My ideal female character types:
It’s the Month of Love, so I decided to just ramble and gush about the types of men and women I am attracted to in fiction. Ladies first:
The morally complicated badass lady. (From left to right: Juli Kidman from The Evil Within, and Naomi Kimishima form Trauma Center, Second Opinion)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Juli is a more recent example as I completed both TEW1 and TEW2 and to me, she’s the best blueprint for a morally complex character. Not to mention that she is attractive without having her design be trying way too hard to cause a boner like the typical bland skimpy bikini “outfit” with little to no substance. Plus she has a similar look to Helena Harper, and I already find Helena attractive, so seeing Juli only made it better. Also, the hair is magnificent. That aside, Juli working for MOBIUS and reluctantly doing their dirty work as well as being the MVP in TEW2 as much as that game gave me mixed feelings and saving Sebastian and Lily. Girl single-handedly saved a dad and his daughter all while taking out a corrupt organization like MOBIUS, how can you not love her?
Naomi Kimishima is also hella attractive. Whenever her levels popped up when I watched a playlist of someone’s Trauma Center playthrough, I would be excited because I loved her levels, her levels were my absolute favorite to play and because I love her design and her voice, like wow. Not to mention that she is one of the best doctors in the series. Not to mention that she briefly worked for the company that was guilty of spreading around the viral infection GUILT so that she could research the virus and get information on it. She even owns up to it and confesses it to Derek Stiles the other main character. She also gets bonus points because of the silver white hair and blue eyes. 👌🏽
Physically strong women with iconic weapons. (Left to right, Nariko from Heavenly Sword in fact she is my favorite female hero of all time hence my banner and Samus from Metroid)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Samus is a funny one because the only Metroid game I played was Prime on the Wii and that was it. I only know her because of Super Smash Bros. It was Brawl that revealed that Samus wasn’t a dude, it was a woman. And the way she looked in Smash Bros 4 and Ultimate? Best design. I also love how fit she looks. Fit and muscular women are so underrated it kind of makes me want to draw and write about more muscular woman. I can’t say too much about Samus since I only played Prime and did not finish it and I only played the Smash Bros games she appeared in, so that’s where this paragraph is gonna end.
Now Nariko, she is the best video game woman from the 2000’s. Not only is her design attractive in my opinion, but her personality and her strength are also attractive. The main focus was always on her strength. There were no gratuitous camera angles nor were there scenes that sexualized her, it just showed her personality through her dialogue and how fun the gameplay was. I love her determination, her protective and big sister-like nature towards Kai, and I love how selfless she is. Female characters like Nariko are now rare these days, which is sad because Nariko is a good example of what a strong female character can be.
I also just now realized that they both sport long ponytails, so that is a bonus point they both get.
The Ambitious Female Rival (I only came across this one that I liked which was Klara from Pokemon Sword and Shield because she is a toxic cutie):
Tumblr media
When she was first revealed, I liked the fact that despite her cute demeanor, she was poison type and the fact that she was a DLC rival. By the way, GameFreak sucks for having her be a DLC rival instead of being in the main game! *ahem* Anyways, when I saw her design, I was like, “ooh, okay, I like it.”
When I saw her in the station with the Galarian Slowbro, I was like, “Okay, I like it even more…”
Then I get the DLC for Sword (because she’s in Sword), and she proceeds to be an arrogant, toxic, and ambitious rival who also tried to bribe me with better fashion picks for both the boutiques and salon. “I love you, you toxic and cute brat.”
I’m not kidding. That’s basically how I felt towards her. And then when she mellowed out, I was like, “Oh my god, can she get any cuter?” I’m glad that her toxic traits were slightly kept in after she redeemed herself and became a Poison type gym leader and I’m actually tempted to write content of her over on my A03 since I don’t see much content of her there that I like. She also doesn’t have a voice apparently, so I’m gonna make some voice claim suggestions in the future, but for now, in Sword, I like her. Her and Avery are WAY better rivals than Bede, like seriously, Bede can just retire as a fairy gym leader already, I just wanted him off my screen very quickly whenever I saw him.
And finally, the dominant and/or independent. AKA, Dominatrix vibes. (Left to Right: Bayonetta from… well, Bayonetta and Emma Frost from the X-Men comic series)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bayonetta may cry not be a game I haven’t played yet, but either way, from what I have witnessed from her appearance in Super Smash Bros 4 and Ultimate, she does give me those vibes that she is dominant and independent, plus I love her sass in her taunts. The taunt feature is honestly made for her. And of course from clips I’ve seen of her (for research purposes) she can also be a troll towards this Luka guy who tries to make a move on her but it fails spectacularly on him. I also love her “if you want to learn how to talk to a lady, ask your mum” quote. That taunt alone tells you all about the type of character she is. Not to mention that she like the other women on here has a sexy design that doesn’t try extremely hard to turn the male audience on (because not every guy wants to see the one millionth skimpy bikini design on a female character).
Last is Emma Frost. I don’t read comics I only ever watched the shows and movies about comic book characters and I watch some of the information about said comic book characters on YouTube to learn more about them. With that in mind, Emma Frost is another recent lady I fell for and it’s because it’s both her design and character. Once again, a morally grey character that sometimes leans to the side of good, and she has cool powers and is intelligent. And as we all know, intelligence is attractive. I mean, she is a teacher after all. She is also protective of her students too, so that is another point from her. I really want Emma Frost to have her own movie, but then again, I know Hollywood is just gonna screw it up with cheap and ugly CGI for her diamond form and write her character so far off that they make her unlikable, which is a common mistake made with morally grey characters like Emma. So for now, in the movies and in the comics, she is great. Side note, I think Emma would look better with a platinum blonde hair color than the yellow-y blonde hair color, but that is a minor nitpick.
I know that the majority of these have been from video games so it’s weird to end it on a comic book character, but… 🤷🏽‍♀️
In general I’m attracted to feminine women. Feminine women are very attractive to me and I am also feminine. Hence why all of these women are femme than masculine, which there’s nothing wrong with masculine women, obviously, I’m just more attracted to the feminine girly ones.
The next one is gonna be about the guys + more women because there have been female crushes that also fell into the same category as those men.

Dear Gentle Reader....
(A spoiler filled review of Bridgerton season2)
Dear Gentle Reader,
Like most of you I’ve spent the last week or so waiting with bated breath for the arrival of the highly anticipated second season of Bridgerton.
So while this author is neither a common reviewer nor has any history reviewing, after viewing the entirety of the season—or shall I say mess—I felt compelled to put pen to paper to write this.
If not for the sake my own sanity that needs to somehow make sense of the strange roller coaster that this season took me on, then to at least put forth one review that was not pure conjecture like the ones I consumed before the show aired that simply raised this authors hopes to new heights and caused them to crash land.
Despite the proclamation of ‘How wonderful this season’ is, and how ‘it’s ripe with tension’, allow me to put it bluntly for those of you who want the heart of the matter:
Bridgerton Season Two is a wonderful show that had all the elements of a fantastical story: the costumes, the talented actors, the setting, and even an incredible story—and yet by entirely reducing the younger Sharma sister into an insipid self-centered airhead and focusing too much on her and little on our main couple, it fell short and left this author frustrated and disappointed.
Heed this fact carefully, especially if you, like this author, were a fan of the book and had enjoyed the gem that had been Edwina in the books. Though younger and quieter she had been an absolute force aware of everything about her. Whereas the one in the show is so self centered and a simpleton for the first half the of season and a self-labeled obtuse, mean-spirited brat for the rest of this season. With Edwina’s character written as such, the entirety of the season collapses on itself.
But before we dive into exactly what went awry, and I do promise to, let me begin with things that worked wonderfully. The costumes and the setting are as beautiful as you remember. The vibrancy of the colors both on the ladies of the town and the many parks and halls about them make this series visually pleasing for the most part.
The soundtrack is phenomenal and already downloaded and added to my playlist. And the actors are wonderful with some truly being powerhouses, and while I do have heavy criticism for some of the characters please do not mistake my judgment of the character as a reflection of my feelings toward the person portraying said character.
The older generation of this show were the best part of this season. Beyond just their delivery, the Mama’s and motherly figures of this season were the crowning glory of our story. Not only their relationship with each other was superb but their partnership in scheming their clueless children to the altar was  delightful to watch, the wisdom and bond they share with their children and mentees is beyond heartwarming.
It is with no shame that I confess I cried several times during this season especially during moments shared by Kate and Lady Danbury, whose relationship shifts and blooms, as well as heart-shattering moments between Anthony and Lady Bridgerton, who viewers can see share so much trauma and burden. Even Lady Featherington is fantastic in this season, her rather surprising dabble in romance and scheming making her rather..human. And choosing her daughters at the end, well it made her respectable, if only in that moment.
As I’ve already described Edwina using choice words, allow me to dive into why she is the worst part of this season. Edwina shows great promise when we meet her, the bond between her and Kate apparent and she is very, very mild and even-tempered as she should be. Within the first two episodes we hear over and over again how much Edwina cares about Kate's opinion—but that right there is the problem, because not once does she listen to Kate. Despite Kate stating repeatedly she does not approve of Anthony, Edwina pushes forward, as does their mother Mary and even Lady Danbury.
As if the hypocrisy wasn’t bad enough, Edwina is somehow blind the entire time towards the sister she so deeply claims to love. Despite being an older sister myself, I feel Edwina's character is an absolute disrespect toward younger sisters everywhere. It is truly a question in this writer's mind whether any individual in the collective who adapted the screenplay of this show ever had a sister or knew of sisters. My younger sister knows my feelings with a single glance; most close sisters can do this as well. What more she would never indulge a man who insults me, or tries to play me a fool, no matter who charming or titled he may be.
Leaving this writer to only be able to draw two conclusion as the reason Edwina’s absolute lack of awareness to her sisters feelings for the entirety of this season: that either she's the basest of simpletons, unable to put together the most basic of gestures and actions; or that she’s far too self-centered and self-absorbed to give a damn about anyone for herself.
Considering the fact that Kates and Anthony’s love is revealed when Edwina finally takes a moment to actually look at Anthony at the altar, a man she so claims to love but evidently has somehow not truly looked at all this time, the viewer is forced to lean toward the second reason as to what ails Edwina. Which then makes it impossible for this writer to feel anything but annoyance at her self-righteous and self-pitying monologues that plague the seventh episode.
Her metamorphosis is sadly born and holds no triumph whatsoever, because her true obstacle is herself. No has stopped her from being more self-aware. And the audacity of Edwina to blame and insult her sister, with the most disrespectful and cutting of remarks , calling Kate her “half-sister”, despite everything her older sister has done for her—and on top of the fact that Kate clearly says numerous times that Edwina should not marry Anthony is the last bullet in Edwina’s character.
Frankly put, gentle readers, Edwina Sharma is a disgrace to the title of sister as well as a sad and disgraceful representation of her literary counterpart; Who may have pushed Kate toward Anthony, but it was because she knew her sister to be in love with the viscount and wasn’t a dunderhead as she's presented to be in the show. What's more she could, perhaps should, have been pushed out of one of the many windows she kept curling against weeping like a wronged Disney princess with all the woe-is-me attitude of the world and it would have been the greatest service to the show and its viewers.
All of which accumulates to the one throwaway line they have Edwina wield after our main couples reveal “was I truly that blind”, and her subsequent pouting and even further self-pity made this writer pause and consider all her life choices that had her excited for this season.
Not only does Edwina ruin the first half the show, somehow dominating the climax of this season that had nothing to do with her but also makes the last episode and half where we finally get to focus on our couple impossible to enjoy.
Thus Edwina Sharma thoroughly ruins season 2 of Bridgeton.
(I fucking need a break bc Im getting a headache and becoming livid thinking about this bitch)
The tragedy of it all is that Edwina would have been…stomachable if not for the fact that highlighting her came at the cost of our main couple.
Don't get me wrong, the almost-touching, intense gazes and near-kisses were all wonderful. And yes some side stories were necessary. They took up far too much and in focusing on Edwina in particular, the show forgot to show us the most important part, which was Anthony and Kate falling in love. There was no real conversation of substance between our characters, no slow respect being built despite their feelings and finally no admission of trust on either part. All of which are vital to an enemies to lovers trope.
Frankly it's a credit to Anthony’s actor and his genuine portrayal of his worry and feelings for Kate, especially the moment he finds out that Kate is awake that this author was able to at last concede that the man deserves the women he ignored in favor of proposing to Edwina infront of her, after nearly kissing her. Could he have possibly insulted her more? A moment we get no clarification about and he never apologizes for, and one which this authorI truly did doubt if I would be able to root for him.
Also did it not behoove you dear reader that the moment Kate began to fall in love not once did show any anger towards him or anyone really. She may have frowned but for a woman who supposedly ran her entire family and got them thus far she allowed all of them to accuse and walk all over her which was frankly bizarre.
Anthony made that mess and yet in the end Kate was the one blamed, by everyone really. In this reader opinion the writers of this show had Anthony hold on to his control in regard to Kate for too long. The loss of that control would have been at least some proof for the reader that Anthony actually was starting to love Kate beyond just lusting for her.
In every well-done enemies to lovers story conversation is key, beyond that of banter. It's in that pinnacle moment when either character realizes they respect the other that shifts the dynamic entirely, and tilts the axis of the story toward that inevitable crash. This moment while abundant in the book was entirely absent in the series. Which would be forgivable if the show had not practically touched on every single scene in the novel but yet stripped it of the substance it carried which was Anthony and Kate speaking with each other, sharing their past and essentially falling in love. And the most devastating factor of all, Anthony and Kate do not converse, practically ever.
Their entire love story according to the show has the most peculiar of morals, that is: be selfish. Forget your family because whatever you do for them, they will not appreciate, no in fact they will complain every step of the way, mocking and chastising you.
Despite your family and society heaping all responsibility being on your shoulders, expect and allow them to whine and blame you should anything go awry or even swimmingly. And even when you are selfish, allow them to blame you for that too and take on no or very little responsibility.
So yes, dear readers, do stand up for yourself and be selfish while allowing those you love to walk all over you.
By now gentle readers  this author has revealed to you that I am an older sister, and an oldest daughter. Perhaps it's because of that Kate truly resonated with me. Not just her burden, but the love and protective instinct which she holds for her family is truly commendable. Kate’s portrayal in the show was also beautifully done and this author truly did think the actors were well suited and both very talented and that the change of the last name and backstory of the Sharma family a fresh and clever take. In the end, though, all of that love and care which builds up the Sharma family and is evident in Kate was thrown back in her face; she was insulted and shunned for it by the people she loves the most and chastised for taking control of a situation that neither her mother nor her sister wished to deal with.
As if the Edwina character assassination did not take away enough time from our couple, we were also forced to endure the plucky Eloise Bridgeton, who despite being a fan favorite truly wore on one's nerves this year and ended this season no better or wiser (though she knows who lady whistledown is)  and ends the show just as entitled as she was in the beginning.
It was truly satisfying to see the dressing down Theo gave her calling her out for what she is, a young lady with no real common sense, a savior complex and the worst case of ‘I'm not like the other girls’ syndrome ever recorded, only rivaled by her older brother Colin who continues to be also ailed with self-centeredness. Truly if you are a younger sibling you should be up in arms about this series portrayal of younger siblings, even as the eldest daughter I am outraged on your behalf.
Frankly, while this author does believe Lady Penelope does deserve a dressing-down, such right only belongs to lady Marina Tomson, who is the only person Penelope has truly wronged. And Ms Penelope should have been more severe with Eloise, who treats the entire thing as a game and whose mama used the gossiping Ton several times to maneuver her family into more favorable positions.
For the rest of the show, the other side stories were tolerable enough. Benedict was a comical gem and the Featherington surprisingly became a highlight of the show. And this author must concede much respect for Lady Featherington, who although is ridiculous at times, —and carelessly cruel—showed true grit and mettle. Still, with our main couple missing vital scenes at the expense of these side stories, one wonders if it was worth it.
I suppose that is where the tragedy of this second season happens. If there had been no source material that had been so beautifully written, or if the changes they made actually improved the story of our main couple then one could easily declare this show a true triumph for the smaller details that they do get right. Tragically though they lack of Anthony and Kate scene for much of a show and Edwina’s monologues cause this author’s thoughts to boil down to this:
What a waste.
What a waste of time, money and energy and not just on my part. But that of the actors, Shondaland and even Netflix. To come so close to creating such a glorious story, to have all the elements, from budget, to costumes and talent, and even story and yet to miss the mark so entirely.
Bridgerton season 2 is the greatest love story that could have been.

“C’mon...son of a...” Betty grunted as she twisted the bolt into place. Often times, when faced with a dilemma, the blonde found herself tinkering with her Grandfather’s 1941 Ford F1 pickup blaring her favorite playlist consisting of the Beastie Boys, the Ramones, Bruce Springsteen and other greats.
But not today, no, today she was just spending her day off in the garage of her rented town-home. Nope, she wasn’t bothered by anything this breezy November afternoon. Certainly not by some boy...guy. Man. Person-thing!
Betty frowned as she mounted the clutch plate. Who did Jughead Jones think he was, turning her away like she was a high school freshman asking a senior to the prom? Sure he’s the leader of a notorious biker gang and yes, he had a reputation of being a philanderer, but did that mean they couldn’t be friends?
In all honesty, Betty didn’t know why she was so upset. Apart from the previous night, she’d scarcely spoken two paragraphs to the man. It was just as well, she thought. There was no room in her life for a Shakespeare reading, high and mighty, narcissistic prick fluent in sarcasm. Traveling contracts only lasted 13 weeks after all, and only eleven were left to go (With the eager offer from hospital administration to stay permanently), there wasn’t a point in making...friends.
With the garage stereo blaring The Rolling Stones, the off-duty nurse practitioner spent the next several hours crancking and wrenching and slotting under the hood of her Pa’s old truck.
By the time she realized it, 8:30 p.m. had rolled around. Deciding to call it a night, Betty pack up her tools and spare parts, then headed directly to the shower in hopes of getting at least some of the grease off her skin. In a fortunate turn of events, her best friend Kevin Keller was in town visiting his dad (The Sherrif) and they’d made plans for dinner at Pop’s before she dropped him off at the airport about an hour away for his return flight to Chicago.
She’d always worn scrubs to the bar, but tonight Betty Cooper was going to make Jughead Jones eat his heart out...subtly, of course. Donning her favorite pair of skinny jeans, a form fitting white t-shirt under her favorite flannel and heeled ankle boots, she looked especially good. After blow drying her hair and applying the slightest amount of make-up, she grabbed her keys and her khaki flack jacket and headed for her favorite booth at Pop’s.
“I still haven’t forgiven you for leaving Chicago.” Kevin stated, his blue-green eyes narrowed playfully and Betty couldn’t stop her smile. “We had so much fun! Why did you ruin it to come back home, of all places? You and I both know how much it sucks coming back here. I mean, really Betts. You were like a kid in a candy shop working at that trauma center. Makes no sense.”
“Riverdale Hospital needed the help.” She said. “Plus it’s been a while since I’ve seen the twins and Polly. Lord knows my mother cannot be trusted to offer any help without providing her unsolicited opinions.”
Kevin shared her shudder. “Okay, fair point. So where will you go next? Please say New York? I’m staying with Veronica and Archie while I’m there for the Hamilton tour production meetings.”
“Maybe, we’ll see.” Betty winked. “I’m really enjoying the hospital here, actually. I’ve got so much more freedom at a non-for-profit hospital versus the university hospitals. Doctors are more laid back, the staff is friendlier, the hours are better. I’ve got to say, it’s rather tempting.”
“Yes, but you’d also inadvertently become a social pariah with no hope of finding a man anywhere near your level. All that’s left here are closeted husbands and construction workers. Unless there’s a hot MD that’s caught your eye?”
“Well, I am a Doctor of Nursing Practice, so I guess I that makes me the hot doctor.”
Kevin smirked, raising his red velvet milkshake in a toast. “Long may you reign, Doctor Nurse Betty.”
At 10:30 p.m. she dropped Kevin off at the airport with the promise of weekly FaceTime’s and a hug she wanted to sink into forever. By the time she got back to Riverdale from the airport, it was midnight. Parking in the same spot she was instructed to each time, three blocks away from the Whyte Wyrm, Betty spied a familiar Serpent waiting on his bike.
“Hey Betty.” Joaquin smiled, handing her the extra helmet.”Looking good.”
“Thanks!” Smiling, she slung her medical bag across her shoulders and climbed onto the bike, wrapping her arms tightly around Joaquin’s waist. The trip lasted all of two minutes, but Betty still loved the thrill of the ride. Maybe she’d look into learning to ride herself. Oh, to see the look on her mother’s face!
Once the pair dismounted, they entered the bar.
“Hey, Betty!”
“Aye, Coop!”
A wolf whistle sounded. “Looking good there, Nurse Betty!”
The blonde smiled and waved at the Serpents who greeted her, it was a full house tonight; Betty had to turn sideways to get through all the bodies as she tried to follow close behind Joaquin.
Suddenly, a loud raucous stirred at the pool tables and several people were pushing around to get a view (or get in on the fighting). Before she even had the chance to get through, Betty was unceremoniously knocked off her feet, a yelp of surprise escaped her lips.
But impact never came; she’d fallen into a pair of warm arms, lean and muscular, the left covered in a giant snake tattoo sleeve. He smelled of cologne and tobacco and oak.
“Alright there, Betts?” Her savior’s voice rumbled in her ears.
Of course it was Jughead, because her life was just one big soap opera of predictability.
“I’m good.” Thankful her voice wasn’t shaking. “You can ah, let me go now. I’m okay.”
Betty had not meant to look into is dark blue eyes, at some point she has turned in his arms, her hands on his chest. Jughead’s arms wrapped around her waist.
The...embrace, for lack of a better word, had lasted mere seconds, but felt like an eternity. It was almost as if they were the only two in the room and a bar fight had not just erupted around them.
The sound of shattering glass broke their reverie. Betty watched as Jughead’s expression went from pensive to peeved in an instant.
“I need to take care of this, go upstairs. I’ll meet you there.” He instructed in a clipped tone. The blonde felt uneasy, as if she were the reason he was angry when his grip around her tightened at the rising volume..
“Jug, truly, I’m alright.”
His resolve didn’t seem to waiver. “Go on. I’ll be up in a minute.”
Not wanting to poke the beast, Betty excised herself from his hold and went straight to the stairs. Joaquin had waited at he last step, watching her with eager curiosity. Betty knew that look, it was the same Kevin had when she’d spoken to any mildly attractive male.
“So, you and Jug?” He asked conspiratorially as they made their way up the stairs to Alex’s room.
“Jughead and I what?” She feigned ignorance.
“Oh don’t play coy, you could cut the sexual tension with a knife.”
Betty gaped at Joaquin, who in turn looked extremely amused.
“You could do a lot worse, you know. He’s rough around the edges, but Jug’s a good guy.”
“Touching as your efforts are to get your friend into my panties, I should inform you that Jughead doesn’t wish, in fact he expressly said that he wanted only to have a professional relationship with me.”
“Did he really say that?”
“Mmmhmm, said he was a good judge of character and that a friendship between us would not be in my best interest.”
“Well if that’s the case, you should seriously consider suing for unwarranted sexual advances in the work place because baby, he looked at you like you were the only girl in the room.” Joaquin said.
Betty frowned as they reached Alex’s door. “I want a new chaperone.”
Joaquin merely grinned and took up his usual position of standing guard outside of the room.
Alex was asleep, no doubt due to painkillers. Completely absorbed in her task (an involuntary switch went off in her head, changing her state of mind she fondly referred to as Nurse Mode), Betty had failed to notice Jughead had entered the room, seating himself in the chair beside the door watching her every move. It wasn’t until she looked up after finishing the dressing change and throwing away the used supplies that she noticed him looking at her.
Looking at her like she was the light on and he was coming home. Butterflies erupted in her stomach, her palms going clammy despite the draftiness of the apartment.
“Done?” He asked tonelessly.
Betty nodded, not trusting her voice. They ambled quietly down the narrow stairs, she was acutely aware of how close they were. When they reached the bottom stair, Betty found it to be quieter than before. The music turned down to a bearable octave, Serpents and patrons alike chatting quietly and sharing low rumbles of laughter.
“See ya, Nurse Betty.” Sweet Pea winked from his spot at the poker table, earning a smack upside the head from Tall Boy. “Ow! Hey!”
“Mind yer Manners.” The older, wiser Serpent snapped. “Later, Betty.”
“BYE BETTY!” The bar choursed. The blonde blushed, waving sweetly with a happy smile before Jughead opened the door and lead her out.
“Seems you’re popular around here.” Jughead chided, but Betty wasn’t in the mood for teasing, not from him.
“They’re good people.” She smiled benignly.
The pair were quiet for the first block, but Betty could tell Jughead was uneasy. Every ten paces or so she would notice his eyes flit to her then back forward.
Hello awkwardness my old friend, Betty mused. Good. She hoped he felt weird after rejecting her friendship 25 hours and 32 minutes ago. Not that she was counting, or anything.
“You look nice tonight.”
The blonde was sure that she’d given herself whiplash. Had Jughead Jones just...complimented her?
“Er, thank-you. I met a friend for dinner before coming here.” As if she’d get gussied up to see Kevin, her best friend was luck if Betty was out of her pajamas before they hung out.
“Oh? One of the four?” He was teasing her again.
Well, two could play at that game. Unable to control it, a light laugh escaped her lips. “Yes, he made the cut.”
The nurse didn’t miss the way he tensed at the use of the male pronoun.
“And?” He probed.
“And...what?”
“Did the evening go well?” He asked evenly. Was he annoyed, angry or hurt? Betty gave up trying to decipher Jughead’s moods.
“Yeah, of course. We went to Pop’s just like old times.”
“So he’s from RIverdale?”
She nodded. “I’ve known Kevin Keller my whole life, we lived together while I was working at that trauma center in Chicago. He’s an ensemble director.”
“Keller? As in Sherrif Keller’s kid?” The Serpent King asked as they reached the second block.
“Yes, his only son. I take it you’ve met the good Sherrif?” Betty smirked playfully.
Jughead matched her smirk. “On occasion.”
It was no secret the Sherrif’s boy was gay, everyone knew it. She watched his body language relax, no longer throwing out a line of questioning. They were quiet again for the rest of the second block, it was less ominously suffocating than the last silence.
“I never thanked you.” Dark blue eyes gazing at her intently. “For what you’ve done for Alex, for protecting the Serpents.”
“I’m happy to help.”
“Still, I know you’re risking a lot.” He continued. “We...I, appreciate it.”
“Anyone else would’ve have done the same.”
“No, they wouldn’t have.” Jughead said with a hint of admiration. “If there is ever anything you need, Serpents pay their debts.”
Betty let out a humorless laugh, they were well into the third block.
“Why can’t you accept that I don’t want anything from you? All I ever wanted from you was your friendship but I guess helping Alex and protecting your anonymity doesn’t warrant such benevolent from the Serpent King.”
They’d reached her car, Betty unlocked the trunk and threw her bag inside, slamming it shut. How did he always manage to piss her off? God, he was infuriating!
“Betty-” Jughead grabbed her arm gently.
“No! You don’t get to decide things for me, Jughead! I’m capable of making my own choices, I get to choose who I share my time with-”
“I know, I-”
“And for you to just shut me down after-”
“Betts!” He said sternly, they were close now, his face only inches from hers.
But the blonde found no trace of anger in his eyes, in fact all she saw was a tenderness, an amused smile played his lips. Jughead reached a hand to cup her face, running his hand across her cheek.
“Yes...Jug?” She whispered breathlessly.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked softly.
“Friend’s don’t kiss.” She replied, heady with the intimacy of his gaze.
“Then it’s a good thing we’re not friends.” He said before leaning in and pressing a long, tender kiss on her lips. Betty sank into his arms, running her hands up his chest and into his dark curly hair, twisting it gently around her fingers. He pressed her closer, deepening the kiss and a soft mewl escaped her lips. Jughead moved his hands to her thighs and suddenly picked her up, Betty let out a gasp of surprise as he placed her on top of the trunk and stepped between her legs, reconnecting their lips.
They kissed till they were out of breath, Jughead nuzzled her neck inhaling her scent. Betty kissed his soft hair, running her hands up and down his arms.
“Betty?” He whispered.
“Jug?”
“Do you work tomorrow night?”
She shook her head in the negative.
“Then I’ll pick you up from your place at 7:00.”
Betty bit back a smile as she gazed into his dark blue eyes. “Jughead Jones, are you asking me on a date?”
“Like you said,” He replied salaciously. “Friends don’t kiss.”
