Random thoughts…

Every time that I make tea with my Quooker now (the newness hasn’t worn off) I think about this scene in TLE2 :

And I hope that the sound then was as satisfactory as the spluttering sound in my kitchen… every time .

Thinking about that how do you get hot water for tea poll that had microwave and stove top (op has deleted it. My sincerest condolences. I can relate.)

But I see microwave crop up a lot on the tea front. Previously I've got crabby about it cause I am a self confessed tea snob, but as I aged my philosophy is if you want to make yourself shit tea that's your business. Drink it how you like.

But it still confuses me that for many Americans the only way to get boiling or near boiling water is to microwave it or put a pan on the stove top. Electric kettles are so ubiquitous in the UK that even households who don't drink tea will have one cause it's a fast way to get boiling water for cooking, filling hot water bottles, cleaning/sterilising. And it's also Much Safer than a microwave which can cause the water to reach above boiling point without showing signs of it and then explode when something is added to it.

A kettle is considered Specialist Equipment in a country where eight in ten people have a dedicated coffee maker. Baffling. Thank you.

Anyway, besides microwave, electric kettle, and stove top kettle/pan, other methods I can think of of getting boiling water include those weird wall boilers and Quooker taps, both of which freak me the fuck out cause i can not look at them without intrusive thoughts if washing my hands only to discover the water is 98°C, but both of which are bizarrely common in office environment. Presumably so the queue for the kettle doesn't get too long.
