Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep will be in action for Wimbledon Day 2 on Tuesday.

Rafael Nadal, the men’s second seed, and Simona Halep, the women’s top seed, will be in action on Day 2 of Grand Slam action.
Play on the day will begin at 7 a.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN in the United States. However, some courtswill be locked behind the subscription-based ESPN+.
Nadal’s top competition at Wimbledon, Roger Federer, made it through his first round opponent, Dusan Lajovic, in straight sets on Monday. Nadal, fresh off a victory in the French Open, is set to face Dudi Sela in his opener on Tuesday.
Novak Djokovic, the 12th-seeded man, will be taking on Tennys Sandgren. Fourth seed Alexander Zverev, fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro and seventh seed Dominic Thiem will all be in action as well, against James Duckworth, Petre Gojowczyk and Marco Baghdatis, respectively.

Are Dominic Thiem’s Hard Court Results Good Enough?
At the public courts where I play tennis in Florida (as with every other tennis circle), there’s a weekly debate over who is better, Dominic Thiem, Nick Kyrgios or Alexander Zverev, and who has the highest ceiling. I like listening to these debates, but I rarely pick one over the other, partially because there are too many variables and partially because I try to stay objective.
However, I do like to interject into this debate -- for those who choose Thiem -- that Dominic has to get a lot better on hard courts. The response is always something like “What are you talking about? He’s already Top 10.” Yes, he is, but he got there on clay.
It’s easy to see by his W-L record alone. From 2014 to present, Thiem is just 76-55 on hard courts (58.0%). In the same interval, he is a robust 67-23 on clay (74.4%), through Monte Carlo.
A lot of that discrepancy is probably the result of his scheduling and fatigue during the second hard court swing, which has been much debated. From 2014 to present, in hard court matches after the U.S. Open he is a mere 13-18. Take those results out of the equation, and you’re looking at 63-37 (63.0%) on hard courts. That’s still not elite (e.g., Big Four and Wawrinka), or even “very good” (e.g., Cilic, Berdych, Tsonga, etc.), but it shows a lot more potential, particularly since youth is still on his side.
I ran a surface-specific ELO on hard courts and clay courts, respectively, to see if the surface discrepancy shows up for Thiem in ELO. For instance, maybe he’s had better competition on the hard courts, exaggerating the modesty of his W-L record on hard courts. Below is a list of the 25 players with the biggest discrepancy in their clay court ELO vs hard court ELO, with a minimum of 25 matches since 2009 on each surface.
There are only a few prominent names on this list...most fill out the ATP Challenger ranks. The only consistently Top 30 players on this list are Pablo Cuevas, Thiem and Rafael Nadal. Ramos Vinolas is a more recent entry into the Top 30.
Thiem is clearly the second best player among this group on both surfaces, but that hard court ELO score barely fits in the Top 30 among hard court ELOs. He is in Gilles Simon/Philipp Kohlschreiber territory on hard courts -- and there’s certainly no shame in that -- but it belies his Top 10 ranking. The clay court ELO discrepancy does not hurt Nadal, but that’s because his hard court ELO is elite, and his clay court ELO is even more elite. He’s a giant on both.
It is hard to project that Thiem (or anyone else) will reach Nadal’s heights, but there’s no reason to believe Thiem can’t be more strategic with his scheduling to improve his results on hard courts. Considering that he already is the fourth best player in the world on clay courts behind Rafa, Novak and Andy, using clay-specific ELO, a little hard court improvement can go a long way.
____
For a reference point, the simple average of the hard court ELO scores of players with at least 25 matches on hard courts is 1,586 and the simple average of the hard court ELO scores of players with at least 25 matches on both surfaces is 1,613 (think Dudi Sela). For clay, those simple averages are 1.579 and 1,600, respectively (think Estrella Burgos).

US Open 2017: Bracket, schedule, and scores for men's draw
The 2017 US Open is here, and we have schedules, viewing information, and full results for the men’s bracket right here.
The men’s draw at the 2017 US Open, the year’s final Grand Slam, was an interesting one. We didn’t get the Rafael Nadal-Roger Federer semifinal, with Federer falling in the quarterfinals, but Nadal was able to win his second grand slam of the season.
Nadal beat No. 28 seed Ken Anderson in the final, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to win his third U.S. Open title, and his first since 2012. Nadal, who also won the French Open in 2017, has 16 grand slam titles.
The Spaniard outlasted a draw that was missing some of its biggest names. Second seed Andy Murray pulled out of the tournament less than 48 hours before the start of it. Murray is dealing with a hip injury and could not participate.
Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, and Kei Nishikori were also out of the running for various reasons, primarily injury.

US Open 2017: Bracket, schedule, and scores for men's draw
The 2017 US Open is here, and we have schedules, viewing information, and full results for the men’s bracket right here.
The men’s draw at the 2017 US Open, the year’s final Grand Slam, is an interesting one. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have been drawn into the same half and can meet in the semifinals, but other than those two, the tournament is missing some of its biggest names.
That’s especially true as second seed Andy Murray pulled out of the tournament less than 48 hours before the start of it. Murray is dealing with a hip injury and could not participate, and he joins a long list of top seeds who won’t be able to play.
Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, and Kei Nishikori are also out of the running for various reasons, primarily injury.
So it seems to be down to Federer and Nadal, who have never met at the US Open. Federer is enjoying a nice career resurgence and has beaten Nadal the last four times they have faced each other, including in the finals of the Australian Open earlier this year.
The bottom half of the bracket should be interesting, with guys like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who would have met Murray in the quarterfinals, and Alexander Zverev, who would have met Murray in the semifinals, benefiting from the lack of big names.
We’re going to have daily coverage of the year’s final Grand Slam, including brackets, viewing and live streaming information, schedules, and results, all of which you can find below.

US Open 2017 live stream: Times, TV schedule and how to watch Day 3 online
The US Open continues on Wednesday and we have all you need to know to catch the action.
Rain delayed a large portion of play at the US Open on Tuesday, so Wednesday’s action will feature a mix of first- and second-round matchups. A handful of women and only a couple of men managed to make it through on Tuesday, so there is a massive list of singles matches to be played on the day.
Alexander Zverev, the fourth seed for the men, will be in second-round action against Borna Coric. Zverev is somebody to watch as he’s in the bottom half of the bracket, essentially alone now that Andy Murray bowed out due to an injury, joining Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka, who aren’t participating.
Play on Wednesday will begin at 11 a.m. ET, though only live streaming on WatchESPN for web browsers and the ESPN App for other devices will be available at that time. Television broadcasts begin at 1 p.m. on ESPN, and will run through 6 p.m. From there, ESPN2 will carry coverage through 11 p.m. in the evening.
In addition to Zverev, another five top-10 seeds in the men’s bracket will be in action. Fifth seed Marin Cilic will take on Florian Mayer. Seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov will face Vaclav Safranek. Eighth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will take on Denis Shapovalov. Ninth seed David Goffin has a match against Julien Benneteau, and finally, American John Isner, the 10th seed, will face Hyeon Chung.
On the women’s side, Maria Sharapova will be in action after taking down the second-seeded Simona Halep on the tournament’s first day. Sharapova is unseeded and will face Timea Babos, another unseeded player, on Wednesday.
Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza are the biggest names in action for the women. Muguruza, the third seed, will take on Ying-Ying Duan while Williams will take on Oceane Dodin.
Below is all you need to know to watch the action on Wednesday, and a list of every singles matchup that involves at least one seeded player.

Wimbledon 2017: Bracket, schedule and scores for men's draw
Can Roger Federer lift his eighth Wimbledon championship? We have coverage throughout the tournament.
Wimbledon, the third and arguably biggest Grand Slam on the tennis calendar, gets underway on Monday, and it has a full field of men with a shot at capturing the title. But there’s one man, Roger Federer, who is favored to take the tournament.
Federer has won Wimbledon seven times in his career, and he sat out the clay court season and the French Open to preserve himself for the grass courts of Wimbledon.
The results seem to be paying off, and Federer will enter the tournament as the heavy favorite even over top seed Andy Murray and other high seeds like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, who won the French Open.
Murray and Djokovic have been struggling in recent tournaments, and Stan Wawrinka hasn’t looked good on the grass thus far. Nadal obviously won at Roland Garros, but he too isn’t as good as Federer on grass courts.
Coverage of all courts throughout the tournament will be available for viewing in the United States, and you won’t have to miss a match.
Below is the full bracket, television and live streaming information for watching Wimbledon in the U.S., and a full schedule/results, updated daily throughout the tournament. Wimbledon will run from Monday, July 3 through Sunday, July 16.
Bracket
Bracket courtesy of the official Wimbledon website.
Viewing information
As usual, ESPN will carry television coverage of Wimbledon in the United States. Coverage will exist primarily on the flagship ESPN network, with some coverage rolling over into ESPN2.
Online streaming of the entire Wimbledon Grand Slam will also be available, as usual, via WatchESPN and the ESPN App on various devices. All courts will be available for live streaming throughout the tournament, and you don’t have to miss a match.
Other streams can be had through services like PlayStation Vue and SlingTV, along with any others that carry ESPN in their packages.
Below is a list of days and which channels you can watch the action on, and below that is the full tournament schedule and results, updated daily.
