did you know?
that the reason oldna poseidal was able to conquer pentagona world in such a short period of time was due to the wars among the planets that had been going on for a long time?

Come to think of it. Was their ever an mecha anime with a non Japanese character as the lead? Like not that they are half alien or half Japanese. But straight up have no Japanese blood in them.
Hi Anon, great question! Non-Japanese leads do appear, and more appear as time goes on.
Here’s a list of just a few males off the top of my head:
Jimmy Orion from Mechander Robo. He is from the Orion System.
Cosmo Yuki from Space Runaway Ideon. He is a colonist that lives on the Solo ship.
Crinn Cashim from Fang of the Sun Dougram. His ethnicity comes up as he is accepted by Fang of the Sun even though he is the son of the leader of the Earth government on planet Deloya. Over a century of colonization has created racial differences/tension between humans born on Deloya and humans who come from Earth. Fang of the Sun would not have accepted Crinn if he had been from Earth.
Takeru Myojin from Six God Combination Godmars. His birth name is Mars, and he and his twin brother Marg are psychic aliens from planet Gishin. He has a Japanese name due to being raised by the scientist that found him as a baby (long story).
Chirico Cuvie from Armored Trooper VOTOMS. He is from the Gilgamesh Confederation and if I recall correctly, this fictional alt-Earth setting more-or-less dodges the question of nationality or ethnicity. But I could be wrong.
Stig/Stick Bernard from Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. Stig is a Scandinavian name, and the setting is post-apocalyptic alien-invasion Earth. With most of the action happening in the Western Hemisphere (North and South America). The name “Stick” is often given (and I use it myself) but it’s likely a mistranslation.
Daba Myroad from Heavy Metal L-GAIM. The setting of L-GAIM is in the Pentagona System, where its five planets have been conquered and ruled by Emperor Oldna Poseidal. The is fully space fantasy and thus the characters do not have obvious ethnicities or nationalities (e.g. traits such as skin color, hair color, hair type, eye color, etc can mix in ways rarely seen IRL). This is likely due to Mamoru Nagano being heavily involved in character design and story, as in his later work (Five Star Stories), he intentionally crafts a setting that draws inspiration for nations from modern and historical contexts and mixes their symbolism.
Van Fanel from Vision of Escaflowne. Fantasy hidden-world setting on a second moon that orbits Earth but cannot be seen. From this world, the Earth is seen like a moon in the sky. Van is a prince that has little resemblance to Japan. (Bad example as the lead of this series is Hitomi Kanzaki, a Japanese high school student)
Io Flemming from Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt. Definitely not uncommon in the Gundam franchise as a whole.
Renton Thurston from Eureka Seven. Another far future setting where humans have long since left Earth and spread across the galaxy, thus dodging nationality and ethnicity.
Apollo from Genesis Aquarian. There are characters in this series with names of European and East Asian origin, and Apollo’s name and appearance marks him as unlikely to be Japanese, but I could be wrong since I’ve not watched all of the first series.
