Slip Into Silk (1985)

THEY/THEM Premiere Date & First-Look Images.
Kevin Bacon plays Owen Whistler in this slasher horror film set at an LGBTQIA+ conversion camp. Several queer and trans campers join Whistler for a week of programming intended to “help them find a new sense of freedom”. As the camp’s methods become increasingly more psychologically unsettling, the campers must work together to protect themselves. When a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, things get even more dangerous.

“THEY/THEM has been germinating within me my whole life. I've loved horror movies as long as I can remember, I think because monsters represent 'the other' and as gay kid I felt a powerful sense of kinship with those characters who were different, outlawed, or forbidden,” said writer and director, John Logan. “I wanted to make a movie that celebrates queerness, with characters that I never saw when I was growing up. When people walk away from the movie, I hope they're going to remember the incredible love that these kids have for each other and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated.”

THEY/THEM is produced by Blumhouse. The film is created, written, and directed by three-time Oscar nominated screenwriter John Logan (Skyfall, Gladiator, The Aviator), marking his directorial debut and serving as an executive producer on the film. Kevin Bacon (You Should Have Left, City On a Hill), Scott Turner Schofield (Euphoria; The Craft: Legacy), Howie Young (Mission: Impossible III, Hit and Run), and Jon Romano (Firestarter (2022), Vengeance) also serve as executive producers. Jason Blum (Get Out, The Invisible Man) and Michael Aguilar (Penny Dreadful, Kidding) are producers.

Historical reading list
Hello, world. A while ago I made a list of history books to read that would take me chronologically from the Big Bang up to the present. I did it on a Word document and haven’t had time to compile the list on Goodreads, but I wanted to post it here as a stopgap for anyone interested. There’s a penchant towards my own heritage, which comes through the United States and Mormonism, with, for instance, at least one biography on every American President (through Obama). But I tried to be broad because as I read these I want to gain a broad understanding not just of history but of different global cultures today; hence so many titles dealing with religion or mythology in general. There’s a smattering of fiction thrown in there where it fits historically, like The Iliad, Divine Comedy, or Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and I have other reading lists dealing with topics like art, music, religion (outside of history, like books about Buddhism or Joseph Campbell essays), and contemporary work in natural sciences/conservation/mass extinction, so by and large books relating to those things don’t appear here, but I still hope it’s useful. 1.     A Brief History of Time, Stephen Hawking

SONGS FOR NOBODIES
By Joanna Murray-Smith
Directed by Rob Lindley
Music Direction by Andra Velis Simon
Featuring Bethany Thomas
September 23 – October 31, 2021
This tour-de-force performance celebrates the iconic work of Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Maria Callas. Share in the unexpected encounters between these legendary divas and the ordinary women whose lives were changed by their brush with fame. Featuring such favorites as “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “Crazy,” and “Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do,” Songs for Nobodies illuminates the power of song to share a story, heal a heartbreak, and inspire a dream.
The World Premiere of
MR. DICKENS’ HAT A Play with Music
By Michael Hollinger
Directed by David Catlin
Music Direction by Chuck Larkin
November 26, 2021 – January 2, 2022
In a cozy Victorian shop sits the hat of Charles Dickens, who once used it to carry water to the victims of a train wreck (that’s true!). When a pair of bumbling thieves plots to steal it (that’s imaginary!), young Kit sets out to foil their plan, save the hat, and free her father from debtors’ prison. Filled with a host of colorful characters, constables, and carolers, this warm winter’s tale with original music brings to life the universal lesson: “Beneath our hats, we are all the same.”
FIREFLIES
By Donja R. Love
Directed by Mikael Burke
January 20 – February 20, 2022
The Civil Rights Movement has ignited the South, and the charismatic Rev. Charles Grace needs a new speech to galvanize the people. But it is Olivia, his pregnant wife, who writes those fiery speeches, and her tolerance for playing the supporting role to her husband is wearing thin. As the growing weight of secrets threatens her marriage, and a nation’s hatred threatens her child’s future, Olivia must rediscover the place that love has in her world.
INTIMATE APPAREL
By Lynn Nottage
Directed by Tasia A. Jones
April 14 – May 15, 2022
In 1905, a black seamstress named Esther sews her way out of poverty stitch by delicate stitch, creating fine lingerie for her Manhattan clientele while longing for a husband and a future. She finds common ground with a Jewish fabric merchant, a relationship they both know cannot grow. So when correspondence with a lonesome Caribbean man leads to a marriage proposal, she accepts. But as her new marriage quickly leads to regret, Esther turns back to her sewing machine to rebuild her life and refashion her future.
Ken Ludwig’s DEAR JACK, DEAR LOUISE
By Ken Ludwig
Director to be announced
July 7 – August 7, 2022
When two strangers meet by letter during World War II, a love story begins. U.S. Army Captain Jack Ludwig, a military doctor stationed in Oregon, begins writing to Louise Rabiner, an aspiring actress and dancer in New York City, hoping to meet her someday if the war will allow. But as the war continues, it threatens to end their relationship before it even starts.
Two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig tells the poignant story of his own parents’ unlikely courtship during World War II.

Spring begins with a fleet of exciting new boats to look for in your homeport soon
Boston Whaler’s R&D group has designed  new models for its popular Dauntless bay boat collection. the new 220 (proven above) and 250 Dauntless can be fished in calm inshore waters but additionally have the capacity to target a few offshore species. they're flexible systems for day journeys and watersports, too.  outboard motor covers
The boats are all-new designs, from the deep-V hulls up. Freeboard is better than it was on older Dauntless fashions, which makes the 220 and 250 higher suitable for rougher water. a nice feature on each models is the 2-man or woman sunlounge with automobile-style armrests ahead of the console; whilst it first debuted at the builder’s 270 Dauntless, it drew reward. families like the secure sunbed, and anglers admire the dry-storage compartment positioned below it.

Everglades 273CC
enthusiasts of the Everglades emblem realize the 243 CC is appeared as a reputable inshore/offshore fiberglass bay boat. Now, the builder has advanced that hybrid concept. To broaden the idea for this sixty two, Beneteau talked with existing swift Trawler proprietors, normally people of their 60s who have widespread cruising revel in. They expressed the preference for a long-distance yacht to deal with multiple generations. That preference led Beneteau to layout a hull powered by way of 730-hp guy engines that cruises at 9 knots for a range of 900 nautical miles, or at 20 knots when speed is essential. Michael Jordan was Kobe Bryant’s idol. Micahel Jordan was everything that Kobe Bryant wanted to be, and he modeled his entire game after His Airness. Kobe became arguably the closest to Michael Jordan that the world has ever seen. Kobe even got to play against his hero in the NBA and developed a friendship with his mentor. But on Sunday, it was Jordan singing the praises of Kobe Bryant after the Lakers legend passed away.
Nine people, including Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, longtime Orange Coast College head baseball coach John Altobelli, his daughter Alyssa Altobelli, his wife Keri Altobelli, and the coach’s brother Tony Altobelli, died in a helicopter crash in Orange County, California. Shortly before 10 a.m. PT, the helicopter crashed to the ground in the hills of Calabasas.

Michael Jordan, who is chairman of the Charlotte Hornets, eulogized Kobe by issuing a statement where he said he loved Bryant and saw him as a “little brother.”
“I am in shock over the tragic news of Kobe’s and Gianna’s passing,” Jordan said in a statement on Sunday. “Words can’t describe the pain I’m feeling. I loved Kobe – he was like a little brother to me.”
“We used to talk often and I will miss those conversations very much,” MJ continued. “He was a fierce competitor, one of the greats of the game and a creative force.”
“Kobe was also an amazing dad who loved his family deeply – and took great pride in his daughter’s love for the game of basketball,” Jordan said in his tribute to Kobe and his family. “Yvette joins me in sending my deepest condolences to Vanessa, the Lakers organization and basketball fans around the world.”

L'expéditeur était He Jiankui, un jeune scientifique chinois ambitieux.

Stringer, Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AFP | Qatari officials (C) take part in meeting between US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad (2nd-L), the US delegation, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai (6th-R), and the Taliban delegation in Doha, February 26, 2019.
Thomas Joscelyn and Bill Roggio, Politico: Trump’s Bad Deal with the Taliban Under peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, the administration seems poised to give away everything America has fought for in Afghanistan since 9/11. Last week, Afghanistan’s national security adviser, Hamdullah Mohib, launched into a broadside against Zalmay Khalilzad, the chief American diplomat responsible for negotiating with the Taliban. Addressing reporters in Washington, Mohib insinuated that Khalilzad is seeking to install himself as the “viceroy” of a new “caretaker government.” The State Department quickly issued a sharp rebuke, saying that any condemnation of Khalilzad was really a critique of its leader, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. BIG MEDIA IS JEWISH
JEWS CONFIRM BIG MEDIA IS JEWISH Editor's note: In 2002 the Jewish website "Judaism Online" posted an extensive list of Jews who dominate the American media. Since 2006 this article, with my comments, has proven one of the very most frequented at www.truthtellers.org. In this update and revision, I keep much of the original Judaism Online article (which is in italics) but delete out-of-date information. I add much more, documenting the present status of the Jewish media moguls who tell us what to believe - and degrade our morals. Unless otherwise stated, these individuals are Jewish. The names of persons who are almost certainly Jewish but unconfirmed are followed by an asterisk. Jewish control of the media is a taboo topic. In Congress, among evangelicals and mainline conservative talk radio, it is never mentioned. It is discussed only in snatches on far right alternative talk radio. This is astonishing, considering that almost every substantial library in America contains a number of books confirming such Jewish control. These include Neil Gabler’s An Empire of Their Own: How the Jews Invented Hollywood and Hoberman and Shandler’s Entertaining America: Jews, Movies, and Broadcasting. These encyclopedic histories of Jewish control of the American media outdo any efforts by so-called “anti-Semites” to document an astonishing, frightening fact: The majority of media news and information to the American public comes from Jews. An authoritative Jewish website Judaism Online (www.simpletoremember.com) in its article “Jewish Success in the American Media” documents Jewish media preeminence. It does so not from motives of anti-Semitism but from Jewish pride. Its 2002 list of many Jewish superstars in the media today is printed, in part, below. Of course, there are more Gentiles than Jews in the American media, as in America at large. But notice how many Jews are in control of media giants. This helps explain why the media is so relentlessly anti-Christian, constantly pushing immorality and the liberal Zionist political agenda. Why are Christians always marginalized in films and TV? Why is the Palestinian perspective not included in the news? Face the forbidden truth: The media speaks with a Jewish voice. TELEVISION NETWORKS CBS/Viacom: Sumner Redstone - chairman of board and CEO of the CBS Corporation, which includes Viacom, "world's biggest media giant" ( Economist, 11-23-02). The CBS Corporation is the world's most powerful and corruptive Jewish media giant.   Viacom  owns Viacom Cable, CBS, and MTV… Blockbuster Video Rentals, and Black Entertainment TV. Viacom operations include UPN, BET Networks, Paramount Pictures and such well-known global brands as VH1, CMP, Logo, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., Teen Nick, Comedy Central, Showtime, Spike TV, TV Land, Rock Band, Addicting Games, Atom, Neo Pets, and Shockwave as well as Simon and Schuster. Phillipe Dauman is president and CEO of Viacom. Leslie Moonves (great-nephew of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion) - president of CBS Television. Just Resigned Martin Franks (*) is executive vice president, planning, policy and government affairs. Louis J. Briskman (*) is executive vice president of research and planning and general counsel. Although Jews compose less than 2 percent of the US population, the CBS Corporation Board of Directors, as well as major corporation divisions, is occupied by over 60 percent Jews. NBC: In 2011 Comcast purchased NBC Universal. Steve Burke (a gentile yet board member of J. P. Morgan) became new CEO of NBC Universal. Robert Greenblatt is chairman of NBC Entertainment. Steve Capus (*) is president of NBC News. Max Mutchnik and David Kohan - co-executive producers of NBC’s “Good Morning, Miami.” ABC: Robert Iger - major owner of Walt Disney, Capital Cities, and ABC.   Disney owns cable TV networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, A&E TV Network, ABC Family, as well as many other entertainment venues. Allan Braverman is executive vice president and general counsel of Walt Disney Company. Ben Sherwood is president of ABC News. FOX: Rupert Murdoch (Jewish mother, hence legally Jewish) is owner of FOX TV,  New York Post,  London Times, and  News of the World. Joel Klein, ex-chancellor of New York Department of Education, was appointed by Murdoch to clean up the news corporation's hacking image. CNN: Wolf Blitzer is host of CNN’s "The Situation Room." HOLLYWOOD MOVIE STUDIOS The prestigious Encyclopedia Judaica, in its article “Motion Pictures,” pg. 449, says: “Thus all the large Hollywood companies, with the exception of United Artists...were founded and controlled by Jews.” Sony Corporation (worldwide): Howard Stringer - chairman and group CEO. Sony produced the blasphemous "Da Vinci Code" (SeeThe Jews Behind Da Vinci Code) Columbia Pictures: Michael Lynton - cochairman. Sony Pictures Entertainment: Amy Pascal - cochairman. Warner Bros.: Barry Meyer - chair. Edgar M. Bronfman Jr. was CEO of Warner Music Group from 2004 until sale of WMG in 2011. He was previously CEO of Seagram and vice chairman of Vivendi Universal. Time Warner: Gary Ginsberg is executive vice president of marketing and communications. Paramount: Brad Gray - president of Paramount Pictures. DreamWorks: Stephen Spielberg, David Geffen, Jeffrey Katzenberg (owners). Miramax Films: Harvey Weinstein, former CEO of Miramax, left to found, with his brother, Weinstein Films. Warner Brothers: Barry Meyer - chairman. MGM: Harry Sloan - chairman. AMC: Charlie Collier - president. Screen Actors Guild: Alan Rosenberg - president. RADIO Clear Channel Communications: Robert Sillerman - founder. PBS: Ben Wattenberg - moderator, PBS ThinkTank. PUBLISHERS The Encyclopedia Judaica, in its article “Publishing,” lists the following publishing houses, as of 1971, owned or controlled by Jews: Viking, Knopf, Random House, Modern Library, Simon and Schuster, Harcourt, Brace & Co., Greenberg Publishers, Ziff-Davis, Crown Publishers, Dial Press and Dryden Press. Publishing houses either founded by or with a Jew as editor-in-chief include: Farrar, Straus, & Giroux, Abelard-Schumann, Basic Books, Grosset & Dunlap, Federal Writers Project, Gaer Associates, Macmillan & Co., Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Citadel Press, Chanticleer Press, Arthur Frommer, Inc., Hart Publishing Co., Lantern Press, Oceanea Publications, Twayne Publishers, Arco Publishing Co., Grossman Publishers, and Stein & Day. Publishing houses involved in book clubs, reprints, or children’s literature either founded by or controlled by Jews include the Literary Guild, Book of the Month Club, Limited Editions Club, Heritage Club, Junior Heritage Club, Readers Club, Jewish Book Guild, Military Science Book Club, Natural History Book Club, Book Collector’s Society, Art Book Guild, Science Book Club, Beech Hurst Press, A. S. Barnes & Co., Sagamore Press, Thomas Yoseloff Inc., The Modern Library, World Publishing Co., Little Blue Books, Pocket Books Inc., Avon Publications, Popular Library, Schocken Books, Golden Books, and Golden Press. In its article on New York City, the Judaica adds to the list of publishing houses owned by Jews, Liveright & Boni, and Anchor Books. Today, Random House, Doubleday, and Anchor Books, while Jewish owned and controlled, participate in the world’s largest publishing consortium, Bertelsmann A.G., benefiting from its staggering distribution advantages. Judaism Online says: Bertelsmann’s American operations are headed by Joel Klein, chair and CEO. NEWSPAPERS The following, from the 2002 Judaism Online article, though largely outdated, I have left unrevised because of the general picture it presents. Samuel Newhouse Jr. and Donald Newhouse own Newhouse Publications, which includes 26 newspapers in 22 cities. The Conde Nast Magazine Group includes the New Yorker, Parade, the Sunday newspaper supplements, American City Business Journal, business newspapers published in more than 30 major cities in America, and interests in cable television programming and cable systems serving one million homes. Wall Street Journal: Peter R. Kahn, CEO New York Times, Boston Globe, and other publications: published by Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr. New York Daily News: Mortimer Zuckerman, owner Village Voice, New Times and network of alternative weeklies: Owned by David Schneiderman Washington Post: Donald Graham, chair and CEO, son of Katharine Graham Meyer, former owner of Washington Post San Francisco Chronicle: Ron Rosenthal, managing editor; Phil Bronstein, exec. editor AOL-Time Warner Book Group: Laurence Kirshbaum, editor Magazines: US News & World Report: Mortimer Zuckerman, owner and chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish-American Organizations, one of the largest pro-Israel lobbying groups New Republic: Marty Peretz, owner and publisher (NR openly identifies itself as pro-Israel.) Barron’s: Peter R. Kahn, CEO National Review: Michael Ledeen, editor Business Week: Bruce Nussbaum, editorial page editor Newsweek: Donald Graham, chair and CEO, and Howard Fineman, chief political columnist Weekly Standard: William Kristol, editor, also executive director, Project for a New American Century, (PNAC) The New Yorker: David Reznik, editor; Nicholas Lehman, writer; Henrick Hertzberg, “Talk of the Town” editor Miscellaneous: Ivan Seidenberg - CEO of Verizon Communications, Comcast-ATT Cable TV, with Ralph and Brian Roberts as owners. Norman Ornstein, American Enterprise Institute - regular columnist for USA Today, news analyst for CBS and co-chair with Leslie Moonves of the Advisory Committee on Public Interest Obligation of Digital TV Producers, appointed by Clinton. Dennis Lebowitz - head of Act II Partners, a media hedge fund. Barry Diller - chair of USA Interactive, former owner of USA Entertainment. Kenneth Roth - executive director of Human Rights Watch. Richard Leibner - head of N. S. Bienstock talent agency, which represents 600 news personalities such as Dan Rather, Dianne Sawyer, and Bill O’Reilly. Ari Fleischer - Bush’s former press secretary Stephen Emerson - every media outlet’s first choice as an expert on domestic terrorism. Terry Semel - CEO of Yahoo!, former chair, Warner Bros. Mark Golin - VP and creative director for AOL. Warren Lieberford - president of Warner Bros. Home Video Division of AOL-Time Warner. Judaism Online’s list presents only the most outstanding, well-recognized Jews in the American media. I could name hundreds more from the top ranks of Jewish media leadership. Such names are readily available from corporate directories such as Standard and Poor's and Lexis Nexus. Yes, some a small number of the Jewish superstars listed above are political conservatives. Yet studies of top-level Jewish media executives prove they are overwhelming liberal. The famous Lichter-Rothman poll in the early 1980s found that top media executives were radically out of step with the moral values of the American public. Of these, 97% affirm a woman's right to an abortion if she pleases. 80% disagree that homosexuality is wrong. 86% believe homosexuals have the right to be schoolteachers. 51% believe adultery is permissible. Of 104 top executives polled, 59% were "raised in the Jewish religion." Who can deny such Jewish domination of big media? As Jewish film critic Michael Medved argues, "It makes no sense at all to try to deny the reality of Jewish power and preeminence in popular culture. Any list of the most influential production executives at each of the major movie studios will produce a heavy majority of recognizable Jewish names." Does it matter who dominates the media? It does! The media shapes not only our children's values and actions but our own. The Jewish media has normalized sexual degeneracy, profanity and all kinds of sin. It also leads us into war to make the Mid-East safe for Israel. This happened in Afghanistan, Iraq and, tomorrow, Iran. If an anti-Christian agenda were being advanced by Moonies or Scientologists, dominating the most powerful positions of media leadership in America, there would be a howl of protest. Americans would demand Congressional hearings and investigations. But because the Jewish media has forbidden identification of itself as Jewish, vilifying such as anti-Semitism, a deafening silence prevails. Meanwhile, relentless evil continues to control the spigot of information from which America drinks.NPN Email Alert: Updated! Jews Confirm Big Media is Jewishtruthtellers.org

Property agents abandon China
HONG KONG (Reuters) – Tough measures to cool the property market in China’s resort island of Hainan have put the brakes on a real estate boom and underscore the policy risks developers and investors face as the government tries to rein in prices.
FILE PHOTO: People sit on steps against a backdrop of residential buildings under construction, in Haikou, Hainan province, China April 22, 2018. Picture taken April 22, 2018. REUTERS/Stringer
Home prices in Hainan, known for its resort-lined beaches, recorded China’s second-fastest monthly price increase in April, spurred by Beijing’s commitment to promote the island province as a tourism hub and free trade zone.
But new measures in April restricting non-residents from buying homes on the island, where non-locals normally comprise about 80 percent of purchases, have caused sales to plunge.
Home transactions in Hainan in terms of area fell 14 percent in May compared with April, and were down 41 percent from a year ago, according to the real estate research firm CRIC. Official home price data for May is due to be released on Friday.
The slide comes as the State Council maps out plans to transform Hainan into China’s largest free trade zone and upgrade its core industries to include not only tourism, but also modern services and high technology.
China has been imposing controls across the country to rein in rocketing property prices, often fueled by speculators. The tough new measures in Hainan came after prices jumped by more than 50 percent in some developments after Beijing announced the creation of the free trade zone in mid-April.
“A free trade zone provides good prospects to the long-term economy so our clients are very positive about it,” said Andy Lee, chief executive with Centaline South China, a realtor. “The irony is, even though they are positive they can’t buy any properties.”
Property agents in the resort island are now packing their bags as they seek greener pastures in other provinces.
Li Xuelong, a Hainan property agent, said a number of colleagues had left the island in the past month, while many clients had canceled purchases after authorities introduced what they described as China’s “most stringent tightening measures”.
“Many of my colleagues have moved to Guangxi and Yunnan to look for business opportunities,” Li said, referring to two provinces nearby that are also popular with tourists.
With a series of fresh cooling measures announced since late March, Hainan has effectively restricted non-residents from buying homes in a property market that has been highly dependent on tourism and foreign buyers.
Other measures include forbidding home owners to sell properties within five years of purchase.
The tropical island had attracted many buyers looking for holiday homes or property for speculation. Buyers came mainly from northern inland areas, where temperatures can fall below 30 degrees Celsius in winter.
The cooling property market could have a ripple effect on tourism projects in the resort province, industry watchers said.
“Many developers entered Hainan to sell to outsiders,” said Centaline’s Lee. “Many of them are engaged in tourism property, so the tourism business is for facilitating the property business. Now with the main business going under water, the tourism projects may have to be suspended.”
The central government hopes Hainan will reduce its reliance on real estate, but Lee said the transformation could take a big toll on local government coffers, which derive more than 50 percent of their income from real estate, before the free trade zone positively impacts the local economy.
Developers said there was nothing they could do but wait for the cooling measures to be lifted, although many said they intended to stop buying land in Hainan.
Michael Lee, finance director at Guangzhou R&F Properties (2777.HK), said the company did not have plans to adjust its Hainan sales strategy in response to the policy changes.
An executive of another developer, who declined to be named as he was not authorized to speak to media, said the company planned to hold on to its remaining unsold apartments, in hopes their value would increase after a few years.
“We will look for more land bank in third- and fourth-tier cities where there’s less tightening,” the executive said. “The country’s policies kept changing so we had to adjust ourselves.”
In late April, local media reported that some developers had allowed buyers to get around Hainan’s home purchase restrictions by using rental contracts or forward-dating agreements to buy apartments.
“But this is risky both for developers and buyers, because regulations can change again at any time,” said Li, the property agent.
