#Okafor loved his secrets

Text
I’m very surprised there is an “Okafor is for the resistance” theory circulating in the fandom. ‘He is fomenting a soft coup within the military to peacefully give power to the Civic Republic once the time comes.’ I’m hearing this going, what? I feel like the odd one out! What am I seeing differently?
Maybe it’s my interpretation of his vision: “Monsters that kill the monsters—that’ll be over soon.”
Okafor speaks well and is charismatic but that’s the trick. He doesn’t care about anyone’s freedom, including Rick’s or even his own. He’s a villain—someone to test our two heros’ limits and their beliefs, not support them. Well, if he and Beale were on the same path of destruction and control when they ‘recruited’ Rick and gassed Omaha, then they only disagreed on the tactics of the CRM’s coup of the Civic Republic. They split on something more subtle; Okafor wanted a soft coup but Beale wants a hard coup.
What does that make our heroes, Rick and Michonne? I think for Rick the question will be, to inherent the Lieutenant Colonel’s vision and change it, at risk of losing everything to Major General Beale—or to abandon the Civic Republic’s fight for the safety and comfort of family if he can? I think 1x02 will bring Michonne’s years gone by and her inner conflict into play. As always, she will lead Rick to make the right choice, which will affect a lot of people. ❤️
Even if I’m wrong, at some point I’m gonna argue why we should dislike Okafor and appreciate him as a villain. Think I’ll make it part of a 1x01 analysis thread: Rick, Pearl and Donald: CRM’s Alliance of Three.

Not so tough now huh? CRM!Rick
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: ok so I watched the first episode and I just felt the urge to write for him immediately. I couldn't resist... so here you sluts go! enjoy and happy reading!<33 This is also based on this moodboard made by the lovely @angelicalhqrt
Summary: You were tough but Rick was tougher and afterall, you were still just a horny girl...
Word count:2.0k
Pairing: crm!rick x fem!fighter!reader
Warnings: smut~fighting~sexual tension~readers tough but Ricks tougher~horny thoughts~lots of yearning and physical touch~PiV sex~unprotected sex~(wrap it b4 you tap it)~slight age gap { readers in her early 30s and Rick is mid 40s}
Tumblr media
You and Rick didn't get along. Well, you guys got along but you didn't at the same time if that makes any sense at all.
You both couldn't stand each other yet always found yourselves around each other. It's like you were constantly drawn to him and as he was to you.
It seemed as if you guys had this mutual respect to leave each other alone but in this line of work, you guys were always around one another.
Especially now that Okafor has asked you and Rick to work together to re-shape the CRM. He wants the A's to be able to lead the CRM and change the way they do things. Lead the B's to stop being so scared.
Of course Rick was against it and was very confused. "I don't give a shit about this A's and B's shit Okafor. I'm not livin' here! I'm not happy here, I'm certainly not going to give my life for a place I can't leave. For a place and their bullshit secrets." He protests.
"Rick. You think you have a choice? Now that you joined and are no longer a consignee, I need you. You will do this because you shouldn't even be alive with how many times you've tried to escape. You and bullet over here are special assets to this plan and whether you like it or not, your doing this."
Bullet was the nickname he gave you because you shot at him and grazed his forehead after he tried to rescue you. You needed to get back to your sister, you didn't want to be taken by a strange man and taken to a strange secret city that no one knows about.
"Rick. Just stop fighting it. I learned to stop fighting it long time ago. We've been here for six years. It's time to let go. Whoever your trying to get to just forget it. There alive but in here we can die at the snap of Beales fingers. So please..." You plead looking at him with a stone cold face but a hint of sympathy and concern.
"Whatever." He says gruffly before listening to the rest of what Okafor was saying.
The next day you and Rick and all the other soldiers are training. Obviously yet again, you get partnered with Rick. Your spinning your knife in your hand as you look at him with a slight smirk on your face.
You lunged at him and he blocked it and when you tried again he turned you around and had his arm around your neck and your back to his chest. You feel his warm breath on your cheek.
Your wiggling against him and he grunts in your ear. You try to pry his hand off your neck and flip him over and down to the ground but it was true, he was tougher and much stronger than you.
He pushes you and lets you go. you stumble but turn around standing your ground and facing him with your knife in hand and fists up. You lunge back at him and cut his hand, the one that's still attached of course.
He groans and holds his wrist. "Fuck." He yells out and you smirk at him. "Wouldn't fighting be much easier if you didn't cut off your hand Mr. Grimes?" You say with a slight chuckle.
He quickly turns back and the punches you in your face. You stumble back and wipe the blood that's made its way to your lip.
"Wow. That was a hell of a good punch Grimes." You say smirking and licking your lips. "Thanks bullet." He says smirking at you with his signature look.
You roll your eyes and punch his chest and he tries to hit you again but your duck and serve him a nice right hook. He stumbles back and when you try to punch his face again he grabs your right fist and slowly brings it down twisting it and hurting your wrist.
When you try the other hand to catch him off guard he dodges it and knees you in your stomach before punching your ribs.
You cry out and he lets go of your hand as you grab at your side and stomach. You glare at him from your hunched over position and then you swiftly get down and swipe your leg under his making fall.
You get on top of him and punch him in the face. You see his nose bleeding and his cheek is starting to bruise. You punch once more before a guard yells at you enough.
You get off Rick and look around at everyone looking at you before you look back at Rick on the floor and you scoff before walking away and slamming the door as you walk out.
You take the wrappings aggressively off your hands as you walk to your room. 'At least you had rooms and comfy beds here', you thought.
Where you came from you had to make do with dusty comforters and blankets on the cold, hard floor of an old abandoned building.
At least you had your sister, now you have no clue where she is... Broken out of your thoughts you hear a knock on the door.
You ignore it the first time quietly muttering a go away. When the knocks happen again you groan and get up.
As you open the door your met with Rick pushing past you and rushing into your room.
He's got a patch on his eyebrow to close up his wound with the stitches and his cheekbone is now bruised a darker color then before. Even his hand is all bandaged up.
"What the hell was that huh? Why'd ya go all psyco on me? What did I do to you huh?" He says pacing the room as he thrashes his hands around.
"I did it... because I wanted to." You whisper as you step closer to him with a neutral look on your face. You were unfazed by his act at trying to intimidate you.
"Oh really huh?" He asks stepping real close to you. Suddenly you really notice how dark his eyes are.
Even in this piss poor lighting. He looked looming and scary. Your facade falters immediately as he backs you up against the door.
The tension in the room changing slightly from anger to something more intimate...more primal. It excited you yet scared you.
You really didn't know Rick like that at all. You don't know how crazy he is- I mean besides the fact he cut off his own hand.
Your thoughts began to drift at how he looks. His brown curls framing his face perfectly, his beard full, nice and clean with greys decorating it.
You looked at the outfit he was wearing. A tight black shirt that hugged his body in all the right places with black cargo pants.
He looked...hot. Intimidating.Sexy. Dominant...I mean there were many words to describe Rick. He brought something out of you that you didn't like. He made you excited and wet at the slightest touch.
This interaction bringing back memories to 3 days ago.
{Flashback}
"Rick! Wait up!" You call out to him.
He was walking down the street in his combat outfit.
"Wassup bullet?" He asked with that look in his eyes. 'God that look does things to me,' you thought.
He looked like he wanted to throw you against the wall and eat you.
"I-I wanted to say good luck out there. Okafor can be pushing and hard to deal with." You say with a closed lip smile.
He nods and looks you up and down before speaking, "Thanks for the luck. I assumed i'll be needin' it. Especially by you." He says smirking at you.
That's the moment you knew that he knew, that he knows he makes you nervous. He would make any girl nervous. Eyelashes fluttering at the sound of his rough southern drawl. Sounding all sexy and wise.
That deep voice and pretty smirk on his face. The way his eyes will trace your body and your face as if he's remembering every tiny detail about you like a robot.
You swallow hard and you swear he could hear your heart rapidly beating, 'God girl get it together!' You immediately nodded your head before walking off and leaving him to stand there.
He watched as you walked away all flustered and cute. He chuckled to himself as you looked back and watched him walk away now.
{end of flashback}
You look up at him as he looks down at you with a smirk. His head tilted slightly to the side.
"Whatcha thinking about sweetheart?" He asks with a smirk. You roll your eyes and scoff trying to act tough.
"Nothing Rick. Get out." You demanded as you pushed past him walking towards your bed.
You didn't notice he was silently following you and he ended up behind you with his crotch to your ass and his hands on your hips.
"Why don't you stop this tough act baby and lemme take you right here hmm mama? Would you like that instead? Fuck that attitude right outta ya?" He says in a low seductive voice.
Shivers ran down your back as he said that. His words repeating like a mantra in your head over and over again. You wanted so badly for him to take you right here.
"fuck, yea I want that real bad." You mutter and he smirks as he starts kissing your neck and behind you ear. He slides his pants down and rips his cock free from the bondage of his boxers.
He removes your pants leaving you in your panties. When he slowly removes your panties they reveal your soaked cunt.
"Fuck mama, your soaked." He says with a chuckle. You whimper and grind against him. "Please Rick...I need you i-inside." You whine.
He chuckles and without warning slides in. As much as he wants to tease you, he doesn't have the patience tonight. Maybe next time..
Just thinking about being able to fuck you like this again, his hips roughly thrusting into you as your eyes roll to the back of your head or cross at your nose made his cock twitch.
Just looking at your body exposed and vulnerable to him made his cock jump with excitement to be buried so deep inside you. He kissed and sucked at yor neck leaving hickies people will surely be asking about later.
He was proud to mark you up as his. You cry out and scream out as his cock brushes your cervix just right. His cock hitting that sweet spot inside you that had you shaking intensely when your orgasm rolled around.
"fuck Rick! I-I'm gonna c-cum Rick! Oh shit, please lemme cum!" You beg. He looked at you and pouted.
"You wanna cum babygirl? Hmm?" He asks tauntingly. You quickly shake your head yes as he shakes his head and clicks his tongue. "Words baby. I need words." He said moving his hand up your chest slowly to lightly grip your throat.
You moan out as you grab his arm and your eyes roll back before you mutter out a little, "Yes Rick! I'm gonna cum, please?" You beg again hoping he has mercy on you.
"I'll allow you to cum but next time I won't be so nice babygirl." He says before thrusting into you with such force it makes your headboard thump against the wall.
You didn't want a noise complaint but the way your oragsm ripped through you, you honestly couldn't care.
"oh fuck!" Rick grunts out before he quickly pulls out and jerks off. You quickly scoot down and open your mouth for him to cum all on your face and tongue. You moan in pleasure as his warm seed spills all on your face.
When you swallow the amount that went into your mouth, you smile at him before licking the rest of by using your finger to apply it in your mouth.
He groans at the sight and he lifts you up placing you neatly and softly on your bed. Your so drunk off his cock that when he goes to try and get a warm cloth for you you grab his arm stopping him.
"Please stay with me. I don't wanna be alone... not tonight." You whisper. He smiles and nods before crawling his way into bed with you rubbing soft circles on your waist as you drift of to sleep.

♥️Reveling in Richonne - TOWL
#55: The Future Generations (1.06)
Tumblr media
gif cred: @ricksmarlene
The CRM was so convinced that they were creating a better world for future generations but they failed to see how they’re actually destroying and traumatizing the youth and those that survive their horrible attacks. But fortunately, Rick and Michonne see right through them. 👌🏽 And what I see within these next scenes is the most gorgeous shot of Richonne of all time 🤩...
Beale and Rick continue their meeting and Beale reveals that, similar to Okafor, he also sacrificed people he cared about, his home, and the whole city of Pittsburg for the “greater good” of saving Philadelphia.
Then Beale says, “It’s not exactly tearing into a person with your canines, but it’s not nothing. isn’t that right?” Why do I have a feeling that of all the soldiers he’s asked that same question of what’s the worst thing you’ve done, Rick gave Beale the craziest answer he’s ever heard lol? 🤭
Rick replies, “No it’s not nothing, sir...My dad taught me, for better or worse…some things have to burn to bring things back.” And Beale agrees with that line of thinking, saying, “It was that. The sword that kills is the sword that brings life. I killed my past and a whole city so another could live.”
Whenever I hear Beale talk about the sword bringing life I always think Rick would agree with him it’s just Beale’s talking about the wrong sword.
Tumblr media
Also, it’s interesting hearing Beale say he killed his past because the CRM nearly killed Rick’s past too by taking away the images of his loved ones from his mind. But fortunately, the sword-wielding woman who gives Rick life helped restore what the CRM tried to take from him. 😇
Beale tells Rick the first secret which is that the most likely outcome is they’re all gonna die. And then we see Michonne enter an auditorium where a projector shows a bunch of photos of little kids as a robotic-sounding soldier goes over the Child Evacuation Protocol of their horrific Operation N1W.
Tumblr media
Then y’all, we’re hit with a stunning shot of Rick and Michonne in that candlelit bed scene, and the lighting and framing of it all is perfect. 🙌🏽
And of course, now that Michonne is no longer facing away from Rick they’re back up on each other as expected. 😊 Michonne looks up at Rick with her ring-clad hand on his face as she says, “So, we’re born this way.” And the eye contact. 🫠 My goodness, they invented chemistry. 💯
They cut to several more clips of Richonne kicking butt in TWD that just further hammers home that they’re cut from the same cloth. And then Rick smiles down at Michonne and says, “I guess so.”
I love that Rick and Michonne found someone who matches their crazy and their fighting spirit so much to where they can both just know 'we were born like this and that’s okay.' In fact, being a bit certifiably crazy is part of why they’re still here. 👌🏽 And they're crazy about each other which is part of what makes this story about 'crazy love' so golden.
Tumblr media
Back in the echelon briefing, Rick learns that according to Beale humans only have 14 years left before extinction and that’s why the CRM does what it does.
Rick inquires about what they do and Beale says, “We’re trying to beat the odds, Grimes.” Then they cut to more TWD clips of Rick and Michonne, and I like how intercutting between Rick and Michonne clips really makes it feel like these two are one being. The baddest being. 😌
Tumblr media
Michonne is appalled by what she is learning in the auditorium and Rick is appalled by what he’s learning in the briefing as Beale finally shares what the CRM is really up to. Beale says that they destroy other communities for resources, strategic superiority, and the CRM's favorite line “to ensure the city’s secrecy and security above all.”
I like the parallel clips they use of Rick looking up at a helicopter in TWD season 8 and in TOWL ep 1, as he learns that these helicopters he saw were likely heading out to cause some serious destruction.
Michonne sits in the auditorium as it's revealed that the CRM intends to evacuate 10% of the children before the area is gassed and its population is liquidated. And you already know none of this is happening on Mama Michonne’s watch. She’s going to fight for these kids and her kids because clearly, this 'last light of the world' doesn’t care who they hurt.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @nerd4music
And I know after having been gassed herself, Michonne is especially horrified that they intend to do it again to tons of innocent people.
Meanwhile, Beale tells Rick they have spies throughout the world to monitor and potentially sabotage others. Jadis must have been trying to win Spy of the Month, the way she stayed sabotaging Richonne and team family back in the day. 😒
Tumblr media
Beale says the CRM was behind destroying Omaha and in 18 hours they’ll destroy Portland to become the supreme force on the continent.
And then we’re blessed with another great shot of Rick and Michonne in bed as Rick says they’ll tell the Civic Republic the truth about what the CRM does, like the bombing.
Rick says “if they won’t who will?” as Michonne intently says, “No one” and I admit I’m not the craziest about this dialogue but what it lacks in subtlety it more than makes up for with the stunning visual.
Because then Rick notes that they don’t leave people behind and Michonne affirms that this is what they do and y’all the visual of her sliding her ring-clad hand in his hair as they look at each other…Put it in the Louvre. 🤩🖼
This gorgeous visual right here is truly my favorite Richonne visual of all time. 👏🏽 These two are some serious stunners and this shot is a mesmerizing work of art. 😍🔥
Tumblr media
gif cred: @lousolversons
Beale continues to give Rick the 411 on what they’re about to do and he’s so emotionally removed from the fact that he’s talking about wiping out a whole city of people. That alone lets you know his brand of crazy is a major problem and Rick can sense that too as he starts to reach for his knife.
Beale also says they’ll continue to take the resources of even more communities they find, which means eventually they’ll end up on ASZ's doorstep.
As Beale says, “Maybe we get to survive'' there are quick clips shown from several surviving members of the TWD cast. Michonne then radios Rick in the auditorium while she listens to the soldiers talk in a cold and disconnected manner about the trauma they’re bound to put these kids through.
Tumblr media
In the final bedroom scene, Rick continues to go over he and Michonne’s plan and he lets her know to key the walkie if anything changes and then he’ll get back to her when he can. Hearing that is always sweet to me because even with the stuff he has to take care of with the plan, he wants her to be assured he’ll get to her if she needs him.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @nat111love
Looking like a beautiful mermaid, Michonne says, “if I can be gotten back to.” 🧜🏾‍♀️ And then Rick’s walkie goes off in the briefing. 😬
Beale notices and Rick is quick on his feet saying it was just Thorne. Back in the auditorium, Danai does a great job communicating Michonne’s horror even through a mask as the CRM soldier continues their cold and emotionally detached speech even calling the stuffed animals “comfort items” to “furnish” the children with.
Tumblr media
As the projector lands on the final image of a young Black boy (which I like how Danai wanted that pic to be the final one to connect to Michonne’s kids RJ and Andre) we then get more TWD clips of the adorable Grimes kids. And I like how each clip feels like it embodies a different season - fall, winter, summer.
There’s Carl smiling on those train tracks. 😭 Judith smiling and hugging Michonne in the snow. 😭 And RJ’s adorable little smile at the beach. 😭 And then, having seen enough, Michonne makes her way out of the auditorium.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like here is a good time to note something regarding the CRM too. I know some felt like the handling of the CRM was rushed in TOWL and wanted it to be explored more in the show, but I think the CRM/Civic Repiblic was actually intended to be more of an arena for a far more personal story being told in The Ones Who Live.
This show was more about Rick and Michonne navigating a journey to overcome a lot of internal imprisonment, and the CRM was always explored in relation to that more contained and personal story of these two characters finding themselves and each other again.
At least in TOWL (I can’t really speak on any other spinoff show in the twdu since I don't watch them) we’re always seeing the CRM through the lens of how it impacts Rick and Michonne specifically. The CRM makes Rick lose himself, they make Michonne nearly lose her life when they gas her and her friends, they almost cause a major wedge in Richonne’s relationship and nearly keep them from going home together.
The CRM had done a lot of damage throughout the miniseries so it’s not like their impact isn’t felt, it's just not necessarily dived into on a grander scale outside of Rick and Michonne because this is Rick and Michonne’s story.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @nat111love
This miniseries was always meant to give Richonne closure, not launch the next ten years of the twdu. So for me personally, I was more than fine with Richonne getting substantially more focus than the CRM stuff.
Also, one of the main things to acknowledge about the CRM is that it makes everyone lose themselves. All these soldiers become faceless cogs in the machine, devoid of caring about anything other than the mission.
We see this with Pearl becoming a convert and becoming so obsessively mission-minded. That’s what the CRM does to its soldiers - strips them of what makes them human, so they can just obediently go along with these heinous acts for the so-called greater good. So in a sense, the way the CRM felt faceless and distant might’ve been the point. That’s what you have to be to belong to this military.
Tumblr media
And lifeless and distant is what the CRM nearly made Rick. However, what we saw in TOWL's actual core plot is that Rick did devastatingly lose himself but he found himself again when his other half reentered his life.
In fact, Rick is fully cognizant of the fact that his beloved wife and son are why he didn’t succumb to losing himself and being in the same emotionally numb state that Beale, Okafor, Jadis, and Pearl ended up in.
And in his final confrontation with Beale, Rick makes it known the ones who truly give him something to live for. 😌👌🏽

I came into TOWL fully like, "I'm mildly curious.". I left with a sticky note of excited thoughts I couldn't contain during the episode.
First - general thoughts:
I don't know how to describe to you how much joy it brings my PA-loving heart to find out the secret city where this plot has been set is Philly. (I can't read maps or recognize skylines for shit - but words like "PA National Guard" and "Lincoln Financial Field" had me perking up in my seat with interest until they confirmed it.)
Oh Rick Grimes - being covered in blood in multiple separate scenes during the intervening years like you're making up for lost time. Good to know you haven't changed. (It's your MO - like Jon Bernthal in every role ever.)
I'm both a Lost and Lucifer watcher and I'm excited to see both John Locke and Maze in a new role. It's too early to tell, but they both seem to fit the given roles.
But if you think for one second when Terry O'Quinn opened his mouth and said the word "sacrifice" I didn't immediately think the phrase "that the island demanded", you'd be mistaken.
As I posted earlier - It's been awhile since I've spend time in the universe. I can admit I was rusty when it came to having any clue of Okafor's death after what in retrospect was a very "pre-death" TWD speech. Rick's arm I figured out about when I should of as the viewer. I figured out about Okafor's wife shortly before he said it. But as soon as Rick went down, I was really thinking Michonne would be part of whatever group struck him down. I was even more sure when I saw someone checking bodies, and positive when I saw they had a sword.
Second - the call backs:
The episode 2x8 - Nebraska - where 2 guys from the Philly area hear there's something in Nebraska area. The context that they seem wrong at the time, it's a pipe dream. But really, Omaha did survive, and they were close enough to Philly to hear that, but not close enough or Philly was struggling enough (at least compared to pre-walkers) they came looking for Nebraska anyway. But by the end of TOWL 1x1, Omaha is the pipe dream it seemed in 2x8, because it's destroyed now. (Who thinks Omaha being destroyed is 1000% suspicious with all the power issues? I sure do.)
Rick starting off the show having to cut off his own hand, ala Merle season 1.
Rick working himself up to cut off his own hand like he almost did to Carl per Negan's orders. Except instead of keeping his family alive, it's to get back to them.
The grenade used to escape ala season 1.
Meeting one of the guys who actually bombed Atlanta shown in season 1
The shot of Rick sitting one hand over his leg, dead look in his eyes, covered in blood, is giving me serious 4x16 vibes (leaning on the car, chatting with Daryl after ripping out a man's throat with his teeth).
Reintroducing Michonne at the end of the episode as a disguised and dangerous figure in the woods much like her season 2 finale introduction.

Purging my thoughts on my millionth rewatch for science:
Ep 1.01
It’s truly incredible to see Andrew Lincoln back at it after all these years. This man might be the best actor in Hollywood.… is that doing too much? I really don’t think so.
We see three escape attempts in this episode and in all of them he barely manages to make it out of city limits, if even that. Tbh it’s wild to me that he never gave in to the ideation, but even without hope his subconscious is still fighting for his family 😭
I know feelings are mixed on his choice to cut off his hand (what was the plannnnnn Rick) but if this man has been alive for this many years I need to know he tried everything to get home
God, Michonne looks so so good
The lighting and color grading when he’s in CRM territory vs his dreams. The only time he genuinely smiles is when he’s sleeping, imagining all the ways he could meet and fall in love with his wife
Why does Beale allow Okafor to make these secret plays when he knows he’s up to no good? He can clock Ricks motives immediately but he can’t get a read on a man he’s known for a decade?
For my own sanity I hope we never see Esteban again so I can just tell myself he lives a long happy life with his journalist girlfriend in that air conditioned prison city
All this secrecy but nobody knows how to lock their doors huh
I’m endlessly intrigued by Okafor. This man is so compelling (and fine, sheesh). He keeps Rick captive for the hope of using him to change an irredeemable system. breaks Rick down to nothing and gives him in all the power to completely destabilize the CRM, but I struggle to see this plan as anything but a drawn out suicide mission. Even if they’re successful taking out leadership, no way they won’t die in the aftermath. And what guarantee is there that the next military leaders won’t pick right back up where Beale left off. What is the plan???
“You didn’t save my life” World traveling poker player Pearl, and she don’t understand Rick at allllll. She thinks not shooting him during escape #4 was kindness, but every day that poor man spends isolated from his people is worse than death. What good is it to survive if your soul is destroyed in the process. He doesn’t see the sun, or the sky, or the water, y’all. This shit is breaking my heart.
It’s interesting that when Rick writes his final goodbye letter, he tells Michonne he doesn’t see her in his dreams anymore. But in the very next scene he betrays the point with the “five pizzas and a wedding ring” proposal.. baby boy you aren’t ever getting over this woman, you know that right? He chooses to give up but his subconscious can’t accept it until she’s completely burned out
That reunion! He can’t even believe she’s real, you can literally see his brain buffering trying to understand what’s happening in front of him. This man had spent half a decade surviving off doodles to keep her image alive in his mind, finally gave up all hope of ever seeing her again and here she is, shot him right out of the sky.
I was really curious to see how this pilot would compare to the original series, and it totally blew my expectations. Can’t wait to see how they finish this story.

Name: Ijemma "Jem" Okafor Age/Birthday: 38 (July 31, 1986) Gender & Pronouns: woman, she/her Occupation: Chief Information Officer Affiliation and Position: Obsidian Holdings, Executive Board
"You know good things are happening when the jackboot needs to jump."
BIOGRAPHY.
Born, raised, and educated in the nation's capital, Ijemma Okafor Roosevelt is the result of generations of strong, patriotic citizenship. Her grandfather immigrated from Nigeria to attend Howard University and quickly became one of DC's most successful private investigators. Her father managed one better--worked his way up to Deputy Director for Science and Technology at the CIA. A third generation Howard graduate, Ijemma realized that working for the government meant an awful lot of effort and risk for not nearly enough reward.
After graduating with a Master's degree in IT Management, Jemma spent a year working for the CIA. But her undergraduate minor in business administration piqued her interest in the corporate sector. After a surname change to reclaim her heritage--and break the nepotistic line of prim government service--she found Obsidian Holdings. The irony, of course, was that they loved her connections to DC.
She discovered she had a knack for research early in her career. She was better than most IT people but not as skilled as some. She proved to have a set of skills that made it handy to catch so-called criminals. As a result, most of her career in the CIA revolved around cyber-crimes. Her work with Obsidian requires the same kind of research, but often to totally different ends.
She began her work with Obsidian as a consultant. But once she was hired on permanently and made a board member, she had no trouble uprooting her life and moving to Arizona. Her abrupt departure from the CIA and equally sudden move across the country left her father devastated.
Jemma is a realist. Generally in life, she aligns with good over evil. but she's of the opinion that her work is truly neutral. Information is information, there is no morality attached. If someone gets destroyed because of her work, it wasn't her doing, it was the information.
She knows deep in her bones that she's working for The Man and that her personal morals don't align with that, but she's not ready to admit it to herself yet--she may never be ready.
CONNECTIONS
TBD
PLOT ARC.
As the master of secrets, she tends to know things before most everyone else does. Whether or not she chooses to share everything she knows is entirely up to her, as she's been known to withhold information until it benefits her ambitions…which this town is only a small piece of the bigger picture.

AMEN TO ALL YOUR RECAP FROM EPISODE 3. So so amazing. I cannot wait for the crying, yelling and makeup loving in episode 4. I just saw a theory that had me freaked out a little. Saying the phones don't add up and that Judith is more grown up in the sketches could mean he took helicopters and kept an eye on them over the years?? And that the reference to Carl was actually RJ and that is why he couldn't get it quite right? I doubt that though. He has no idea about RJ. Secrets coming out?? ARGHHH I need to know! What do you think? Also, do you think there will be another season? I need them :'(
thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I think we're all excited for episode lol this show has me wishing away my saturdays smh
well. personally I don't think you need to be freaked out by that theory because (respectfully) I don't think it makes any sense lol. I'm putting this under a read more because It's gonna get kinda long
I don't really see what doesn't add up about the sketches, honestly? because I think the simplest/most logical explanation is likely the accurate one. rick is (painfully) aware of how much time is passing, so every time he asked for a new sketch he'd say how old judith would be at that time and the artist would have adjusted her appearance accordingly. as for carl - I did see one person say they thought the "not getting it right" line implied that rick was starting to forget what carl looked like, because it's been a while now since he died. I think that's plausible, but personally I think part of it is that a parent who loses a child never really stops grieving, and no sketch can ever live up to the memory of that child no matter how objectively accurate it is. maybe it's a little of both? either way, I don't think it's supposed to be RJ.
I think we have to consider that while rick was never ever gonna stop trying to get home to see his family ("I'm getting home or I'm dying. That's it.") okafor played the ultimate and final trump card when he told rick his family would die if he ever escaped the CRM and went back home. as we saw in 1x01, that was it - the lights went out, and rick basically immediately became suicidal because he knew that he would never, ever put them at risk, so his only option was to die (again, "i'm getting home, or I'm dying") and short of actually killing himself he decided to metaphorically die instead.
all of this is to say that everything we've seen from rick on screen since the end of the first episode specifically shows us that he is resigned to never seeing his family again. for a brief moment when okafor died rick thought he maybe had a chance again, especially with michonne there, only for jadis to show up immediately to remind him that she has the SAME trump card as okafor only worse because she set it up so that if she dies his family will be killed anyway. and his only goal at this point is making sure michonne gets out. there's no indication that he has ever set eyes on any of them.
but even just logistically like. do we think the CRM is letting rick 'cut my own hand off trying to escape' grimes fly a helicopter unsupervised? do we think CRM security is so lax that he'd be able to steal one? if it was, wouldn't that be the first thing he did to try to escape, once he enlisted? ALSO the first thing rick did after he and michonne reunited was ask if judith was alive. why would he ask if he already knew? like, he's shown to be pretty decent at lying under pressure but why would he lie to michonne, at that moment? like, I'm sorry this just does not track as a theory to me lol
as for a season 2. well, season 1 is doing extremely well so far, so it wouldn't be a matter of the network not wanting more seasons. I do think an issue would be danai's availability because her schedule is insane. personally, I have my own feelings about whether or not I even want a season 2, but I guess we just have to see what happens!
I hope this answered your questions :)

[ MOUTH ]:          sender notices the receiver’s distress from across a crowded room, and silently mouths “are you okay?” to them. (For eris)
They wanted to move in on an area, that was normal, it's what they did but this time it was different. Eris knew her daughters location, she knew the precise pin point location of that settlement on the map and by the new plan, they'd find it. They'd find her, she'd be trapped into this system, she'd be used to force Eris' hand she'd be a prisoner, a little girl who'd have no idea why it was so bad. She wondered if they'd make her work six years or if they'd usher her to a new Mother, someone doting... and part of her wondered if they'd be better than her. The thought sickened her because nobody would ever love that girl more than she did, the thought of anyone else mothering her baby turned her stomach.
She was stuck and where she could she tried to interject, change the course but Okafor was not having it. This plan already seemed set in stone. She rarely spoke against the plans but every time she could she'd interjected, tried to twist it because they.. couldn't do this.. not her daughter, right? Not her daughter, she hadn't stayed here all this time to see this outcome. Physically she was pale, she looked like she might throw up at the thoughts in her mind and she couldn't do anything, she couldn't scream at them, she couldn't kill them all for daring to think it... all she could do was play good soldier and pretend, but Rick knew her better than that. When she caught his eyes he mouthed to her, asking if she was okay and the fact she hesitated her answer was enough to know she wasn't. Stubborn Eris Amorello, trying to keep it all under wraps.
Tumblr media
Everything was cramming her mind, making her feel sick to her core. There was a moment she was sure the stress of it all might have had her faint but people started to file out of the room and when the door closed and only her and Rick remained she seemed to finally take a breath. Then ten huge breaths, rushed, a little frantic. She leaned, gripping the edge of the table so hard that her knuckles and fingertips turned white with pressure.
"I have a daughter." she told him and she told him because... of all the people here, she'd grown to trust Rick, despite all her judgement telling her to do it all alone she'd been able to turn to him at every corner, every bump, he'd both cheered her on at every attempt and supported her at every failed hurdle. "Her name is Emily..." she breathed, everything so tense, from her clenched jaw and gripping fingers tot he fact she genuinely seemed rigid with what she was saying, that she was telling him her longest kept and biggest secret. "..but I'd always called her il mio amore prezioso.. like my Mother did to me, it means my precious love. She is who I fight to get back to time and time again." Not a man, not a husband or partner, her.
"She's not like me-- she has my hair, I mean, my eyes she's... well she was always my spitting image, looks nothing like her Father. It is more that I mean that she was and is everything good in this world. She was so clever, always so clever, book smart where I was always skill smart. She is the brightest star in the night sky and..." Eris paused, if she squeezed that chair so hard that the wood beam of it's joinery squeaked. "...and Okafor trusts you so I need you to talk him out of this, I need you to tell him to go and move out somewhere else. Change his mission to a different more sensible place."
Emily's Father was a piece of work, he wouldn't hurt a child though.. she wouldn't be a child forever sure but he'd not stoop that low, his rough hands had always been designed for Eris. She'd been a young Mother, sold on this dream he invented for her of true love and passion and truthfully she didn't understand back then that passion and care was not anger and the use of fists. It wasn't intimidation, it was gentle and sweet, it was trust... but she did know now, that everything she knew about what love was meant to be, was because she knew the soft embrace of Rick, stroking her hair to lull her to sleep on the bad nights.
"You know that I would not tell you if I'd run out of options and I would not ask a thing of you, if I could help it." she took a slowly drawn in breath, her head briefly tilting back. "If I'm worth anything, if this alliance we have is anything to you then please, talk to Okafor for me... and you can have anything from me in return when you need it." In all these years, she'd never uttered the word please once.

JOSHUA FLETCHER  |  640 YEARS  |  VAMPIRE  |  RELIGIOUS LEADER, PRIEST FOR ANTI-SUPERNATURAL PARISH  |  SHEMAR MOORE FC
Full Name: Joshua Cain Fletcher
Name meaning: “God is salvation”, “acquired arrow maker”
Nicknames: Fletcher, Josh, J, etc
Age Appearance: 40s
Actual Age: 460 years (born around 1559)
Birthdate: August 26th
MBTI: ENTJ, the commander
Zodiac: Virgo
Element: Earth
Nationality: American by force; hauled to the Americas as a slave during the slave trade
Race: Nigerian
Eyes: brown
Hair: dark black, but has since been shaved and reduced to ‘stubble’ atop his head.
Skin: warm brown
Body type: athletic, muscular.
Height: 6′2″
Weight: 200lbs
Facial details: little to no evidence of aging thanks to his vampirism, does have a habit of shaving a goatee or going clean shaven from time to time. Eyebrows are dark and uniform, often furrowed or relaxed on his features.
Features/marks: A bite mark where he was bitten, back in his home country. Joshua also sports miscellaneous marks on his back from cattails and whips alike, but they have all but healed with blood and time.
Tattoos: None
Health: Sound physically, but displays symptoms of PTSD.
Sexuality: Homosexual but takes on a “persona” during mass to deflect his lifestyle.
Physical limitations: sunlight renders him weak and very well dead if he doesn’t have his ring on him, something he keeps on a necklace for safe keeping.
Physical advantages: Strength, speed, stamina, and healing factor. Adept at stealth.
Clothing/accessories: Most of time wears suits or “dresses down” to a button up and dark jeans. If he’s ever not in either, chances are he’s on a food run.
Mother: Abeni, dead, passed away during childbirth of his youngest sibling of seven.
Father: Jatau, killed during village protests over europeans initiating trade with their country.
Siblings: Otoro, Udo, Okafor, Opeyemi, Nneya, and Monifa. Three boys, three girls, all died from complications upon the first slave ship to America, with Otoro and Udo tossed overboard in the Atlantic.
Birth order: Joshua was the first son and child between Abeni and Jatau. Followed by Otoro, Nneya, Udo, Okafor, Opeyemi, and Monifa. Age gap ranged from one to three years between children.
Pets: None
Significant other: None
Generally liked or disliked?: Generally liked by his parish and average church goers, Joshua has to uphold some kind of reputation. Outside of the church and humans, he has no care whether he’s liked or not. He has a job to do and intends to fulfill it.
Education Level: elementary, until later on when he got a GED to attended college (Bachelor’s in for dirt cheap) during the middle-to-late 1900s using what wages he accrued in the hundreds of years before it.
Hobbies: Reading and reciting scripture, walking around town when the night blankets the skies, organizing protests and other public events for his church, as well as sinning from time to time.
Temperament: composed for the most part, often taking a gentle demeanor. But the persona is quick to shed when he’s around blood bars or other places reeking of supernatural, where he’ll be a little more gruff and agitated, as though thoroughly disgusted with himself and the community.
Positive traits: gentle, caring when he wants to and if the person has value in his life, thoughtful, and loyal to a cause or someone he deems worthy.
Negative traits: pessimist of the supernatural, aggressive, prone to outbursts.
Weaknesses: deadman’s blood, sunlight, decapitation, finding his ‘sire’ or those he has turned, his relationship with God.
Strengths: Capable of taking hits and giving them back, able to coerce and rile his parish to follow his cause, adept at reading his audience, getting what he wants.
Proud of: His mission and growing parish to oust the supernatural community for good.
Embarrassed by: Being a vampire, especially with his love for the power attached to it.
Fears/phobias: Not being worthy for God nor his mission, failing his goal, and ultimately being outed to his parish and community as a vampire. There’s a body trail to prove this, one that lasts centuries.
Secrets: He loves the thrill of being a vampire and loves engaging with his homosexual desires, things he keeps behind closed doors when at the church or in the public eye. Years of closeting himself have made any relationships hard to come by, not to mention his personality, too.
Regrets: Being turned, watching his father die from the protests and ultimately failing to fight the people that brought him to America in the first place.
Angered by: The corruption spurred by supernaturals and their immoral hold on the city.
Calmed by: Alone time, or moments spent with sire or his own ‘turned’ children, as they can be called.
Most at ease when: drinking blood, beating up the punching bag at the gym, or walking the streets.
Soft spot: His sire and the people he’s turned. A human or two fit this category, as well.
In a crisis: Lashes out or shuts down to concoct a quick and thorough enough plan in the time allotted. There’s no arguing with him when he’s trying to get his shit together.
Under pressure: Keeps calm, going over plans or reading people’s body language to better understand what to do. He can focus on the task at hand, so long as no one interrupts him.
Can he keep a secret?: Yes. Even being the very thing he preaches against, he does take secrecy seriously.
People are inherently…: lost, sinful, and misguided.
Spiritual beliefs: Strongly Christian due to living in the south for so long and seeking refuge in the European religion. He’s since established himself as a priest with a growing parish of humans.
Day or night?: Night
Pessimist or optimist?: Primarily pessimist
Big picture or small details?: Big picture
Important events in life: Turning into a vampire, the long journey to America that had most of his ‘shipmates’ either dead from diseases or tossed overboard.

1x01 “Years”
These are my last first thoughts on the premier. There were many things where you’re like, wait is this a good thing or a bad thing? Can we trust this person or not? Is Rick in it or is he not? And I love it. You have to go back several times to see the way things stitch together. We’ll see what happens. As for what has happened, Scott Gimple pulled out the “end in the beginning” move from his back of tricks. In my notes I named each ‘scene’ this:
1. “There’s still one good man in the world”: Rick vs Thorne’s Glass
2. The stuff and things we hide. Rick plays the game.
3. “Monsters that kill the monsters—that’ll be over soon.” Okafor turns the walking dead theme on its head.
4. “She’s not gone. They’re not gone. But we are.” Turning a theme on its head again. Letting us know it’s all about…
5. Nationbuilding 101: Secrets. Secrets. Secrets. Rick plays the game to its end.
6. Rick vs Thorne’s Glass 2: Electric Boogaloo
7. (“He’s a good man and we’re from a good place.”) Rick chooses to die metaphorically.
8. A reunion. Writers’ lesson in teasing but avoiding the Romeo and Juliet scenario.

The Miys, Ch. 28
At this point, I am dying to hear any theories about who is behind the sabotage, the spiked food, everything.  Some people have already come to me with theories, and I’ve outright denied a few but cannot confirm or deny any others... after all, that would give away the game, right?
Six hours later, I was reviewing the lunch menu Arantxa put together for the next day, but my mind was completely somewhere else.  I had gotten permission from Xiomara to give the almost full, mostly unadulterated truth to the entire ship; while she acknowledged it would have an impact on the investigation, the greater concern was the possibility for wild speculation once word inevitably leaked from those on Level One when speaking to their loved ones.  As the adage went “Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead,” and we had right at one hundred people on Level One.  In the end, the identities of the suspects already in custody was the only thing we kept back.
I was startled as a hand waved between my face and my data screen. “Sophia? Are you okay?  You’ve been staring at the same thing for five minutes.  I admit to being a fan of spanakopita, but it isn’t that interesting,” Arantxa asked, concerned.
Shaking my head to clear it, I noticed my sister had left without my even noticing. “Where’d Tyche go?” I asked instead of responding.
“She went to check on our boys and get some food.  You didn’t answer her when she asked what you wanted, so she said she would just bring something back for you.  What’s wrong?” she insisted.
“Everything’s just kind of getting to me,” I admitted. “I’m disturbed by the idea that someone would sabotage us, let alone the fact that they kept up after the initial attempt failed.  We’re basically all that’s left of the human race; Simon and Miys as much as told me that when I first woke up here.  Those still on Earth won’t survive more than a couple more generations.”
“We got lucky,” she urged softly, patting my arm. “No one could have anticipated that we would have so many pilots on board, much less one certified to for interstellar flight.”
“Thankfully,” I admitted. “The only people who really had access to that were myself, you, Tyche, and Grey, apparently.  And I know I certainly never checked it. Why would I? Miys had the flight under control, and at light speed everything is basically on autopilot.”  I flicked my wrist, giving up on the menu and dismissing my data screen before tapping the tabletop.  “The pilots are another thing. Forty reported out of fifty-three.  Xiomara let me know that one has an unshakeable alibi, but that still leaves twelve who are suspects.  The motive couldn’t be to put our pilots in the spotlight, because none of them showed up to when asked to report.”
“Maybe they were sabotaged, too?” she suggested. “By one or more of the pilots who did report?”
I shook my head. “I’m not a cop by any means, but that doesn’t even make sense to me. If they were trying to highlight Terran pilots as superior, why drug everyone?  The only pilot who wasn’t affected was Maverick, but it was because he has severe, documented food aversions, even back on Earth.  On top of that, he is the first to admit he can’t fly this alone, even as the most qualified.”
“I know you trust him, but something still doesn’t feel right,” she replied. “If you trust him, I’ll trust you.  But it is too coincidental for me, I’m sorry.”
I really could not blame her for being suspicious. Then again, as far as I was aware, everyone was a suspect. Xiomara was being close-lipped about the entire thing, to the point of near-hostility if you did not know she was on edge. Part of me could sympathize: migraines don’t just vanish because you figure out the source, and seven hours was nowhere near enough time to let the medicine fade from our systems.  We were both still limping along on analgesics and coffee, while avoiding each other as much as possible so our tentative friendship would not suffer from our shortened tempers.
“Cheer me up,” I sighed. “Tell me you have updates from outside?  I haven’t been able to bring myself to contact anyone with this,” I gestured vaguely at my head.  “Plus, my glasses are in my quarters, so there’s only so much screen time I can handle.”
She broke into a grin. “I talked to Conor last night! We rescheduled our date, and he told me that Huynh made him point on the diving and research platforms. It turns out that all that time he spends in the aeroponics lab has engendered good will with the technicians and researchers. They requested him, specifically.”
“Good for him!” I cried, immediately shooting a hand up to my head in regret. “Dammit,” I muttered. “This profoundly sucks. I can’t even be excited for my friends.  Still, I’m happy for him and glad you two were able to reschedule your date.  He does know it’s a date, right?”
“Yes, finally,” she groaned. “I was very specific to ask if we could reschedule our date due to the circumstances.  He was flustered, but he did say that he would gladly go on a date with me anytime once all this is over.”
“Whoo!” I whispered, trying not to set off room-spins again. “That’s so amazing. I’m so happy for you two!”
After some good-natured ribbing, we both got back to work finalizing the menu for the next day so that would be out of the way.  Arantxa quickly picked up the concept of choosing themes that revolved around non-cultural ideas when looking for crowd-pleasers, along with when to break the rules – dietary restrictions, foods that didn’t match the theme but everyone liked and wouldn’t care, etc.  Lunch ended up being multicultural flatbreads and fillings, somewhat matching breakfast. Small finger foods and sweets for a ‘brunch’ snack and for afternoon ‘tea’, rounded out by a dinner of pasta dishes, soups, and salads.
As we were arguing the finer points of a Niçoise – she preferred it with salmon, I insisted it needed anchovies – Grey sat down and looked between us curiously. “Is it so important which fish is on this salad?” they asked curiously, blinking in an effort to focus.
The two of us who had just been arguing looked at each other and started giggling. “No not really,” I explained. “Traditionally, it should have anchovies. However, it’s really common for people to not like anchovies, so other fish does get substituted often.  Really, we could just put the fish on the side and let people choose, so let’s do that,” I suggested, to which Arantxa nodded, still giggling. Turning back to Grey, I asked “What’s up, Grey?”
“I merely wanted to check on how everyone is handling the recent revelation,” they stated in their usual, overly-formal way.
“It’s good to know you care,” I smiled widely. “I think we’ll be okay, medically. Most of it is just worry regarding who is doing all this.  Did you ever get the information on who accessed the consoles to cover up getting into the storage room?”
“I have, but that is all I can tell you,” they confirmed. “The data is under review, and any details will come directly to myself, Pranav, and Xiomara.”
“Even Zach and Derek?” Arantxa asked, brows furrowed. “They’ve been relaying it through me so far, since you three have been so busy, and Derek’s not familiar with any of you.”
“Fortunately for Mr. Khan and Mr. Okafor, they are not needed on this,” Grey advised. “Right now, the people handling the data are reviewing huge access logs and looking for patterns, not something the other two are particularly suited for. But even if they were, we would make accommodations for Mr. Okafor, likely he would simply send the information from his data screen to mine, no personal interaction needed.”
“So, you’re just going to cut them out of all this?” I asked, surprised.  “They found the lead in the first place. That’s not really fair.”
“While the concept of ‘fair’ has little to do with the situation, fortunately it is a non-issue. Mr. Okafor, through Mr. Khan, advised he has no desire to, quote, ‘dig for needles in haystacks’, and Mr. Khan voiced a similar preference.  Right now, Mr. Okafor would prefer to recuperate from so much time around people, so Councillor Huynh has sectioned off a small corner of one of the sleeping areas for him to have privacy.”
Arantxa still looked indignant, but I could understand completely.  After three days of people, I was running on fumes and caffeine myself. “I’ll send him a message to avoid feeding Mac any cheese. The little fluff-nugget cries like he’s dying if he isn’t given any, but it really constipates him something fierce, and Derek always gives in,” I explained. “Maybe I’ll just tell Zach not to give either of them cheese.  Derek couldn’t care either way about it.  How about the mining mission? Any updates there?”
Grey shook their head. “Not anything substantial. We are in orbit around Meenie, and the first cores have come back.  There is a slightly higher ferrous concentration in the rock here, so that indicates positive results, but that is all we have right now.”
“It’s still something,” I reassured them. “Although I do have a question, and you don’t have to answer if it is stupid, but I’m really curious.  These core samples – how are we expected to get anything substantial from them? I always thought core samples were really small.”
“The size depends on what you are taking a sample from,” they explained, not unkindly. “For fossils and trees, yes, the core samples are too small to be of much use.  However, the samples we are taking are on a scale with old ice cores taken from polar sheets: they are nearly a meter wide and four hundred meters in length.”
I did a rough conversion in my head. “These things are three feet wide and a thousand feet long?” I let out a low whistle. “Okay, question withdrawn, those are huge.”
“Closer to thirteen hundred feet in length, but yes, they are rather substantial,” Grey confirmed. “Very trace amounts of any exotic elements, but substantial amounts of carbon and silica.  As I said, Meenie has more iron, and also has more aluminum, but still not in the quantities we would like to see.”
“At least we are finding more iron,” I reassured them.  “You were bothered by that on Eenie, so as small of a victory as it is, it still counts.”
“I agree,” they nodded. “We seem to need all the victories we can obtain at the current moment.” Standing, they smoothed their tunic. “I apologize for interrupting your work, and I will let you return to it.  Have a good day, ladies.”
After waving goodbye to Grey, I turned back to Arantxa to find her eyebrows were still tight. “Hey, what’s the matter?  We got some good news.  Granted, it’s a little, but it’s something.”
She turned to me, her face relaxing. “I’m sorry.  There is a lot of intrigue going on, and I do not like it,” she sniffed disdainfully before frowning again.
I had to suppress a laugh – Arantxa was one of the most straightforward people I had ever met, so all the secrets would understandably be driving her crazy. Instead, I tried to put her more at ease. “Try to bear in mind: a very important piece of evidence just had to be broadcast to the entire ship, potentially causing a panic.  Unfortunately, it was either it come from the Council and assure everyone their loved ones up here are safe and measures are being taken, or let it leak and lead to wildfire speculation.  Chances are, they are just trying to be careful with any other information regarding the ongoing search for a saboteur or saboteurs so we don’t teach them to cover their tracks better.”
She groaned and leaned back in her chair, rubbing her face with both hands. “I can understand that, but you are a part of the Council just as much as they are. I do not like that they are keeping information from other Councillors; that is how factions and political parties start.” She moved her hands to give me a pointed look.
“Yeah, I know,” I conceded. “But at the end of the day, there is no professional reason for me to know what is going on.  The only reason anyone on the Council is involved is because of a severe oversight in establishing any sort of police force.  We, all ten thousand of us, were pretty reckless in believing we would not need one. ‘Best of humanity’ and all that, we never expected to need to enforce peace.  Especially not when we were just pulled off a planet that bombed itself back to three hundred years.” I shook my head ruefully at the thought.
“We didn’t bomb ourselves back,” Arantxa pointed out. “A bunch of insane extremists bent on striking against the rich capitalists went too far and took the rest of us along as collateral damage.”
“They were still humans,” I counter-argued. “If we plan on making the most of the chance we are being given to start again, it can’t start with ‘us’ and ‘them’ rhetoric.  When I was a little girl, I grew up learning about ‘them’: Nazi Germany, the Spanish Inquisition, Al Qaeda, the Taliban, ISIS.  And at the
exact same time
, I had to watch ‘us’ do the
exact same things
to immigrants, to peaceful Muslims, to transgender people. The fact is, the only ‘us’ is humanity, and if
we
don’t learn from
our
mistakes, we are going to keep making them. We didn’t learn in time to prevent the End of the World, but maybe we can learn that in time to keep from ending ourselves for good.”

♥️Reveling in Richonne - TOWL
#8: The Last Letter (1.01)
Tumblr media
gif cred: @vidco
Rick's 'last' letter to Michonne made my heart break into a million pieces. It was beautiful and devastating and also a major testament to the way Richonne’s love was the pulse of Rick’s life and without Michonne, that pulse essentially came to a stop 😢...
But backtracking a bit, after that powerfully acted scene between Rick and Okafor, Rick sits alone in his apartment with a drink as he stares out the window and again looks like he loathes the window's constant reminder that he’s stuck far from home.
I just know whenever Rick comes back to that cold bare apartment he would so rather come home to a home with toys on the ground, paintings on the fridge, his wife’s cat statue on the mantle - any signs that his home is the home of his family. The apartment reflects his emptiness and it’s clear he resents being here stripped of being a husband and father which is what he loved being more than anything.
This scene also always makes me think perhaps on this very night, an adorable little boy with Rick’s good kind heart is sitting at a dinner table asking the love of Rick’s life for more tomatoes, while Rick is forced to sit in this apartment alone, looking fine and depressed with just a drink to nurse his woes. He should be at those family dinners right now with Michonne, RJ, and Judith. The CRM has to burn for taking this from him. 😞
Tumblr media
Rick, clearly a little buzzed from his drink is about to get up when Pearl urgently enters. And she enters without knocking to which I was like Thorne, ma'am…
Tumblr media
She tells Rick to turn on the TV and they see that Omaha has been destroyed. Pearl is understandably overcome by this news.
She then expresses a lot of belief in the CRM and their secrets and how the CRM is the answer to creating a future and Rick looks up at her sorta just checked out. You can tell it's difficult for him to be present at this moment after his whole hope of going home has been completely crushed by the previous Okafor exchange.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @clonecaptains
Pearl gives him more info about the little girl that he saved and then she says, “You and me and that girl…we all want to be somewhere else with someone else” and Rick again has a quiet emotional reaction as he turns away from her with tears in his eyes. Bringing up Michonne & Judith with these CRM people is always a sensitive thing for him.
Pearl adds, “But we got stuck in the right place” and Rick doesn’t look at her but tilts his head and reacts like he clearly disagrees with that assessment. If this place doesn’t have Michonne and Judith it can never be the right place.
She then says Rick is gonna see that this was for the best someday and she says she’s not sorry she stopped him, stating, “I’m not sorry I saved your life, even when you didn’t want it to be saved.”

And the way Rick looks at her. He has this weary smile as he lets her know point blank, “You didn’t save my life.” First, he’s like don’t be taking credit for Michonne’s work lol. Michonne truly saved his life and every one of his kids' lives. She's the one who brought Rick back time and time again.
Also I think Rick feels like if I can’t go home then I don’t have a life to live really, let alone a life to save.
Tumblr media

It seems the way Rick sees it, Pearl just helped play a part in keeping him stuck here permanently.
And it’s super interesting how he delivers all this with a drained smile because I think he knows what he’s contemplating right now and is pretty resolved to go through with it. Almost like he’s coming to terms with the fact that he doesn’t plan on living much longer so Pearl didn’t save his life because he’s seriously considering taking it after enduring such painful hopeless circumstances.
But Pearl begs to differ saying, “Yes I did.” She takes a sip of Rick’s drink without asking and then breaks the glass on his floor which again…imma need her to chill throwing glasses around Rick. Idc if it’s your schtick, Pearl, it’s a hazard.
Tumblr media

Before leaving Pearl says, “At least there’s one more good man in the world, hmm? One more good man to try and save the world…whether he wants to or not.” This was Rick getting yet another reminder that even though he doesn't want power, power wants him.
Tumblr media

Pearl leaves and we’re brought back to the teaser moment as Rick sits alone and nears ending it all by his own hand. Which I’ve discussed this scene in the first TOWL post, but just to add - now knowing the exact circumstances that led him to this point, when he looks out the window and at the drawing of Michonne it just feels like he’s thinking 'I really won’t ever see her again outside of these sketches.' 🥺
Like he had probably fought so hard to never even entertain the idea of not seeing Michonne again because, like his wife, he too tries to not fantasize about failing. But now, that very possible reality of never seeing her again has sunk in and it's killing him.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @vidco
And as he stares out the window at the view of the city that he hates, he seems to be accepting that this might be the last view he has.
This city that’s supposed to promise its residents a new life is the very reason Rick wants to take his. 😞
With the glass shard from the cup Pearl threw placed to his neck, Rick then has flashes of memories from his childhood home burning and, while we don’t know it at this time, it becomes clear these memories popped into his head at this moment because it’s a reminder of the sacrifice his dad made for their family.
And now Rick is going to make the ultimate sacrifice for his family. Deciding to stay alive to save the world for his girls all while feeling dead inside without them.
Tumblr media

So then begins Rick’s last soul-crushing letter to Michonne. 💔
The scene cuts to Rick waking up alone in bed for his first official day as the walking dead. It says a lot about Rick’s resilience that it took five years before he ever became this broken.
But he’s only human and can only take so much (especially without the family that fuels him) and so now he’s arrived at what he believes is the point of no return, no returning home that is. And as he wakes in this bed, you just know he’d give anything to return to the mornings when he’d wake up to his arms wrapped around Michonne.
Tumblr media
Rick says, “I thought about ending it. Just stopping it all.” And I think it’s moving how he even wanted Michonne to know the darkest places he went to. Like she gets access to even his suicidal thoughts. He says, “But then…then it would all just be for nothing, wouldn’t it?” I like that he poses it as a question, even if rhetorical. He knows Michonne would say the answer is yes and would be so glad he didn’t go through with it.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @nobleriver
Also, the survivor and protector in him wouldn’t let him go through with it because if he can in someway still save his girls from afar he’s going to try.
He says, “All of it for nothing. I couldn’t do it” and Rick’s face and the vulnerable delivery and breathing within this letter is so well executed and just makes my heart ache.
We see him writing the letter and I really like the detail of him having a ton of pages ripped out of the notebook. It goes to show he’s been writing a whole bunch to Michonne over the years.
Then we enter the depths of despair with Rick as he says, “But I still decided to die. I’ve been writing you letters the whole time. Reaching out to feel something. Writing just to imagine you could read them.” Ok I’m crying. 😭 Like that’s so beautiful and painful and I appreciate that Rick is so aware that connecting with Michonne in any way possible is the only way he can feel alive here.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @taiturner
Seeing him write in that chair with his hand missing, just knowing he’s been through so much hardship and pain alone...y’all it’s too much. 😭
When Rick says, “This is my last one, the last letter I write to you that you’ll never see” the first time I heard it and every time after my heart just drops. I was shattered because this was him feeling forced to close the door on her and him in a way I’d never want to see. 🥺 Had me fully like...
Tumblr media
After that Okafor exchange, Rick has finally accepted that all his hope of telling Michonne all this in person one day might be futile.
It’s also very poignant to have this letter occur over a montage of Rick restoring an office and moving up the ranks. As he declutters the conference room and becomes more involved in the CRM machine, he’s building things for them and bringing their vision to life while he himself dies inside. It’s a tragic and impactful contrast.
Then Rick says what he’ll say a total of three times throughout this one letter - “I love you.” 🥺
I adore hearing him tell her 'I love you,' especially while under these sorrowful circumstances. He says it so certain, like it’s something he knows will never change nor fade even if he has to be dead now and give up on seeing her.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @candiedblue
Something I’ve said in many of my posts is all versions of Rick love Michonne. It’s just the truth. And even Dead Rick - the Rick who has had to shut himself off and feel nothing to survive as the walking dead - even he still loves Michonne. In fact, it’s like now all he is is love for her and their daughter and there’s no other part of his humanity he entertains or recognizes anymore.
By saying 'I love you' at this moment it’s him saying even tho this is the last letter, it’s not at all because he doesn’t love her. In actuality, it’s the last letter because he loves her so passionately that if he doesn’t kill the parts of himself that long to escape and be with her then he knows he’ll always try to get to her and he believes that will only put her in danger. So in a way, like Okafor, he too had to kill the idea of being with his wife. But even so, he still wants Michonne to know over and over that he still loves her.
Rick says, “I don’t see the dead anymore or the ones I lost.” This will come into play big time in the immaculate fourth episode. And it’s such a traumatizing thing to realize you don’t see anyone you love anymore. That would make you lose yourself entirely. 😞 So Rick's super forlorn, I'm super verklempt, it's a lot. And the letter only grows more devastating as it goes on.
Tumblr media
The most painful part of this letter for me is when Rick devastatingly says he also doesn’t see the sun, the sky, or the water and “I don’t see you anymore.” 😭😭😭😭
The way he says that. 😥 The way his voice breaks just a bit saying 'anymore,' knowing that it was seeing Michonne that was keeping him going before this. 🥺
So many of us have always said that when Rick looks at Michonne he sees the sun, the moon, and the stars, and his whole universe. And sure enough, Rick confirms that here by saying if he can’t see her anymore he literally can’t see anything anymore - no sunlight to lead the way, no sky to reach new horizons, no water to cleanse the pain.
He can’t see any of those things in nature because it was Michonne who lit his path like the sun, who made him rise up higher than the sky, who washed away his fears and pain and replaced it with hope and joy. Their love was an electrifying life source and without her, he can't live and the whole world goes dark.
And I firmly believe that this is such an accurate in-character response from Rick. Like this isn’t something he’s saying because TOWL is an epic love story so they have to dramatically play up their romance and yearning - no this is truly how deep Richonne’s love goes and has always gone, to the point that Rick could see his entire world fade to black without the hope of having her in it.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @perryabbott
Rick says, “I just see what’s ahead” and when his voice breaks as he says this it feels like his heart is breaking finally accepting that being with her is no longer what’s ahead. Now what’s ahead is far more cold and bleak as he says, “metal rotors, and gun oil and blood.” The beauty of nature replaced with the dark lifeless things of this apocalypse.
It’s interesting because you’d think when the world ended and turned into an apocalypse all those years ago, that’s when all you’d see ahead is blood and guns. But Richonne and their family managed to carve out such a beautiful life that it wasn’t until Rick lost them that he stopped seeing the good and beauty in the apocalyptic world.
And my heart melts over how this implies that part of why Rick could still see the sun, sky, water, and beauty in the world all those years ago was because he was with Michonne.
Tumblr media
Rick goes on saying that all he sees is “What I have to do, what I can do to help save the world even if you never know I did that.” An ultimate act of sacrifice.
And then the greatest loverboy to ever walk the earth says, “I love you so much. I love you so so much.” And what I love so so much is the way he has to tell her this and emphasize it. 😭 Like you can just feel that as Rick writes this last letter he’s still so overcome with love for her and all he wants is to let Michonne know she still has his entire heart. Even the dead version of his heart is hers.
I'll forever adore hearing this. It made me think about how we went from being so eager to hear Rick say I love you just once in TWD to now hearing him say it three times in one letter in the first ep of this miniseries. TOWL is a blessing in every way. And the way he repeats it in this letter it really feels like he could say 'i love you' 100 times and he wouldn’t feel like it was enough to convey all the love he has for her.
Rick burns the phones and letters as he tells Michonne he loves her so much. And seeing him burn those, I was like...
Tumblr media
One; I wanted Rick to still be able to keep those phones just to have some bit of his girls with him. And two; I was like Rick, your wife is on her way to save you and I want her to have the chance to read all your letters like you hoped she would. Like I really wanted Michonne to be able to read those letters one day - especially because, while she'll later say it in a moment of tension, Rick really is a great writer. 😊
This last letter right here would have Shakespeare applauding Rick. Even tho maybe it's good Michonne never got this letter because it would be absolutely heartbreaking for her to read. But I just love that Rick earnestly and honestly pours his heart out to Michonne so romantically in words. This was yearning at its strongest.
But Rick burns these items because he believes he has to burn this hope of being with them for their sake. Plus, these phones and letters are essentially what got him “caught” by Okafor in a way so he’s getting rid of the rest to not risk any more exposure again. But also, these phones are what got Michonne to realize Rick is alive so they did more good than damage.
Tumblr media
gif cred: @nerd4music
As he burns the phones and letters it’s Rick following his dad and grandpa's footsteps and adopting the mindset that sometimes it's for the best to die and live and it’s an act of protection to let things burn, no matter how painful the sacrifice. And honestly, this is a huge act of love from Rick because he’s literally dying for his wife and daughter. Ending his life to save theirs - something he's always been willing to do as evidenced by the bridge sacrifice.
And as fire is one of the most prominent motifs in TOWL, I really like the theme of it for its duality. Fire both cleanses and destroys and Rick will wrestle with figuring out which one he does on this TOWL journey.
The most heartbreaking letter in history then concludes with Rick saying, “I tried. Please just know I tried.” as he stares into the fire, watching the flames burn away the last few parts of the Rick he once knew.
He so longs for Michonne to know just two things: 1) he loves her with everything in him and 2) he tried as hard as he could for her.
But as hard as he tried, things just haven’t worked out so he ends the letter saying one more time in a broken whisper “I tried…but I failed.” And well if TOWL wanted to shatter my heart then mission accomplished because this letter never fails to break me. By the end of this letter Rick and I were in the same boat because I was watching like...
Tumblr media
It’s hard enough to know Rick decided to die while still alive. Like that’s such a painful choice. Especially because choosing to die is different than choosing to become numb imo. You can still technically 'feel' numbness, but when you decide to live but die, you stop feeling anything, not even numbness. You shut off your humanness just to get through the pain.
And since our humanness switch is never meant to be turned off it’s no easy feat to turn it back on. Speaking from experience, once you shut off that switch, sure you stop feeling the pain but you stop feeling everything else too and it takes time and a lot of love to turn it back on. Like even love almost becomes a 'concept' more than a feeling because you're so alienated from having love in your life.
Fortunately, the woman who loves Rick more than he’s ever been loved is on her way to love him back to life. And thank goodness, because Rick needs Michonne desperately.
Tumblr media
But then on top of all this, the aspect that makes this last line of the letter so heartrending is Rick didn’t just die but feels he died a failure.
Every day that Rick struggled to break free and had to live knowing his wife and daughter were out there and he couldn’t hold them, protect them, or love them added such a painful layer to his sense of failure. And it’s heartbreaking to hear his final letter conclude not by saying he tried but just couldn’t escape the oppressive CRM, but rather “I tried, but I failed.” It gives us insight into how much Rick’s mindset is that he is the cause of the failure.
He thinks this is on him and feels he’s let them down. He didn’t just ‘die’ disappointed, he thinks he ‘died’ a failure even despite really being a victim of his circumstances. And when I tell you that breaks my heart. It really really does. 💔
Tumblr media
And now Rick just has to live dead and thinking he fell short of the one thing he thought he’d never fall short of which is finding his way back to his family.
That has to change him on a foundational level -thinking he’s failed and let his family down by not being able to overcome the CRM and get to them. I hate that he had to carry that false thought that he’s a failure for so long.
This letter also shows that Rick is the literal embodiment of loving his wife more than life itself. He feels there is no version of him that can be alive without her so he has to die. And even dead, he knows he'll still always love Michonne which makes this outcome a punishment worse than death because at least in death you don't have to be aware of your loss. 😞
But let me stop here because...
Tumblr media
I'll conclude by saying - Rick's last letter was painfully beautiful and tragically romantic. I love that his love for Michonne makes him want to write poetry and prose about how he feels about her and how much she means. I get it because Richonne’s love has me writing for days too. 😇
After this letter, I so needed a reminder of the light at the end of this super dark tunnel and once again, Rick’s dreams came to the rescue to deliver in all ways. 🙌🏽
I mean this next scene delivered Richonne, it delivered gorgeous chemistry, and also it delivered pizza and a ‘proposal’ so naturally it’s my favorite scene of the episode. 😊👌🏽

Who would you pair up with the characters of Chicago Med from other medical shows that you watch. So like Greys, The Good Doctor and 911 characters, and the Med characters
Oooooh what a fun question!! This is going to get LONG! (I added in characters from The Resident)
So I could see Connor with either Cristina or Meredith. He likes them feisty and these two are absolutely that and more. Cristina would leave him for brighter horizons and he and Meredith would bond over their tragic family stories. Both have more money than they know what to do with and family names recognizable both in and out of the hospital. Meredith would probably steam roll him though. And Cristina would call him out on all his bullshit and be smarter than him at cardio so it would be endless fights...basically the dynamic they wish they’d written for Ava and Connor.
Arizona and Ava. This is the true opposites attract ship. Arizona is sweet and fun and beautiful and Ava doesn’t even realize she’s gay until Arizona hits on her and then glides away on her heelies. They bond over that obvious secret Ava has about growing up sick and knowing a child whose sick or a family member. She teaches Ava how to be assertive and not aggressive about everything.
Claire Brown and Will Halstead or Jackson Avery. First could you imagine the gorgeousness of Claire and Jackson together? Claire would be in a supportive relationship she actually wants to be in and they would bond over their neglectful parents. She’d be in awe over how amazing his mother was and he’d feel like shit cause at least he knows who his father is. Claire and Will would work because Will likes kind women who second guess themselves and ones he thinks he can save. He wouldn’t be able to resist her beautiful eyes and soft spoken candor and she’d admire that he pulled himself up from his bootstraps like she did.
Dr. Mina Okafor (The Resident) and Dr. Latham. Boy....could you imagine a scene with these two? Both candid and succinct (obviously for different reasons) they say exactly what they mean so if they like each other you’ll know by the  first contact. They bond over a love of heart surgery and bicker over his need for control and her need to prove she’s right.  Guarded and reserved the relationship would probably fail because someone has to be soft and it ain’t Mina.
Sharon Goodwin and Richard Webber...because grown-ups who run hospitals need each other. The jokes and music they would listen to and the discussions about dealing with board rooms and medicine would keep them up all night laughing and lamenting about the past. They’d be a great match because they are dedicated to their professions, her kids are grown, but they both know how to let their hair down when needed.
Owen Hunt and Natalie Manning. Can you imagine the way he’d look at her with all that respect and creepy neediness for a baby? I mean she’s the total package for him! A doctor, an ex-military wife who obviously wants children. He seems like he’s done serving so she wouldn’t have to worry and they could work briefly together in the ER/ED before he goes to surgery so they are bickering constantly like the other redhead in her life. Also you think the two Jeff’s were funny that nickname was always lame Try the two Owens!
Neli Melendez and April Sexton. Poor Neil, he has worked his ass off to be where he is and all he wanted was to marry the woman he loves and start a family....too bad she didn’t want one. Poor April, all she wanted was to marry her fiance and have their baby but the baby died and he didn’t want her to carry on her career. I wonder who would respect her decision to work and still want a family...*insert-shit-eating-grin*,these two would be cute. He could sweep her off her feet with his surgeon money and they could bond over different yet overlapping characteristics of Latina/Hispanic culture.  They’d be hot together.
Shaun Murphy and Lexie Grey. He’d be forthcoming when he realized he liked her but she wouldn’t know how to react. They’d be friends for a while, with each of their quirks and special abilities causing trouble and beautiful serendipity with each other. He has a completely unguarded mouth and she could call him on anything he said or did because of her memory. The neurosis in the relationship could be taxing...yet interesting.
Maggie Pierce and AJ Austin(The Resident) and Marcus Andrews. Listen these are cardio gods. Maggie may not be as fast as AJ but she’s probably smarter and more creative, he likes tough, which she can be but more than anything he’ll like how accomplished and driven she is. Marcus is the type to talk down to her because of her age not realizing she has shared the same title he has not once but twice. She comes from groundbreakers in her profession and it’s impressive to him to witness the woman who would probably correct him in a lecture. Ultimately I see her with Marcus, he seeks stability in a way AJ doesn’t.
Alex Karev and Nicolette “Nic” Nevins. For the same bad boy rebellious reason she’s with Conrad. The biggest difference being that Alex is not from money. She’s just as tough as he is so she could give as much as she takes. She softens him when need be and they bond over having rough patches in their family history. Plus they’re fire in the sack.
Sarah Reese and Derek Shepherd. I always thought if Sarah didn’t feel like she could hack it in ED then she’d go into neuro which is where she would meet Derek. Heart eyes all around. Derek loved having his ego stroked and Sarah would have been in awe over the “neuro-god”. It would be a very early Meredith/Derek feels with some awkwardness on Sarah’s part.
There are so many more but these are the ones that come to mind.

New Post has been published on http://www.conservativefreepress.com/politics/leftists-bash-katy-perry-for-being-nice-to-her-trump-supporting-family/
Leftists Bash Katy Perry for Being Nice to Her Trump-Supporting Family
This has been a week for despair and disappointment, that’s for sure. But when we read the things that leftists say on Twitter, on television, and in the pages of the liberal rags passing for newspapers, we reckon we might have gotten off lucky. Because if these people had their way, Trump wouldn’t have just been defeated in this election, he and his supporters would be rounded up and fed to the sharks. These people are seething with rage and hate, and they have revenge on their minds.
Take their reaction to an innocuous, sane tweet from singer Katy Perry. Perry has made no secret of her support for Democrats – she sang for several Hillary Clinton events in 2016, and she even let her use the song “Roar” as her main campaign theme. But while Perry was excited by the election results as they rolled in this week, she wanted to remind her followers that it’s not illegal to be nice to those who were disappointed by the outcome.
“The first thing I did when the presidency was called is text and call my family members who do not agree and tell them I love them and am here for them,” she tweeted. “#FamilyFirst. Call your family today. Happy Sunday.”
We doubt we could find much to agree with, politically, in a conversation with Katy Perry, but you have to respect her for that sentiment. It’s one that’s been missing for too long in our politics, and it was a welcome message coming from a popular and influential celebrity.
Naturally, she’s now under fire for the tweet.
“Super good to know white supremacy isn’t a dealbreaker for you,” whined African-American author L.L. McKinney.
“Those people voted for a man who incited violence and didn’t care whether marginalised groups lived or died,” bawled British actor Rahul Kohli. He said that Perry’s family and other Trump voters must apologize for supporting the president. “That’s the bare minimum before there can be any talk about love and moving forward.”
“You’re behaving like this was a mere ‘difference in opinion’ and not real people’s lives being destroyed by fascism,” tweeted actor Kelechi Okafor. “Very wild to witness.”
Yeah, so there you have it. If you’re a Biden supporter who dares to still love your Trump-supporting relatives, you’re an accessory to white supremacy, an apologist for fascists, and someone who doesn’t care all that much about “people’s lives being destroyed.”
After she’s done telling her family that she loves them, Perry might want to read these tweets and think a little bit about the crazies on her side of the political divide. She might finally realize why her family actually supports the guy who just got voted out.
