Kohala Tour

Start the day walking in the footsteps of a King at Puukohola Heiau. This Heiau was built by King Kamehameha as one of the ways to unify the different chiefdoms of the island. Hawaiians’ last religious temple (or heiau).

Stop and pick up snacks at Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company featuring Hawaiian-grown macadamia nuts, gourmet coffee & island specialty items.

Take a photo with King Kamehameha I. Kamehameha is said to be Hawaii’s greatest king. A state monument and statue was erected in his honor in the town of Kapaau.

Check out the amazing view of Pololu valley. A self guided hike down to the black sand beach is optional please let us know in advance if your interested.

Drive the Kohala Mountain Road to Parker Ranch (scenic point stop for photo along the way). In the scenic, pastoral countryside of Waimea, Parker Ranch’s two historic homes, Puuopelu and Mana Hale (closed on weekends) still reside among the greenhills and windswept pastures.

Time to k'kou (eat). Village Burger in Waimea has been ranked among the nation’s top 10 burger establishments. All pasture-raised Hawaiian beef & veal. Hormone & antibiotic free,hand-created daily & cooked to order.

Last visit the famous Waipiʻo Valley. "Waipiʻo" means "curved water" in the Hawaiian language. It was the capital and permanent residence of many early Hawaiian Aliʻi up until the time of King ʻUmi.
