The page is pristine. Torn cleanly from the journal. Handed from her hands to his.
Dearest brother,
I say this as politely as I possibly can, with as much respect as is due, which is much respect indeed.
Shut the fuck up forever I hope you die in a car crash.
The novel charm of your endless insistence on insulting literally everyone because you’re a miserable bastard has worn off.
I know my company is questionable. However, it is my choice to keep their company and no one else’s. Your insistence on my cutting down contact is not only inappropriate, but also just makes me want to hang out with these weird freaks more.
I understand your apprehensions, trust me I don’t trust anyone here besides you and Diomedes.
If I am being honest, I’m at a point where I’ve become warey of even Ikora and Zavala. They seem far too willing to accept means I myself find questionable… but perhaps Cayde’s death simply tainted the well in a way only blood can.
I miss him more now than before. No one seems to know what our next move is, and I find I’m more in need of his debonair guidance than ever. Funny once someone’s gone you need them the most.
But in his absence, and I know you have great objections, Drifter is as good friend to me as a man like him can be. He’s a worthwhile ally even if I do view him as a snake does a cat in the midst of mice running amuck. A means to an end. Allies only in the face of a more pressing enemy.
But besides that… he makes me laugh. Which is a rare trait. Where I find my kinship is my decision. And mine alone.
And on the matter of Crow… you keep your talons out of business. And my feelings on any matters are mine to discuss and discern and mine alone! So…. Stay out of it!
And tell Diomedes the same, or I’ll remind you both why gods tremble at my name.
Lowest regards,
ad infinitum F. Ash
