Elon Musk: The Rise and Fall of a Modern Fascist Oligarch

I have been writing about Elon Musk for a long time now, because, having fought South African apartheid in my youth, I saw all the troubling signs of yet another dangerous white South African supremacist. Musk has become the most talked-about man on the planet, amassing vast wealth by buying companies and marketing others’ ideas as his own—Tesla and SpaceX being prime examples.

But his ventures aren’t just in technology anymore. Musk has now forayed into politics at the highest level, using his wealth to influence elections and support leaders who align with his own vision. This vision, disturbingly, resembles the apartheid system he grew up in—a system his family lived under, supported, and benefited from.

Today, Musk revels in his fame. Once a bullied schoolboy in South Africa, ostracized for being an odious creep with no friends and no natural social graces, Musk learned to use books and mimicry to navigate human interaction. His billions have now replaced likability, turning his wealth into his greatest asset—a dangerous phenomenon for those who worship him as a genius, a hero, or a savior. He is none of these things. He is a deeply disturbed man, driven by the same egomania that fueled the rise of other megalomaniacs like Hitler, Stalin, and Napoleon.

Musk’s latest maneuver—backing Donald Trump as his puppet president—represents his most ambitious power grab yet. Trump, now older and weaker at 78, is still formidable but lacks the energy to govern effectively. This opens the door for oligarchs like Musk, Peter Thiel, and Vivek Ramaswamy—a man desperate to erase his immigrant heritage—to seize control and establish an autocracy.

But Musk’s dream of reshaping America into a white supremacist utopia modeled after apartheid will not succeed. The United States is too culturally diverse, too rooted in its ideals of personal freedom, and too resistant to authoritarian control. Musk’s actions are already galvanizing those who despise his agenda and see through his deception. His downfall, like that of Napoleon, Hitler, and Mussolini, is inevitable. The arc of history does not bend toward men like Musk.

Elon Musk is not a genius. He is not a hero. He is a deceiver, an opportunist, and a man blinded by hubris. His luck will run out—as it always does for those who play God.
