Do you think that Luke was not going to go to the SAGs and was informed he needed to go for the show to keep s4 buzz going after the preview, ultimatum? He disappeared as we know, was pretty quiet about nominations, not even a congrats for ensemble; until after the show. But the small group was getting very loud about him not possibly going so he tried a few methods to see what worked, Boss (not so great but decent), GQ dinner fans happy alone, GQ Bftas they could "link Nic" and disprove any romance with Antonia so it went very well and so he set to ensure he went and was near her and maybe she even was in on it to rehab the fans for s4? I also don't think she followed Antonia because now they are suddenly friends, no way she didn't speak to her at all when she was posting videos to prove she was there. I think it was also part of "saving" him. While she didn't get really many more followers what she got was the fans to go okay she's not evil and forget why they disliked her so Luke looked better for dating her or whatever they are for the past year. I get her and Luke are linked, but tbh her best bet was where she was going detaching from him, and now she's sucked back in full force after SAGs. Her fanbase was a bit gobsmacked from what I saw with the follow and defending him on TT, where Luke is riding high back in the Bridgerton/Nicola express even back to a dedicated week for him I see on X.

I think Luke was 💯 planning on going to SAGs and no one forced him. It was the start of his redemption tour. He knew that The Sag award is where he could have some viral moments and he got that.

We saw how Luke got so desperate and interrupted Nicola’s interview. How RUDE. If it was anyone else everyone would be judging. THESE INTERVIEWS ARE MAX 4min long, Luke couldn’t wait? He know Nicola gives him clout that is why he is using her. He saw that he is not better than Bridgerton and Colin is all he has so he is milking it.

He prob told Nicola to follow Antonia so it could clean up his image. That is why I call him a Leach he uses Nicola to get attention. He did not give a Fuck about Nicola during papgate. He was so jealous of her attention that he planned it all so he could dim her light.

Luke is in his redemption tour, so he will continue to do little things that the dumb fan girls will be like OMG Luke is amazing.

Nicola is turning a blind eye to Luke’s problematic behavior which i find sad. Is she doing all this because he is a man? If she continues to defend Luke’s every move i feel like she can go down with him.

Other anon stated what their beef with Antonia is, but didn't explain it properly. See, I agree that only snippets of their lives are shared via social media and should not be used a measure of their entire character or personality. However, this girl has purposely antagonized the fandom as well as using Luke for clout by claiming to have been with him in certain instances when she in fact was not such as purposely suggesting that she was attending a wedding with him with a latergram of her getting ready that was from a different time. A company that she modeled for intentionally tagged Luke and Nic for clicks and views when neither one of them were involved. She posts her "dancing" to snippets of songs to troll the fans of Luke she knows don't like her because unfortunately she's received a lot of hate via social media, but hangs in there for the followers she receives every time Luke posted something. She also had a pattern of waiting until Nic posted to post something as well knowing that she'd be talked about online and would have traffic directed to her SM. Antonia has also made up her own fan pages and comments on her own posts using said fan pages to feign an image of popularity that rings so inauthentic that it really turned people off. Not to mention the leaking of Luke's location on purpose and in real time just to brag that she's with him. Waiting until she sees stuff on DM to post something tying her to Luke is also a practice of hers. While in the grand scheme of things, she's not out here punching babies, but she is fraudulent enough that nothing that she does is without calculation and determination to make a spectacle of herself. Fans do have an inflated sense of importance, but she uses their interest in Luke to play games on SM intentionally and some fall victim to playing right along with her by debunking her attempts to troll which is why she does a lot of post then deletes with her IG stories.

Yeah, so the previous Anon I answered is an answer for you too. I know about all this, but it doesn't change my opinion, which is that 90% of what you're saying here is based on assumptions and theories. And rooted in dislike for a woman you don't even know.

My tip for you would be to stop looking at her stuff, block her on sm, then you won't get as angry by her supposed "games". Because hating on her won't change her role (past or present) in Luke's life, or the fact that, actually, she's not an evil mastermind some seem to make her out to be.

In the end, she's not harming you directly. Or Luke, in my opinion.

NAME: Fiona Fox ALIASES: Fi, Queen of Moebius, (+ assortment of pet names from Scourge) SPECIES: Fox (robotically altered from her time captured by Eggman; nothing major but gives her enhanced speed, strength, etc.) AGE: Partner-headcanon dependent ; default is about 26 GENDER: Trans-feminine; probably technically something along the lines of a demigirl but she just calls herself a trans girl PRONOUNS: She/her/hers SEXUALITY: Biromantic bisexual ALLIANCES: Scourge and that's it. FIONA'S main verse assumes displacement in the mostly game-verse adjacent world I pretty much have the rest of my muses set in. The Sega Genesis Wave ultimately wiped out the entire universe and she just happened to be one of the lucky ones who got out of it thanks to the Warp Rings. So she wound up here, in this world, with another chance. And immediately doubled down on going evil. She was ultimately separated from her Moebian "friends" and most notably Scourge in the SGW, but she has resolved and hopes to find him in this world too, not believing he can be put down so easily especially after their bust out of Zone-prison. The SGW displaced her just around the events of Unleashed or so, so she's had a lot of time to adjust to this new world.

At the moment Fiona mostly operates out of (see: rents a shitty studio apartment in) Sunset Heights and works a number of odd jobs just to get by while trying to learn more about the Genesis Portals and track down any leads she can get on Scourge's whereabouts. Some of her jobs include: information broker for GUN, information broker for the Chaotix (yes she double crosses them both regularly to make double the cash), department store worker in the makeup section, casino dealer at Club Rouge (unknowingly to Fiona this is because Rouge wants to keep an eye on her).

Fiona might be separated from Scourge in my main verse but she still considers herself to be in a relationship with him but is up for casual flings and hook ups and the like (altho I won't write anything suggestive due to personal preference). However she considers herself deeply committed and in love with him. Yes she will act like he's a real bona fide king to anyone she gets the chance to talk about him with.

Her past (aka in the Archie-verse) assumes she was left behind in one of Eggman's prisons when Sonic busted everyone else out. Ultimately she managed to escape on her own and teamed up with Nic the Weasel for a time, the two of them acting as bounty hunters. They ended up dating for a time until ultimately they split up due to moral misgivings. Fiona at the time was trying to turn over a new leaf and wanted to join up with the Freedom Fighters; Nic was happy being a bounty hunter, so they split.

Generally, personality-wise, Fiona is mean, rude, a double-crosser, and actively getting worse. She's a little more quiet with her smugness than she is depicted in the comics purely because she's been displaced into a world she has no power over and no friends or social ties. While Fiona is happy being by herself again and doesn't mind fucking around and finding out, she knows by acting as outwardly mean as she did back home she'll just bury a hole for herself in the end. She's over putting on the good girl persona she did when she tried to join the Freedom Fighters, but now she knows how to mitigate her true, cruel personality and her sorrow vindictiveness to get what she wants without being so outwardly mean all the time. Also, she personally hates Sonic, deeply, and will do anything she can to fuck up his life in a background way without putting herself in the spotlight--it hurts even more that this Sonic has no idea what he did to her.

I use icons for Fiona's Destructix outfit but I think her fashion sense does kind of oscillate between her Freedom Fighter fit and her Destructix fit, just depends on the day. Reference images here.

It felt like yesterday when the girl with the golden hair decided to stay on Mobius. She’d been so nervous back then, unsure of her place in the new world surrounding her. Now, two years later, she had more than made a home for herself.

Nobody on Mobius could imagine life without her.

The human gritted her teeth as she inhaled sharply. She nodded her head shakily, clutching her stomach wound a bit tighter as more blood gushed out from her back onto the carpeted floor beneath her figure. She coughed, adding to the bloody mess as Sonic hugged her tighter in his arms. 

“S…So…rry…S-Sonic…I-I-” She coughed again.

He squeezed her closer, large tears sliding down the side of his muzzle and plopping onto her bloodied, gaunt cheeks, “Nonononono…Don’t apologize okay? I-It’s going to be okay…”

“S-So…nic…” Her voice fell weak as she continued to lose blood, a few tears gliding from her eyes as well.

He laid her down on the sofa before him as a chill washed over her, her face going terrifyingly pale. Sonic grabbed the blanket he’d thrown over the backboard only a few hours prior in this world, laying it overtop her to help her maintain some of her lingering warmth. The memory replayed in his mind…

His cold…

Sharah…

The ring…

It was a simpler time, one in which the idea of facing death seemed distant, a bad dream simply lost to time since the battle against the Metarex, an anomaly in his life filled with victory against evil. He never expected that to change, to have to face such a grim situation again. He thought he could handle the flame’s curse. He thought it would simply disappear and the three of them would take down Erazor without a second thought.

How could he have been such an idiot?

That’s what Amy wished for anyway as she made her way along the peaceful countryside. A few flickies chirped joyously overhead, their colorful wings catching the crimson rays of the setting sun beyond the ocean. She inhaled, taking in the salty air as she continued, one foot in front of the other.

Then, after a few moments, she spotted it.

They were, thankfully, exactly as he’d left them. Sonic snagged the colorful gems in his bloodied, gloved hands before racing back over to Eve’s side to check on her in his panic.

No response. Her eyes were closed and her body still…

“Eve! EVE!!! NONONONONO W-WAKE UP!!! DON’T GO TO SLEEP!!!!”

He placed a hand to her cheek, the sensation enough with his yelling to pull her back into the land of the living.

Amy jumped back as the door slammed open with enough force to knock it loose from its hinges. She shielded her eyes as she shrieked, the gale that followed nearly knocking her over in its wake. She paused for a moment before slowly lowering her arms and looking towards the direction of the force, her eyes widening as they fell upon a familiar golden light shooting up into the sky.

“...Sonic?”

Her brow furrowed in worry as she watched him disappear beyond the clouds at record speeds.

“Odd…I wonder what has him in a hurr-”

She turned back towards the opened door, freezing as she did. Slowly but surely, she began to tremble, her ears pinning to the back of her head as a wave of pure terror washed over her.

“B-B-Blood…?”

Amy covered her mouth in horror as she took in the sight. The crimson liquid stained nearly every inch of the Blue Blur’s living room, splattered along the walls as well as the various pieces of furniture. Her eyes fell to the sofa, a lingering pool of blood dripping off the side and onto the equally bloodied floor beneath in a steady rhythm.

She stumbled backwards a few steps as her heart began to race. She gasped a few times in panic, her thoughts racing until…

“W-W-Wait…W-Where’s Eve?”

A small gust of wind whistled in the silence, the girl who’d promised to meet her there nowhere to be seen.

Amy shook her head, stumbling backwards a few more steps.

“D-Don’t…Don’t tell me…”

As if on cue, she then spotted it, a ceramic bowl lying spilled on the floor next to the side table upon which a worn and tattered book lay. 

Cream…she’d mentioned something about Eve visiting and…

Amy turned, racing out the doorway and down the path in a panic. She needed to reach them, to confirm her suspicions and help before the unspeakable happened.

Thankfully, she knew the direction Sonic was headed.

All she needed was a way to reach them.

“TAILS!!!! WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY!!!!”

He gently squeezed back, “Oh, that's easy! That one's Orion, the hunter, alongside Canis, both chasing Lepus, their prey.”

“Oh my…what did Lepus do to deserve that?”

“Nothing, according to ancient lore. Orion simply wanted the game.”

“And Canis?”

“Simply following its master's command.”

“Wow, the drama…”

The two chuckled slightly and nuzzled closer together, never letting go of the other's hand.

“Following close behind them is Hydra, then Horologium…Over there is Taurus, the stubborn one-”

“Sounds just like you, Red.” She gave him a sly smirk.

“Your dedication to this precious gem behind us is completely unparalleled…except maybe your dedication to me.” She blew him a kiss in her typical sassy manner.

‘Red’ rolled his eyes teasingly in response, “Yeah, whatever you say, Bat Girl.” 

The two chuckled warmly once again, looking back up at the stars illuminating the otherwise blackened sky.

“Let's see…Vulpecula…Lupus…Oh! Pisces! That one's a personal favorite of mine.”

“And what's so special about that one?”

“It's a story of two fish, identical in nature except complete polar opposites, one in light and the other in shadow. They would never have existed together if not for the single string of fate that intertwines their destinies, making them one. Each is only half of the other, reflecting the other, always circling, always moving forward…together…”

“...”

“...Whoops! Heh! Heh!” The red echidna nervously rubbed his head, “I guess I got carried away again!”

“No! No…” She squeezed his hand tighter, leaning her head into his shoulder, “That's what I like about you, Knuckles…”

He squeezed back, “Aww, Rouge…” He smiled at her before an abrupt and incredulous look crossed his features, “You still can't have the Master Emerald.”

“Damn, no hesitation this time.” She stuck her tongue out at him childishly, causing the red echidna to roar with a deep and hearty laughter.

“Alright, what's this one about, Mr. Stubborn?”

Knuckles simply rolled his eyes before letting them follow his girlfriend's point towards the sky, “That one is Ara, and that one over there is-”

“KNUCKLES!!!!!”

The stargazing couple nearly jolted out of their skins.

A scream…

The two looked to each other, sitting up with one swift movement.

“I-Is that…”

“HELP!!!!! KNUCKLES!!!!! ROUGE!!!!! ANYONE!!!!!”

“Blue!?”

There was no mistaking it, even with his voice cracking unusually from the strain.

“PLEASE!!!!! SOMEONE HELP!!!!!”

Knuckles would instantly recognize one of his little brothers anywhere. Usually, the Blue Blur's yells were more comical and typically out of a sense of excitement and thrill for whatever danger he was in.

But not this time.

This time was different.

“KNUCKLES PLEASE!!!!!!”

He was practically gasping for air from what Knuckles could tell was sheer panic, pushing to scream anyway out of sheer desperation, regardless of whatever state his vocal chords were in.

The sound was getting closer, though just as loud.

“KNUCKLES!!!!!”

Whatever was happening to him…

This was life or death.

Knuckles sprang up, mind blank, forgetting about the stars, forgetting about Rouge, forgetting the night even existed…

He simply ran towards the screams of his younger brother.

Whatever was happening…

He would be there for him.

An Unnecessarily Detailed Analysis of the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Trailer

(I know I have a couple asks to reply to, but I gotta do this!)

As Tumblr's limited to 10 images per post, I'll be keeping screenshots to that level. Taken by me because I don't know how to make gifs.

This post will be NWH-spoiler free.

First shot: We get voiceovers from both Wong and Stephen with dialogue from the No Way Home trailers about a dangerous spell and the multiverse being a concept "on which we know frightening little". As they speak, a few lit candles on what appears to be the ground (Kamar-Taj perhaps) are blown out by a gust of wind.

Second shot: A cinematographer earns his stripes by catching Stephen's reflection in his broken watch (a gift from Christine from the first film). Possibly CGI, but crossing fingers it's just an amazing shot.

Third shot: Mordo's voiceover says, "Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished" as Stephen walks out of the back alley beside the Sanctum to see New York's streets looking like something out of the Mirror Dimension (only he's not in the Mirror Dimension). Perhaps more importantly, the Cloak has a large rip or a patch?! What monster hurt the Cloak? (I can't decide if the blue is a patch or the back of Stephen's outfit. Thoughts?)

Extra Thoughts: Mordo's likely referring to the Snap and Stephen's part in that with his voiceover. Stephen's V.O. follow up with "It was the only way" supports this, assuming that the trailer is not trying to be misleading with the dialogue they've selected. But you know that's 50/50 with Marvel, hah.

Fourth shot: Stephen is walking up the main staircase in the foyer of the Sanctum. One of the side passages (usually covered up by a tapestry) is now an opening to a beach, only whoever placed the opening there put it way too close to the water and the nice foyer floor is entirely ruined by seawater. Stephen is just as perturbed by the architectural destruction.

Extra Thoughts: This is unlikely to be the Normal Sanctum but rather one of them strung throughout the multiverse. I'm banking on this shot, the previous shot, and the shots with collected detritus and a Not Quite Normal Strange all being the same Sanctum. More on that below.

Fifth shot: Stephen dramatically silhouetted against the Seal of Agamotto window. Possibly evil!Stephen as he lacks Cloak. Possibly an object floating above his hand causing the glow (explained below).

Sixth shot: Stephen looking down something on a New York City street that's obviously experiencing something bad (again). Likely same scene explained further below.

V.O. from Stephen over the last two shots: "But I never meant for any of this to happen."

Seventh shot: Dramatic Wanda red-power-in-hand shot. Dressed in normal clothes.

Eighth shot: Christine Palmer in a wedding dress. Hopefully this means that, as no longer being a love interest of the main character, she won't get killed in some fashion.

Ninth shot: Doctor Stephen Strange looking dapper af in a suit (with a touch of red handkerchief-- maybe transformed Cloak?) and IS THAT DOCTOR NIC WEST? If they don't have an exchange of dialogue in this film about what Stephen's doing these days, I'mma sue. Just a super powerful sorcerer attending a wedding with his old medical colleagues.

Tenth shot: A raven or a crow (I'm no ornithologist) turns and squawks angrily at the camera. Apparently both of them can mean death in some cultures, and the crow's apparently tied to magic as well? Will leave someone with a bit more knowledge of birds to contribute here.

Eleventh shot: The back of America Chavez in what looks like Kamar-Taj, or at least somewhere mystical.

Twelfth shot: Wong holding his hands up with some sort of spell near them, roughed up from battle. Destruction behind him.

Thirteenth shot: One of America Chavez's star-shaped portals that can break through realities and some version of Stephen Strange falling through it.

Fourteenth shot: Marvel "This Movie Is Gonna Make So Much Money" Studios logo. Multiverse-style.

Fifteenth shot: Longest scene in the trailer when Stephen finds Wanda in some sort of orchard and she mistakenly believes that he's there to scold her about Westview, when in reality he's there to ask for her help. His leading question into it: "What do you know about the multiverse?" Her look at him shows that she seems to know something, perhaps via the Darkhold (if you don't know what that is, I recommend watching WandaVision at some point). Also, he looks fine af in this scene.

Sixteenth shot: Stephen, America, and (likely) Wanda open this metal hatch door to a place that definitely isn't natural. Also the Cloak is ripped/patched in this shot! Besides the Cloak, we've got broken pillars somewhere in the sky. On the structure in front of them as they open the door is a pedestal with a white glow. It's possibly the same white glow that we saw in the fifth shot. The room layout is not the same layout as the Eye of Agamotto room from the first Doctor Strange movie.

Seventeenth shot: Mordo, looking fine af with his new dreads and robes, says, "I'm sorry, Stephen."

Eighteenth shot: Stephen looking quite put out over something. Possibly same scene as above.

Mordo's voiceover continues over the next several shots:

Nineteenth shot: A nasty thick fog rolls over Kamar-Taj on an otherwise sunny day. Jeez, I wonder if that's natural. Shot cuts down to Wong and Stephen (both looking dapper af in their new outfits) in the courtyard, quickly realizing that fog usually doesn't work like that.

Twentieth shot: Wanda (also looking, yes, dapper af in her new outfit) sitting cross-legged, floating in a circle of candles. Cinematographer earned more stripes.

Twenty-first shot: Mordo and Stephen (sans Cloak) fighting. But Stephen is handcuffed with some high tech cuffs, which leads a lot of credence to that leaked concept art drawing from Twitter months ago. I won't spoil it here but if you're unaware of it and want to know, send me an ask and I'll reply! Mordo seems to cut them in half by accident at the end of the shot.

Twenty-second shot: Several fireballs bursting through Kamar-Taj. More importantly, I THINK THAT'S FUCKING RINTRAH RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. Large figure, greenish fur, horns. Tell me that's not a green minotaur in Kamar-Taj clothing?! LMAO I am delighted. Wong gets up from the destruction in what appears to be a part of this scene, as well.

Twenty-third shot: In one of my other favorite scenes in the trailer, Stephen creating this sort of spell diagram that probably represents the multiverse and the pathways through it. What I adore about this diagram we see in the movie is that it looks exactly like the representations we have of the brain's neural network (just Google image search it and you'll see what I mean). It's perfect for the former neurosurgeon. Note that the Seal of Agamotto is broken and the room cluttered, so this is in likely an alternate reality version of the Sanctum.

Twenty-fourth shot: America and Wong get to watch Stephen show off his new trick of making Eastern-styled dragons come out of his hands. It's definitely the MCU Stephen. I don't think his hands outright transformed though.

Twenty-fifth shot: Movie audiences are introduced to a rather minuscule showing of Shuma-Gorath, the Marvel Universe's Lovecraftian horror. He tends to vary in size based on power in the comics, so when he's really dangerous, he's about the size of Dormammu's head from the first film, if not bigger. Basically this version still seems pretty weak if we're basing it on size. Probably for the best; his full version could probably consume the planet without issue. Shuma-Gorath throws a bus, and Stephen protects America by cutting said bus in half with magic. Nice. Likely same scene as the sixth shot, or close to it.

Twenty-sixth shot: We see Stephen's hand as he descends a staircase. His beautiful, unblemished, unscarred hand. Hmmmmmmm.

Twenty-seventh shot: MCU Stephen stands across the room from (likely) Unhinged, Possibly Evil Stephen. Likely the same Sanctum as the one with the broken Agamotto window due to the presence of the harp which is not something the original relic room has (I believe). Floor pattern's the same as well.

V.O. for the above scenes from nineteen to twenty-seven, via Mordo: "I hope you understand the greatest threat to our universe is you."

Twenty-eighth shot: We see Unhinged, Possibly Evil Stephen in all his full glory. He says, "Things just got out of hand" with a rather maniacal grin.

Twenty-ninth shot: MCU Stephen makes that slow squint "WTF" expression. You know the one.

I know I should be posting the celebrating-Thatcher’s-demise playlist today, but that one isn’t ready, so you get a miserable mourning one instead whoops

1) This is from The Ninth Wave, the B-side of Hounds of Love about a woman lost at sea. It's her pov on her relatives waiting for her to return - so the reverse of Francis imagining Sibylla and Richard are dead, but Sibylla wants to see what he's like imaging Richard's dead, and in terms of the misunderstandings and not-hearing-each-others it seems fitting for the fmaily at this point. 2) A folk song about a woman who had an affair with some devil (also known as The Demon Lover), is later persuaded by him to leave her husband and child and then drowns at sea when he deliberately sinks their ship. Not that I think any of this applies to Sibylla, but atmospherically I think Francis, who is not currently certain of his past, would find it fittingly painful. 3) Don't @ me I couldn't find a transcript of the lyrics and my French isn't good enough to know that it fits exactly, but it sounds good for the kind of crooner FRC was, for the soundtrack to Sibylla's past in France, and obviously La Manche is the French name for the English Channel. 4) A sacred harp song re-introduced to the UK by the Watersons, it's just a great mourning song. 5) If the lyrics to this seem unfair to Francis, Sibylla and FRC, or even overly kind on Gavin, then just think about how much misunderstanding there is between everyone, how much distrust there is and how much isn't being said that needs to be said at this point of the story. 6) Ok, this is one modern folk song I allowed myself because I thought it fitted Francis' fears of what he is to Sibylla so well. Plus imagine the way this could be interpreted from Sibylla's pov, knowing who the words are actually referring to: 'Your father says you're not his own nor any child of man's, / But I think you have your father's smile, your father's gentle hands, / And I pray that you will love me like your father used to do, / So hush awhile, my darling, so I might know it's you.' 7) It's really more of a GoK song, but that's emblemetic enough of the tangled Crawford relationships anyway: 'As I came in by Fiddich side on a May morning / Auchindoon was in a blaze an hour before the dawning / Crawing, crawing, for all your crowse crawing / You've burnt your crops and tint your wings / An hour before the dawning.' 8) Drowned lover appears to woman in a dream. Another great angsty ballad. 9) Perhaps on the surface more of a 'Richard about Francis' song, but given the reference to the hand at the bridle when Francis suddenly realises his brother's not dead, it might also be a bit about Francis' idea of Richard when he was young. Plus 'So far / aross a wild and windy sea / So far / That our voices are / Divided by an ocean / An ocean.' 10) Again, technically written as a song for a lover, but I think it still fits Francis' feelings about home and family and his difficult relationship with Scotland and Midculter. 11) Bit on the nose? Mm. 'Richard got married to a figure skater And he bought her a dishwasher and a coffee percolator And he drinks at home now most nights with the TV on And all the house lights left up bright. I'm gonna blow this damn candle out I don't want nobody comin' over to my table I got nothing to talk to anybody about All good dreamers pass this way someday Hidin' behind bottles in dark cafés Dark cafés, only a dark cocoon Before I get my gorgeous wings and fly away Only a phase, these dark café days.' 12) It's another banging mourning song from the canon of twentieth century folk revival! 13) The story is of a convict washing up from a shipwreck and being pardoned - you'd imagine Francis would see himself in it to an extent, while also thinking he deserves neither life nor pardon. 14) Another slight anachronism, because Katherine mentioned another recent version (by False Lights), and this is the arrangement that inspired that one. The song, however, is a Tennyson poem, and it had been set to choral music before, so it would sort of be known to Francis. 15) Again, big French crooner from Sibylla's glamour days, imagine her recuperating with this playing in the background as Francis steps into the room to see she's alive, while thinking Richard isn't...

The Bear Roots of Burbank Cartoons: A Lookback at Boo Boo Runs Wild

5 years ago, [adult swim] aired the greatest of all Yogi Bear / Ranger Smith episodes, “Boo Boo Runs Wild” (1999), on August 13th, 2016 A.D. at 4 AM.

Look and see, kids, how America’s not-so-average bear connects in the wide world of animation that produces many of the cartoons that you love in Burbank, Canada and more!

As and after I saw it, I knew that I found the greatest band of cartoonists out there, and that greatest band of cartoonists out there was none other than...

Spümcø, whose many creatives would end up working at Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Cartoon Network Studios, and many other popular Burbank and Canadian studios that made the cartoons I grew up and beyond watching.

Obviously, the character design is rather different, but they still look like the right characters, even with the slight color changes...

and with their items of human attire out. Ranger Smith, on the other hand...

Ranger Smith is wildly off model, and probably on purpose, throughout the picture.

Only in one scene appears he with a more familiar face.

Now, I didn’t have to watch Wild Kratts (which, by the way, features 6 Spümcø Canada creatives) to learn that “there’s only one thing a bear likes more than raiding a pic-a-nic basket.”

As the title suggests, Boo Boo loses his temper when Ranger Smith restricts him from tearing bark and decides to go primal in returning to his bear roots: “From this day forth, I’ll not dress in the man’s attire, and I’ll not speak in the man’s tongue. From now on, it’s going on all fours and grunting for me!”

Boo Boo wreaks havoc for the trees with his natural bear roots.

Unlike past episodes, however, the artists went far wilder than the usual Hanna-Barbera cartoon, making the trees alive and screaming in pain! OH, WHAT TOURTUE! Not to mention how I love Boo Boo’s goofy/manical laugh, a beautiful product of John Kricfalusi’s voice (Yes; I know that he was a formerly abusive megalomaniac who still has ADHD, but God knows what cartoons would be like today—at least those produced in Burbank and Canada—if it wasn’t for the many layout artists that he led).

Also unnatural to a Hanna-Barbera cartoon is the extreme levels of slapstick, wackiness and graphic nature of cartoons since such shows as Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, Beany and Cecil’s DiC reboot, and The Ren & Stimpy Show. Boo Boo and now Cindy Bear are licking away at all of the honey... and bees... with insanely long tongues (may be that they’re sloth bears?). This left Yogi Bear practically speechless.

The mere sequence of dialogue between Yogi and Ranger Smith, discussing what to do about Boo Boo, involved HEAVY work in the storyboards by Vincent Waller. So many expressions that they couldn’t fit in each of Spümcø’s 3-panel storyboard pages!

As you see, in addition to Vincent Waller’s storyboards, John K. added extra poses (storyboard revisions more or less, but definitely layout poses) under the respective scenes. That way, Vincent could focus on telling and writing the story in rough pictures. (source of storyboards)

I also love the sound design. While it’s definitely true to a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, John K. and the late Henry Porch were very creative with some weird, dated and out-of-context sound effects, similar to what they and Horta Editorial did on The Ren & Stimpy Show in the first two seasons. The production music (probably APM and Capitol Records) also gave it a vintage, nostalgic feel.

Ultimately, with the aforementioned abusive megalomaniac aside, Spümcø undoubtedly harbored some of the finest animators and artists ever. Such names as Bob Jaques (Spongebob Squarepants, Buy One, Get One Free*, The Baby Huey Show), Ben Jones (DC Super Hero Girls, Cats Don’t Dance, Teen Titans GO!), Vincent Waller (Spongebob Squarepants, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog), Albert Lozano (Inside Out, A Kitty Bobo Show), Todd White (Spongebob Squarepants), Eric Koenig (Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Madagascar, Cats Don’t Dance, The Simpsons, and The Tigger Movie), and Erik Wiese (Samurai Jack, The Mighty B!) are among the hundreds of creatives who ended up almost everywhere working in Burbank and Canadian animation.

Other names on the Spümcø team that one might recognize include Gabe Swarr (Dexter’s Laboratory, The Buzz on Maggie, Foe Paws, El Tigre), and even background artists such as Richard Daskas ( @rdaskas​ - Samurai Jack, Time Squad, Sym-Bionic Titan, Batman Beyond), Richard Ziehler-Martin (Tiny Toon Adventures, The Wacky World of Tex Avery), Hector Martinez (Tom and Jerry: Robin Hood and His Merry Mouse, Timone and Pumba, Captain N, Evil Con Carne, Dora the Explorer), and Tony Mora (MAD, Teen Titans GO! to the Movies, Pickle and Peanut). I mean: in short, these artists worked for Warner Bros. Animation, Disney Television Animation and Walt Disney Feature Animation, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network Studios!

Spümcø’s production assistants on Boo Boo Runs Wild feature Matt Danner —a fantastic character designer, storyboard artists, director and producer, whose credits range from (Johnny Test and The Legend of the Three Caballeros to Team Hot Wheels and The Looney Tunes Show—and Cartoon Brew editor Amid Amidi. Brian A. Miller was an executive in charge of production, not for but probably in association with Cartoon Network.

Spümcø’s creatives, as I said, are all over the place in Burbank animation. Other shows that still air on @adultswim​ have ex-Spümcø creatives. For example: today’s re-run of Samurai Jack EPISODE XVI features Chris Reccardi (The Powerpuff Girls, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy)...

Scott Wills (Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat)...

Lynne Naylor-Reccardi (The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show, Wander Over Yonder) and Jim Smith (YooHoo and Friends, Tom and Jerry Tales, McGee and Me)...

and Leticia Lacy (TRON: Uprising, Sym-Bionic Titan, Wander Over Yonder, Korgoth of Barbaria).

Even outside of Cartoon Network Studios, where most ex-Spümcø artists end up, @cartoonnetwork​’s The Amazing World of Gumball, from Cartoon Network Studios Europe (AKA Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe), features ex-Spümcø artist Charlie Bean (The Powerpuff Girls, Robotboy, Batman: The Animated Series, Timone and Pumba, Creature Crunch) on The Cartoon Network Europe Development Team.

One of Cartoon Network’s biggest and craziest hits, Teen Titans GO!, also features such ex-Spümcø artists as storyboard artist, director and producer Luke Cormican (The Buzz on Maggie, Brandy and Mr. Whiskers, Brickleberry, The Replacements, El Tigre)...

Gerald de Jesus (The Book of Life, The Ricky Gervais Show, TMNT)...

and Eric J. Pringle (Fosters’ Home for Imaginary Friends, The Problem Solverz). What wacky cartoon filled with live-action images, unpredictable visual gags and extreme slapstick humor wouldn’t?

Relatively, you could even tune in to Nickelodeon, the original home of Spümcø’s ground-breaking hit, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and see names of creatives associated with Spümcø and Ren & Stimpy, such as Zeus Cervas (Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Spongebob Squarepants, Clarence) on today’s episode of The Patrick Star Show...

or even Gabe Del Valle (Mighty Magiswords, Spongebob Squarepants) on today’s episode of Middlemost Post!

Overall, Boo Boo Runs Wild introduced me to the cartoon studio whose works I took for granted and on which I was missing out all of my life, and I strongly encourage this generation to support this Yogi Bear / Ranger Smith episode, which you can watch RIGHT NOW on [adult swim]’s site. It was officially on their YouTube channel, but it was removed for unknown reasons. This short never even got a DVD or VHS release!

The last televised airing of Boo Boo Runs Wild on [adult swim] so far was January 6th, 2019 A.D., but Spümcø also produced “A Day in the Life of Ranger Smith” and “Boo Boo and the Man” (based on true events in the life of John Kricfalsui) for Cartoon Network.

As I come to a close, it’s worth noting that layout Ed Benedict, an animator and artist whose credits go all of the way back to the 1930s with Disney and continued with MGM and Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network Studios, originally worked on Yogi Bear episode “Yogi’s Birthday Party” as a layout artist, and reprised that very role for “Boo Boo Runs Wild”. What a legacy the animators and artists of this episode leave!

Always will I remember how Spümcø, whose legacy connects to my Cartoon Network-infused childhood, blessed me and graced me that fateful day, August 13th, 2016 A.D., with the ultimate example of the fine art of cartooning that is the Yogi Bear / Ranger Smith episode “Boo Boo Runs Wild”. I was living in the moment, and I thank God for it.

“For years they have [been] asking me to make new Yogi cartoons, but I can’t even get a half a million [dollars] to make one, probably because I actually like the characters, but 60-70 million $ to make walking corpses is economical.” - John Kricfalsui on Yogi Bear (2010)

Another Ranger Smith, Boo Boo or Yogi Bear cartoon from the people behind The Ren & Stimpy Show is highly unlikely today, due to the abuse and harassment of John K. angering the world to the point of hating and condemning the man who helped to shape not only Cartoon Network but also television animation—and animation as a whole—with an undeniable legacy of artists and animators who deserve way more credit and respect than we perhaps thought of giving as kids.

Sweet Christmas! That took me by surprise!

Harley kissing Jonah Hex, that was really sweet, and gods awful creepy, and kinda gross,  after the exchange, and some thought…

This is it, Gentle Readers… the Beginning of the End of the Beginning of… Oh, crap, now I’m lost… This is where the story starts rockin’!

The Gang’s all together, and the Black Lantern Bat has determined what they need to do.

The plan? Split up, naturally. That AL-ways works…

When we left them in DM #3, the Lanterns are protecting the Home Base, and taking out the Crisis Energy Antennae on the Earths left in the known Universes, The Flashes are off and running through the Speed Force, trying to find Metron, and stay ahead of the Bathattan who Laughs, while the Trinity (Superman / Antilife, Black Lantern Batman and  Warden Wonder Woman) along with Swamp Thing, Harley, Hex and Jarro, head for Castle Bat, to gain access to the Crisis Earths, where the Crisis Energy is being harvested for Perpetua.

**WHEW!**

Getting into the Castle involves getting past an army of Dark Knights… and we have a bunch of real winners here! 

Bat Monday - Salomon Grundy in Bat ears, I could have busted a gut laughing, until I thought about what kind of weapon a zombie with Batman’s training could be, and shivered…

Kull, the daughter of Batman and Wonder Woman, corrupted by the Dark Universe…

Ark, the living embodiment of Arkham, with all of the knowledge and abilities of ALL her worst inmates…

Chiroptor, the amalgam of Batman and Chemo (Great Elder Gods!!)… 

And the Pearl, Martha Wayne, in the equivalent of HellBat Armor, complete with her iconic pearl necklace.

This is a real mindscrew for Batman, and the panels depict it, most intently.

One nice thing about Scott Snyder… he is consistent about tying up loose ends. Once we are in Castle Bat, we find out what happened to Barbatos, the Big Bad from Dark Nights: Metal. Not that we were actually wondering, since we got Perpetual, and the Batman Who Laughs, but, like I said, it ties up the package nicely.

Then, we are introduced to the character I have been most happily waiting for… the Robin King, and his Utility Belt of Death!

Gentle Readers, this is the story we have been waiting for, the chapter which tells us what the Heroes Plan of Action is, and where the story has been going, for over 40 years. You see, the opening page of this book tells us where this story began… with Marv Wolfman and George Perez, and Crisis on Infinite Earths!

Not to spoil too much, but Crisis, Infinite Crisis, and Final Crisis, ]well… they have all played a part in getting us to this story. It seems, the “Crisis Energy’ has fed Perpetua while she was trapped within the Source Wall, and, now, she wants it all, so she can recreate the Universes in her image.

Great job, if you can get it…

I can’t say enough good things about this story and artwork, as Snyder and Manapul have put together a really tight, hard hitting bottle / lead story, bringing us to the next step in the saga… 

Jeebus on a popsicle stick, I hope no one lets me down… that will hurt!

Death Metal: Multiverse’s End #1

Once upon a time, about a million, bazillion years ago in cranky fat man years, somewhere around 1982, Roy Thomas and Scott Shaw! brought Earth-C into the DC Multiverse, the earth of anthropomorphic animals… yes, they brought Super-Hero Cartoon Animals to the Super Hero Universe.

Our introduction to this Earth was Rodney Rabbit, a comics writing and drawing hare, who created the Just’a Lotta Animals comic by day, and was Captain Carrot, a Superman-esque rabbit, who got his powers from super charged carrots, when danger struck.

But, I digress… because I got really excited!

So, we have teams on the 6 Earths, each Earth holding a tuning fork, focusing the psychic pain energy of the population to Perpetual, powering her attempts to recreate the Multiverse in her image. The Earths in play, Earth - 3 (Crime Syndicate), Earth - X (Nazi Earth), Earth - 29 (Bizarroworld), Earth - 43 (Blood League World) and Earth - 50 (Justice Lords Earth) are all worlds of pain and suffering.

Their energy is the right flavor for destroying, and creating.

The heroes, organized and led by the Green Lanterns of Sector 2814 (Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz), are working to take down the Antennae before the energy can be fed to Perpetual to power her Cosmic Undoing. 

So, teamed with the Lanterns, we have Hawkgirl, Kid Flash (Earth-22), President Superman (Earth-23), Wonder Woman (Earth-6) and Captain Carrot, all hellbent on stopping the respective Antennae.

The problem… Each Earth’s inhabitants have been laced into the antennae, to directly feed the psychic energy to it..since the energy is effectively terror, well, what better way to induce some? Of course, this isn’t the only problem to be contended with…

Leave it to James Tynion IV to come up with a way to make a villain creepier than the Batman Who Laughs… How, you ask? Well, take the true polar opposite of Batman, and make him realize HE IS what Giggles says he is, and you have an interesting new ballgame.

You see, while the Batman who Laughs is the Ultimate CORRUPTED Batman, Owlman is the Anthesis of Batman, the purest EVIL to the Batman’s GOOD. And he plans to make sure that he continues to be the True Opposite…

Gedeon’s artwork is rough, but considering the story being told, and the pain portrayed by the characters, it fits, perfectly. Some times, I see Joe Staton and Nic Cuti in these pages, a little cartoony, but that’s not a complaint… The story concentrates a bunch on Guy Gardner and Cap, so, it seems to fit (and the art is reminiscent of the ‘A Guy and his G’Nort’ storyline from 1991). 

All in all, a very good story, and a fantastic use of a truly underused treasure.

Speed Metal #1

And the levels of snark from the Darkest Knight have reached Epic Levels!

The first three pages of this issue give us a rehash of everything  having to do with Wally West, since the beginning of the Rebirth Era, from Barry pulling Wally out of the Speed Force, to Barry and Batman finding the Comedian’s Smiley Face button embedded in the Batcave wall, to the events of Heroes in Crisis and Flash Forward.

The action picks up as Barry, Wally, Wallace and Jay leave the Batman’s Vault, in search of Metron’s Chair, with the Darkest Knight hot on their trails. 

In the Speed Force.

With the Darkest Knight’s presence corrupting the Speed Force, Barry and Wally bickering the entire time, I’m reminded of why I hated the post Crisis Flash… Wally wasn’t mature enough to wear the mantle of Barry’s fame.

Sure, he had the speed, he was even faster than Barry, but he was still the same jealous little kid inside, the one who needed to be patted on the head, the one who couldn’t get on with the Titans, even though he was probably the most powerful of them. 

He was just an immature kid, and here, Williamson dragged that all into the foreground once again.

All so Wally West, the King of the Redemption Arc, could have another Redemption Arc…

Sorry, that did me in. 

The rest of the story is pretty good… the art is wonderful, the Jay / Barry / Wallace interplay is really kinda neat, and all the Black Flashes… well, I’m a sucker for Death icons, so a mass of Death Speedsters, well that’s fun with a CAPITAL F!

But, did we need another Wally gets to whine story?

Sorry, this wasn’t the finest arc of the Death Metal Saga.

Death Metal #4 ‘Shot In The Dark’

And, that Gentle Readers, is the crux of one of those puzzles about this series… Why don’t we ever see more twisted versions of the Villains who infest Earth Prime?

The Robin King (this is the character who rates SECOND on my memorable Characters list, especially with his own One-Shot—— Who’s First?? Time, Gentle Ones in time…) puts the explanation out there, and it is very simple.

And worth the read… But, I digress.

So, Issue 4 picks up with Sergeant Rock describing what has been happening on Earth - Prime, and we finally get to see who has been carrying him around… AMBUSH BUG! Yes, the character that made the Fourth Wall more transparent than an open Anderson window has been carrying Rock around as his own personal narrator…

Which, if you know the Bug, is a joke unto itself.

So, here we go, the ride is picking up steam, and we are now following 6, count’em SIX, separate story lines. A guy could get whiplash, or Bullwhip or some other third rate character… But, I digress.

We have the Trinity storyline, the SpeedMetal storyline, Multiverse’s End, and the Lantern Storyline from the last issue, the Justice League / Legion of Doom story… am I forgetting anything? 

Oh, and of course, the Robin King.

Where to start with this… I guess the simplest place to start is the artwork.

Greg Capullo’s pencils are absolutely wonderful. For anybody who it's to watch the process of drawing I want to watch so he's got a really wonderful touch I recommend Greg Capullo’s Instagram site. As he's drawing pages for these books, he posts the pencils as he finishes pieces of the process . Normally, he has six or seven photo panels showing exactly what he's been doing.  In man cases, this involves crowd scenes, with extensive detail. His work is beautiful, it’s easy to see why he is such a sought after talent.

Jonathan Glapion’s inks on Capullo’s pencils are comparable to Austin on Byrne, and Janson over Miller, Janson over Colan… Enhancing, and not hiding the intricate detail rendered in the pencils, adding that last flash of lightning to bring it all together. The balance struck between them is almost organic, a constant growth between the two, bringing them to levels bordering on the true Classic Art teams of the last 50 years.

I do not make these comparisons lightly

Now, to the story. Scott Snyder is powering a roller coaster with a rocket sled. The coordination between the different aspects of these stories is both intricate and daring. With all the different aspects of this story spinning like plates on sticks, Snyder juggles the plot lines, and what is left to him by the myriad of writers as Emmet Kelly did in the heyday of Ringling Brothers.

His deft touch, and subtle influences are balanced by lace covered sledgehammer blows, leaving the reader reeling, and wanting so very much more.

Scott Snyder, much like Tom Taylor, has pulled out all the stops, cut the brake lines, kicked out the jams, insert favorite euphemism for creating a high speed, non-stop mad ride to Hell!

And, much to my wallet’s chagrin, I am very happy about it.

Now, as it crosses to other books, and other writers pick up the reins, I am sure Snyder will still be the whip hand driving the story, not allowing some of these writers to go too far astray (unless it’s Tom King… then, well Woo Hoooo!)

I can’t say enough good things about this story, or the team creating it. I’m beginning t feel a little biased, but, what the heck.

Games, within games, within games…

So, the Batman who Laughs wasn’t infallible.

And the Robin King is going to be the bigger threat to the Darkest Knight than any combination of the Trinity, Flashes or their cohorts.

At least, that’s my takeaway from this issue.

We continue the story of the Robin King, as started in the Tales of the Dark Universe one shot.  Bruce has grown up, and grown into his sociopathy, and genius. He has used the family fortune to get all the training necessary, and to accumulate all the tools, to begin his reign as the true Evil Overlord of Gotham.

Utilizing his accumulated weapons, he has taken out Commissioner Gordon, Firestorm, Animal Man, Adam Strange Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), and the Red Tornado, all in truly spectacular and extraordinarily grisly fashion.

While the Black Hole Implosion for Firestorm was a particularly well thought out death, I think, so far, the ‘Mortal Coil’ Death, for the Red Tornado was the most imaginative… making his powers totally uncontrollable, while moving him closer to his ultimate dream, to be a real person, before his form totally destroys itself from the stresses of his own speed.

Marvelous! Fantastic! Gross!

Enter the Batman who Laughs, with the proposition to make the Robin King special, one of his own…

But, he’s a Robin, so, off to the Groblin Pit he goes!

Hence, his mistake, and possibly another chink in the boiler plate of his plans… since Bruce Wayne is NO Robin!

Peter Tomasi’s scripting for this issue is simply remarkable. The creep factor he brings to this iteration of Bruce Wayne is almost eviscerating. Reading this was painful to my eyes and psyche, feeling the levels of insanity drip off the page, and scratch across my mind like a little bird’s unnaturally sharp talons.

He really hit all the horror factors.

Then, there was the artwork for this story. Riley Rossmo’s artwork set the mood for this story. His shattered pencil / inks style, which can be distracting, was integral to telling this story. It allowed the Reader to view this story as if it were playing out in Bruce’s mind, its all the fracturing being how he is viewing the world.

For me, this story has been the highlight of the series… thus far. I am anticipating this, which is near the midpoint of things, is setting up the Wednesday Night Episode…so, -

Did I neglect there is a B-story, with Signal, Spoiler, Orphan and Red Robin taking on Quietus, the amalgam of Batman Ras’ al Ghul and Duke Thimas, from another Dark Universe, written by Tony Patrick and drawn by Daniel Sampere?

This story brings in a plot line for ‘What’s happening for the Other Bat-Family Elements’, as they try to find their way through Castle Bat’s myriad streets… 

I am guessing we will start to see more of these stories.

I am completely fine with this, rather than having to recap things later…
