Um plástico que derrete na água quente e na água salgada foi criado pela empresa britânica Wastebasedco. Batizado de Item Bag 2.0, a solução foi pensada como uma alternativa sustentável às embalagens plásticas usadas para transportar roupas.

Trata-se de um saco biodegradável desenvolvido com tinta atóxica de modo que pode ser dissolvido na água, em segundos, sem deixar rastros de contaminação. Também possui alguns minerais não tóxicos que podem descer pelo ralo sem problemas – garante a companhia.

Você pode imaginar que trata-se de um material frágil, mas pelo contrário: é 2,5 vezes mais forte que o filme de polietileno. Pode ser adotado por lavanderias e lojas de roupas, por exemplo. O consumidor recebe o produto e, ao invés de descartar, basta ferver a embalagem.

A companhia explica que, ao contrário do que possa parecer à primeira vista, o plástico não se dissolve formando microplásticos. “A mistura resultante contém biomassa mineralizada e tinta não tóxica (a tinta é solúvel em álcool, não em água, por isso flutua no vídeo”, garante.

Além de substituir os plásticos que transportam vestuários, há outro mercado que a Wastebasedco está explorando – o de envelopes usados pelo comércio eletrônico.

Ao invés de criar embalagens recicláveis, ela optou por embalagens compostáveis. A empresa ressalta que a crise da reciclagem é mundial e que “não é porque algo é reciclável significa que será reciclado”.

Os envelopes compostáveis são 100% à prova d’água porque é preciso garantir que sua função seja garantida. Não dá para correr o risco da embalagem ser “estragada” no meio do processo. Ainda assim, o invólucro se degrada na natureza após cerca de seis meses em condições adequadas: na presença de oxigênio, calor e umidade.
