Originally from New York, Jeremy Wotsman moved to Melbourne in 2001, and launched his business, The Jacky Winter Group, in 2007.  Initially founded as an illustration agency, Jeremy started out representing 12 talented local artists – and like every good start-up, he started the business from his bedroom!
Fast forward to 2019, and The Jacky Winter Group and has evolved into a full-service creative representation and production agency, with 15 staff, and offices in both Melbourne and New York. Today, the company represents over 100 commercial artists, and works for clients including Google, Apple, Facebook, The New York Times, and SO many more!
Under the Jacky Winter umbrella, Jeremy also runs Lamington Drive gallery, and the Jacky Winter Gardens guesthouse and artist residency, and he also co-hosts his own BRILLIANT weekly podcast, Jacky Winter Gives You The Business (JWGYTB), which I highly recommend. Outside of work, Jeremy is also the host of the Melbourne chapter of Creative Mornings.
Jeremy is passionate about art, and tech, and the Internet… and he is one of those people who is just is so wise in such a broad range of areas, and so generous with his wisdom!

In our conversation, Jeremy mentions Is Not Magazine, his award-winning early magazine project with Stuart Geddes and Penny Modra.
Jeremy’s first business was a design studio called Chase and Galley, co-founded with Stuart Geddes.
We’ve run a few stories about Jeremy over the years – one of my personal favourites is where we featured him in our Family column, with some gorgeous snaps of his kids Winifred and Jeronimo.
The Jacky Winter Group HQ in Collingwood is TRULY A DREAM office, it has a treadmill workstation, a podcast recording room(!), an amazing exterior mural, and even a self-contained ‘sleep room’!
Jacky Winter also operates Lamington Drive gallery.
Jeremy is also the founder and co-host of brilliant podcast Jacky Winter Gives You The Business.
Outside of work, he hosts Creative Mornings’ Melbourne Chapter.
The Way Back Machine is a historical archive of almost every website on the internet, where you can go back to early versions of all your favourite websites! (Thanks Jeremy for another amazing tip off!)
Jeremy was super chuffed this year when one of his illustrators, Sophie Beer, was commissioned to create a ‘Google Doodle’ for the first time! Check it out here.
This is the 32nd episode of our TDF Podcast – thanks so much for listening! You can browse all or revisit any episode here.

Are the Seattle Seahawks ready for the return of ‘Beast Mode?’
CHARLOTTE, NC – JANUARY 17: Marshawn Lynch #24 of the Seattle Seahawks looks on prior to the NFC Divisional Championship Game versus the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Arena on January 17, 2016 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Picture by Ronald C. Modra/Getty Images)
Retired running back Marshawn Lynch is considering a return to the Seattle Seahawks this season, just in time for the playoffs
Pete Carroll’s period as Seattle Seahawks head coach is defined by one play, his failure to hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch with the Super Bowl on the line. And now, five years later, he could be depending on Lynch to come in and save another Seahawks season.
Lynch is traveling to Seattle on Monday to consult with the Seahawks and talk about a possible go back to the group, sources informed NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The 33- year-old running back hasn’t played in an NFL game given that Week 6 of 2018 with the Oakland Raiders.
Sunday’s loss in your home to the Cardinals did more than dent the Seahawks’ possibilities of protecting home-field benefit in the NFC playoffs. It left them scrambling to find someone to carry on. Leading rush Chris Carson suffered a hip injury that will end his season Backup C.J. Prosise was also lost for the season with a broken arm, leaving Rashaad Penny and novice sixth-round draft pick Travis Homer as the only healthy running backs on the Seahawks roster.
Could Lynch be available in and fill deep space? He’s retired and unretired in the past, sitting out the 2016 season prior to returning to play two seasons for his home town Raiders. He left Seattle after the 2015 season as the 4th leading rusher in franchise history and behind just Shaun Alexander in career goals.
I doubt he ‘d supply a great deal of help on the field. However if the #Seahawks think that generating Marshawn Lynch would offer ANY spirits increase, they should bust out the skittles.
— Paul Gallant (@GallantSays) December 23, 2019
” Beast Mode” was accountable for some of the most unforgettable minutes in Seahawks tradition: his “Beast Quake” rumble into the end zone versus the Saints in the 2010 NFC Wild Card Game; the Seahawks Super Bowl victory over the Broncos following the 2013 season, the only champion in group history. However when Seattle was one-yard away from winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles, Lynch wasn’t provided the ball and rather Russell Wilson’s pass was chosen off at the objective line by the Patriots Malcolm Butler.
It’s a play that’s haunted the Seahawks and their “12 th Man” fans since, but who stated there’s never ever any second opportunities. Lynch’s return would be at the ideal moment, in the nick of time for another Seattle playoff run.

ON OUR WEBSITE
For our latest Pollinate article – where we bring together expert thinkers and doers in conversation – we gather three local writing legends to give insight on putting your architectural thoughts articulately into words. Here, creative writer Amanda Maxwell, The Good Copy’s editorial director (and resident grammar nerd) Penny Modra, and poet and architect Dr Alex Selenitsch share their knowledge on writing about place.
Alex, Amanda and Penny led the first edition of ‘Assemblage: A Workshop’ on Saturday 17 December at MPavilion. The hugely popular workshop was designed to provide emerging writers, artists, poets and architectural enthusiasts alike with the tools to write about and better express interpretations of the built environment.

In her 10-years of running The Design Files, I’m sure you’ll agree Lucy Feagins has certainly made an amazing contribution to the Australian design landscape.
As founder and editor, she’s penned countless articles that introduce and champion local creatives as well as art directed and styled more shoots and short films than you’d think humanly possible!
The trailblazer behind TDF’s real-world events, from Open House to TDF Collect, speaker series, workshops and demonstrations, this working-mum is one multi-talented woman.
But aside from all of this, for us at TDF, Lucy is a brilliant boss, down-to-Earth role model and cherished friend.
We hope you enjoy more of an insight into the brand she has built and where she’s taking things next.
We’ve added so many wonderful visuals (cute baby Lucy pics) to this podcast. Listen using the Overcast or Pocket Casts apps to see, and swoon, over them all!

We recently interviewed Rachel Castle for this podcast, where she talked about her conscious decision to ‘stay small’.
Her top-three highlights from over the past 10 years are: The first TDF Open House in 2011 with Esther Navarro-Orejon of The Project Agency, building her team to what it is today, and creating the Milan In Colour series earlier this year. Her most visited website, other than TDFs, is Medium.
Most recent purchases include white linen shirts from Uniqlo for summer, and cute little floral dresses for Minnie from locally-designed children’s label Pretty Wild.
An exciting local maker she’s excited about is Manapan Furniture. Read Sally Tabart’s awesome feature story here. Other faves include Sean Meilak and Tantri Mustika.
Favourite interviews from the past 10 years are those with Ken Done, Donna Hay and Marilyne Nicholls.
