Drivers notch up over 600 laps in Pirellis 2024 tyre test as Mick Schumacher makes Mercedes debut
Ferrari and Mercedes’ drivers have notched up over 600 laps between them over the course of two days of lapping the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – host of last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix – as Pirelli tested a selection of proposed tyre compounds for the 2024 season. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, and Mercedes’ George Russell and Mick Schumacher – the team’s reserve, who was making his on-track debut for the Silver Arrows in the newly-upgraded W14 – clocked up 617 laps between them across Tuesday and Wednesday: 167 for Leclerc, 152 for Schumacher, 151 for Russell and 147 for Sainz. WATCH: Schumacher returns to F1 action with first run in Mercedes’ W14 “These were two very important days of testing,” said Pirelli’s Head of Motorsport Mario Isola, “as we gathered plenty of useful information to come up with the best possible choices for next year. “In terms of construction, there are still just a few details to fine-tune, while during this test we began to identify a solid development base for the compounds; especially for the middle of what will be the 2024 range.” Ferrari and Mercedes were on hand to test the new rubber Meanwhile, Pirelli confirmed that running took place without the use of tyre blankets – with the manufacturer having been set to trial a blanket-less wet weather compound at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix before it was called off last month. “All the running took place without using tyre blankets. George Russell discusses the new compounds with the Pirelli engineers “There is obviously a difference between the simulator and driving in the real world,” he added. “There will always be a difference as the technology is not at a point where you can compare it 100%. However, it is the closest experience I've had between a simulator and real life. The simulator has prepared me, and the team has made a great effort of correlating it. one of the big things i think a lot of people miss when they compare oscar & logan right now is that while there may be a significant difference in talent between them, mclaren have properly set oscar up for success with lots and lots of testing since he's joined them in their previous car.
barcelona in december '22 with the mcl35m, and then barcelona again, paul-ricard and silverstone in february. imola in april, hungary in june! he also did the standard young drivers test, which i think logan did too, in the mcl36 in abu dhabi '22 – but he also did the pirelli tyre tests in silverstone and spa in the mcl60, and while he isn't at alpine anymore, they did provide him with a fairly extensive testing program in their previous cars too while he was still their junior in his "gap" year of 2022. so he's had the opportunity to 'learn' f1 cars, and also the "quirks" of the mclaren built ones too.
logan, as vowels said, has been thrown in at the deep end, probably a year too early, without any testing opportunities outside of 1.5 days in bahrain. williams most likely doesn't have the budget to send him out testing, and they recognise that. i assume they're treating this year like one long test session, so i hope they do give him another year to show what he can do in 2024!
yeh exactly, oscar had a whole year out where he was constantly testing the alpine and mclaren, he has that experience that's needed, logan was so inexperienced and underprepared that the fp1 sessions last year were mainly so he could gain the distance needed for his super licence n i get why he was thrown in so quick but really he should've had another year of f2 or took a year out like oscar did n use that year for testing

For 2024, Ducati updates the colour range of the Panigale V2 with a new Black on Black Livery, which accompanies the classic Ducati Red. The new livery enhances the bold character of the Panigale V2. The predominance of dark matt grey is intercut with the presence of glossy black elements, for a refined final combination. The livery is completed by the Panigale V2 logo and the red details on the tank, fairings and wheels. Another new feature introduced by the Black on Black Livery is the saddle, with renewed graphics and materials. The Panigale V2 is a muscular but compact bike, with essential design and decisive profiles which transmit power without losing the typical elegance of Ducati sports bikes. The surfaces of the bike, tailored around the Monocoque frame, highlight the shapes of the Superquadro twin-cylinder, while the front is dominated by the two air intakes that integrate the full-LED headlamp. The "double layer" fairing - which sees a main fairing extending upwards to ideally embrace the tank and a secondary one with the function of an air extractor - offers the typical essentiality of Ducati sports bikes, emphasising elegance and uniqueness.

A sporty style that integrates fully with the power expressed by the Panigale V2 engine, the 955 cc Superquadro twin-cylinder. Euro 5 approved, the Superquadro is as enjoyable to ride on the road as it is powerful and responsive on the track, with its 155 hp at 10,750 rpm and a torque value of 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm. Safety and total bike control are always guaranteed by the electronic equipment of the Panigale V2, based on the use of the 6-axis inertial platform. The electronic package includes ABS Cornering EVO, Ducati Traction Control (DTC) EVO 2, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO, Ducati Quick Shift up/down (DQS) EVO 2 and finally Engine Brake Control (EBC) EVO, which helps the rider to optimise the stability of his or her Ducati in extreme cornering conditions. Together with the celebratory Panigale V2 Bayliss, the Panigale V2 is the only twin-cylinder in Ducati's Panigale range. Every Ducatista can make their Panigale V2 unique thanks to a wide range of accessories in the "Configurator" section  of the Ducati.com website, where all the components of the Sport package are available, designed to enhance the racing spirit of the bike. I'm happy and I wanted to share what happened in my high school the other day with someone. The engineer Pirelli sent to Alpine this year (and the one who was working in Alpha Tauri this last two years) is a guy from my town!!! He came to give us a talk about his experience and it was supposed to be only for the sciene students but my philosophy professor knew I'm very fan of F1 and take us to the talk. HIBS, I'VE TALKED WITH A MAN THAT HAS WORKED WITH FERNANDO ALONSO AND HE TOLD ME CURIOSITIES ABOUT THE PADDOCK. ALSO HE IS FRIEND WITH MY FRIEND'S BROTHER. We are a small town in the south of Spain so we are very proud of having that guy working where he works. Also, they change teams every two years, imagine if he works in Ferrari in 2024?? I would literally die 😂😂😂

WEC allows one-off return for tyre warmers at Le Mans 24 Hours after crashes | WEC
The ban on the use of tyre warmers in the World Endurance Championship will be relaxed for the series’ blue riband race at Le Mans next month. The FIA and l’Automobile Club de l’Ouest has permitted the change as a one-off measure which will apply across all classes. It follows a series of crashes in the opening rounds of the championship. Ferrari’s Antonio Fuoco crashed heavily during the last round of the championship at Spa-Francorchamps. Render van der Zande also suffered a race-ending shunt in his Cadillac. The FIA and ACO said they had “conducted an in-depth evaluation of tyre usage data together with the FIA World Endurance Championship’s exclusive tyre suppliers Michelin and Goodyear” in reaching the decision. “The exemption is limited to the 24 Hours of Le Mans only, ensuring that drivers of all experience levels will be able to compete in the safest possible environment regardless of track conditions and temperatures, while tyre manufacturers, teams and drivers will gain valuable time to develop better understanding of how to bring cold tyres up to temperature ahead of the remainder of the 2023 FIA WEC season,” the governing bodies stated. The FIA is moving to outlaw tyre warmers in order to reduce energy consumption. It aims to do the same in Formula 1, where official tyre supplier Pirelli is developing new compounds designed to be used without tyre blankets. F1 teams will vote in July on whether to go ahead with the ban on tyre warmers in 2024.
