Mar. 2nd - Goodbye Limes by Braxton Congrove

VALET’s March First Friday will host Goodbye Limes, a show featuring the charming sculptures of Braxton Congrove. The show will feature large scale paper mache and soft sculptural objects that act as a stage, a room and a landscape. Opening reception from 6-9pm, March 2nd, 509 E. Franklin St.

VALET is excited to announce our upcoming First Friday exhibition, Goodbye Limes by Braxton Congrove. The exhibition will feature large scale paper mache and soft sculptural objects that act as a stage, a room and a landscape. Congrove will arrange these objects in a way that resembles a playground, disrupting the gallery from a place of observation to a place of participation. Separately, the objects resemble fun and playful shapes with bright colors and pleasing color palettes. Together, the objects work together to build a unique environment that immerses the viewer in a dreamlike environment. Braxton Congrove holds a BFA in Studio Art from James Madison University. She has recently exhibited work with No Vacancy 3, Point 1612, Arlington Arts Center, and Iridian Gallery. She has held residencies with OTTO's Abode, Bread and Puppet Theater, and c3:initiative. In 2014 she was awarded a Viginia Museum of Fine Arts Undergraduate Fellowship. She describes her work as a reflection of her own narrative, pulling inspiration from history and counterculture movements. She is motivated by questions of viewer vs. participant, body vs. space, and feeling vs. seeing. Goodbye Limes will open March 2nd, from 6-9pm and will be on display by appointment until March 12th.
