester with a broken collarbone and fractures in his back.
He could be out for up to six weeks and one of the first rides he missed was the winning ride on Oh So Bright in the Sky Bet City of York Stakes. James Doyle boarded for the ride.
It was the Andrew Balding-trained Colt & # 39; s first run since finishing a hugely credible fourth for Magna Greece in the 2,000 Guineas.
Laurens, who tried to give the winner 7 pounds, was the second to be the last to be executed in Great Britain.
Jockey Rossa Ryan celebrated the biggest winner of his career with a three-quarter victory in the Celebration Mile in Goodwood over Paul Cole-trained Duke Of Hazzard. It was a third consecutive victory for Duke Of Hazzard who previously won the Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
