Still not a huge fan of Faile's attitude, but now that I know it's part of her culture I'm more understanding and forgiving. Elyas, you did a much better job explaining than Bashere did

The Asha'man are definitely working for Taim, right? Like they don't actually have any loyalty to Rand, just the Black Tower? I have an awful feeling about this

The Nynaeve/Elayne/Birgitte/Aviendha adventure continues to be one of my favorites, even more so now that Lan is added to the mix. And Elayne asking Aviendha to be first sisters? AUGH

I adored the Seanchan sections! It's fascinating seeing how the different cultures work and the different power structures at play

It is quite funny that Morgase is just There, even if There is now gai'shain to the Shaido lmao

I'm definitely feeling the slog, this book was my lowest rated so far, but it had its good moments. It probably doesn't feel as bad to me since I listen to the audiobooks at work. I've seen a couple spoilers for the next book and I'm excited! On to the next!

Thoughts: Path of Daggers

I have to say, I'm feeling the slog that has been described to me by those who have already read the Wheel of Time. This book moved at such a glacial pace that it's difficult to put a finger on what actually happened. The biggest change, where the battle for the White Tower finally begins, happens in the last chapter and is unresolved.

Yes, Rand had another assassination attempt and Faile got captured, but it was kind of a letdown. When the book is The Path of Daggers I expected more... actual daggers? Backstabbing? Maybe just a little bit of hubris for Rand? This book has a ton of political maneuvering, maybe more than in any book I've read before, and yet it's all quite dull.

I think this comes about from the fact that stakes are often stated, but very seldom challenged. Nynaeve, Elaine, and Siuan stress quite a bit over the infighting of their factions and yet it hardly ever manifests as direct conflict. The passive-aggressive maneuvering is more tiring than anything else, and this is already a very tiring series to read given that it is jam-packed with Robert Jordan's bullshit theories of gender roles and politics.

Anyway, I am assured the ending is well worth the slog. I just have to remember the satisfying conclusion to Book 2 to know that Robert has the full capability to pull all of this into a brilliantly satisfying climax.

Currently reading: Wheel of Time The Path of Daggers (Book Eight).

It's mostly finished. So far I've really enjoyed the character development across all the books. I'm excited to see what happens next. There are characters that I don't care for but I assume have some significance later in the story.

I have a few theories around what's going on with Rand. Not enough of Perrin or Mat in this particular book but that's because they're a fave. I'll probably provide a proper post once it's completed as you never know what the last 100 pages holds.
