…says 60% of our raw materials are sourced locally The Managing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr. Jordi Borrut Bel, has declared that Nigerian Breweries Plc is one of the best brewing companies in the Heineken world, which is its parent company. Borrut Bel also pointed out that the company produces its different brand of products locally from 60 per cent locally sourced materials, adding that most of Nigerian Breweries products are packaged 100 percent in Nigeria. He noted that the company was regarded as the best because of its vast footprint and impact in Nigeria and across others regions of the world, enumerating that so far, Nigerian Breweries has about nine breweries, two distributions centers and two molting plants scattered across various parts of Nigeria. In his words:“Nigerian Breweries Plc has a vast footprint, we have breweries in all the regions, but in all the zones in Nigeria, we are in the West, East and other parts of this country.” “We have nine breweries, we have two distribution centers, we have two molting plants, and this is a key advantage because it gives us the capacity, it gives us the flexibility, the closeness to the consumers, and to the market who offer the products that are needed in every parts of this country. We have been investing a lot in the breweries and we are also investing a lot in logistics, in production and in our capabilities.” “Nigerian Breweries is said to be one of the best brewing companies in the Heineken world. I used to work in Burundi and in Burundi, we will always look and send people to Nigeria to learn about the office of brewing, about the technicality of it because it is really a big asset to the company, now that I am joining you guys, I am happy to be here.” Borrut Bel explained that Nigerian Breweries is doing very well with a big marketing portfolio where its various brands are playing critical roles in adding values to its diverse consumers. “Every year, we analyze which of the brands that are performing, which are the brands that are not performing and we take harsh decisions, if we see a brand that is not performing, we decide whether we can reboots it or delist it because every brand needs to play like in a football match, you know the players need to play and for us every brand needs to play a role and have a specific consumer need and provide value to the consumers.” “Having said that, what you can see is our big group of brands, we operate in three categories, in the lager, in the malt and in the stout category. We are leading in two of them, in the lager category, we are a leader in the beer sector, in the malt sector, we are also leading and we are number two in the stout category with Legend Extra Stout and Williams Dark Ale.” Commenting on how the company source for raw materials locally for its products, Borrut Bel said: “We source 60 per cent of our raw materials locally and what we do is that we integral with the farmers and work closely with them to develop better yields. We provide our own technical assistance for these farmers to improve on the yields” “If you look at packaging, 100 percent of our packaging comes from Nigeria, although it is true that for some of the materials like the aluminum cans come from abroad but we source our packaging 100 per cent locally in Nigeria.” Speaking in the same vein, the Corporate Affairs Director, NB Plc, Mrs. Sade Morgan, pointed out that apart from sourcing for its raw materials locally, Nigerian Breweries Plc is affecting a lot of lives with its “Brewing A Better World” Corporal Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
