L.A. County to pay $4 million to families of a couple killed in 2013 crash with a speeding deputy.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has agreed to pay $4 million to settle a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the families of a couple killed four years ago when a sheriff’s deputy raced into a Palmdale intersection and struck their car, records show.
Sara Paynter and Robert Delgadillo were killed in December 2013 when the Ford Explorer they were riding in was struck by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department cruiser that had moments earlier been traveling at about 83 mph, according to a district attorney’s memo. The posted speed limit was 50 mph.
The deputy, Kamal Jannah, was not responding to an emergency call and did not have his lights or siren on at the time of the wreck, according to a report released by the county.
Paynter, 20, of Van Nuys, and Delgadillo, 31, of Palmdale, were ejected from the backseat of the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene. The deputy and two other people riding in the Explorer were injured.

What distinguishes a hi-fi system from home theater?
Tumblr media
Home theater systems work with up to ten speakers. Unlike a hi-fi system, in home theater installation we are dealing with an extremely complex structure. A hi-fi system essentially consists of an amplifier, a CD or network player and two identical speakers for playing back the stereo signal. To a home theater system, In contrast, a subwoofer that reproduces the bass frequencies and up to nine other, very different speakers whose transmission ranges must be coordinated exactly with the frequencies reproduced by the subwoofer. The precise tuning of woofers and high-midrange drivers is not an easy task with a three-way speaker: the developer has to make sure that the woofer fits perfectly in the volume and phase to the midrange and tweeter. Only then is an absolutely linear frequency response guaranteed. For home theater systems, adapting the woofer - here in most cases a separate subwoofer - is much more difficult. It does not have to be tuned to two high-midrange speakers, but to the main speakers on the left and right, the center speaker and harmonize the two rear effect boxes. Therefore, it is not enough to just set up the same number of identical speakers in a stereo system. This approach from the old hi-fi world is not true for the home theater.
The individual speakers have to fulfill completely different tasks in the home cinema area, which are controlled by the electronics of the audio video receiver. Therefore, it is essential for home theater systems to also tune the electronic settings of the amplifier to the characteristics of the speakers. An example may clarify this problem: A manufacturer of speakers without NextDayInstalls separates the transmission range of its satellite subwoofer system at 100 Hz with a slope of 18 dB. This is the basis for a harmonious interaction of his speakers created. However, if this speaker set is connected to an amplifier whose subwoofer output is designed for a crossover frequency of 90 Hz with a slope of 24 dB, the connection values will not match. Because there is no standardization, any manufacturer of AV receivers and speakers can do what they want. If a deviation from 80 to 90 Hz is still acceptable, the usual differences from 200 to 80 Hz also already mean drastic errors in the bass reproduction.
The only one who has reliably controlled this connection hassle is NextDayInstalls. All devices and speakers that carry this seal of approval, have standardized connection values so that the customer only on NextDayInstalls must switch and can be sure that amplifier, subwoofer, and satellites are perfectly coupled together.
