mitzi's pearl necklace as a microcosm for this whole mess....

it's a symbol of her life with Atlas and her relationship with him -- she sees it as a way that Atlas made her a 'a lady', made her feel like she wasn't 'tawdry' (note how easily she slips into reminiscing about the memories linked to it, even to Zib, who knows the story). Atlas probably purchased it with blood money. Once the necklace snaps, it's basically impossible to put it back together without covering yourself in gutter dirt, but she can't bring herself to let go. She eventually gets the physical symbol of the memories back(rethreading the necklace), but it's a hollow victory. It won't bring back Atlas, and it comes at the cost of collateral damage (rip virgil) and alienating Zib.

Mitzi, you can't go back! you can fight and scratch and claw but you can never go back! What you are searching for is not something that can be put back together. girl, you are looking back, and you are getting lost.

i also made playlists of the kind of music i think they'd listen to :') you can listen to spot's here. most tracks fall under the hardcore subgenre, but there's also a good amount of ska and pop. generally has a chaotic, garage, and/or dated kind of sound, really wanted the kind of stuff that scratches my brain in a specific, rough way

there's also sarah's playlist, which i'm less confident about because i'm wayyy more immersed in punk subculture and music. but. i tried! some gothic rock, mostly punkabilly and gothabilly. i feel like she'd be into music that has that campy slasher feel, so that's the overall mood i was gunning for

and you get so used to the feeling of it being there, the weight and pressure and texture slowly making itself a part of you

and then something happens. a forgetful moment, and accident, Something happens, and suddenly you're without this object that had become a part of who you are

and you feel so empty, so exposed without it. the feeling of it is gone, the patch of skin that had become so used to being covered is suddenly out in the open, and it's Not a good feeling

Meditation is one method Copperhead usually finds himself falling back on whenever he wishes to calm down? Settling himself into a comfortable position, contorting his body in ways other people would think must hurt is what works for him, maintaining complicated positions while letting his mind drift. His breathing slows to a crawl, heart beating just a few times a minute for as long as he's in this state and it goes a long way in helping him regain control, especially after a bad lapse or stressful period where he feels control slipping. In a group setting, this would be much harder. In such a situation, Copperhead would sooner pull away, find a dark corner in which to to brood for a while. He's not the type to open up and talk about his feelings, preferring very much to remain solitary and it's hard for anybody to know whether or not he's upset, his face showing so little expression compared to most other people. The only outward signs of being upset Copperhead might show is his hood flaring, the tip of his tail ratting so hard his scales make audible sound. If Copperhead can, he'll disassociate from the situation altogether, soothing himself with gestures such as digging his claws into his palms or coiling up into himself.

random OC ask: what are some things your OC never leaves home without?

this can be both practical (their typical tools, notable accessories, etc.) and narrative (items that have personal importance to them, etc.)

Siobhan always carries a staff or bow with her. She doesn’t go looking for fights but living outside of the relative safety of the city walls for most of her life taught her that it doesn’t matter what she’s looking for. Plus having a highly visible weapon that marks her as a spellcaster like a staff is a good deterrent to most vagabonds and ruffians.

She doesn’t have much when it comes to items of personal significance, she basically lived as a hermit her whole life but she does have the necklace she was wearing the day she lost her parents. It’s a simple chain with a charm that has an oak tree and words in elvish reading “forest lord”. Her parents didn’t talk much about religion or the gods (they said they would tell her if she wanted to know but being like 14, 15 she wasn’t the most interested in her religious calling yet). She assumes the charm is for Silvanus.

im thinking about friendship necklaces.

its sad when you see a lone friendship necklace in a charity shop or something, there's a story behind that. behind why it got donated. what happened to that friendship?

but i think it would be worse if the two were there. there's so much that could mean. did the friends decide to donate their old necklaces together? something bittersweet.

are they two different necklaces with completely different origins that just happen to match each other? that would be nice. to find your other half in a complete stranger, someone who wasnt meant to be yours but fits anyway.

or did they never get given to someone. did the person who donated those two necklaces hold onto them for so long, hoping that one day they'd finally have a friend to give them to, only for that day to never come?
