My Thoughts on Poppy Playtime Chapter 3

Ollie is ADORABLE!!!! "No ouchies or lost body parts?" HE'S A BABY I NEED TO PROTECT!!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!! (¬‿¬) I have ZERO evidence for this but my theory is he’s The Prototype.

I’m REALLY happy to see the phone Ollie calls the player on is identical to the one in Project: Playtime! It’s nice seeing stuff introduced in Project: Playtime finally appear in the main series.

( ⚆_⚆ ) ESPECIALLY DR. HARLEY SAWYER!!!! WOW THE TAPE FEATURING HIM TALKING TO THE PROTOTYPE WAS DARK!!!! I knew a man like Dr. Sawyer would be a sick and twisted individual since he created the Bigger Bodies Initiative.

Despite that I was NOT prepared to hear the joy in his voice to experiment on children. It was revolting.

This exchange:

Prototype: "You stick us. Beat us. Tear at flesh. Do you feel it?"

Dr. Sawyer: "There is a secret inside you, 1006. Valuable beyond all measure. I cut and prod and burn at it, and I get closer with each session . . . So speak, or don't. Fight, or give in. Regardless, I learn something new about you every day . . . (Laughs) It excites me!"

Prototype: "Thank you."

Dr. Sawyer: "You . . . thank me?"

Prototype: "Absolutely. I learn something new about you every day."

THAT FINAL LINE WHEN THE PROTOTYPE IS MIMICKING DR. SAWYER'S VOICE AHHHHHH!!!!

＿|￣|○ I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO DR. SAWYER SO BADDDDD!!!!!! He wasn’t around for The Hour of Joy but I hope he suffered.

Leith Pierre: "Normally I'd have Dr. Sawyer do this but he's uhhh . . . out, let's say. So you got me until they find his replacement."

(o ´ _ ` )o The contrast between how Dr. Sawyer speaks to the experiments VS Leith Pierre the Head of Innovation at Playtime Co.

Both dehumanize the experiments in different ways.

Leith Pierre can’t even bother remembering Catnap's real name. He puts on this fake friendly facade. Referring to Catnap as his Pal and Buddy. It's so disingenuous.

Especially when he asks, "Heya Theo! How ya doin' bud?" Pierre could care less about how Catnap feels. It's only when Catnap responds, "The Prototype will save us." That gets Pierre to finally drops the corporate spiel. Admitting to what this place is. Catnap’s prison.

No wonder Catnap worshipped The Prototype after being save when this is what he’s told about his horrific situation.

Leith Pierre: "THIS is your life now. Get used to it."

I absolutely LOVED all the new features for the Grab Pack. The air jet looked SO FUN!!!! Watching people desperately shoot the flare gun against smiling critters in a cramped space WAS SO INTENSE!!! The smiling critter's small growls and whimpers made me sad.

(ʃƪ 〃’▽’〃)♡ The horror in this chapter was INCREDIBLE!!!! While I had fun playing Chapter 2 I remember feeling disappointed by the scares.

CHAPTER THREE HAD ME HORRIFIED!!!! EVERY JUMP SCARE HAD ME FLYING OUT MY CHAIR, THE ATMOSPHERE WAS AMAZING AND AHHHHH THE HOME ORPHANAGE SECTION!!!!!

It reminded me of PT ∑(; °_°) Especially with the radio informing us that in Elliot Ludwig's house it was discovered he HAD THE BODY OF A CHILD IN A DUFFLE BAG!!?!?!?!?!?!

ALSO THAT ONE RADIO'S REVERSE MESSAGE!!!

"8-8-1995 I find your presence intrusive. After all this time you return. You come in here and yet you kill and murder. You pilate and destroy. Your presence was demanded 10 years ago and yet you didn't show up . . . 8-8-1995 You were supposed to be here. Why weren't you here? You missed the event. You missed the meeting. You missed the party. You have no right to be here . . ."

AHHHHHH MOBGAMES KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING WITH THE LIGHTING IN THIS SCENE!!!!!

I thought I was going to see MY BOY 😭💔!!!!!!

Huggy Wuggy is completely fine.

Kissy Missy was so sad and adorable in this chapter. Seeing her stare at the picture and hug herself BROKE MY HEART ( o̴̶̷᷄ _ o̴̶̷̥᷅ )!!! She deserves the world.

Catnap acting like a child and avoiding school 😭💔

Miss Delight was a minor spoiler I knew about since people used her face in their thumbnail. However I was NOT prepared for her to act like a Coil-Head!!!!

Theodore being described as antisocial and having a peculiar relationship with an imaginary friend _(:ì」∠)_.

That “imaginary” friend being The Prototype. Who guided Theodore to help them both escape. Only for Theodore to get electrocuted since he was just a child who didn't know how to safely use a Grabpack.

The Prototype throwing away their chance to escape to save Theodore by bringing him to the staff. Showing The Prototype does care in some way.

Only for Theodore to be later turned Catnap.

THEN the player electrocutes Catnap the SAME way Theodore originally received his injuries. The Prototype comes to “save” Theodore once again but this time by making Catnap a part of him AND CATNAP ACCEPTS SO WILLINGLY (˃ ⌑ ˂ഃ )!!!!

It felt like I was watching a religious experience.

I love Poppy Playtime but I do think they show too much in their trailers. Dog day is a great example but even then his scene was *chef kiss*

All the smiling critters crawling inside Dogday as he desperately screamed in agony and for us to run away left me speechless.

I liked the detail of Dogday calling us angel. I'm excited to see all the AUs people create where we save him.

ALSO THE HOUR OF JOY WAS A BLAST TO WATCH!!!!!

I know Poppy is right that it was just senseless slaughter. How all that death didn't fix or help anyone. Especially when it didn't matter if those killed were innocent or not.

However imagining these characters being painfully experimented on and stripped of their autonomy. Going though years of hell and finally reaching their breaking point. It's hard to not feel good for them getting to release that anger. Even if I know it's wrong.

ALSO I GOT TO SEE MY SECOND FAVORITE CHARACTER BOXY BOO YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

THERE WAS SOOOOO MUCH HUGGY WUGGY IMAGERY IN THIS CHAPTER AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

I'M GOING TO OVER THINK IT!!!!!! I HAVE NO THEORIES I’M JUST POINTING DETAILS OUT!!!!!!

When hallucinating Huggy Wuggy's face is on the employee training video:

“Join the Innovationists, where the bounds of science are continuously pushed. Or join the Counselors of Playcare, whose diligence and care for our children will help shape a brighter future, just you see.”

“Now every one of you has your part in that future, so should you come back tomorrow feeling unhappy for where you are, or what you’ve done . . . worry not, for your supervisor is here and happy to listen! And . . . should you come back . . . years later . . . your conscience finally getting the better of you. May you descend into the dark and the dust, finding all that awaits you are incomprehensible horrors . . . each hungry for your return, each eager that they might find you. Perhaps they’d smile at you from a shadow, their smiling mouths full of teeth and meat and plastic, watching and waiting patiently for their turn at a warm welcome. Or perhaps they won’t allow you such a time to figure your place in the world you’d left. A world that’s theirs now. Welcome home.”

The video transforms into a manifestation of the player's guilt. Not only for their involvement for whatever they did while working at Playtime Co. but for being gone and returning after ten years.

This is also paired with the player's possible guilt for killing Huggy Wuggy and their fear of him.

The hallucination version being a more exaggerated version of the Chapter 1 Huggy Wuggy vent chase.

When Catnap causes the player to later hallucinate:

Poppy: “Do you even know what’s real?”

Poppy: “No you don’t.”

THEN AT THE END OF THE HALLUCINATION IT SHOWS US THE DAY OF JOY!!!! Which is very odd when you consider two things. We've been told multiple times we weren’t there and during this scene we didn't know what the Hour of Joy was.

So the player hallucinating being in front of Huggy Wuggy’s podium during The Hour of Joy with a large Prototype hand reaching for us IS ODD!!!

ALSO THE TAPE IT SHOWS THAT’S WHERE HUGGY WUGGY WAS DURING THE HOUR OF JOY!!!!!!!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?!?!?!

This is just speculation but perhaps the player's memories aren't as trustworthy as we think. After all we still aren't even sure who even sent us the letter or tape in Chapter 1.

"EVERYONE THINKS THE STAFF DISSAPEARED 10 YEARS AGO WE'RE STILL HERE FIND THE FLOWER"

It’s important to point out the characters from Chapter 2 made ZERO appearance during these hallucinations. Mommy Long Legs, PJ Pug-a-Pillar, Bunzo Bunny and the Wack-a-Wuggy.

Is the Huggy Wuggy imagery used because he’s who we encounter at the start of the game?

Child Reader Goes to the Factory

Reader is twelve or thirteen in this. Reader’s parent is also gen neutral, but reader refers to them as both ‘mom’ and ‘dad’. Parent feels really empty and overly formal.

- Today was supposed to be Take Your Child to Work Day, but after last year when you accidentally walked in on the other night guard putting on a bloodstained bunny costume, you decided to opt out.

- After your dad left for work, you decide to explore their room. You find an unopened package with a tape and a letter inside.

- You knew that your mom worked there (Mostly because they complained about how they got fired a week in because they missed a day), but not much beyond that. You glance at the well-loved Playtime Co. toys sitting on your dresser. You’re always down for some adventure, and maybe you can finally get a Poppy doll to complete your collection...

- By the time you get to the factory, your legs are burning and you don’t want to look at another bike for a year. You force your way inside the building and immediately take note of the blood everywhere.

“...This is gonna be that damned pizzeria all over again, isn’t it?”

 - Deciding to keep a look out for potential murderers, you grab a too big grabpack, enter the main building, and see...

Huggy Wuggy

- You run up to Huggy and give him the biggest hug you can- manage.

- Holy crap, he’s just as soft as your own Huggy! Oh, and you remember when yours was still this blue. You want nothing more than to hug him for the rest of the night!

- But alas, you came here for a reason, so you let go of Huggy so you can go fix the power.

“I’ll be right back,” you say, partially as a joke. “Don’t go anywhere.”

- Of course, you freak out when you realize he’s gone.

- Throughout the night, you keep seeing glimpses of Huggy. On the one hand, it reminds you of when you were little and pretended to hide from your toys in Hide and Seek. On the other, you’ve seen enough horror movies with your friends to know that you’re probably going to die tonight.

- The chase eventually ensues and you jump into the vents like there’s no tomorrow. You almost take a few wrong turns but you manage to get away from Huggy. You see a large crate sitting above you and try to hit it with your grabpack.

- You miss by a mile, and Huggy slams through the vent door and races towards you. You scream as he grabs you, but you calm down when you realize you’re still alive.

- Once you’re calm, you look down and see a series of catwalks. You ask Huggy if he wants to come with you, but he points back at the vents. You’re unsure if he’s telling you to leave or that he can’t come with you.

- You do eventually get what he’s trying to say and promise to come back for him. But in the meantime, you ask him not to kill oh god has he been killing people or just roughing them up so they’ll leave hurt anyone who comes into the building, just in case your dad comes, too.

- After Huggy leaves, you find a door with a giant Poppy flower painted over it. The warnings around it worry you, but you didn’t come so far just to give up now.

- Eventually, you find a glass case, and inside of it is...

Poppy Playtime

- When Poppy first sees you, she’s confused. The factory has been closed for years, so what’s a kid doing here?

- Originally, she had planned for whoever came back to help her stop The Prototype, but now she wants to get you out of here before you get yourself killed.

- At some point, she hears you say that you’ve always wanted a Poppy doll. She’s worried that you’re going to take her home and treat her like a normal toy. When you find out, you wholeheartedly assure her that you think she’s just as much a person as you are.

“Yeah, it’d be nice to have a Poppy doll to complete the gang, but that’s not what you are. You’re my friend, and you’re just as real as me or my dad.”

- And just like that, you’ve become Poppy’s favorite person. You were already in her top five for freeing her, but you just became number one.

- She tells you about all of the reject toys and you both laugh over some of the silly things she’s seen Huggy do.

- Simply put, she’s your buddy, and you promise yourself that you’re not leaving without her. You’re still not sure how you’ll explain her and Huggy to your mom, but your sure you’ll come up with something.

- And when Poppy is snatched up, you jump into the pit after her without a second thought...

Poppy Playtime request! So the reader is the same type of toy as Kissy Missy and Huggy Wuggy, but kinda the same height as the player (was made for toddlers) The reader wants to help the player. At first the player is wary about the reader because of the chase with Huggy and Whack-a-Wuggy “game” but the reader proves themselves by helping the player through the Statues area w/ PJ Pug-a-Pillar. Sorry if it’s a lot. :]

When the employee first met you, they were understandable afraid.

Yet another Huggy Wuggy-type toy they recognized appeared to them; gray in fur color with no specified gender. You were the same height as a regular adult human, once in charge of caring for toddlers too young for the Game Station.

But of course, that didn’t make the employee any less worried.

In fact, they didn’t trust you in the slightest, given their previous experiences with Huggy and those colorful “mini-Huggies”. Sure, Kissy Missy might’ve lifted a gate open for them, but for all they knew she could’ve been suppressing her anger. Who knows when she might turn up again and attempt to devour them whole like every other living toy in this facility?

Yet unbeknownst to them, you knew their fears were justifiable, and you wanted to genuinely help them escape.

Given what you’ve seen so far while watching their progress and hiding from Mommy, you knew things were only gonna get worse from here. Because you knew something about the third game they were about to enter that they didn’t:

The obstacle course’s exit was caved-in, meaning they would be stuck at a dead end...with nowhere left to run from PJ. They would be trapped playing his game forever until he caught up with them or Mommy killed them.

Of course, you knew she wouldn’t let them leave so easily. She had gone too far-down the rabbit hole to care about the life of an employee she still holds a grudge against.

You on the other hand didn’t. Although the humans have done terrible things to your friends, murdering them wasn’t going to undo what happened. And you had no appetite for flesh unlike the others...so you wanted them to get out of here alive.

Unfortunately the employee didn’t believe your good intentions and bolted past you, rushing down the steps. They wanted to just finish this final game and get the train code completed.

Eventually you caught up with them as they watched the tape with Statues’ rules. You tried to stall PJ with pets, hoping to discourage him from trying to hurt them. But alas his hunger and obedience to Mommy has overridden any logic he would’ve had normally, as he wriggled past you and started creeping towards the employee, not stopping even when the lights turned on.

So you decided to go help the human instead, blocking PJ from climbing onto the pole with the rings. You couldn’t stall him for too long, but this didn’t go unnoticed by the employee, who finally realized you mean well, allowing you to watch their back as you both navigated through the rest of the game

When you came to a set of tunnels, you pointed to the one marked “Easy” before crawling into the one labeled “Hard”. Once they emerged, you did too and held a gold trophy of PJ in your mitten hands, giving it to them with a smile.

They nodded in thanks, before you pointed out the debris at the end of the path when the lights turned back on.

Discovering that they’ve been tricked, they huffed silently and spotted the observation window near it. Conveniently there was a grapple bar--exactly what they needed in order to escape.

They remembered Mommy’s threat about cheaters, but....she was no better for blocking off the exit and tricking them into playing these games.

It’s clear that she was the real cheater here.

As soon as the lights went off, they quickly shot their grabpack palm at the bar to pull themselves up, kicking through the glass and landing in the control room. They smiled in triumph at their stunt and looked back down into the arena, seeing you giving them a thumbs up.

They were expecting you to follow them, and they gestured for you to come along quickly. But you didn’t. Instead you only shook your head and waved to them.

At that moment, they realized you were waving goodbye, and their heart sunk slightly.

Were you still stalling PJ? Or perhaps..Mommy?

Yes, you had to be.

The employee was worried that you’d meet the same fates as Bunzo and those Buddies. But they couldn’t force you to come along. This place was your home despite everything that happened--and if you didn’t wanna leave that was your choice.

So they waved farewell, seeing the lights dim and you vanishing into the shadows.

They were a bit sad to leave you behind, though they remained forever grateful you helped them without there being any ulterior motive.

Hopefully they’ll meet other nice toys like you.

AU Where a Toy’s Bite Turns You into One.

Slight trigger warnings for body horror and blood. Be warned!

- You were sorely tempted to throw away the letter when you got it. You remember your days as a janitor at Playtime Co., but you also remember rumors of monsters in the building and how employees would mysteriously disappear sometimes. No way in hell you’re getting involved with that.

- But despite your reservations, you sort of missed the factory. Your employers were garbage and the idea of mysteriously vanishing was terrifying but something about the place made it worth working there.

- You would later regret going back to the factory, as you would never be the same again...

Huggy Wuggy

- In Huggy’s defense, he hadn’t meant to turn you. Granted, the alternative had was being eaten alive, but at least this way, you still get to live.

- Huggy was just so hungry. And when he saw you enter the factory, he couldn’t resist himself. In that moment, he didn’t see the kindly janitor who kept his area clean. He just saw his next meal.

- It happens during the vent chase. Huggy manages to get just close enough to you and takes a bite. A tooth snags on your shirt and digs into your arm, but you hardly notice as you’re a little busy trying not to die.

- Once Huggy’s body disappears into the depths of the factory, you finally notice the pain in your arm. You look and see a broken tooth embedded in your skin with a small patch of red fur next to it.

- You assume that the fur is Huggy’s, just stained from your blood. But when you try to brush it off, it stays in its place. Confused, you brush a little harder. But it’s still there.

- You grab it and tug. The pain from your bite wound is dulled by the realization that the fur is yours. You pull your hand away and see the same red fur sprouting across your palm. It’s followed by a quiet groaning as your bones begin to extend.

- You try to cry out for help, but all that comes out is a guttural scream. You can feel your skull reshaping itself. Your nose shrinks and your eyes come closer together.

- After what seems like forever, the transformation stops. You shakily examine your limbs. They’re longer than you remember and covered in shaggy red fur. Your hands are bright yellow with velcro across the palms.

- You open your mouth and cautiously stick a finger inside. Your teeth are just as sharp as Huggy’s are.

- You’ve been turned into a Huggy Wuggy. You sit frozen on the catwalks, unable to think about anything but how you’re life is over.

Mommy Long Legs

- Mommy had always been told, in no uncertain terms, to keep the children away from her mouth. If she didn’t know what her bite could do, she would have done it just to spite the scientists.

- But that being said, she has always wanted to turn someone into a toy. If they were like her, then they wouldn’t be able to leave, now could they?

- The second Mommy sees you, she realizes that you never worked with the toys. You must have worked above ground. That’s wonderful! Now Mommy doesn’t have to kill you!

- Mommy says that if you play a few games, she’ll give you the code. Secretly, she hopes you win them. She wouldn’t mind if the other toys bit you, but she really wants to do it herself.

- It happens after you escape from Statues. Mommy is angry enough to make it hurt, but she doesn’t want to risk killing you. Q1uick as a flash, Mommy lunges and bites your neck. Thankfully, it doesn’t hurt any more than a needle.

- Your chest and abdomen begin to expand. You wheeze as you feel all of your organs moving closer together.

- Your arms and legs begin thinning out and stretching. Your bones begin to shrink and you fall to the floor. Mommy giggles at how you’ve slumped over.

- You scream as your skin begins to turn bubblegum pink. You beg Mommy to stop whatever she’s doing to you why does your voice sound like hers? but Mommy simply laughs.

- Once it’s over, you try to stand on your new legs, but fall over. Mommy coos at this and picks you up. She takes you to an old bathroom and shows you your reflection.

- You don’t look exactly like Mommy. For one thing, you’re smaller than her. And while her eyes are circular and green, yours are oval shaped and blue. Your hair is bright pink, and three thick strands have been pulled into a rather messy side ponytail. Your body isn’t stretched out the way Mommy’s is, and you’re wearing cyan overalls and a dark pink shirt. You’re wearing the same shoes as Mommy, only yours are the same cyan as your clothes.

- You reach over towards your reflection. Your hand makes a squeaking sound as it drags across the mirror. It suddenly hits that this is you. You look like you could be Mommy’s child now.

- Mommy tosses you in the air and tells you about all the fun you two will have together. Well, all the fun you’ll have once you’ve adjusted to your new body. 

- The entire time, you nod along numbly, and wish you had just thrown that damned letter away.

Poppy

- Poppy’s bite is completely accidental. She needs your help, and you can’t exactly do that if you’re a foot tall, can you?

- It happens when Poppy slips off of a ledge. You dive in to catch her, but you fumble her. A finger ends up in her mouth and you hit her chin with the other hand.

- You hiss in pain and Poppy realizes what happens. In a panic, she tries to staunch the bleeding. She even pulls on your finger as though it will pop off. But it’s no good.

- Is it just you, or is everything getting bigger? Your head is shrinking, but not nearly as much as the rest of your body. By the time it’s done, you’re having trouble standing upright.

- Your clothes have fallen away, leaving you in a dress like Poppy’s, only yours is green. If you weren’t panicking right now, you’d probably think it was cute.

- Your hair and skin begin changing, too. Your hair, once short and straight, begins to lengthen as it turns red and frizzy. Within seconds, your skin is white as porcelain. Now that you think about it, it feels like porcelain, too.

- You stumble back from the weight of your head. The new cord on your back catches on some debris from the run down building. In your panic, you tug as hard as you can. When it finally comes free and recedes into your back, you stand up straight and ask “Can you help me polish my shoes?” in a cutesy voice. Shocked and a little embarrassed, you slap your tiny hands over your mouth.

- Despite her horror at what she’s done, Poppy snorts. She helps you up and brushes the curls out of your face. Once you’ve calmed down, she apologizes for what happened

- You take a deep breath and try not to scream. You ask Poppy if there’s any way to reverse this. Poppy hesitates, then reluctantly shrugs. She says that the researchers at the facility were trying to find a way to reverse the bite, but the factory closed down before they could figure it out.

- You’re one the verge of a complete break down, but Poppy promises that she’ll help find a way to fix this. Until then, she’ll teach you how to balance yourself properly.

- You let out a watery laugh and slowly follow Poppy back to the safety of her ‘room’.
