Here, all the official canon mainline RE games:
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil (original and REmake)
Resident Evil 2 (original and remake)
Resident Evil 3 (original and remake)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil 4 (original and remake)
Resident Evil: Biohazard
Resident Evil: Village
Eventually, we'll most likely get Zero and Code Veronica remakes, an RE1 re-remake, and RE9 (whatever they end up calling it).
oh so you’re evil? Name every resident.

My wants for the next few RE titles.
Code Veronica Remake: Perhaps I'm just tired of having to defend this title's importance, but I need this game to be remade. Not only do I want updated Claire & Chris stuff, but Steve and one of my favorite villains, Alexia deserve some spotlight. It's literally an important game for Claire, Chris AND Wesker's character arcs, it deserves to be seen as important to the franchise.
Revelations 3: I remember there were rumors that Rev3 would be a Rebecca game and let me tell you I'd bolt to the store if this came out. You will NEVER find me complaining about more Rebecca. If that got canned, I'd be interested in revisiting a dropped plot point from the past Rev games, I want to see what Jessica has been up to since Excella's death, or maybe we could see wtf is going on with the Alex possessed Natalia?
RE9: If the plot is taking down a corrupt BSAA. Jill needs to be the main protagonist. I love Chris, and he should definitely play a role, but I'm cool with him being support rather than the main hero. Other than Jill, I think Sheva should be the other main star of this game. A Jill/Sheva game would literally be a dream come true and it's LONG past the time for Sheva to make her grand return to the series. Who knows if we'll even get answers about the BSAA though? RE9 might just take the series into a different direction.
RE1 Remake: DON'T TWIST MY WORDS. The original RE1 remake on the GameCube is literally my favorite RE game. But I will take another remake if it means I get the Spencer Mansion and baby Chris in the RE engine. It would look so neat, and it's the only remake I accept getting before a CV remake.

The horrific Resident Evil playthrough, finale
Approximately one year ago I began the somewhat mad quest to shove as much Resident Evil into my brain as quickly as possible. I blazed through thirteen games, a handful of spin-offs, and as much supplementary material I could get my hands on. I chronicled my thoughts each step of the way via posts here, on Twitter and in a massive ResetERA thread where a lot of good people gave me advice on how to proceed with the series. Not all of the stuff I experienced was great (those Paul W.S. Anderson movies come to mind), and sometimes this massive undertaking felt like work, but now that I’ve come to the end, I can say that it was worth it, because it’s quite the feeling to bring yourself from having zero knowledge of something to morphing into a Wiki-reading fiend in just a year. At this time in 2018, I had only the barest notion of what this series was about and who characters like Jill Valentine or Leon Kennedy were. Now, I could probably write a pretty heated Twitter thread about how Jill needs to be brought back to the forefront of the series not just with a remake of Resident Evil 3, but with an entirely new game, because she’s been sidelined for years despite being the central figure in promotional material like the fancy artwork that I’ve posted above! Ahem.
My initial desire to become more familiar with Resident Evil has been part of a larger push in recent years to consume more horror media, mostly because as I get older I find myself increasingly attracted to eerie stories that I was too much of a weenie to dive into when I was younger. Some of it probably has to do with the fact that as an adult I now find stuff like health concerns, existential dread and paying taxes to be more horrifying than things that go bump in the night, but part of it is also because that even as a scaredy cat kid, I was always kinda intrigued by macabre stuff like Resident Evil, even if I couldn’t bring myself to play through the games.
Now that I’ve plowed through the franchise, I wish I could go back and whisper to my younger self that aside from the first game, RE7 and perhaps bits and pieces of both versions of RE2...Resident Evil isn’t all that frightening. The series does have its jump scares and gore, but it quickly crosses genres into the realm of action, and even in its more tense entries, Resident Evil stays dripping with a fine dollop of cheese, either through B-movie dialogue or moments when the main characters wink at the camera and suddenly take a zombie to suplex city. Action, comedy and horror are unusual but frequent bedfellows, I’ve learned, and with RE embodying all three of these genres, translating them to the realm of electronic entertainment via a format emphasizing survival, it’s only appropriate that this is the franchise that has come to serve as the face of spooky thrills in the video game world.
Resident Evil’s also in a very good place at this moment in time. RE2Make has gotten well-deserved praise from just about everyone who’s played it, and after a moment where it looked like Capcom was going to tilt the mattress and upset the delicately placed bedfellows - emphasizing action and over-the-top comedy more than horror - now it appears that the devs have gotten their heads straight and maintained the balance once more. There’s still room for improvement and careful experimentation though. As the series forges ahead into the 2020s, I hope that Capcom doesn’t get drunk off of RE2Make’s success, milking its formula to exhaustion. I want at least another mainline game to utilize the first-person perspective of Resident Evil 7, which worked better than I ever would’ve imagined, and I’d also like to see the Revelations sub-series, which was supposed to focus on stories that took place in between the main games, continue - in spirit if not in name. (A Revelations 3 or similar spin-off with fixed camera angles - perhaps in a mid-tier budget point ‘n click style a la Detention - would be something that I’d love, though Capcom probably will never go in that direction.) Finally, I’d like Resident Evil to remember that it had fabulous female representation in its earlier entries. The later titles have mostly had male protagonists front and center, which directly reinforces the trope that it’s okay for survival horror games to star the “must be protected” ladies, but anything action-orientated should star dudes so that male players can have their power fantasy trip. This can easily be fixed by doing what I said in the first paragraph - bring the queen Jill Valentine back.
Finally, because these sorts of franchise reflections are never complete without a good ol’ fashioned list... Here’s how I’d rank the mainline games, complete with a snappy sentence or two for each.
Resident Evil REmake - Because if I had to recommend just ONE game for someone to get a decent idea of this series’ mechanics and themes, it would be this one.
Resident Evil 4 - It’s survival action instead of survival horror, but when the gameplay’s this good, can you really complain?
Resident Evil 2 - Over 20 years old and still a thrilling experience. The epitome of the fixed camera angle games.
Resident Evil 7 - I was afraid that the change to a first-person perspective would alienate me, but I beat this game in two days and couldn’t put it down.
Resident Evil RE2make - Almost as good as the original, and a great sign of the franchise’s future.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 - Worth playing for the return of Barry Burton and the moving story alone, which is basically about fathers and daughters, loss and acceptance.
Resident Evil 1 - The OG that started it all. A little clunky to play in this day and age, but the magic’s still there.
Resident Evil 6 - The equivalent of an overstuffed exploding cake, RE6 is excessive as hell and sometimes infuriating...but one thing you could never call it is boring.
Resident Evil 5 - A solid series entry about Chris Redfield punching boulders in Africa, this one’s excellent if you play it co-op. Solo, a little less excellent.
Resident Evil Zero - RE probably didn’t need this prequel showing what Rebecca Chambers was doing on the night before she got stuck in Spencer Mansion, but good chemistry between the main characters makes it worth experiencing.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - A lot of folks love this one, but IMO it feels less noteworthy than RE2 and RE1, probably because it was originally designed as a spin-off. I rank it low but am eager to see how a RE3make could boost it.
Resident Evil Revelations - Jill Valentine’s in a wetsuit that clings to her booty this whole game and she hangs out with a partner who looks like Russell Crowe. Aside from that, Revelations is fine but kinda forgettable.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica - The only RE that truly annoyed me with backtracking and some cheap bosses, Code Veronica is technically still an okay game. But Steve Burnside is a garbage character.
Thus, we bring the horrific, 2018-2019 Pixel Grotto Resident Evil playthrough to a gentle finish. *Cue relaxing save room theme here.* It’s been fun, ladies and gents. I need to rest up a bit and try some other games that aren’t survival horror for a while. But I like the idea of doing more series playthroughs in the future...
And I think Silent Hill might be a good choice for the next one.
The header artwork is a textless version of the radical Biohazard 20th Anniversary poster that Capcom put out in 2016.

My Hopes For Resident Evil 8
Resident Evil has taken quite a fall in my opinion when RE7 was supposed to “reboot” a series that definitely didn’t need a reboot and instead, ruined the established story and characters. RE2 Remake is not any better considering it ruined Claire, Leon, and Ada’s image for me. I’m not expecting Crapcom to fix their train-wreck of a reboot, but I have no choice to believe the series isn’t entirely doomed due to the fact that its my favorite series tied with Final Fantasy. So on that note, Resident Evil 8 will be coming after a 3 Remake (which I expect to be total Jill-destroying garbage), so here are some things I REALLY want in a new Resident Evil game.
1. RETURNING CHARACTERS. Ones that look and sound accurate. RE7 just introduced a bunch of lifeless hillbillies with a side of “HOLY CRAP HE’S UGLY” Chris. Or “Redfield” as they call him. We need someone along the lines of Claire, Chris, Jill, Ada, or Leon to return. To the side, it would be ideal to see a one-time character like Moira, Billy, or Steve return in some way. (Also, Natalia. Capcom promised she’d eventually return.) I realize that Steve to many fans is “dead”, but analyzing Code Veronica more carefully reveals otherwise. He was taken in by Albert. The rest is history never shown by Capcom. Now should be the time.

2. A plot that ignores the RE7 bull and continues from where it left off of. This is already unlikely however due to Capcom wanting to continue the RE7 story of Eveline. This is something I’m willing to accept IF and ONLY IF familiar characters return, look acceptable, and act like themselves. Otherwise, the RE7 story should “get the f*** out” of RE8. (as hillbilly grandma would say)
3. More Information regarding The Family. This idea was introduced formally with RE6, but crashed in RE7 with the Baker household. What they did versus what I was hoping they’d do with that plot point were two very different things and I was not satisfied with the results. Capcom needs to ultimately connect the Family to the main story in a satisfying way.
4. OPTIONAL: An explanation of the Foley sisters. This has been something that few other fans have noticed (even though its obvious) or talked about. Gina Foley and Rachael Foley undoubtedly have a connection and I’d like to know the story if it can fit in to RE8′s plot. It’s strange IMO how Gina was just dropped in with no reference to Rachael whatsoever. Do they know of each other? Is this a HUNK clone thing? Having the Foleys back in the spotlight would be a very nice feat.
5. A “New” Look. Meaning, the one they had before they changed the style to the weird style of RE7. I want the game to look good again like it used to. That is pretty much a must for me to decide to invest in an RE game.

There are some minor things that I’d like to add to this list, but the ones listed are highest priority. Repost if you agree with this list.

The 30 Day Resident Evil Challenge Answered in a Single Post
Day 1: Favorite RE game
Way too many games in the series.. So I name a couple! Resident evil 1 (+ Remake), 2, 3, Code Veronica and Resident Evil 7.
Day 2: Least favorite villain
Neil Fisher. But I think it’s mostly because amount of the screen time he got in Revelations 2.
Day 3: Do you like the movies? Why or why not?
Okay.. So.. Don’t rage on me. But after 10 years or more I have accepted that live action RE movies can be harmless fun even if they are total trash from the start to finish. Before I despised them but now I can take them as mindless quilty pleasure and laugh at them with my friends.
Animation movies made by Capcom.. Degenaration and Damnation were really fun even though their story telling is still on normal RE level. I’m really excited to see what Vendetta, the upcoming movie, has in store for us after enjoying the first two so much!
Day 4: How many RE games do you own? How many have you currently beaten?
A few.. :3
Resident evil 2, Resident evil 3, Code Veronica X, Resident evil 4, Resident evil 5 (Plus it’s DLC’s: Lost in nightmares & desperate escape), Resident evil 6, Resident Evil Remake, Resident evil 0, Revelations, Revelations 2, Resident Evil 7, Resident evil Umbrella chornicles, Resident evil Darkside chronicles, Operation Raccoon City.. I have beaten 9 of them.
Day 5: Favorite female character
Claire Redfield or Alexia Ashford, I really can’t pick.
Day 6: Favorite weapon
Magnum. FEEL THE POWAH.
Day 7: Least favorite male character
Steve Burnside. But I admit it’s because his horrendous voice acting.
Day 8: What was the first RE game you played?
I really can’t tell. Resident evil 2 or Resident evil 3 at my friends house when I was a little kid. Never have run home so fast when it was dark and I thought Nemesis was onto me.
Day 9: Favorite creature
Lickers.. But if we are talking about big names: Nemesis.
Day 10: Have you read any of the books? If so, what ones?
I have never read the books but I own the Caliban Cove. I also have read the manga Marhawa Desire.
Day 11: What part in the games scared you the most?
Nemesis. Every single Nemesis encounter ever. I think the most scary part of him was how the soothing save room music was replaced by that creepy ass music of his. I have never been so afraid to leave the save room.
Day 12: Favorite villain
Alexia Ashford and Alex Wesker being the close second!
Day 13: Was there any parts in the games that made you laugh?
Voice acting and overall writing of the games in places. Barry Burton in original RE and Revelations 2, oh my god.
Day 14: Favorite male character
Barry Burton and he is followed by Evgeny.
Day 15: Do you prefer the zombies or creatures infected with Las Plagas?
I prefer zombies.. But the las plagas are damn fun to fight against as well.
Day 16: Least favorite female character
Excella. Her character was okay and did the job but didn’t really leave big impressions on me.
Day 17: Favorite boss battle
Nemesis battle at the clock tower in Resident evil 3 and Osmund Saddler from Resident evil 4.
Day 18: Least favorite RE game
Operation Raccoon city. Also lets not forget about the gun survivors.
Day 19: Do you own any RE merchandise besides the games?
Resident Evil book Caliban Cove, Resident evil 6 game guide and Resident evil card game. Also Umbrella badge.
Day 20: Least favorite creature
Those underwater monsters from Revelations. I HATE THEM SO MUCH.
Day 21: Best line someone has said throughout the game series
“I’ll always need you. But for now.. I have this.”
“I’m putting you and your god damn family in the ground!”
Those two lines back to back from Barry Burton were FUCKING GOLD. His voice acting was on point in Revelations 2 and they really nailed his character in that game.
Day 22: Least favorite boss battle
Simmons T-Rex moment in Resident evil 6.
Day 23: What’s the highest score in Mercenaries you’ve ever gotten?
I honestly have no idea and I’m too lazy to check.
Day 24: Do you have any favorite characters from the movies?
Leon Kennedy from Damnation. He was fucking comedy gold in that. The poor man just wanted to have breakfast.
Day 25: What do you think is the most challenging RE game?
Code Veronica.
Day 26: Leon or Chris?
Leon. I have grown to love that goof ball he is even though Chris’s character is a lot more devopled than what Leon has. Just love his relationship with Ada way too much.
Day 27: Favorite concept art from RE
Concept art from Darkside chronicles. It’s amazing.
Day 28: Least favorite weapon
Knife. Always the knife.
Day 29: Have you cried at any parts of the games?
Steve’s death in Code Veronica, One moment in RE7 but I won’t spoil it since it’s rather new game, Resident Evil 6 when I thought Ada died and I know it’s fucking pathetic but I really did.
Day 30: Anything else you want to talk about that’s related to RE
Resident evil 7 is AMAZING. Everyone should go and play it! I’m always in team Ashford with the villains!
