Hammer House of Horror: Witching Time (1.1, ITC, 1980)
"The usual method of trial, it seems, was by water - even though trial by ordeal had been illegal for centuries. But the Witchfinders claimed that Satan's disciples did not deserve fair trials."
"So they drowned them?"
"Only the innocent ones."
"And the others they burned alive?"
"Not always alive. Sometimes they strangled them first, with a rope."
"I suppose they thought that was being merciful."
"No doubt."
#Hammer house of horror#hammer horror#Witching time#1980#horror tv#ITC#classic tv#jon finch#patricia quinn#Prunella gee#ian mcculloch#Lennard Pearce#Margaret Anderson#Anthony Read#Don leaver#I have been a fan of hammer horror films almost as long as I've been a fan of classic brit TV so it's kind of ridiculous that I've got to#This point in life without ever seeing a second of Hammer's 1980 anthology series. Popular opinion on the show varies wildly from seminal#Example of small screen horror with some iconic moments to the last death rattle of a studio who had fallen so far as to be almost beyond#Parody. I'm ever of an open mind when it comes to brit horror tho and with Network having lovingly cleaned the eps up for a blu ray release#(not to mention a fortuitously timed boxset sale from Network) I figured it was finally time to invest. The boys done good again and this#Is a worthy follower in the footsteps of their previous blu ray upgrades (I will never not be impressed by just how good they got the#Professionals looking). As to this series opener? Well its unmistakably late 70s gloss; a lot more seedy and sleazy than the horror#Anthologies of yore (poor Prunella Gee spends a large percentage of her screentime in some skimpy underwear long after the point of it#Being at all reasonable). Finch is a horror movie composer (I see what you did there hammer..) who is being menaced by a witch from the#1600s and... That's about it. It's fine but plot and script are undeniably slight. Quinn and Gee give it their all and suffer much#Indignity with stoic professionalism. Len Pearce (near unrecognisable from his most familiar role as Delboy's Grandad) steals it away with#A brief turn as a priest who knows everything there is to know about witchcraft. His part could have stood being expanded and the ep would#Have been better for it. Not bad but sadly nothing special; but then this isn't one of the stories I'd heard whispered about on old TV and#Horror forums so there is hope yet for the rest of the series

What gacha character are you?
Diantha is a: ★★ Star character! Their design is target reticle lewd and looks funny When it comes to popularity, Diantha was featured in a seasonal event that never got a rerun... and gets some fanart from time to time!
Tumblr media
She has no idea what “target reticle lewd” exactly entails, but she doesn’t feel good about it. And Shindan still refuses to raise her trust and self-esteem in it’s programming.

More random Chalet School re-read things - in “Does it Again”, Joey’s complaining about the triplets befriending girls older than themselves... After she insisted on having them at the Swiss branch even though they were nearly two years younger than the rest of the girls there! Gee, Joey, I wonder why all their friends are older? (Yes, I know, Emerence and Prunella are three or more years older than Margot and Len, but still, it’s rather ironic.)
And while I’m at it, I never entirely understood that blanket ban on Juniors for the Swiss branch - yes, the English parents might not want to send their girls out so young, but what about the European ones? Or those with parents at the San, are they meant to send their younger daughters to the English branch and only keep the older ones close? (Again, from a Doylist perspective I sort of get the reason - the Maynards need to be infant prodigies and Margot told it’s a disgrace she can only work with girls one year older than her instead of two like Len - but it doesn’t really need that to have them in higher forms, you could have some excuse like the Junior forms being too crowded... and even with Margot, she could’ve been told if she didn’t work she’d be left behind anyway regardless of her form.)

ILLUMINATUS! with Ken Campbell
I'm delighted to share with you my images of ILLUMINATUS! shot in Liverpool 44 years ago at The Liverpool school of language music dream and pun. I had in a vague way been commissioned by Ken Campbell to document the show but I was just starting out as a photographer, just at the end of my degree in Graphic design at Liverpool College of Art. We were in a pub with David Rappaport, Jim Broadbent, Chris Langham, Chris Fairbank, Prunella Gee, and others, I was introduced by my girlfriend Bix Warden who was performing also, Ken told me all about the show, which was at the time the world's longest stage show, and gave me a card which said ‘there is no enemy anywhere’. I went on to be the shows' photographer. Later I watched from the wings at the Cottersloe and at 5 In the morning left by truck for Saudi Arabia and never saw any of them ever again… Scanning these negatives has been a labour of love and looking at them now I see that what I lacked in technical ability and exposure control and focus, I made up for in composition and drama! It was a very exciting time, if not the happiest but it was a time when anything was possible and a time when I set the foundations for the rest of my life. Sadly most of the show was shot on colour transparency and I remember very well presenting Ken with lots of yellow boxes of slides so nearly all the shots are long gone. Some of the images here were hastily copied from them at the time. Much of the work was badly underexposed and I developed an exposure compensation technique in photoshop using darkening layers to fix this. Images were shot into my D850 tethered to Camera control Pro and into a watched folder where images were imported and inverted in Lightroom. There were about 40 surviving images.
