Tumblr media
Altogether, 665 candidates received their degrees in the ceremony. In the field of medicine, 158 students were awarded DM, MD/MS and MBBS degrees. Similarly, 94 students were awarded BDS (Dental) and 96 M.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. in Nursing degrees. Every year, at the Special Convocation, KIIT also awards degrees to the international students studying here. Among foreign students, three were awarded Ph.D. degrees, 41 received postgraduate degrees and 273 students got undergraduate degrees.
Praising KIIT, KISS, and KIMS for their efforts in empowering women, Mr. Dambajay remarked, “The real power in any household belongs to the ladies. In my country, women play a major role in society. I am happy to note that KISS also gave opportunities to young girls towards self-empowerment. In time, they will give back significantly to society.”
He encouraged the young graduates to conquer the world with their hard work and dedication towards society.
Ambassador Mr. Dambajay highlighted the historical and spiritual connections between India and Mongolia. “Mongolian-Indian relations date back to 2000 years. Monks used to come to study at Nalanda University and at a time when there were no means of transport,” he said. He also reminisced about the spiritual bond, noting, “Monks from here collected water from the River Ganga and poured it into a lake in eastern Mongolia, which came to be known as Lake Ganga.”
KIIT Chancellor Mr. Ashok Parija celebrated the students' achievements, stating, “Our students have distinguished themselves both in academics and outside.” He credited the Founder of KIIT & KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta’s  tireless dedication as the driving force behind KIIT’s success and urged the students to “embrace the challenge, be bold in your aspirations, and compassionate in your actions.”
KIIT Pro Chancellor Dr Subrata Kumar Acharya underscored the rapid strides the university has made, noting its position among the top 10 in the country by Times Higher Education.
Dr. CBK Mohanty, Pro Vice Chancellor of the School of Medicine, addressed the graduating students, stating, “This is the end of your educational careers, but this is the stepping stone for the future to achieve milestones. Please seek a dream for a brighter future, plan, and pursue a good life ahead.”
Vice Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh highlighted the university’s international collaborations, stating, “More than 20 MoUs have been signed with international universities, including a cluster of 22 US universities.” He proudly noted that KIIT’s TBI has won the Successful Incubator Award by Startup Odisha and celebrated five students who have qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Health on Wheels | Mobile Medical Clinic | Aahwahan Foundation
We at Aahwahan Foundation believe in “Giving is not about donating, it’s about making a difference”. By keeping this authentic belief as our motto we do the transformation by adopting 5 innovative strategies which include women empowerment, community development, health, education, and environment.
Taking about the health strategy, in particular, we do several projects that include health centers which are at present 3064 registered doctors are working under this programmer, the second one is Doctor at School where Teachers/Doctors educates and doing the regular checkups school children about basic health and hygiene. The third one is Mobile medical Clinic where a Complete PHC is set up provided in a van which moves from village to village routine wise and last but not the least is Health on Wheels where Mobile Medical Clinic provided for Marginal Communities.
If we talk about Health on the wheel. It is one of the most important strategies for health development. It is one of our latest service for rural healthcare.  Why rural health care? There is much factual based information that shows how the health facility in rural care is not up to the mark. The Hospitals in rural India are overburdened, the number of staff is not as per requirement, and most importantly the hospitals are very ill-equipped. The equipment that is needed for the checkups is very less in numbers as per the population of the village. From the official data, it has been said that the doctor-patient ratio in India is less than the WHO prescribed limit of 1:1000 which is very daunting in itself.
Tumblr media
Keeping all these points in mind, the features that we provided in our mobile medical van is somewhere or other is very beneficial for the society.  One of these features includes our mobile medical van which can provide cost-effective treatment to people in rural areas. Our mobile van comprises a driver, a nurse, and a doctor visiting one village per day so there will not be any deficiency of health workers. All our health workers from the nurse to the doctor are available in the mobile van every time. These staffs are well trained and ready to serve people without making them wait for long. We give them the best services available.
Not only that we provide Outpatient Physical Therapy to patients in inaccessible rural areas which is now lacking somewhere. The patient is provided with proper therapies that help them to fight their problems.  If talking about the timing and availability of mobile van service, we have solution for that too. The schedule would be shared in advance with the villagers for better coordination. The advance shared schedule by the organization helps the villagers in minimal wastage of time and they can easily take time for the treatment. So it will not only help the people to manage properly but also give the organization a chance to serve better.
Even during this pandemic we with the help of our mobile van services try to work a lot. Infect At present, the mobile medical van is used to fight against COVID-19. About COVID relief activity We have spread awareness about Covid-19 in over 271 villages, 46 slums 28 small towns We have so far distributed ration and health kits to 6,20,000 families across Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and parts of Odisha. We have helped so far with 27,010 individual consultations.  In this activity, we visit various slums in urban settings and rural areas to conduct testing for diabetes & other illness
Tumblr media
Our people are our priority, we never take any risk with them. We refer the cases to the public health authorities when the situation demands. We care for them and that why we do the required and be more flexible according to the need of people. Our constant efforts have touched the lives of people. We believe in community development. Urbanization has had an impact on the traditional economic systems in the country and has shifted the socioeconomic preferences. The socioeconomic growth and wellbeing of people are so interconnected, that it is not feasible to ignore any one of them. Hence, we have teamed with a wide cross-section of people to bring about a transformation in the rural environment.

"I want to convert Hindus to Hinduism..."
Tumblr media
In 1938, Jawaharlal Nehru started a newspaper called National Herald to act as a voicepiece for the Indian National Congress in its fight for India's independence. Its motto was - Freedom is in peril. Defend it with all your might.
A few years later, the newspaper attracted a young journalist in his late twenties - Balakrishnan Menon, who soon became known for his straight forward, incisive and hard hitting writings on politico-socio-economic conditions of the time.
Tumblr media
Not only did Balan, as he was called, hit out against the British, he was also sceptical of the countless Hindu sadhus and sanyasis he had met right from his childhood. So, in a spur of journalistic zeal, in 1947, he set out for Rishikesh, to Swami Sivananda's ashram - The Divine Life Society - to write an exposé of the sadhus. He wanted to find out how the sadhus were "keeping up the bluff amongst the masses." He gave himself two days to achieve his objective.
It so happened that he stayed in the ashram for close to a month, and when he came back, the Sceptic had turned Seeker. In due course, the Seeker returned to Rishikesh, took diksha or initiation, became a monk, realised himself, took the country by storm, became an apostle of Hindu renaissance, went global, took the world by storm, came back and founded the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. He spent his life teaching Hinduism to Hindus. The Seeker had turned Master!
The sceptic, Balakrishnan Menon, had become the consummate Jnana Yogi, Swami Chinmayananda.
Therein lies a tale!
Tumblr media
Balakrishna Menon was born in Ernakulam, Kerala, in 1916, in a very well-to-do family. His father was a prominent judge. He completed his graduation in Kerala and went to Lucknow to do his post-graduation in Literature and Law, while parallely pursuing a course in Journalism. Though he hailed from a religious family, he had a superficial interest of the strict religious routines and followed them mechanically. His first real brush with spirituality was in 1936, when he visited the eminent sage, Sri Ramana Maharshi. By his own account, when Ramana Maharshi looked at him, he experienced a thrill of spiritual enlightenment which, at the time, he promptly rationalised as being mere hypnotism.
Balan joined the independence movement, especially the Quit India movement in 1942 and subsequent initiatives and was promptly arrested for his efforts. In jail, he fell sick and caught typhus. In the middle of the night, he was dragged to the road and left there to die. Some kind soul took him and nursed him back to health. He recovered and in due course, joined the National Herald as a journalist, where he earned quite a good name for himself. And then Rishikesh happened.
So, at the age of 31, he came back from Swami Sivanand's ashram in Rishikesh, a sceptic-turned-seeker and began reading the Hindu scriptures and other spiritual books. He couldn't survive the world for long. On 25th February, 1949, aged 33, Balakrishnan Menon renounced the world, and was reborn as Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati, under the initiation of the very man he had set out to expose. The below snap captures that day. The imposing hulk of a man, fourth from your left is Swami Sivananda. The guy next to him is Swami Chinmayananda.
Tumblr media
Recognizing Chinmayananda's sharp intellect and inclination towards knowledge, Swami Sivanada sent him to one of the greatest Vedantic masters of his time, Swami Tapovan Maharaj of Uttarkashi. Chinmayananda devoted the next few years of his life to an intensive study of Vedanta under his tutelage, leading an extremely austere lifestyle and undergoing a rigorous study of the scriptures. In just two short years, the once rational skeptic gained inner peace and spiritual enlightenment. Here is a photo of Swami Chinmayananda at the feet of his guru, Swami Tapovan Maharaj.
Tumblr media
In 1951, with his Guru's blessings, he left the Himalayas on an all-India tour to visit places of worship and to see how Hindu religious heritage was being handed down. He was extremely disappointed with what was doled out in the name of Hinduism. So, on 23rd December, 1951, in Pune, he organized the first of his many, many Jnana Yagnas - lectures on Hindu scriptures, in English! This was practically unheard of. Till then, scriptures were taught to select males, in Sanskrit. This first Jnana Yagna was held in a temple, men and women of all strata were invited. Only seven people came for the first few days. Slowly, things changed. His second Jnana Yagna held in Madras had to be an outdoor event.
Tumblr media
At the end of the Madras Gnana Yagna, a few people came and expressed the desire to create a forum for the study and discussion of Vedanta. Hence was born the Chinmaya Mission, on 8th August, 1953. Today, Chinmaya Mission Trust administers Chinmaya Vidyalayas (schools), Bala Vihars (study groups for children), Chinmaya Yuva Kendras (the global youth wing) and Devi Groups (study groups for adults).
What made Swami Chinmayananda connect so well with his listeners was his simple and contemporary way of explaining complicated stuff.
Tumblr media
In 1965, Swami Chinmayananda set out on his first global teaching tour, covering 39 cities in 18 countries - Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, United States, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Lebanon. Many such trips followed. His fame had spread to all parts of the globe.
Eventually, Chinmaya Mission West was formed to co-ordinate the growing spiritual movement in the United States. And, Chinmaya International Foundation, an international library and research center, was also founded in the village Veliyanad, in Eranakulam District in Kerala.
Soon dignitaries from around the world were coming to meet him. In 1981, the Dalai Lama met him in his Sidhbari ashram in Himachal Pradesh.
Tumblr media
In 1964, RSS pracharak S S Apte and Swami Chinmayananda founded the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, with the objective of introducing the glory of Hinduism to the global diaspora. As Swamiji put it succinctly, the VHP aimed to convert Hindus back to Hinduism.
Post script:
Today, there are about 80 Chinmaya Vidyalayas in India and one outside India, in Trinidad, West Indies. Out of these 81 is a Chinmaya Vidyalaya in a small village in Odisha, called Therubali. I did my schooling, right from KG to Std XII from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Therubali.
Tumblr media
I dedicate this post to the sceptic Balan, who turned Seeker, had the guts to find his Guru and become a Master - Swami Chinmayananda.
I also dedicate this post to my batch of 1995, who got together recently. We put together a nice little video.

In the fifth and final tranche of the economic stimulus package, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman raised allocation for employment guarantee scheme by Rs 40,000 crore over and above the Rs 61,000 crore budgeted earlier for MGNREGS, to provide employment to migrant workers moving back to their states. This, she said, will help generate nearly 300 crore person-days in total. For industries, she said the minimum threshold to initiate insolvency proceedings will be raised to Rs 1 crore from Rs 1 lakh, which largely insulates micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from bankruptcy on defaulting on loans. Also, a special insolvency resolution framework for MSMEs under Section 240A of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) will be notified soon, she said adding that fresh initiation of insolvency proceedings will be suspended up to one year depending upon the pandemic situation. Coronavirus-related debt will be excluded from the definition of "default" under the IBC for the purpose of triggering insolvency proceedings, she said adding that the changes will be effected by promulgating an ordinance. Additionally, minor technical and procedural defaults under the Companies Act such as shortcomings in CSR reporting, inadequacies in board report, filing defaults, and delay in holding AGM will be decriminalised. Last week, the government pledged a Rs 20 lakh crore (nearly 10 per cent of gross domestic product) package to support the economy headed for its first full-year contraction in more than four decades. Lifetime Achievement in Education Leadership: Achyuta Samanta
Having born in Kalarabank, a remote village in the Cuttack district of Odisha, Samanta was one of the six children of an employee at a steel plant. Samanta, along with his siblings experienced acute poverty after his father died in a train accident in 1970. In his interview to EducationWorld that published a cover story on KISS/KIIT in April 2012, Samanta said, “It had become a routine for us in those difficult times to have one square meal in a couple of days. My mother did not have a second saree to change into after having a bath at the village river.”

Continuing his education at the village school, Samanta went on to earn a scholarship to the SCS College in Puri in 1984. During the course of his study, Dr. Achyuta Samanta also supported himself by delivering private tuitions. His self-studying of 18 hours every day while surviving on Rs. 200 per month, reaped results in 1987 when he got a Masters in Chemistry from the Utkal University. This accomplishment landed him the job of a lecturer at D.K. College in Jaleswar. After contributing to the college for a duration of 4 years from 1987 to 1991, Samanta moved on to Maharishi College, Bhubaneswar. In 1993, despite suffering societal indifference and public ridicule, Samanta started promoting KISS or Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences. Since that time, KISS has successfully graduated 3, 248 Class X and 2, 241 Class XII tribal children, thus transforming Eastern India and more importantly Odisha into one of the fast-track industrial regions and states in India.

Samanta started promoting KIIT or Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in 1992 and the university introduced its first undergraduate programme in 1997. Since then, the institute has laid the foundation of 23 professional education schools that offer courses in medical, nursing, dental, law, business management, rural management, fashion, film and media sciences, spiritualism, yoga and bio-technology. Currently, the KIIT boasts of 1, 200 faculty members and 2, 300 support staff offering their services to more than 15, 250 students. The KIIT also features 19 world-class campuses spread over a built-up area of 8 million square feet, covering 350 acres of land across Bhubaneswar.
KIIT ranks among the top 100 non-IIT engineering colleges in India and has contributed 11, 957 graduates, 7, 914 postgraduates and 61 doctorates to the Indian society. KISS that offers free of cost undergraduate and K-XII education to 15, 000 first generation students speaking 30 tribal dialects, is an even greater achievement of Dr. Achyuta Samanta. Featuring a 50 kw solar power unit; fully mechanized kitchen that serves 45, 000 meals every day in a dining hall with a seating capacity of 10, 000 and an RO water filtration system that supplies 100, 000 litres of potable water regularly, KISS is the largest boarding school in the world. It covers a built-up area of 600, 000 square feet with 15, 000 students residing in its 10 dormitories well-equipped with 11, 000 2-tier and 3-tier beds along with 800 toilets and 800 shower-bathrooms.
For such amazing contributions towards the upliftment of Indian education and the tribal children, Dr. Achyuta Samanta has been presented the Lifetime Achievement in Education Leadership 2013 Award by the Board of Directors and Editors of Education World.
