Tumblr media
Back in 1973 Motor Trend ran a 6-car road test of performance cars at Ontario Motor Speedway. The goal was to find the highest top speed for an American 4-passenger car. The cars were as follows: Dodge Charger 440, Chevy Laguna 454, Ford Mustang 351, Buick GS Stage 1, AMC Javelin AMX 401, and the Trans Am SD-455. The AMX was the only car with a 4-speed.
Tumblr media
Gear ratios ranged from 3.08 to 3.54 (the Trans Am was equipped with 3.42 gears). The winner was the Trans Am, clocking in at 124 mph, followed by the Dodge Charger at 121 mph, the Mustang and Laguna at 118 mph, and the Buick GS and AMC AMX at 115 mph. The Trans Am SD-455 was rated at 310 hp, but this was the pre-production version and all production models would be rated at 290 hp. Sports cars were not included.
Tumblr media
The results chart is proof that stories of then-new cars going 140+ mph off the showroom were sometimes exaggerated. Wind resistance is one of the major factors in obtaining top speed, and 1973-era were not exactly aerodynamic marvels. - MCN

I am curious: What are your current thoughts about the Toa Inika's drivining situation when they become Toa Inika?
Hahahaha I am SO glad you have asked me this because I have Thoughts
Terminology for non-Canadians (and/or Ontarians, idk what other provinces call things):
G1 - learner's permit, obtainable at 16, written test only, must have someone in the passenger seat who has had their full license at least 4 years, can't drive between midnight and 5am, can't go on certain high speed highways (401, QEW, etc) unless the person in the passenger seat is an accredited driver's ed instructor, must pass G2 exit test within 5 years or restart process
G2 - must have had a G1 for either a) 1 year or b) 8 months if graduated from driver's ed, practical exam, can drive alone, on any roads, at any time of day, certain other restrictions apply (esp if under age 19), must pass G exit test within 5 years or start over
G - must have had G2 for at least a year, practical exam, no restrictions except for basic road laws lol
MTO - Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, basically the DMV but for Ontario
OKAY SO ALL THAT SAID:
Jaller: got his G1 the day after he turned 16 because his birthday was on a Sunday and the MTO was closed. Took the driver's ed course affiliated with his school that same year. Just got his G2. Has to beg and plead to borrow a car because both his parents work and need vehicles for that, and he can bike to work from the house.
Hahli: has been driving farm vehicles illegally for several years. Has her G1 but isn't eligible for her G2 yet. Is learning how to drive from her uncle because he's the only person in her family who respects road safety laws. Can occasionally convince her parents to loan her the truck if she fills up the tank.
Kongu: got his G2 a couple months ago. Inherited his grandparents' junker. Mostly just drives himself and Tamaru to school and back. Grumbles about being his sister's taxi service but also uses this as an excuse to hang around in town.
Nuparu: almost eligible for his G2 but not quite. Took driver's ed exclusively to lower his insurance premium. The only Inika who knows how to drive stick. Wants to get a motorcycle license too. Does all his family's car maintenance in exchange for money being put into the "Nuparu Gets His Own Car" fund.
Hewkii: can't drive. Wants to move to a big city with good public transport so he never has to learn how.
Matoro: was forced to get his G1 against his will and avoids driving like the plague. Sometimes his parents make him drive to the store or something for practice and he hates it. Wants to move out to the woods so he never has to drive again.
Takua: had to learn to drive so they could take on more cleaning jobs. Is actually almost eligible for their full G license. Has the most experience driving because their mom would make them drive between jobs for practice when they had their G1. Is not allowed to cover their mom's company car with bumper stickers to their immense dismay, and also isn't allowed to borrow it for non-work reasons if it's not an emergency.

info dump about these two losers under the cut
so these freaks of nature are Zoe and Darcy. Zoe is a microbiologist (more like ex-microbiologist) who was hired by the big cool government thing to come on down to Ontario™ to find a cure for a super bad virus that was going around and killing lots of people. She’s like “👍” because she loves helping people and she gets hired along with this other scientist who’s like “wow you’re so cool let’s kiss” and they kiss and smooch and have a fun time until KABOOM the cure they were making turns out to be a SECOND deadly virus that instead of kills you turns you into a crazy mindless zombie with a weird fungal growth growing out of your body. She’s like WOAH WHAT THE SHITFARTBUTTNUGGET and ends up also getting infected by the zombie virus. She wakes up in her now broken lab all alone and looks outside and goes “woah” because she had been in a coma for 8 years and everything went to shit when the zombies got out. Now she’s like “shit this is crazy. Oh well there’s no cure and hey where did my crazy scientist girlfriend go?” And she’s like “SUPRISE MOTHER FUCKER” because her crazy scientist girlfriend actually SABOTAGED the cure and is using a special frequency to mind control the zombies and zoe is like “shit I gotta skedaddle”
across the country (in Saskatchewan (oh yeah this whole story takes place in Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🍁🍁🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦🇨🇦 btw because I’m Canadian as fuck and have never stepped a foot inside America)) there’s this loner biker girl named Darcy who is camping out in a warehouse for a while. She was away at college when the zombie apocalypse started, away from her whole family because they were in Alberta and she was off doing school or whatever in Quebec and so she wasn’t there to save her fam when they all got brutally MURDERED by zombies they got ATE they got DEVOURED. Anyways so now she’s in Saskatchewan and she’s trying to get to BC because there’s a human settlement there and she wants to go and stay because she’s getting lonely and missing her dead family. So on her way she comes across this abandoned mall and finds Zoe and Darcy’s like “AAAAHH FUCK A ZOMBIE” and Zoe is like “AAAHH FUCK A HUMAN” and they fight a lil and Darcy is like “why are you sentient????” And Zoe is like “idk man why are you attacking me?????”
so some lore there’s 5 “breeds” of zombie because there were multiple strains of the “cure” that they were testing that turned them into zombies. There’s the regular zombies, the hivemind zombies, the flying squirrel zombies, the hyper intelligent zombies (which barely even count as a strain because there are only 4 in the whole world) and the super buff zombies. So they all behave slightly different BUT they all eat flesh, try to spread the virus by biting people (which we later find out in the story it’s not a virus it’s a fungi) and they don’t attack others that smell like zombies. Also when the virus got out it only got out in North America ™ and so Canada, the US and Mexico are all an apocalyptic wasteland but everywhere else in the world is like. Fine. They just closed off their borders and they’re chill
so darcy ends up kidnapping Zoe to take her along on a big ass road trip to BC so she can basically use Zoe as a human shield to deter other zombies. Darcy hates hates HATESSSSSS the guys that made the virus because the zombies killed her entire family and Zoe doesn’t wanna tell her that she helped make it because uh oh she’s slowly falling in love with Darcy oooooooohhhhhhh. And at the same time she is trying to put as much distance as she can between her and Ontario so she can stay tf away from her ex and her crazy mind control powers oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh

Motor Vehicle Accident Claims in Toronto: Navigating the Process with Confidence
Understanding Motor Vehicle Accident Claims
In Toronto, motor vehicle accident claims are handled under Ontario’s no-fault insurance system, which is governed by the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS). This means that regardless of who is at fault for the accident, each party involved can seek compensation from their own insurance company for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
The key components of a motor vehicle accident claim include:
Accident Benefits Claim: This is a claim for compensation through your own insurance company. Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Toronto It covers a wide range of benefits, such as medical and rehabilitation expenses, income replacement, non-earner benefits, and more. These benefits are available to anyone injured in an accident, whether you were a driver, passenger, pedestrian, or cyclist.
Tort Claim: If you were not at fault for the accident, you might be entitled to file a tort claim against the at-fault driver. A tort claim allows you to seek compensation for pain and suffering, loss of income, and other damages that are not covered by your accident benefits claim. However, to pursue a tort claim, your injuries must meet a certain threshold, known as the "threshold test," which assesses the severity and impact of your injuries.
Steps to Take After an Accident
The steps you take immediately after an accident can significantly impact the success of your motor vehicle accident claim. Here’s what you should do:
Ensure Safety: The first priority is to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Move to a safe location if possible, and check for any injuries.
Call the Police: In Toronto, you are required to call the police if the accident involves injuries, fatalities, or significant property damage (over $2,000). The police report will be a crucial piece of evidence in your claim.
Exchange Information: Gather information from all parties involved, including names, contact details, insurance information, and vehicle registration numbers. If there are any witnesses, collect their contact information as well.
Document the Scene: Take photos and videos of the accident scene, vehicle damage, road conditions, and any visible injuries. This documentation will support your claim.
Seek Medical Attention: Even if you feel fine, it’s important to seek medical attention as some injuries may not be immediately apparent. A medical report will also be necessary for your claim.
Notify Your Insurance Company: Report the accident to your insurance company as soon as possible. They will guide you through the process of filing an accident benefits claim.
Working with a Personal Injury Lawyer
Navigating the motor vehicle accident claims process can be complex, especially when dealing with insurance companies that may try to minimize your compensation. Motor Vehicle Claim Lawyer Ontario Working with a personal injury lawyer in Toronto can provide you with the expertise needed to maximize your claim. Benefits of Driving Lessons In Sarnia Before Road Test
Driving is an essential skill that offers independence, convenience, and freedom. However, mastering this skill requires proper guidance and practice. In Sarnia, taking driving lessons before attempting the road test can significantly enhance a learner's chances of success. Here are some key benefits of enrolling in driving lessons in Sarnia before taking your road test.
Comprehensive Understanding of Road Rules and Regulations
One of the primary benefits of driving lessons is gaining a thorough understanding of the road rules and regulations. Professional driving instructors are well-versed in the laws specific to Ontario, ensuring that learners are aware of the latest traffic rules and guidelines. This knowledge is crucial for passing the road test and for safe driving practices in the long term.
Developing Essential Driving Skills
Driving lessons provide learners with the opportunity to develop and hone essential driving skills. These include fundamental skills such as steering, braking, and accelerating, as well as more advanced techniques like parallel parking, merging onto highways, and navigating roundabouts. Professional instructors can identify and correct any bad habits or mistakes early on, ensuring that learners are well-prepared for the road test.
Building Confidence Behind the Wheel
Confidence is key when it comes to driving. Many new drivers feel nervous or anxious about getting behind the wheel, especially when facing the prospect of a road test. Driving lessons help build confidence by providing a structured learning environment where learners can practice and improve their skills. Instructors offer constructive feedback and support, helping learners feel more at ease and self-assured.
Personalized Instruction
Driving lessons offer the advantage of personalized instruction tailored to the learner's individual needs and pace. Instructors can focus on specific areas where the learner may need extra practice or guidance, such as handling intersections or understanding road signs. This personalized approach ensures that learners receive the attention and support they need to succeed.
Tumblr media
Preparation for the Road Test
Driving lessons are designed to prepare learners specifically for the road test. Instructors are familiar with the format and requirements of the test, and they can simulate the test conditions to give learners a realistic experience. This preparation includes practicing the driving maneuvers that will be tested, understanding the test routes, and learning how to handle the pressure of the test environment. Being well-prepared can significantly increase the likelihood of passing the road test on the first attempt.
Safety Awareness
Safety is paramount when it comes to driving. Driving lessons emphasize the importance of safety on the road, teaching learners about defensive driving techniques, hazard perception, and the proper use of mirrors and signals. Understanding these aspects not only helps in passing the road test but also promotes responsible driving habits that can prevent accidents and save lives.
Cost-Effective in the Long Run
While there is an upfront cost associated with driving lessons, they can be cost-effective in the long run. Failing the road test multiple times can lead to additional fees and the need for more practice. By investing in driving lessons, learners can increase their chances of passing the test on the first try, saving time and money. Moreover, some insurance companies offer discounts to new drivers who have completed professional driving lessons, which can further offset the initial cost.
Access to Professional Expertise
Driving instructors are professionals with extensive experience and expertise in teaching new drivers. They are trained to provide clear and effective instruction, handle different learning styles, and offer valuable insights that learners might not gain from practicing with family or friends. This professional expertise ensures that learners receive high-quality education and training.
Conclusion
Taking driving lessons in Sarnia before attempting the road test offers numerous benefits that go beyond simply passing the test. It provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of road rules, essential driving skills, and the confidence needed to drive safely and responsibly. The personalized instruction, safety awareness, and professional expertise offered by driving instructors can make a significant difference in a learner's driving journey. Investing in driving lessons is a wise decision that can lead to long-term benefits, ensuring a lifetime of safe and confident driving.
