I'm Palestinian 🇵🇸, but growing up, I never saw that word printed on a page, never saw it recognized as a nationality in novels or newspapers. We're here. We exist. We will not be erased, ignored, or silenced.

hey guys, hi friends, how are you? I miss you. and i miss being here. This was supposed to be a "2023 is over, here is a summary" post but this is just a life update.

I know I've been MIA for the past two and half months, I've been struggling to write this post. I don't sleep well and I've lost weight. I've been struggling to sit and write about how I'm personally doing. Unable to express personal thoughts. Maybe because I'm the least important thing to me now. All I know is the gut wrenching screams of bleeding Falasteen. I can only tune in that collective suffering. That's where I belong. That's every human being's duty. June Jordan is right "Palestine's liberation is a litmus test of morality" I'll always go back to that quote because so many are failing it. So many disappointed me. It's like they made their humanity crumble into irrelevance the moment they reveled that showing up for humanity is optional and conditional depending on how comfortable and relevant it is to the white western values.

But simultaneously I've been feeling the tourniquet salvaging the wound. The strife for liberation is well and alive. Liberation and Decolonization had become mainstream concepts and practice (although some are still struggling to stay fully principled away from normalization but it's happening!). Like all arabs. I grew up watching the dead kids. The slingshots and rocks combating massive occupation tanks. I grow up haunted by the assassination of 11 year old Mohammed Al-Durrah, by Naji El Ali's Handala being a signature graffiti art in random streets, knowing that Israel assassinated Naji because he was a Palestinian artist. A truth teller. I grow up witnessing how they bulldozed 23 year old Rachel Corrie. I think often of Rayan Suleiman from last year. still haunted by his big rounded brown eyes — this 7 year old, chased by the terrorist zio occupation forces that he fell to the ground and died of a cardiac arrest. A 7 year old. His body shut down. Fear transcended his fragile anatomy that it shut down and died. I'll never forget the photo of his little body surrounded at the funeral by his friends. A bunch of 7 year olds. Starring into the void. not able to process what's happening because it's such an absurd concept. Kids consoling kids. My head hurts witnessing extermination campaigns and mass graves, and maimed bodies beyond recognition — WHOLE full fledged lives turned into literal dust. For 84 days straight now.

My brain, soul, spirit, psyche will never ever be the same again. And I pray this horror dig itself in the depth of the bones of the entirety of the fascist zionist world and their systems and fuel us to take action and never go back to statue quo!

On another note, I've had a quite terrible accident. A deep second degree burn as you can see. Accidentally spilled boiling water directly from a pot on the stove all over my left thigh. The pain is terrible obviously and I caught a really bad flu on top of it in the first couple of days because i wasn't able to cover it, wear pants or properly cover myself while I'm sleeping. So I've been bed ridden, bone-tired with fever and a massive wound.

Mind you this happened the day before i was supposed to start a new teaching job. Obviously wasn't able to show up and that was a bummer because i needed that job. desperately so and not just financially, I couldn't and can't handle anymore the anger, grief and anxiety pressuring my nervous system. I needed to start that new job immediately to refocus my daily life on a track again just to gain a routine so i could cope. Usually between jobs when I'm unemployed I thrive in doing nothing but my fan hobbies. Art, fandom and creating make my life so rich I could never get bored but in times like these "balancing grief and joy" is NOT an option.

And here is a thing. Because I've seen many many fucked up self-centred individualistic takes coming from white liberals telling us how we should feel (they always feel entitled, don't they), like the irony in the colonial paradigm harming us then offering us their therapy as the solution, coming with "protect your energy", "choose peace", "practice daily masturbation to relieve the stress of what's happening" (yes I watched this being directly and openly suggested on a panel about Palestine) imagine fucking telling somebody to go finger themselves and masturbate the stress of a GENOCIDE away.

The strangest manifestation of the white "self care" industrial complex, where people think they can therapize their way out of colonial mental consequences of bearing witness and being complicit in genocide. Maybe we're not meant to cope with this because it's literally beyond comprehension. Insane pathological narcissistic behaviour to think it's even a goal to feel good right now- if you want to"feel good" your only goal should be mobilising and organizing for revolution through action to destroy and dismantle the imperialist systems, to never go back to status quo!

On the physical aspect. I've been lucky, my dad has been taking care of me, taking me to the hospital visits, paying for my meds, cooking for me and all. And as I sit here, healing and being taken care of, I can't stop thinking of how I have resources, I have a roof over my head, warplanes are not buzzing in my ears 24/7, I get to sleep in my bed. I'm injured and I'm healing, able to sedate the pain with medicine. Can use the bathroom because there is water. But Palestinians in Gaza do not have any of that. None. Kids have their limbs amputated without anaesthesia amid ongoing denial of medical supplies into the strip. Some of them die of pain during that deadly surgical intervention. It makes me sick to my stomach. And I don't know what else to say tbh. I just know we live in a world that has no red lines and we can't continue to exist like that. Empire shall fall.

I genuinely don't know what to say, new year spirit and holidays mean nothing to me. My only new year resolution is to never again get numbed by the Empire. If standing for the lives of people of colour and their liberation is radical in a cesspool of white supremacy and imperialism, so radical it is.

I hope you're doing fine though. i hope you're well and okay. and to be honest I don't have it in me to ask about the fandom and how is it going.. It's probably going, I'm just not there at the moment. But i want to hear from you. How's life lately? What have you been up to? Also I am sorry if you've been tagging me in wips, games or sending me asks, I am genuinely sorry if I did not reply, I promise i see it and appreciate it ❤️‍🩹 I appreciate the special friendships and bonds I've formed in this fandom here, especially this year, and I don't wanna feel like I'm losing that.

Shahid Naji Al-Ali says: After the occupation (occupied Lebanon 1982), it was my concern to inspect the camp (Ain el-Hilweh) to know the front of the resistance. I took my son with me, and he was 15 years old and we went on the day. The bodies of the martyrs were still on the streets, and the burned Israeli tanks were at the gates of the camp, which had not yet been withdrawn by the Israelis. I looked into the nature of the resistance, and I knew it was only 40 or 50 guys. The camp had been burned down by Israelis, children and women were in shelters, Israeli missiles were being carried out to the depths, and hundreds of children had been killed in the camp and in Saida. These young people themselves and some of them automatically vowed that they would not give up and that it was testimony or death. Indeed, Israel has not been able to capture any of these young people. By day in the sunlight, Israel was repelling them, and at night, they only came out with RPG. This is a picture of what happened in Ein el-Hilweh camp, and I'm a witness, but I know that there are other images in the Tyre, North Tower, Bus and Rashidiyah camps.

Hari ini saya mengikuti kajian Lingkar KGI  (Keadilan Gender Islam) yang diisi oleh Bu Nyai Dr Nur Rofiah, Bil Uzm. Pembahasan kali ini tentang novel Perempuan di Titik 0 dari Nawal El Saadawi. Selama ini, saya tidak pernah membaca novel tersebut meskipun banyak yang ngasih rekomendasi. Bukan karena saya anti dengan pandangan Feminisme. Tapi lebih karena membaca sinopsisnya saja sudah membuat tangan saya dingin. Saya tidak sanggup membaca karya sastra yang sifatnya triggering semacam itu.

Saya tidak akan menulis ulang materinya seperti apa. Tapi saya ingin menceritakan bagian akhir kajian ini. Saat kajian akan ditutup, ada peserta yang bertanya:

“Nawal El Saadawi pernah mengatakan bahwa ayat-ayat Al Qur’an harusnya diperbarui karena ada beberapa bagian yang tidak relevan dengan perkembangan zaman. Bagaimana pendapat Ibu tentang ini?”

Jawaban dari Bu Nur Rofiah mengkonfirmasi apa yang saya pikirkan selama ini dan entah kenapa, saya merasa bahagia sekali.

Selama ini, saya selalu berpikir bahwa Al Qur’an itu kandungannya sangat luas. Diturunkan dari Allah yang Maha Adil dan Maha Bijaksana. Maka sifat ayat Al Qur’an itu tetap, tidak berubah dan berlaku sepanjang zaman.

Akan tetapi, untuk menterjemahkan Al Qur’an menjadi hukum, kita membutuhkan proses interpretasi (tafsir). Yang menafsirkan Al Qur’an adalah manusia dengan nalar dan wawasan yang sangat terbatas sekali. Manusia yang rawan berbuat salah dan sudut pandangnya kadang tidak utuh.

Oleh karena itu, interpretasi Al Qur’an sifatnya memang bertahap, dinamis, dan terus berkembang seiring berjalannya waktu. Seiring dengan bertambah luasnya wawasan dan perspektif manusia. 

Salah satu sifat dari ilmu adalah terus berkembang. Jika Allah menurunkan Al Qur’an untuk menemani manusia hingga akhir zaman, maka ilmu tafsir juga harus terus bertumbuh mengikuti zaman. Karena bagaimanapun, ilmu tafsir adalah lensa yang membantu manusia untuk terus berinteraksi dengan Al Qur’an.

Tiap melihat orang seperti Nawal El Saadawi, alih-alih membenci, saya justeru merasa beliau berjasa atas kepekaan beliau terhadap ketidakadilan. Adapun jika ucapan beliau bertentangan dengan apa yang saya percayai, saya memahami bahwa mungkin saja dalam perjalanan hidup beliau, beliau belum banyak berinteraksi dengan tafsir-tafsir yang bisa menyelesaikan masalah yang beliau hadapi.

Background akademik Nawal El Saadawi adalah kedokteran. Bukan Ilmu Tafsir.

Saya merasa sedikit relate karena background akademik saya juga bukan Ilmu Tafsir. Saya menghabiskan 12 tahun untuk menggeluti Teknik Informatika (5 tahun melalui kuliah S1-S2 dan 7 tahun di dunia kerja). Itupun, ilmu saya juga masih tidak dalam. Sementara ilmu agama saya pelajari di sela-selanya. Maka sudah pasti, awam seperti saya akan kelimpungan dan akan selalu punya banyak pertanyaan yang perlu dijawab. Satu waktu, mungkin saya yang perlu bersabar. Lain waktu, andaikata pertanyaan dari orang seperti saya lebih terasa seperti gugatan, saya selalu berharap ada teman yang menyambut saya dengan hangat dan menemani saya untuk belajar. Bukan malah diasumsikan yang tidak-tidak.

Saya pernah di fase stuck dan lelah sekali dalam memahami ayat tentang perempuan. Kenapa dalam Al Qur’an sampai ada ayat yang mengizinkan laki-laki memukul isterinya? Bagaimana jika yang terjadi adalah sebaliknya? Kalau laki-laki yang salah apakah boleh dipukul juga?

Jangan memahami paragraf di atas sebagai bentuk permintaan izin biar perempuan bisa memukul laki-laki. Hehe

Selama ini, saya memandang bahwa manusia bukan sekedar makhluk fisik tapi juga makhluk intelektual dan spiritual. Fisik laki-laki dan wanita memang berbeda. Tapi dari sisi intelektual, laki-laki dan wanita punya potensi yang sama. Akal laki-laki dan perempuan sama-sama bisa menerima ilmu dengan baik. Akal laki-laki dan perempuan juga sama-sama bisa terjebak bias. Maka laki-laki dan perempuan ini seharusnya sama-sama punya peluang untuk saling mengingatkan satu sama lain. Adapun dari sisi spiritual, laki-laki dan perempuan punya peluang yang sama untuk mendekat kepada Allah. 

Saya mendiamkan pertanyaan tersebut begitu lama. Bukan karena takut untuk memprotes tapi lebih karena saya menyadari bahwa ilmu saya masih sempit. Mungkin saja jika kelak saya berinteraksi lebih sering lagi dengan Al Qur’an, saya akan memahami ayat ini dengan baik.

Hingga suatu hari, ustadz Nouman Ali Khan memasukkan ayat ini ke dalam segmen Messed In My Head. Ayat yang dibahas dalam segmen ini adalah ayat-ayat yang maknanya masih membingungkan bagi kita. Kita perlu memperluas wawasan dan mempertajam nalar untuk memahami ayat tersebut.

Sayapun merasa throwback ke beberapa tahun yang lalu. Ketika saya kecil, saya belajar fiqih tidak dengan cara:

“Ada masalah ini“

“Dalilnya ini“

“Hukumnya ini“

Tapi ustadz dan ayah saya suka menanyakan:

“Dek, hukumnya jual beli kotoran ternak buat pupuk apa? Kenapa bisa begitu?“

Maka jawabannya jadinya:

“Kotoran ternak itu masuk najis. Kalau mau jual belinya sah, barang yang dijual harus suci. Jadi jual beli kotoran ternak tidak sah dari sisi akad”

Saya dulu suka banget dengan fiqih karena dinamikanya sangat terasa. Penambahan pemahaman tentang suatu konsep dan penajaman nalar berpengaruh sekali ke perspektif kita akan suatu perkara.

Selama belajar, saya bisa banyak bertanya tentang kasus-kasus random semisal:

“Kalau di suatu daerah cuma ada burung dara, apakah kita boleh berkorban dengan burung dara? Bukan kambing atau sapi?“

Ya emang nggak bakal ada daerah yang semacam itu sih. Tapi imajinasi anak-anak kan suka random sekali ~_~ Karena saking randomnya, biasanya sama ustadznya dijawab:

“Nanti kalo kamu udah gedhe, kamu cari orang yang lebih pinter dan tanya ke mereka”

Kata-kata seperti ini mungkin terdengar sepele. Tapi ketika saya dewasa, saya jadi tersadar bahwa ini bentuk kejujuran yang perlu kita utarakan kalau kita belum memahami konsep dasarnya dan akal kita belum bisa untuk menjangkau itu. Karena bagaimanapun, untuk memperkaya pemahaman melalui proses berpikir, akal tetap butuh pijakan yang kuat dan validasi yang jelas untuk memastikan bahwa kita berpikir ke arah yang benar.

Ketika remaja, saya mulai berinteraksi dengan banyak pemikiran. Saya mulai menemukan pemikiran yang menganggap bahwa sebagai bentuk ketegasan dalam beragama, hal-hal yang sebenarnya masih terbuka harus segera dipastikan jawabnya. Seperti ayat tentang memukul isteri tadi. Maka demi memaksakan kepastian, dicarilah dalil bahwa perempuan akalnya setengah dari laki-laki dan seterusnya. Sehingga ayat itu sudah pasti benar.

Padahal letak masalahnya bukan di “benar atau salahnya ayat”. Ayat tersebut sudah bagian dari Al Qur’an yang kita imani kebenarannya. Permasalahannya terletak di:

“Ayat tersebut substansinya apa? diturunkan dalam konteks apa? Berlaku secara khusus pada zaman tertentu atau bagaimana? dst dst?”

Untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut, kita masih kesulitan. Tapi alih-alih bersabar dengan ketidaktahuan, kita buru-buru menutup dengan ungkapan bahwa “akal perempuan setengah dari laki-laki”. Saya sempat merasa jumud gara-gara itu.

Usai menyimak kajian-kajian ustadz Nouman, saya kembali tersadar bahwa Al Qur’an akan terus menerima pertanyaan dari kita dengan ramah.  Dalam khazanah keilmuan Islam ada banyak ladang amal bagi ulama untuk terus berikhtiar menggali makna Al Qur’an. 

Pelan-pelan, saya mulai menerima bahwa kita selalu diizinkan untuk jujur jika ada ayat yang memang belum dipahami maknanya. Tidak memaksakan harus sesuai dengan sudut pandang kita. Tidak memaksakan nalar bergerak tidak terkendali apalagi kalau sampai mencari “data dukung” yang mendukung asumsi kita yang bias.

DAM (دام) meaning “ever lasting” in Arabic, was one of the first Palestinian rap groups to rap in Arabic. One of the most popular groups in Palestine– they cite their influences as diversely as Ghassan Kanafani, Tupac, Ahlam Mosteghanemi, Naji al Ali, Mahmoud Darwish, Biggie, K’naan, Public Enemy and Pharoahe Monch.

More so than ever on their latest album, Ben Haana Wa Maana (بين حانة ومانة) their work dives deep into what it means to be Palestinian today. The band documents the struggles in their everyday lives — aging, love, relationships, career anxieties and, of course, checkpoints, border walls, drone strikes, diaspora, bodily autonomy, and social movements.

“That song is all about how bad Arab leadership is, and how much money is put into dividing Arabs. We talk about Kolthoum, Nawal El Saadawi, Abu Trikah, Ashraf Fayad. Nawal El Saadawi is a very feminist Egyptian author. Bu Kolthoum is an amazing Syrian rapper. Aboutrika is an Egyptian football player. Each one of those people said something that disagrees with the will of the Arab leadership, whether it's criticizing religion, chauvinism, the government, the king, whatever. Each one of them got their own punishment. This song is about the billions of dollars that go into dividing the Arab world, and how, whenever anyone tries to make a change, they're punished.”

“The inspiration for that song is actually Ta-Nehisi Coates' Between the World and Me. It's a really brilliant book. Tamir was reading it and told me: "Hey, you need to read this book." It really connected to the world that we live here as Palestinians, especially how much Coates emphasizes the body… how to live in a Black body in America, how to be a Black man in America, what it means to be the spirit and the body. This is what I feel as a woman in our community and as a woman under the Israeli occupation.”

Saiba quais são as 50 piores produções do streaming e evite cair numa cilada

Nesses intermináveis meses de confinamento, fomos obrigados a matar o tédio correndo os olhos pelas prateleiras das plataformas de streaming. Não dá exatamente para reclamar do volume de títulos, mas haja filme ruim e série enrolada nessa oferta toda –isso sem contar com os bugs das próprias plataformas.

A Netflix, por exemplo, pode até ser pródiga na quantidade de lançamentos semanais, mas o grosso dessa produção toda é bem descartável. E dá-lhe atrações que mais parecem ter sido criadas pelo algoritmo do que por algum roteirista com cérebro.

No Amazon Prime Video é impressionante o desleixo com o acabamento na disposição das obras. Há sinopses em inglês e filmes que foram rebatizados no Brasil, mas que mantêm por ali o título original. E se alguém quiser assistir ao bom “Drugstore Cowboy”, de Gus Van Sant, por exemplo, só poderá vê-lo na versão dublada.

A HBO Go tem, de longe, a pior plataforma em termos de navegabilidade: correr as prateleiras para xeretar o catálogo em ordem alfabética é um esforço hercúleo. Além disso, basta ter pausado um filme ou seriado para que ele trave e não retome de forma alguma.

Já o Disney+ faz um fuzuê em torno do tamanho do seu catálogo, mas a coisa não é assim tão impressionante. Ao menos no Brasil, a plataforma não traz “O Planeta do Tesouro“, que o estúdio lançou em 2002, nem alguns dos desenhos clássicos de Mickey e companhia.

Por fim, o Globoplay, embora tenha um acervo considerável de produção nacional, é líder na quantidade de tranqueiras estrangeiras.

A versão do filme argentino “Corazón de Léon” é tão sem graça e com piadas batidas quanto o original. Como a maioria dos filmes que partem de um preconceito para demovê-lo, neste caso o de uma mulher contra homens baixos, é um sucessão de preconceitos bestas. Leia a crítica.

Em Busca da Felicidade Chasing Happiness, EUA, 2019. Direção: John Lloyd Taylor. Com: Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas. 96 min. 12 anos. Na onda dos documentários chapa-branca sobre ídolos pop, temos este aqui que pretende mostrar a intimidade dos Jonas Brothers. Os irmãos fofinhos despejam platitudes e fingem discussões sinceras de quase dar pena. E os produtores tiveram a pachorra de ainda fazer uma continuação.

Filhos do Paraíso Irã, 1997. Diretor: Majid Majidi. Com: Amir Naji, Mir Farrokh Hashemian, Bahare Seddiqi. 87 min. Livre O tão incensado cinema iraniano também tem as suas besteiras, e esse melodrama é uma delas. A história do menininho que perde os sapatos da irmã é pretexto para chicotear o espectador com imagens de miséria e pais autoritários nesse filme que só impressiona os impressionáveis.

Game dos Clones Brasil, 2020. Com: Sabrina Sato. Uma temporada (10 episódios). 16 anos. Neste reality, um solteiro ou uma solteira precisa achar um pretendente entre sete pessoas fisicamente muito parecidas –vale dizer, só com casais heterossexuais, neste programa que também é exibido na Record. E dá-lhe um desfile de gente desinteressante, sem a graça culpada de um “De Férias com o Ex”.

Moonrise Kingdom EUA, 2012. Direção: Wes Anderson. Com: Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray. 94 min. 12 anos. Eis aí mais uma obra superestimada de Wes Anderson, o diretor de uma nota só. Um casal de pré-adolescentes arma um plano de fuga enquanto o cineasta despeja todos os seus irritantes tiques: dos atores fazendo cara de bobo à direção de arte ornamentada. Leia a crítica.

No Gogó do Paulinho Brasil, 2019. Direção: Roberto Santucci. Com: Maurício Manfrini, Carlos Alberto de Nóbrega, Cacau Protásio. 89 min. 12 anos. Não basta ser mais uma comédia cheia de piadas reciclada. Aqui, pra piorar, a matéria-prima é um personagem de “A Praça É Nossa”, o malandro que fala tudo errado. Nem o talento de Cacau Protásio salva esse desastre que parece só querer tirar sarro de pobre.

Sexy por Acidente EUA/China, 2018. Direção: Abby Kohn, Marc Silverstein. Com: Amy Schumer, Michelle Williams, Rory Scovel. 110 min. 12 anos. Nesta comédia que quer passar uma mensagem chatíssima de empoderamento feminino até mesmo a Amy Schumer consegue ficar totalmente sem graça. Leia a crítica.

The Librarians EUA, 2014. Direção: John Rogers. Com: Noah Wyle, Rebecca Romijn, Lindy Booth. 42 min. 14 anos. A série tinha tudo para agradar aos amantes de literatura, afinal, a premissa é que um grupo de bibliotecários tem que solucionar mistérios. Mas a coisa desanda numa loucura fantasiosa e enfadonha.

Todos Já Sabem Espanha/França/Itália, 2018. Direção: Asghar Farhadi. Com: Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ricardo Darín. 133 min. 12 anos. O filme do iraniano Asghar Farhadi desperdiça Ricardo Darín, Penelope Cruz e Javier Bardem numa trama moralista. Leia a crítica.

Caminhos da Floresta EUA, 2014. Direção: Rob Marshall. Com: Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt. 125 min. 12 anos. Boas atrizes como Meryl Streep e Emily Blunt têm de se juntar a outros nem tanto, como James Corden e Anna Kendrick, em mais um musical desconjuntado dirigido por Rob Marshall, que fez uma adaptação precária da obra de Stephen Sondheim. Fuja dessa floresta.

Esqueceram de Mim 3 EUA, 2014. Direção: Rob Marshall. Com: Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt. 125 min. 12 anos. Tudo bem que o segundo filme já era um pastiche do primeiro, mas o charme de se passar em Nova York dava um toque diferente. Mas este terceiro filme nem conta com Macaulay Culkin e ainda traz uma trama mirabolante sobre chips secretos e bichos espertinhos.

Origens: A Evolução Humana EUA, 2019. Apresentado por Jason Silva. Uma temporada (8 episódios). 14 anos. A proposta desta série documental pode até parecer interessante: explicar a evolução por meio de temas como guerras, dinheiro e explorações. Mas o apresentador, Jason Silva, põe tudo a perder com jeito tão histriônico e artificial que parece até um youtuber.

Piratas do Caribe: Navegando em Águas Misteriosas EUA, 2011. Direção: Rob Marshall. Com: Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz e Geoffrey Rush. 137 min. 12 anos. A boa franquia iniciada em 2003 ficou definitivamente à deriva a partir desta quarta incursão de Jack Sparrow, totalmente caça-níquel. Nem Penélope Cruz salva essa aventura sem alma e de estender uma saga que poderia ter acabado numa trilogia.

Sabores Extremos com Gordon Ramsay EUA, 2019. Apresentado por Gordon Ramsay. Com: Gordon Ramsay, Sheldon Simeon, Virgilio Martínez, Michelle Costello e Monique Fiso. Duas temporadas (13 episódios). 14 anos. Mais um caso de apresentador que derruba a atração –neste caso, o ranzinza Gordon Ramsay. O chef mais antipático do planeta viaja o mundo atrás de sabores locais, mas, como sempre, as viagens só servem para reforçar o seu ego e a sua suposta genialidade.

Star Wars: A Ascensão Skywalker EUA, 2019. Direção: J.J. Abrams. Com: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver e Oscar Isaac. 142 min. 12 anos. J. J. Abrams não podia terminar de maneira pior a sua visão sobre o universo de George Lucas. As pirotecnias criadas com computação gráfica só servem para esconder os buracos de um roteiro sem sentido e que envergonha a trilogia clássica criada na década de 1970. Leia a crítica.

Star Wars: Ataque dos Clones EUA, 2002. Direção: George Lucas. Com: Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman e Hayden Christensen. 142 min. Livre. Quem foi o gênio que inventou esse mestre Yoda malfeito, criado com computação gráfica, e fazendo pirotecnias? Ele resume bem os efeitos especiais extravagantes e vazios deste filme, que ainda piora com o pouco carismático Hayden Christenssen no papel principal. Leia a crítica.

Taylor Swift Folklore – Sessões no Long Pond Studio EUA, 2020. Direção: Taylor Swift. Com: Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, Justin Vernon, Taylor Swift. 100 min. 10 anos. Quem aguenta Taylor Swift, não é mesmo? Neste documentário, o espectador precisa suportar quase duas horas da cantora mais sem sal da música pop falando sobre as composições de seu mais recente álbum num clima bucólico, com som de grilos ao fundo.

Thor: O Mundo Sombrio EUA, 2013. Direção: Alan Taylor. Com: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman e Tom Hiddleston. 112 min. 12 anos. Convenhamos, Chris Hemsworth é um ator tão limitado que faz Schwarzenegger parecer a Fernanda Montenegro com anabolizantes. Se o primeiro “Thor” tinha alguma graça ao mostrar o herói deslocado na Terra, esse não tem encanto algum. E fez até o ator Christopher Ecclestone se arrepender deter participado dele. Vingadores: Ultimato EUA, 2019. Direção: Joe Russo, Anthony Russo. Com: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo. 181 min. 12 anos. O filme de maior bilheteria da história da Marvel é uma maçaroca narrativa que desperdiça um punhado de nomões hollywoodianos na pele de dezenas de personagens que se revezam na tela. A cena de batalha no clímax não cria catarse nenhuma, só um alívio por mostrar que o filme está acabando. Leia a crítica.

Pouca coisa envelheceu tão mal quanto essa sátira boba que veio na onda da antipolítica. Aqui se tenta transformar em piada todo o tipo de senso-comum que qualquer tiozão de churrasco fala sobre políticos. E um careteiro Leandro Hassum tenta fazer rir com elas. Leia a crítica.

Cine Holliúdy Brasil, 2012. Direção: Halder Gomes, Renata Porto d’Ave, Patricia Pedrosa. Com: Edmilson Filho, Falcão, Gustavo Falcão e Heloisa Perissé. 91 min. 12 anos. Como estragar o universo de uma das mais gratas surpresas do cinema nacional? Pegue uma comédia brilhante cuja graça estava ancorada no seu regionalismo e a transforme numa série pasteurizada e cheia de atores globais forçando o sotaque cearense.

Cinquenta Tons de Cinza EUA, 2015. Direção: Sam Taylor-Johnson. Com: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan e Jennifer Ehle. 125 min. 16 anos. O sucesso do livro, um grande best-seller, levou o cinema a apostar nesta adaptação que é ainda mais melosa. A cena em que Anastasia vê os carros de luxo de Grey é de se esconder embaixo do sofá de vergonha. Leia a crítica.

Crô em Família Brasil, 2018. Direção: Cininha de Paula. Com: Marcelo Serrado, Arlete Salles e Fabiana Karla. 94 min. 12 anos. Já é difícil aguentar Marcelo Serrado no papel desse que é um dos personagens mais ofensivos da história da televisão. Mas dá para ficar pior. É só escalar os caricatos Fabiana Karla e Jefferson Schroeder para contracenar com ele nessa continuação totalmente dispensável. Leia a crítica.

Duas Garotas em Apuros EUA, 2011. Roteiro: Whitney Cummings, Michael Patrick King. Com: Beth Behrs, Kat Dennings e Garrett Morris. Seis temporadas (138 episódios). 12 anos. Supostamente cômica, essa série conta a história de duas garçonetes falidas, interpretadas por uma dupla de atrizes histéricas que tentam imitar a dinâmica de “Two and a Half Man“. Entre piadas sobre estupro e estereótipos raciais, figurou entre as piores séries do ano em listas do começo da década.

Fina Estampa Brasil, 2011. Direção: Wolf Maya. Com: Lilia Cabral, Cristiane Torloni e Dalton Vigh. 185 episódios. 12 anos. Por causa da pandemia nos vimos obrigados a rever esta novela na TV, mas não clique nela voluntariamente na plataforma. Embora seja de 2011, tudo ali parece do século passado, desde a Pereirão de Lilia Cabral aos diálogos mais triviais. Sem contar o personagem Crô, que ainda ganhou filmes, também disponíveis no Globoplay. Leia a crítica.

Manifest – O Mistério do Voo 828 EUA, 2018. Roteiro: Jeff Rake. Com: Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas, J.R. Ramirez e Athena Karkanis. Três temporadas (31 episódios). 14 anos. Um elenco composto pelos piores atores do mundo, incluindo a sofrível Melissa Roxburgh, tem de se virar uma história sem fundamento sobre um avião desaparecido. É uma série que só prova que a tal era de ouro da televisão não é assim tão dourada como pensam os mais afoitos.

Passageiros Austrália/EUA, 2016. Direção: Morten Tyldum. Com: Chris Pratt, Jennifer Lawrence, Laurence Fishburne e Michael Sheen. 116 min. 12 anos. Ao contrário do que diz a sinopse, neste filme de ficção científica não é uma pane na nave espacial que acorda dois tripulantes que deveriam hibernar por anos, mas sim um é acordado e resolve acordar outro. Quer sacanagem maior? E ainda a relação dos dois é um romance. Não cola.

Todas as Mulheres do Mundo Brasil, 2020. Direção: Ricardo Spencer, Renata Porto d’Ave. Com: Emílio Dantas, Sophie Charlotte e Martha Nowill. Uma temporada (12 episódios). 14 anos. A ideia de atualizar o delicioso longa de Domingos Oliveira descamba para uma chatice e Paulo se torna um personagem ególatra e insuportável, muito distante do boa praça de Paulo José no longa de 1966.

A Verdade sobre o Caso Harry Quebert EUA, 2018. Direção: Jean-Jacques Annaud. Com: Patrick Dempsey, Ben Schnetzer e Damon Wayans Jr. Uma temporada (10 episódios). 14 anos. A série com Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) é baseada num excelente livro, best-seller na França, do suíço Joel Dicker. O seriado, porém, se perde no esforço de deixar a trama cheia de mistérios.

Batman Eternamente Já deve haver algum consenso de que Val Kilmer foi o pior Batman da história do cinema e da televisão. E aqui só Tommy Lee Jones como Duas Caras salva alguns minutos de um horror dos anos 1990.

Comer, Rezar, Amar O filme inspirado num best-seller de quase auto-ajuda é ruim. Mas a mensagem positiva e as belas paisagens podem até ajudar aqueles dias de bode e frio em casa quando você está meio para baixo. Leia a crítica.

O Discurso do Rei Austrália, EUA e Inglaterra, 2010. Direção: Tom Hooper. Com: Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush e Helena Bonham Carter. 118 min. 12 anos. O bom do desastre de “Cats” é que ele serviu para mostrar, de uma vez por todas, que o diretor Tom Hooper é um embuste. Mas muita gente ainda não tinha caído em si no começo da década, quando ele levou o Oscar por essa cinebiografia sem graça e chapa-branca sobre o rei George 6º. Leia a crítica.

Fahrenheit 451 A audácia da nova versão do longa clássico de François Truffaut poderia ser desculpada pela escalação dos maravilhosos Michals para os papéis principais: Michael B. Jordan e Michal Shannon, mas o resultado é tão ruim que nem a beleza dos dois salvou.

Girls EUA, 2012. Direção: Lena Dunham. Com: Lena Dunham, Adam Driver, Jemima Kirke. Seis temporadas (62 episódios). 16 anos. É polêmico falar mal desta série, sabemos. Mas a autocondescendência das jovens de metrópole é muito chata para acompanhar por todas as seis temporadas. Leia a crítica.

O Hipnotizador Brasil, Argentina e Uruguai, 2015. Direção: José Eduardo Belmonte. Com: Carla Quevedo, Lee Taylor e Leonardo Sbaraglia. Duas temporadas (16 episódios). 14 anos. A coprodução de Argentina, Uruguai e Brasil podia ter sido uma espécie de “Babylon Berlin”, misturando os segredos do inconsciente com atores bonitos vestindo roupas do começo do século 20, mas a trama da série se perde completamente e nada faz sentido.

Lion: Uma Jornada Para Casa Austrália, EUA e Inglaterra, 2016. Direção: Garth Davis. Com: Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman e Rooney Mara. 118 min. 12 anos. O incansável cine-miséria tenta comover a Academia escalando Nicole Kidman como coadjuvante nessa história que quer exaltar o Google Earth (!). Dev Patel (e quem mais, Hollywood?) interpreta um jovem indiano que sai em busca de seus pais naturais, com quem perdeu o contato na infância. Leia a crítica.

Os Oito Odiados EUA, 2016. Direção: Quentin Tarantino. Com: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell e Jennifer Jason Leigh. 168 min. 18 anos. O afã do diretor Quentin Tarantino em reescrever a história encontrou o seu ponto mais pueril neste faroeste entediante. Ali, as cicatrizes da Guerra Civil e o germe da subsequente segregação racial são pasteurizados em mais um filme cheio de referências que não chega a lugar algum. Leia a crítica.

The Vow EUA, 2020. Direção: Jehane Noujaim e Karim Amer. Com: Anthony Ames, Sarah Edmondson e Bonnie Piesse. Duas temporadas (16 episódios). 16 anos. Dentro do filão de séries documentais sobre seitas bizarras, esta não consegue parar em pé. É impossível se afeiçoar a qualquer um dos incautos que caíram na lábia dos dois líderes da comunidade NXIVM, tamanhas as baboseiras com cara de autoajuda que eles falam.

Years and Years Inglaterra, 2019. Direção: Russell T. Davies. Com: Rory Kinnear, T’Nia Miller e Anne Reid. Uma temporada (seis episódios). 16 anos. Assustado com brexit, Trump e a ascensão da direita, Russell T. Davies criou uma série que imagina o futuro do Reino Unido. Mas a trama é uma colcha de retalhos de pesadelos que pululam em mentes liberais e que corre o risco de ficar datada agora que Joe Biden venceu as eleições.​ Leia a análise.

Em busca do seu próprio “Game of Thrones“, a Netflix lançou os sofríveis “Cursed” e “The Witcher” e agora esse “Bárbaros”, série ambientada durante o Império Romano, que consegue ser ainda pior graças à sua ode germanófila com cheiro de libelo anti-União Europeia.

Elite Espanha, 2018. Direção: Ramón Salazar, Dani de la Orden, Silvia Quer e Jorge Torregrossa. Com: Ester Expósito, Danna Paola e Arón Piper. Três temporadas (24 episódios). 18 anos. A série espanhola de suspense é um pornô soft com atores jovens e carismáticos. Um novelão em que há um mistério em torno de um assassinato. É ruim. É horrível. Mas não dá para parar de assistir. Emily em Paris EUA, 2020. Criação: Darren Star. Com: Lily Collins, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu e Ashley Park. Uma temporada (11 episódios). 14 anos. Pouca coisa pode ser mais ofensiva aos franceses do que esta série com a pouca talentosa Lily Collins no papel de uma garota que ensina aos parisienses o “jeito americano de fazer as coisas”. Fútil, ganhou com mérito o rótulo de “ambient TV”: funciona como um ótimo fundo enquanto o espectador se dedica a outras coisas. Leia a crítica.

Os Infiéis Itália, 2020. Diretor: Stefano Mordini. Com: Riccardo Scamarcio, Valerio Mastandrea e Laura Chiatti. 88 min. 14 anos. La La Land EUA, 2016. Direção: Damien Chazelle. Com: Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone e John Legend. 127 min. Livre. O filme mais chato a chegar ao Oscar nos últimos anos. Colorido demais, musicado demais, tudo é over nesta história sobre duas pessoas egoístas demais para nos fazer acreditar que seja esta uma história de amor. Leia a crítica.

Milf França e Bélgica, 2018. Direção: Axelle Laffont. Com: Marie-Josée Croze, Virginie Ledoyen, Axelle Laffont. 101 min. 16 anos. O título deste filme francês totalmente sem graça remete a uma expressão para lá de machista: a sigla MILF, em inglês, significa “mãe com quem eu transaria”. O termo é usado para falar de mulheres com mais de 40 anos que são fisicamente atraentes. O longa, sobre amigas que viajam a uma cidade de praia, consegue ser ainda pior que a ideia do título.

Ponte Aérea Brasil, 2015. Direção: Julia Rezende. Com: Caio Blat, Letícia Collin e Emílio de Mello. 108 min. 14 anos. As diferenças entre a vida em São Paulo e a vida no Rio de Janeiro são tratadas com todos os clichês possíveis nesse romance com Caio Blat no papel de um artista tranquilão e Letícia Colin vivendo uma publicitária ansiosa –tudo embalado numa reflexão rasa sobre os tormentos amorosos. Ted EUA, 2012. Direção: Seth MacFarlane. Com: Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis e Seth MacFarlane. 106 min. 16 anos. Nem há muito o que dizer de um filme cuja premissa é um ursinho de pelúcia que ajuda seu dono humano a ser o que ele sempre quis ser: um adulto que se comporta como um adolescente.​

​​Victoria & Abdul EUA/Inglaterra, 2017. Direção: Stephen Frears. Com: Judi Dench, Ali Fazal e Tim Pigott-Smith. 111 min. 10 anos. Stephen Frears consegue dar a qualquer filme uma cara de telefilme barato. E não é muito diferente nessa história que tenta ser simpática à figura da rainha Vitória e seu criado indiano, Abdul, muito embora àquele tempo sua majestade estivesse massacrando a Índia.
