Pediatric Hematology-Oncology: Advances in Childhood Cancer Treatment
With time, many recent advances and developments have been made in Pediatric Hematology and oncology. Students often are short of time to track such recent findings, which can prevent them from becoming the best medical professionals.
If we look at this branch of MD, we can see that many new ways of treating cancer have entered the field. All of these help children battle cancer easily. To make you aware of such recent developments, we are writing this blog post.
Therefore, as a postgraduate, you must be aware of what is currently happening in the field of Pediatric Oncology.
Latest advances in treating childhood cancer treatment
Over the last few decades, there have been many advances made in the field of Pediatrics and Hematology, which are discussed below:
CAR T Cell Therapy:
If you want to know about how to prevent childhood cancer with the newest and most personalized treatment, then CAR T Cell Therapy has all your answers. This Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T Cell Therapy is for kids who get leukemia back even after treatment.
Radiation therapy:
Although Radiation therapy is another childhood cancer treatment, yet again, it is the talk of the town because newer and more precise ways of delivering radiation are being developed. In this therapy, cancer cells are destroyed with the help of high-energy X-rays, protons, and photons. It includes both external and internal radiation therapy.
Precision medicine:
The scope of treating childhood cancer goes beyond the universally applicable treatments mentioned above. In this approach, genetic analysis can find out the mutations causing a child’s cancer, which allows doctors to customize their treatment, which gives fewer side effects than chemotherapy.
Liquid biopsy:
Another type of development made in childhood cancer treatment is Liquid biopsy. This minimally invasive technique allows doctors to quickly identify a kid's cancer cells. They do this by analyzing tumor DNA found in their blood. This can help them to give better treatment to the children when the cancer relapses again.
By reading these discoveries, we can see that children can overcome cancer and come back to living healthier and happier lives than they used to live earlier.
The following section is designed for postgraduate students who want to learn more about this field.
Pediatrics MD— Course
This Pediatrics MD course at DigiNerve, designed by Dr. Piyush Gupta, helps students get all the latest and resourceful information they can't get elsewhere due to their time shortage.
By enrolling in this MD in Pediatrics, students can get a range of benefits such as:
Online video lectures: The course includes 170+ hours of pediatrics video lectures.
Self-assessment questions: If you want to practice yourself and know where you stand, then you can try 1490+ MCQ questions outlined in the course.
Engagement activities: There are a range of activities, such as chat shows, journal clubs, and recent updates on the field.
AI chatbot: Dr. Wise (AI chatbot) can help you clarify all your theoretical and practical concepts.
So, if you want to stay updated with the latest information and advances in Pediatric Oncology, buy this course now!
Conclusion

hi actually yeah lemme go off about medical security for a moment. i'm gnawing at the bit after some of the tropes i've seen around in both fic and drama. i'll be talking about general med-surg because psych has a bit of a different layout (hospitals are "patient information is confidential", psych floors are "the patient does not even fucking exist on this floor")
a. you do not just. talk about your patient in the middle of the elevator, or a cafeteria, or any other area that isn't a private conference room. yes, i know it's tempting to gossip about your patient over lunch with your work besties. no, don't do it. you don't know who will overhear you.
b. you do not access information on patients that aren't specifically under your care. this can and will get you investigated, sometimes dismissed. no, they don't care if there's a celebrity on your floor, or if your family member is on the unit, or loved one. (you shouldn't even be caring for those last two!)
c. you do not take pictures of patient care, whether their chart or the patient themselves. (this one is also an irl grievance! tiktok, stop fucking taking pictures and videos of your patients! stop it! that is a privacy violation, that's humiliating, and i hope you get investigated for it. you are medical care personnel, not a fucking tabloid journalist.) i've actually had fellow classmates be dismissed for this one.
d. sweet gods above, you do not get into a relationship with your patient. i don't even have anything to say here besides. don't. conflict of interest is knocking at your door and she has a sweet little lawsuit in her hand. yes, i've heard of a case of this; yes, it went about as well as you expected. (not.)
e. i'll probably remember more while i'm procrastinating on this pediatrics lecture.

What is Hydrocephalus? What is the Main Cause of Hydrocephalus
Medical science is complex, it includes studying topics like diseases, causes, and treatments to help people live healthy lives. One such topic that is crucial to understand in detail is Hydrocephalus.
So, let’s understand the basics about the subject and then we will discuss how you can grab in-depth information and study resources about the subject.
What is Hydrocephalus?
Hydrocephalus is a chronic neurological disorder where the fluid (Cerebrospinal fluid) builds inside the brain.
Though the Cerebrospinal fluid is already present inside the brain and acts as a caution, the excess can permanently damage the brain. It puts pressure on the skull and squashes surrounding brain tissue, which causes problems with physical and mental development. If untreated, it is usually fatal.
The condition is primarily common in infants or people older than 60. The common symptoms of hydrocephalus in infants include:
Increase in the size of an infant's head
A bulge or tense soft spot on the top of the head
Nausea and vomiting
Sleepiness or sluggishness
Poor eating
Seizures
Eyes fixed downward
Problems with muscle tone and strength.
The following are the more common symptoms of hydrocephalus among adults 60 and older:
Loss of bladder control
Memory loss
Progressive loss of reasoning skills.
Trouble walking
Poor coordination or balance.
Remember: The systems among toddlers, children, and middle-aged adults can differ.
Types of Hydrocephalus
The following are the different types of Hydrocephalus:
Congenital hydrocephalus: It is caused by a brain malformation or birth defect that causes excessive cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to accumulate in brain cavities, called subarachnoid space.
Acquired hydrocephalus: Usually resulting from a stroke, brain tumour, meningitis, or a severe head injury.
Communicating hydrocephalus: A condition when the flow of CSF is blocked after leaving the ventricles. Because CSF can still flow between the brain’s ventricles, it is also called “communicating.”
Non-communicating hydrocephalus: Also known as obstructive hydrocephalus, this type occurs when the narrow pathways connecting the ventricles become blocked.
Normal pressure hydrocephalus: NPH affects primarily those aged 60 and up. It can arise following a stroke, injury, infection, surgery, or hemorrhage.
Hydrocephalus ex-vacuo: Occurs after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or degenerative disease. In this type, as brain tissue shrinks, the brain's ventricles become larger.
Now that we know the symptoms and types of hydrocephalus, let's dive in to learn about the causes so we can understand the problem better.
What is the Main Cause of Hydrocephalus
There are two distinct cause categories into which hydrocephalus can be classified:
Congenital
Acquired
Congenital hydrocephalus is the result of both genetic and environmental factors working together during foetal development. The following are the main reasons for congenital hydrocephalus:
Spina bifida and other brain and spinal cord (neural tube) defects.
A narrowing of the small passage between the third and fourth ventricles of the brain (aqueductal stenosis).
Complications of premature birth, such as bleeding within ventricles.
Mom has an infection during pregnancy.
On the other hand, Acquired hydrocephalus develops after birth and can affect people of all ages. Below, we have listed the most common causes of acquired hydrocephalus:
Brain or spinal cord tumours
Head trauma
Stroke
Meningitis or other infections of your brain or spinal cord.
After gaining a basic understanding of the subject, let us give you a solution that will help you get more details of the topic: Pediatrics MD Course!

Enroll in an online pediatrics course.
Without the assistance of a professional, it can be challenging to find the study material and understand the basics of the subject.
That is why Dr. Piyush Gupta designed this course for students preparing for an MD in pediatrics.
The course includes pediatrics video lectures along with other crucial resources.

Mastering the PLAB 1 Exam: Comprehensive Course Guide for International Medical Graduates
Introduction
The PLAB 1 (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) exam is a critical step for international medical graduates aiming to practice medicine in the UK. Managed by the General Medical Council (GMC), PLAB 1 assesses a candidate’s knowledge, skills, and ability to work as a junior doctor in the National Health Service (NHS). While it’s known for its high standards and challenging format, preparing with a structured PLAB 1 course can be the key to success. This guide explores what to expect from a high-quality PLAB 1 course, benefits of structured preparation, and essential elements that contribute to an efficient study experience.
Understanding the PLAB 1 Exam
PLAB 1 is a multiple-choice exam with 180 questions that must be completed within three hours. The questions are based on real-life scenarios that assess the examinee’s ability to apply medical knowledge practically, especially in areas of patient safety, diagnostic skills, and treatment planning. Given the diversity of content covered in PLAB 1, the right course can be instrumental in helping candidates build the foundation needed to perform well.
Tumblr media
Key Components of a PLAB 1 Course
Comprehensive Curriculum: A robust PLAB 1 course should cover essential topics such as medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, psychiatry, and ethics. With a curriculum designed to address all areas of the PLAB 1 blueprint, the course enables students to thoroughly understand the exam’s scope and structure.
Practice Question Banks: To build confidence and test knowledge, effective courses include access to extensive question banks that reflect the PLAB 1 exam format. These banks allow candidates to familiarize themselves with various question types and develop critical thinking skills that are crucial for the exam.
Mock Exams and Time Management Training: Mock exams are invaluable for simulating test conditions and assessing progress. PLAB 1 courses often provide several mock tests to help students improve speed, accuracy, and time management, as candidates must answer 180 questions in a limited timeframe.
Interactive and Flexible Learning: Many courses offer interactive, online study options tailored to international students who may need the flexibility to learn at their own pace. Video lectures, live webinars, and recorded sessions make learning accessible from any location.
Expert Guidance and Personalized Feedback: Having access to experienced instructors who have mastered the PLAB exams can make a big difference. Good courses provide one-on-one mentorship, allowing candidates to clarify doubts, receive feedback, and get study tips from knowledgeable tutors.
Focus on High-Yield Topics: The vast syllabus can make it challenging to decide what to prioritize, but experienced instructors can provide insights on high-yield topics that are likely to appear in the exam. Efficiently covering these areas can enhance candidates’ chances of success.
Peer Support and Study Groups: Being part of a community of fellow candidates provides added motivation, along with the benefit of shared knowledge. Group discussions and forums allow candidates to exchange insights, discuss challenging questions, and support each other.
Focus on UK Healthcare Context: PLAB 1 places emphasis on the context of UK healthcare. Courses should address the nuances of practicing in the NHS, including patient care standards, UK medical ethics, and health regulations, which can differ significantly from those in other countries.
Advantages of Enrolling in a PLAB 1 Course
Structured Learning Path: The wide-ranging syllabus for PLAB 1 can be overwhelming without proper organization. A good course organizes topics into manageable modules, helping candidates build knowledge incrementally rather than all at once.
Improved Confidence and Reduced Stress: With consistent practice and instructor support, candidates can go into the exam feeling prepared and confident. This reduces stress and anxiety associated with tackling a rigorous test.
Efficient Study Techniques: PLAB 1 courses often include study and memory techniques tailored for medical exams, such as mnemonics, flashcards, and repetition. These tools make it easier to retain complex medical information.
Increased Likelihood of Passing on First Attempt: A well-rounded course provides a strong foundation, equipping candidates with the skills needed to pass PLAB 1 on their first attempt. Many courses also offer guarantees or support in the form of extra classes if a candidate needs to retake the exam.
Sample Topics Covered in a PLAB 1 Course
Respiratory Medicine: Diseases such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and tuberculosis, with emphasis on diagnosis, treatment options, and emergency management.
Cardiology: Heart conditions like myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, and hypertension, with a focus on ECG interpretation and treatment protocols.
Neurology: Common neurological conditions like stroke, epilepsy, and migraines, along with clinical presentation and management.
Infectious Diseases: Study of common infections in the UK, antibiotic resistance, and patient management in the context of UK healthcare guidelines.
Pediatrics and Gynecology: Common pediatric illnesses and gynecological issues, including childbirth, postpartum care, and emergency treatments.
Ethics and Communication Skills: Best practices in medical ethics, patient communication, and respecting patient autonomy within the UK healthcare framework.
PLAB 1 Course Delivery Options
PLAB 1 courses are generally available in various formats to meet different learning needs. Here are common types:
Online Courses: Ideal for candidates who prefer flexibility, online courses offer video lectures, recorded sessions, and digital resources accessible anytime. These courses often include live Q&A sessions, webinars, and interactive question banks.
In-Person Classes: For candidates who benefit from a traditional classroom environment, in-person classes offer direct interaction with tutors and peers. Some courses are intensive weekend or week-long boot camps focused on exam preparation.
