Summary:
Kim Dokja thought his life was finally peaceful. He was even content just to be able to look at Yoo Joonghyuk’s stupidly handsome face from afar while working at the esports company.
Then, he knocks the pro gamer unconscious at a sponsorship event live on Twitch.
“You walk into the company’s break room, see the constipated bastard, and then proceed to throw up all over his clothes?” Han Sooyoung laughs at Kim Dokja as he groans and slides down the wall into a fetal position.
“How was I supposed to know the kimbap in my fridge was rotten?” Kim Dokja covers his face with his hands.
“Dokja, I bought you that kimbap a month ago.”
“I was starving.”
“No, you were a thirsty fanboy. It was a limited edition Yoo Joonghyuk kimbap I bought for you as a joke that you refused to eat until now because ‘I can’t bear to rip his face on the packaging on accident.’ Like, bitch, I know you’re thirsty for the man, but that’s just a whole new level.”

How good is yjh at playing horror games? (Like dead by daylight and etc.) I have a feeling kdj would try to act as an escape goat as well lol
I would say he's fairly good, he's played a lot since it's so popular, but I don't think it's the kind of games he's the best at. Kdj is more of a horror player and he's kinda famous in the gaming community for always being the only one dying in the team. Of course, it annoys yjh very much, and the main reason he keeps playing horror games so much is so kdj STOPS playing the way he does. There is a community who's really into this team of streamers playing together, called kimcom, and Uriel is their most zealous fan. Maybe she's even the founder, no one knows…

It kept being stuck in my head how Mia just smiled knowingly at her Oppa, and I could only picture Anya (Spy x Family) and her "diplomatic" smile, so here is some rushed fanart~

Yoo Joonghyuk dumping his barely-reacquired job as a pro-gamer and trying to get into that arc because he simply doesn't know how to live peacefully in this new world, not after literal millenia of fighting...
But also, Yoo Joonghyuk, who was created with a sole purpose of keeping Kim Dokja alive, not knowing how to live now that this one person is gone from his life, is confronting his creator, asking "How do I go on? You made me to never give up, so how do I do that when my sole reason for existence is no more?"
Just. This book. The layers.

Yooooo I just realized. Yoo Joonghyuk was a pro gamer. He played video games as his job, and Kim Dokja was a game company QA!!!! Yoo Joonghyuk's job was playing games for spectacle, and Kim Dokja's job was testing games out and evaluating them for bugs. Even their pre-star stream careers parallel their protagonist/reader dynamics and sets up their foils as "the one who does" and "the one who observes"

Yoo Joonghyuk's timeline (approx.)
The scenarios start when he is 28 years old. We know this from the first time Kim Dokja activates Character Summary, so at least that's for certain.
Tumblr media
And we actually get his POV of the first time he went through the first scenario. Here's what World Of Zero has to say for himself.
Tumblr media
There's a couple of things here. When he talks about 'discord between teamates and director's high-handedness' he's talking about events of Yoo Mia side story, which he said happened 'years ago'.
Since then, he has stopped going out of the house, so, become a shut-in, and is 'staying under the radar'. Presumably, he's not working as a pro-gamer anymore.
One other thing he mentions is that his sister was left to him when he was 'on the fast track to success'. More on that later.
Tumblr media
Here he quickly summarizes his whole pre-scenarios life, skipping some details. All of this is expanded on in yoo mia side story, but it's nice to have corroboration from the main story.
Onto Yoo Mia Side story. Let's say it happened 3 years before the start of the scenarios for simplicity's sake, since that's an amount of time that could be described as 'years ago' while also not so long ago that the media would have forgotten him completely. So Yoo Joonghyuk would be 25 years old in Yoo Mia side story.
Tumblr media
He had been on Team Ash for 3 years total at this point, since he was 22 years old. A year into his gaming career with Ash, at 23, he got a big break and became famous.
Tumblr media
This must be around when he got Yoo Mia left at his door.
Tumblr media
If she wasn't a newborn, she was still very young. I think if she was 1 year old at the time, she would be 3 years old in Yoo Mia side story and 6 years old at the start of scenarios, which makes sense to me. She already knows how to talk in Yoo Mia side story, but her sentences are quite simple and she baby-talks a lot, which would match the development of a 3 year old. Kang Woohyun seems to think her language skills are lacking for her age, but that's probably because she (is implied to have) some kind of speech impediment.
Tumblr media
(This would mean post timeskip, she's the youngest transcendent in history at 9 or 10 years old. Also, she calls Gilyoung and Yoosung 'oppa' and 'eonni', meaning they are older than her. If they at 11 years old and she is 6, that tracks.)
Tumblr media
One thing that makes no sense is that Yoo Joonghyuk says she's 'about 68 cm tall'. That's the height of a 10 month old baby, which she definitely isn't, as she walks and talks and eats solid foods. I'll assume Yoo Joonghyuk is just bad at judging heights and leave it at that.
Back to Yoo Joonghyuk.
Here he is reminiscing on meeting Park Jinsang 3 years ago at 22 years old.
Tumblr media
Before that, he was at his first 'workplace' - Director Kim's camp. This is his earliest memory, as Zero tells us, the 'illegal work site' he conveniently spawned in.
Tumblr media
He worked there for an unknown amount of time until Park Jinsang took him away. Probably somewhere between a couple of months and 4 years, since the impact it left on him leads me to believe it wasn't less than a month and it couldn't have been much before he was 18, since Zero says this and he's probably right.
Tumblr media
Yoo Mia side story Yoo Joonghyuk says it a little differently, that he 'doesn't remember when he started living alone.'
Tumblr media
I interpret this as his first memory is still spawning at Director Kim's camp, but he just assumes there must have been something before that, as he's younger and less shrewd than Zero and hasn't accepted the supernatural nature of his amnesia.
Okay, there's one more thing and then this damn post can be over.
Tumblr media
Yoo Joonghyuk at one point calls his past with Park Jinsang his 'teenage years' when he would have been over 20 at that point. If this isn't a translation error, I think Yoo Joonghyuk is being hyperbolic here in that it feels like 'teen years' to him as it's his earliest memories and he was a lot more naive back then. It's the only way I can figure it all making sense in a cohesive way...
Aaaaand that's it! Yoo Joonghyuk's life from around 18 to 28 years in reverse chronological order :P

Do you ever think about Yoo Joonghyuk's timeline? Because, the beginning of Kim Dokja's end is the end of Yoo Joonghyuk's beginning. Kim Dokja's epilogue is Yoo Joonghyuk's prologue.
The World of Zero is, of course, his beginning. He's a man who has little backstory, few answers as to how he lived a human life. Then, a calamity strikes, and he's just a normal human man. But a strange Constellation favours him above all others, and throughout his horror, the life that he has more tangible memories of than his normal life, he's guided through it. He has his companions, his little sister, his greatest friends, his wife who he adopts children with, they all make it to the end, they all live a happy epilogue.
Except, this Constellation is still different. This Constellation not only knew so much, but he's still not on earth. He's still far away. One of Yoo Joonghyuk's companions, the one who showed him how to keep the rest alive, he isn't there. So of course Yoo Joonghyuk wants to meet this person, to repay the kindness of saving his world by meeting, and possibly saving, the person who can never exist in his world. And, of course it's worth it. One day, he'll meet this person, and the almost two-thousand lives he's supposed to live in the future will be worth it.
So, he regresses. And he forgets. And he's in the nightmare again, but this time, he has no loving guide. Only question marks as a cold, unresponsive sponsor. And his companions die, his beloved ones die. So he regresses again, to save the world he thinks. And he finds the woman he loves, he has a child, but she dies. The child dies. All he love dies. And he dies too. And his sponsor is silent.
One turns to two, two turns to three, turns to 10, to 14, to 41, to 999, to 1862. And he regresses. Again. He dies, and it will not last, he must return to that subway. That god damn subway. And his sponsor is silent. But then, the 1863rd turn.
In one worldline, it's yet another turn with a cold sponsor. Where he refuses to regress again, and searches only for that cold sponsor, for an end to the regressions, so he may finally have an end. If he can never have a happy ending, at the very least he wants an end to his existence.
But in another, a strange man appears. He has lost everything, a strange woman turning everyone against him, leading him to give in and accept an eternal epilogue, a neverending sleep. But this man, with a frail body, who clearly doesn't belong on this worldline, who he has never seen before in any regression he remembers. He speaks. He speaks of the worlds which nobody around him remembers. He speaks words of hope, of scorn and sympathy, of acknowledgement. He has a guide, not of how to survive, he could do that well enough. But a guide on how to live, how to make it through, how to continue.
So, he regresses. And he forgets. He forgets about that strange worldline where everything was different, he forgets about the strange man who gave him the courage to live. He forgets which regression he's on, believing himself to be so much younger than the many-millennia old existence he is. But still, he is older than the 28-year-old pro-gamer he was when he went through his first scenarios. And here is a strange man, who speaks words of provocation, fearful and arrogantly fearless, who knows of a future even he cannot remember. And maybe this voice is one he's heard before. Or maybe he's so desperate for something new that will save the world. And so, this strange man becomes his companion.
But, this strange man becomes a Constellation. But he's not like other Constellations, he can be spared for the time being. But, this strange man read his life like a story, he's worse than a prophet, he's someone who took the pain of his life for entertainment. He's a true Constellation. But he did so to survive, and he requires this man's help, and something makes him care about this arrogant Constellation, his Life and Death Companion.
But, this man was once the Oldest Dream. His alleged sponsor. But this sponsor was a child, and Kim Dokja never intended this, Kim Dokja, put the sword shard down, this doesn't need to end this way.
And along the way, he's realized something, on some level. This man is arrogant, this man pisses him off to no end, this man's existence serves to relentlessly mock him. And yet, there is no happy ending, no world Yoo Joonghyuk wants to save, that doesn't have him in it. So, he saves Kim Dokja.
But he doesn't know until later that he's failed. That Kim Dokja is gone, at least half of him. And right before trying to recover the rest of Kim Dokja from beyond the wall, he remembers. He remembers what he was fighting for. For all this time, for all these millennia, it was all for Kim Dokja, it was all for his sponsor who showed him how to survive, how to live, how to be happy. All this time, his purpose was to recover Kim Dokja from beyond the wall.
And as he finally reaches beyond it for the second time, this time knowing his purpose, this time knowing exactly what he wants, what he came here for...
Kim Dokja crumbles into the wind. And they both have reached an irreversible end. There is nothing left for either of them now.

Hehe
I find it funny how fantasy au Cale, he is a supreme commander leading to few successful and victorious battles,, but in modern au he is an otaku HAHAHAAA
We should really do a crossover with pro-gamer Yoo Joonghyuk meeting otaku Cale in a cybercafe or something similar
Open world rpg game au
Where yjh working hard in the dungeon to get the rare items from the boss, only to be stolen by someone else (Cale TEHEHE)
Since then, whenever a player with username @/ slacker811 comes near him, he'll start chasing and attacking him
Cale who has forgotten the whole accident, always perplexed when the username @/ supremeking chased and tried to kill him
The thing is, he mistook yjh as Cale Barrow (username @/ supremelord,,, CB has two acc, @/ whitestar which got banned after trying to form a cult,, so he made another one, @/ supremelord after trying supremeking but is already taken lmao)
Cale has poor eyesight, so yeah. No comment, I can't defend this mf ass
Then kdj (username @/ kimdokja LMAO) befriended Cale and then invited him to play together with his gang at his place
Then he met yjh
Yjh then attacked cale,, cue to them wrestling on the floor with Cale trying to pull yjh off of him and yjh trying to choke Cale but, Cale keeps dodging his hands and pulling his hoodie that it made him more pissed off than he's already is lmao
Dw the gang and with the help of Choi Han, they're finally able to separate yjh from Cale
Cale is still confused and shaken up why this buff 23 years old man has a beef with him since they've never met irl before this
Yjh still vividly remember the pain he had to go through and glares Cale across the room and Choi Han glares back
Aight imma make a uhhhhhhhhhhh shipart about them now hahaha

pro gamer yoo joonghyuk wouldn't have missed

Do we know what specific games or kinds of games YJH/SP played? What is it that he is a pro gamer of?
Yes! Well, sort of.
The most explicit mention of Yoo Joonghyuk's chosen genre is in the side story, Mia, which was added in the ebook edition of ORV's Volume 5. We're told that Yoo Joonghyuk is an RTS main, and we get a cute little definition of the genre. This would be games like StarCraft, StarCraft II, Warcraft and its sequels, and so on. The progenitors of the pro gaming scene! Of course, StarCraft II tournaments are still big draws, and the highest level of play has always been centered in South Korea.
But even before this story, we get other kinds of hints. One of them is actually a message from Secretive Plotter that congratulates Kim Dokja on surviving the battle royale with the other Kings. The English novel misses this nuance, but he specifically says 존버에 박수를 보냅니다. 존버 is a slang term that the webtoon fantl team amusingly translated as 'diamond hands' since the most modern use of the term is in fact for HODLing, or the cryptobro term for holding onto coin stock even as it plunges as a show of businessman like nerve or whatever.
But! It is alleged, and I am inclined to believe (not least since I can find uses of the word as far back as 2012 which predates the crypto craze by a fair amount), that the real origin of 존버 was not 존나 버티기 (holding the fuck out) (aka HODLing) as is used by cryptobros, but 존나 버로우 (burrowing for your goddamn life) (lol) in reference to the Zerg (the alien bug race from StarCraft) (look, you'll just have to keep up) move that lets you dive into the ground to hide yourself. So for Zerg players that would dig in the moment any opponent showed up and relied on that sort of annoying technique to survive... you get the idea. Very fitting for Kim Dokja, and for Secretive Plotter. The StarCraft Guy has Opinions on your Zerg Playstyle, Kim Dokja. You Little Bitch.
...I just don't want Yoo Joonghyuk to be a cryptobro, okay!!!
